Poor access due to an unfenced off leash dog park blocking the entrance. Otherwise it’s a pretty nice park that could be great if the city gave some thought to off leash dogs.
Besides the multiple picnic spots and foremost, there are two nice playgrounds and a very shallow rocky water area here. It's best to go early however, as the parking lot is not too big and fills up by noon most weekends.
We had a great time of exploration. The beach is definitely not "sandy". Bring your water shoes and it's hours of fun. The new playground that is being built will be exceptional!
Awesome place to come to relax, chill and have fun. If you dont have a firepit you can always enjoy one here just bring your own wood and have fun. Nice wooded area on the banks of the Elbow river
This is a nice park with great tree cover, excellent landscapes featuring the river and Brittania Slopes to the east, trails, picnic spots and playgrounds. The beach is rocks - there is no sand at Sandy Beach. Sand would have earned this one a fifth star, but alas!
Didn't even expect that such a beautiful park exist in the heart of the city. My whole family lived it. It was quite, spacious and stunning. Would for sure visit once again.
Beautiful little spot to bring the friends and family if your looking for something to enjoy its a nice place and easy to keep an eye on the kids in the water for something in the city to do pretty impressed several spots to lounge around
I am so glad I was introduced to this beautiful space. I love coming to Sandy. Although you may have to park a decent distance away most times, the walk down is worth it as are the areas of water that aren't too deep so you can sit your chair in the water and enjoy. We always meet some great people and it is just an awesome vibe. My go to spot this summer.
It would be a wonderful place to play with kids, enjoy nature and relax by the river, but the first (and probably also the last) time me and my family were there, unleashed giant dogs, supporter by their owners, used the river as their toilet and deliberately started an avoid-the-poop run out of the water. Very gross scenes and very unfair with so many people enjoying the river down from where we were and unaware what was going towards them.
This is a lovely Calgary gem on a sunny day. The river is great for a float or to cool your feet in. There are picnic tables that now-a-days have to be reserved.
No sand but still a great place to spend a sunny day. Lots of picnic spots with tables & firepits. For the longest float down the Elbow River this is the place to start!
This is an awesome spot when you need some nature in your life and to feel like you left the city. If you love dogs there is always one walking around that you can pet. It is just overall a beautiful spot within the city.
Such a great place to bring your fur-baby for some adventure! The river is sometimes unsafe but the City typically posts warning signs of that’s the case.
I grew up around Sandy Beach. A beautiful park that has many routes to other parts of the city. A wonderful place to bring the family for an afternoon.
Awesome park with great access to the elbow river.
Launch point to float down the elbow.
There is a spot specifically for dogs to play in the water.
There is also some decent fishing late season, and lots of picnic tables with fire pits that can be booked in advance. There is also a playground for kids, trees and open space for sports. This is a really well rounded park!
Great place for walking, running, biking, picnic, events, river sports, etc. Washrooms onsite - both porta potties and a building. Playgrounds for any age. Green space for picnic on the grass, reservable sites with benches, tables and fireplace. Pathway connected to Glenmore to the South and Elbow river pathway to the North and Downtown. Offleash parks. Plenty of parking. Enjoy with friends and family!
Beautiful little getaway from the city within the city. Please pick up your trash! Picked up quite a few "second cup" coffee cups on my way. Help keep this park as natural as possible there is trash cans on the picnik table side no need to toss it in the trees
Always a good time with the family, cheap site rentals with the city of Calgary. Great place to take your dogs. Largest dog park I have seen in Calgary and a place for your fur babies to swim in the River.
Love this little piece of paradise. Wish people would be more respectful and pick up their trash and broken glass. It is a relaxing place to spend a day. Some swim some use floating devices to drift down river. Enjoy my time there very much.
Beautiful spot! Took my dog to go swimming and even though it was busy, was able to find a nice little beach.little rocky, would recommend water shoes.
Play gyms, green space, picnic tables and river front this park is small yet beautiful! Did I mention they also have public washrooms that are open during the summer months.
This is a awesome place to bring your dog! There is an off leash park a short walk from the river and there is also a great river access point for dogs. Great place to start for a float down the Elbow River as well.
Very pretty there. But not advised to go into the water due to high amounts of fecal matter in the elbow river. Been an issue for at least 4 years. Just heard it on the news for the first time a few days ago.
