Sandman Hotel & Suites Calgary West

Have stayed here twice. Spacious rooms at a good price and a quiet location. Very friendly staff, Stuti and Dennis were friendly like always.
Will be back or sure.

Had an awesome time staying at Sandman for Calgary Stampede 2023! Check in and parking was very easy and no hassle. They were one of the only places that was able to house myself and 3 friends in such a short notice prior to the stampede for 5 days 4 nights! Special shoutout to my man Kevin the manager who saw us thru the entire trip and delighted us with wonderful stories of cowboy hats and shirts and always provided helpful assistance whenever we needed it! He definitely made our stay a lot more pleasant and enjoyable! We were in a pickle but luckily Sandman and Kevin were able to take good care of us! Yahoo!

Any and all problems that arose were quickly and promptly dealt with by the staff

We had a family tragedy and they provided a group booking quickly and a great rate. It made it easy for everyone to book and met all our needs.

Lack of communication amongst the staff. They did the bare minimum. Rooms were clearly not cleaned, bathroom was disgusting, bed lining was gross and everything looks like it's falling apart.

This hotel is OK considering there aren’t really other options in this area within a hood location for easy highway access. Front Desk agent was really friendly and nice upon check in.
However, the rooms are so dated they feel dirty. Our room actually had a slanted floor so bad that my chapstick rolled from one side to the other and there was a significant gap under the door. The gap under the door increased from left to right because of the floor slant.
We couldn’t get the heat to properly work in our room either, I think it still operates off radiant style heating but they were very old.

We booked 30 rooms at the hotel for a staff retreat. Amazing rooms, they were very spacious, clean, front staff was very accommodating and checked everyone in very quickly as we all arrived at the same time. Thanks for a really great stay!

The room was pretty good, it's a little bit small and not much room to set your suitcase up but otherwise everything was good. Room was clean, bed was comfortable.

The service wasn't great however, the front desk was left unmanned for 10 minutes while I was waiting to check in. This was right around 5pm and a line formed quickly.

It was okay. The bed is soft and comfy, the room is old, and the pieces of furniture are probably 20 years old. The wallpaper is falling apart a little, tiles in the bathroom aren't in the greatest shape. The water pressure is good. The floor in the bathroom was sticky. It is close to the highway but it is quiet. It was cheap and wasn't expecting anything else. It is okay.

Was a brilliant stay and Jillian on the reception desk was absolute lovely, had the most amazing customer service. This is our second stay, will be back for a third!

The Bathroom light switches and door handles could have used a bit more attention when cleaning. I'm sure they'd been wiped, but Covid has taught us to pay attention to these things. Overall though, the room was comfy and the staff was friendly. Nice to have 2 restaurants attached!

The bed could have been firmer and the pillows larger. The pillows were small for a king size bed and difficult to sleep on.

The two men working the front desk when I arrived at night, roughly around 730ish-8ish were really nice. The room was really clean and I really like the lay out and what all included in the room. Made my travel easier to stay the night. Getting into the parking lot was hard and all. Other wise I liked it

Our first night was fine. Fairly clean, staff was friendly. It’s not quiet. The road beside it is noisy. It appears very “3 star”. Not anything special but not awful. Some cosmetic flaws like cracks in the ceiling of the room and dirt in the corners. The next day though, we woke up to having no hot water and we’re not able to shower as the water was freezing- hence the two stars. Unfortunately, my partner and I will not be staying here again as it’s not pleasant to not be able to have a shower.

SO great! The staff are incredible, and despite some bumps moving into my room, Kayla, Jillian, Sandeep, and Dennis were amazingly attentive and helpful throughout my entire stay… even letting me have a late checkout after a long day. Would recommend 10/10

Our experience at Sandman was honestly great from start to finish! We were immediately greeted upon arrival by a very friendly concierge named Aman and he actually upgraded our suite to one with a jacuzzi which was incredibly nice!

Once we got up to the room, concierge called to see if we were happy with it - we were!:)

The room was clean, trendy, well equipped with everything we needed…There’s a dennys, Starbucks, and some gas and food spots across the street from the Sandman.

Even the lady at checkout this morning was great! Super friendly and funny! Overall…I didn’t go into the experience with specific expectations, but this was the best customer service experience I’ve ever had at a hotel so far.

I was pretty satisfied with my stay here. All nice staff, just hotel maintenance could’ve been a bit better.

My wife, daughter and I had to find a hotel last minute in Calgary. We called the Sandman and we’re so happy we did! Guri and Aman were working the front desk that evening and were two of the friendliest and helpful people we have met in the hospitality industry. They got us a great room that had separate sleep areas for us and our daughter. If we had any questions or issue they were very quick to help answer or resolve the situation. The location was great, lots of little restaurants and gas stations and the highway back to BC was right there as well. We will definitely stay here whenever we do trips back through Calgary!

The hotel was clean and well-maintained. Rooms spacious and very nicely equipped (fridge, plates, cutlery). Plenty of amenities located nearby. But (some) staff are in dire need of training in service and basic courtesy. The front desk staff member brusquely refused to make even the most minor accommodations to assist me (like printing an important one-page document for me when the business centre was closed; or helping me find nearby locations on request). Have never seen anything like it. The manager eventually did help me, but the initial service left me with a negative impression of an otherwise good stay.

Booked room with king bed and 2 twins. Room did not appear as pictures displayed. AC in our room did not function and was only in the make shift room that our king bed was in. Our boys were left with no air on one of the hottest days we’ve had. Lastly the fridge and breakers in the room would not work. Employees tried to assist but have limited capabilities. No manager or maintenance staff on-site either.

In the end, the front desk did all they could and cancelled our 3 night stay so we could move hotels.

Unfortunately that is 45 minutes away.

I stayed here while working away from home awhile back and having a friendly face when travelling alone is an absolute must for morality. Your front desk worker Jill, I believe here name was, was very friendly and welcoming. I was hesitant to make a reservation but when I spoke to Jill on the phone she answered any and all questions I had with the utmost patience and professionalism that I've never experienced from other hotels that I have stayed with. Highly recommend this place for your next stay!

Nice and polite staff, clean hotel, Francisco was fantastic and awesome he went out of the way and showed "Yes he can attitude" when i asked him to adjust my reservation and checked back on us if everything was fine in the room and stay was ok.

I stayed at the sandman west and it was phenomenal! The lively Gaga was just lovely to deal with and she made sure everything was just perfect!
She was a lovely kind help and i wld highly recommend staying here, especially if you get the pleasure of being assisted by Gaga!

Our family had a staycation plan during the spring break. Came across Sandman West in which has rooms that face a wonderful view of the Winsport facility. We chose a unique (I never experienced before) a loft unit on 4/F.

Kids were happy, enjoying times to chill, and to swim at the pool. Customer Service at the desk is fabulous as our kids each also received a swag bag.

Special shootout to Manager Chris Pratt for the wonderful reception.

We travel to Calgary frequently for Family and big city amenities, that we miss from when we lived in this vibrant city. The Sandman Calgary West has become our local home away from home, especially due to the friendly and attentive service of Francisco! He always remembers us, and unique elements we've connected on.

We find the location perfect for our needs, the rooms are clean and well appointed. Highly recommend making part of your visit, especially if west Calgary is your launchpad.

Pretty good hotel spent a weekend there. Simple pool to hang out, and fair location near some good choices for food and activities.

Horrible place to stay. The rooms are very small and smelly. Bathroom faucet has no pressure water it was too weak that after you brush up your teeth it was very hard to clean the bathroom sink. Our room’s AC (Room 323) controller was broken and it was hot outside so, I can’t crank up the A/C and I realized in the middle of the night.
No breakfast provided and hot tub was not available either. They should have update everything on the website about the recent changes.
Would not recommend at all.

All the hotels I stayed at I Won’t recommend this one. Not good experience for me and my family.

I didn't even stay here but it is impossible to reach them. Send email twice no reply, I called them no one answering. I am trying to request a crib and early check-in but no way that I can reach someone. So maybe it's better not to stay.

I’m from out of town. Family of 6,4 under 8 years. We had a reservation. While on our way, this place calls to tell us that they’re over booked and we’re getting redirected to the down town location.

When we got to the down town location, our room wasn’t booked, and had to sort out the reservation.

We’re now in our room, 23rd floor and the AC isn’t working. It’s currently 36 degrees right now in Calgary, and we’re not very happy. Screw you for ruining the start of our vacation Sandman.

Absolutely horrible. We were given no blankets and when we asked for some we got ripped blankets. The bathrooms are disgusting, things were stained and unwashed. Worst of all we found a moldy baby bottle. Nothing was cleaned and there was bugs and dirt. We could tell the sheets weren’t cleaned because the baby bottle was under them and could be seen when changed. The blankets were uncomfortable and had MANY holes. My daughter spilled a drink on her mattress and when we flipped it over the bottom half was dark brown. Do not stay here!

During this recent heat spike in Calgary, it seemed everyone was flocking to hotels, and I was one lucky enough to do so. Fransisco (apologies for spelling) was the ultimate in front desk staff! Always a smile, always going the extra for customers, although many were grumpy, rude and short-tempered due to the heat. I watched while he multitasked, troubleshooting so quickly and efficiently and always with the focus on customer satisfaction.
My room was clean, the bed very comfortable, very quiet and best of all.air conditioning! I was able to work easily throughout the day. Although you could tell the A/C system was slowly being overwhelmed, staff consistently worked to keep up with customer's requests.

Excellent great family place to stay. The rooms are spotless and the service was amazing. Felt so welcomed at this hotel. After booking with the Sheraton across the street a couple weeks before hand and finding out we where not welcome because we had forgotten our CC at home and told under no circumstances can we stay. I was shocked it was supper time and a family of six with an ill grandfather and hungry tired children we where very distraught. My thought was ok we are not welcome at your hotel then give us our money back to pay for the next place we have to find. Thankfully the sandman hotel welcomed us with open arms. The room was amazing for all of us. The staff is so professional and kind I will always stay at this hotel when I visit Calgary from now on. Thank you Sandman hotel

Accommodated 3 small kids & 2 adults VERY well. Good food on site during normal hours. Price good.

I have stayed here because of its proximity to my family, but would always rather stay at the Sheraton next door. Unfortunately it has not been available during the pandemic so we have been staying here instead. The only upside is the pool.
Most recently I tried to book a stay here through their website and did not get a confirmation email. So I called and emailed to follow up and heard nothing. Then I emailed them asking to cancel the reservation if it in fact was booked. When I checked my visa I saw that I was still charged for the room. I called to follow up and they told me that they couldn't find me in their system and to call back in 5 days when the GM is in. I will not be staying at this hotel again regardless of how convenient it is. I should not be having to put this much effort into fixing their errors. The hotel is overpriced and not comfortable regardless. I would not recommend.
