I usually shop here a couple times a week as I live right around the corner. Tonight, I came in for a few items (a handful) and went through cash. The cashier was rude, and then decided to bag my items into three different bags without asking, and charged me for them. When I asked if I was charged for them she said no, but it's clearly on my receipt. She could've easily bagged all into one of the three bags and it would be nice if they asked before charging for bags. I'll just get groceries elsewhere.
I adjusted my rating from 5 down to 1. We have shopped here for years but lately the last few months things have changed. The final straw was yesterday we attempted to return our two 18l water jugs. It's not personal, it's just the store wants $8.99 per jug now and they have outpriced themselves compared to other stores. Anyway, the store policy is not to refund the $10 deposit anymore. So we seem to be out $20; which is not neccessarily about the money, but we felt, as this was a deposit and not a charge, that this is a dishonest business practice. We didn't say anything to the young cashier, as store policy is not his fault. If the company is doing this, what else are they doing that is not ethical. Unfortunately, that will be the last time we are in the store as they don't have our confidence anymore.
I’ve decided, after living in the city practically my whole life, THIS is the WORST grocery store in town. The self check out without fail glitches on the dumbest things and I stand there waiting for an assistant sometimes more than 5 minutes. I have two toddlers and time is of the essence sometimes before tantrums are about to ensue. The usual error? A cloth bag. Put your cloth bag down- weight never matches- and you have to stand there FOREVER with line ups down to pharmacy. I’m never shopping here again, today was the final straw.
Save on Foods has a great team in there Pharmacy and the staff are always very helpful when you need them. Not in your face asking if you need assistance like most other grocery store and they are open late so you can always get a jug of milk without have to pay the extra five bucks it’d cost you from the corner store.
As always prices are way to high, I only shop here when there's a sale on something I want or I'm given gift cards. Quality of items is usually good but have a hard time justifying spending so much when I can purchase it from somewhere else much cheaper
Store is clean and stocked but other aspects are somewhat of a toss-up. Produce for example is either in great shape or unedible. Staff are either very helpful or very rude. COVID protocol is either followed to a T or completely ignored. Store pays for a Security guard at the entrance, who never questions the maskless customers strolling in. Not a fan of guessing which shopping experience I'll get when I walk through the doors.
This Save on is my preference when it comes to grocery stores in Red Deer. The staff is friendly and the pharmacy staff are great at remembering you! The produce is usually very good and the selection is great. You can find a decent selection for vegan and organic stuff.
I have shopped at this store since it opened many years ago, I have had wonderful service almost all of the time, today was very different. I was going through a check out and the elderly woman ahead of me was rushing to pack her food into her reusable bags, at first I thought this was a personal choice in her part until it came to my turn. The teller Tanya tossed my reusable bags to the corner where I was standing and started scanning my food placing it all beside the bags, I asked her if I was expected to pack my own bags and she told me it was up to each tellers discretion to choose to or not. I began packing my bags and told her she should have let us know we may have chosen to go to a different Teller. She continued to scan as I packed and I told her I come to this store over super store because I do not want to pack my own bags she said it’s up to each teller it’s a personal choice. Again told her we should have been let known this and that this has never happened in all of my years shipping here. I was incredibly irritated and when all was said and done I asked for her name and then she tried back peddling saying she just scans all food first. I was so frustrated at this point by her lazy bland attitude and her lack of help I wanted to just leave the store. It really shouldn’t matter the teller there should be a standard of service. I love this location and go out of my way to use this store over others but this really left a bad taste in my mouth moving forward.
While the employees that were helping me were doing so to the best of their ability, they are constantly short staffed and are limited to how much they can help. Please have more staff on hand. I can't imagine what Christmas is going to be like.
I was in there yesterday and noticed several people not wearing masks, when i informed one of the managers he said " there's nothing i can do, we dont police it" what a pile of BS. The sign outside says masks manditory. This is why we are in this mess.
The fact that Save-On honors mask exemptions ensures my return. I no longer support businesses that force their patrons to wear a mask. Save on has always provided an excellent shopping experience with great selection, competitive pricing and convenient locations. Their staff are also, always pleasant and helpful, so Thank you.
I love save on foods, they have such a great selection of fresh food and fresh baked goods which are all delicious. But I have to say I am super disappointed that certain products are no longer being carried. I would always make sure to go to save on specifically for the Jamaican jerk chicken wings and the boneless ribs and now they got rid of both! Disappointing for sure!
I was in Save-On yesterday after not visiting for a while. They have really improved the Covid-19 safety with new direction arrows in the isles. There is also a security person at the entrance ensuring everyone is wearing a mask. As usual, the produce is great and service top notch.
They are great there; I shop there last 15 years, at least, and that store was great from the beginning, always ready to go a mile further for customers needs, as well as staff there! No exception, to tell one worker is better or worse; they are all very good in what they do, but last year, and now, at this challenging times, when some businesses really discriminate or even harass customers, especially medical exemptions, this store again proved why they are one of the best stores in the city! All managers, Mike, Frank and Bill, and all other employees are phenomenal, to say at least! They respect and treat customers equally, regardless mask or no mask, respecting people with disabilities, medical exempts, service is so far highest I have ever received at grocery store! Thank you guys for making me feel again "normal" (whatever my normal is, lol), and my shopping not only less stressful, but fun
Its a great place to shop.but when your an employee its different.bullying is a constant thing in this work place n if you try to find someone to help they could care less about the staff members being bullied n left crying after every shift because of other employees.
The best customer service in town for a grocery store and the best produce. You pay for quality and they have the best. Great thing is they price match. So use the Flipp app to find a cheaper price in town and Save on Foods will match the price. Great for everything in the store. AMAZING
Can we talk about the super heros in the bakery department for a minute? Not only are the cakes delicious, i gave the head bakery lady (sorry hun i can't remember your name) a vague idea for a cake theme and when i went to pick up the cakes they blew our socks off! You can tell they take a lot of pride in their work!
Store is clean and stocked but other aspects are somewhat of a toss-up. Produce for example is either in great shape or is downright ready for the organics bin. Staff are either very helpful or very rude. COVID protocol is either followed to a T or completely ignored. Not a fan of guessing which shopping experience I'll get when I walk through the doors.
Great store to shop for groceries, it can be a little more expensive then some groceries stores but the produce is on point! Friendly, helpful staff. Some even greet me by name. No complaints about the Save-On-Foods Easthill. Thanks for doing a great job. I also really like the pharmacy, the team is great and very helpful.
If your fancy and like to spend double on things then this is your place. Not sure why people shop here. Maybe they feel special paying more so they don't need to mingle with us commoners. Went in there to get a few things for supper, was in a pinch. Spent 50 bucks and lookin at the receipt it woulda been 30 bucks at SS or Wally world. Paid 20 bucks for the honour of shopping with the nobles and knights of red deer.
This is to the deli. I am so disgusted. Never have I been to a grocery store and have been treated with such disrespect. Your manger “Annie” is an awful and disgusting person. As well as your worker “Chelsea” and a boy with long hair that he puts in a man bun. I went to go buy some Black Forest ham and when I was helped, the lady hasn’t wearing gloves. I said specifically as nicely as I could if she could get me some new meat to cut since she wasn’t wearing gloves. I’m not sure why. So I went to explain this to the manger and I felt personally attacked and violated. I am disappointed. Back in 2017 around the fall, the workers there use to be so nice and professional, and there was a skinny teenage boy who use to do such a good job as well as a young lady with blue hair that worked the oven, but I don’t think those two work there anymore. It saddens me to write this review as it happened a while ago, but continue to get awful service. I am done and you have just lost a customer. Your deli is filled with awful gross employees who act like they’re on crack, and an manger who sucks. Extremely dissatisfied.
I love shopping here. I am a nanny and taking my little guy here is enjoyable and convenient. He always gets a cookie or a piece or fruit when we come here. He asks to come here! The staff is friendly and super helpful. They ask you before you know you need something. The cashiers are friendly and kind and make our experience even better! I will always shop here! Thank you you guys are what other grocery stores should aspire to be!
As far as rating against other save on foods in the area this one is newer and larger. Thats old news at this point. Besides these two minor details you can expect similar levels of service, quality and costs.
Where I find Save On Foods falters against other grocery chains is price. Although this can be remedied with a ps such as flip to a small extent, it is for this reason I find myself visiting a co-op or superstore brand of some denomination or another.
The other item is the rewards program is frankly not rewarding enough. Although not the only chain that could be accused of this Save-On is one of the worst.
Still I pop by once in a while to get the odd item or the makings of the next meal. However it will need to be more competitive to become one of my main grocers.
