A nicely stocked, clean store with ample free underground parking. However, when I last shopped there (Oct. 6), several items had shelf tags that made no mention of the items' prices as can be seen in the two photos below. This made for an inconvenient shopping experience and resulted in me not buying these items as I have no clue what their price even is.
Yeah I can't do it anymore. Love to support local but when your local grocery store still offer single use plastic bags, which have been banned since Jan 2023, says more about them and profits instead of supporting Reduce Resuse and Recycle. Taking my business elsewhere.
EDIT: 2 years later, the same stocking and staffing problems are apparent. One example: staff at deli counter working in the background and ignoring customers (trying to order their breakfast). I feel like a ghost sometimes. Side note: sewer gas in the entrance vestibule has been present for weeks.
Today around the early afternoon, there was a racist employee named Laurie who was berating this poor asian couple. The asian couple was having trouble communicating what they needed and Laurie said: “Do you speak English? ” very aggressively multiple times and decided to pull aside another RANDOM asian customer to help without even knowing if they both the same language or not. I am absolutely disgusted by what I witnessed. This is not okay. Management needs to meet with Laurie and fix her racist behaviour.
This is a good place to go shopping (specifically the fruit and vegetables are fresh), There is a pharmacy, It is good for vaccination, and the medicines you need. All the staff are really friendly and respectful people. I enjoy shopping here. The only thing is that the prices for some things maybe a little bit higher than the Walmart (sometimes it is because the things are fresher or has different quality).
My favorite grocery store in Calgary. Better quality than sunterra! A spot that planet organic used to hold before that went out of business due to a gambling problem
The fruit yesterday was going rotten and there were fruit flies everywhere. Need to keep more on top of fresh produce. Bakery items are frequently too old too. Location is great but fresh produce/bakery section is not good.
WARNING TO ALL. I got a $40 parking ticket which I just paid today for the FREE underground parking. Does that make sense? Didn't to me either! I couldn't figure out where the pics were taken either, but it looks to be at the driveway ramp as you leave and exit.
I called Save-On to find out more, but to no avail. They said they're not responsible for the lot, "the city" manages it. Tried to get more answers on the city of calgary website, and phoning, but of course you don't get answers, and just a run around.
I was NOT there super late nor super early, nor a super long time. I was in for about 40mins leaving about 8pm. That's alright, isn't it? Absolutely NO WAY had I expected a ticket coming from SAVE-ON'S and I thought maybe it was elsewhere in the city that I had simply forgotten or one of those non-typical places I parked in, but nope. Save-On's.
I decided to pay because I did not want to wait months just to go to court and have my TIME WASTED because of intentionally inefficient government processes.
I thought maybe I could get answers physically paying, but then turns out I get no answers there either. AND to make matters worse, I cannot pay at the bank (where I've paid tickets before), and was directed to the registry, where they charge a $10 processing fee. Like OMFG.
Apparently, the back of the letter only allows physical direct pay at TWO places. TWO (without this surcharge). In the entire city. RIDICULOUS.
Anyways, so it was late, which turned $40 to $50, then add a $10 surcharge, I paid $60. $60 for a damn ticket where parking was SUPPOSED TO BE FREE.
I chose to go Save-On's for convenience and food selection. But heck, I have a Safeway, a Co-Op, Freshco, and Wal-mart to choose from just a tad further.
I cannot believe this experience. $60 for "FREE" parking at a GROCERY store. Costs are already going up everywhere and this is such a kicker. The greed is just maddening.
I will be avoiding this store however I can. Someone PLS address this!
Starbucks consistently always understaffed.shame on the manager for putting employees in a position to handle the whole store by themselves on a saturday morning.waited 30 minutes.not dependable for a quick bite or drink.
Charging ridiculous prices just because university students don't own a car and often can't drive to other grocery stores and are forced to go to this one. Instead of giving students a discount. Unbelievable, you people should be ashamed of yourselves, and it will reflect poorly on you on judgment day. Walmart and Superstore have way more savings than this "save on food". What a ripoff.
I find most of the staff are really good. But the deli part, sandwiches, ready meals etc are gross. They don’t taste good at all which is a real disappointment when it’s so expensive. Also a couple weeks ago I asked someone in the bakery if they would be able to write happy birthday on a cake for me. He said he couldn’t? When have you ever heard of a bakery who won’t write that on a pre made cake…. I did it myself which I had to buy icing for…
This is the best save on ever it’s so clean and has so many things that aren’t in other grocery stores.also the underground parking and bike racks! Love it
The store is pretty and they have nice music playing. Otherwise I fail to see why people would shop here. I found the selection of bread in the bakery to be really lacking (zero organic items). Also freezers weren't stocked. The price on everything I purchased was higher than Superstore, Co-op and Safeway. Too bad because I live close by but I won't be back unless they up their game.
1. Convenient location 2. Good stocks 3. Be aware of some items which you may find expired/ wasted. 4. Recommended 5. Reasonable price. I love to revisit the store
I will never shop here again, first time and last. Mold all over their mini cucumbers (pic taken Dec 5) and majority of full size ones were soft. Super expensive as well. Shelves were very low on product (deli and milk/juice) but could have been due to supply chain interruptions.
Update: took a bun out of the package for supper, there was mold on it as well! These were their store brand hamburger buns
