Delicious food and great service. We had dinner with another couple which we rarely get to do so it is important that the service and food doesn't spoil our visit. We couldn't be happier with our experience here. We will be back when we can.
Horrible experience after visiting SHO sushi bar on Macleod trail not sure where to start…. Service very slow. I got couple fish bones on my sashimi as u can see in the pictures below and whats worse Ive addressed the complaint to my server but no word back …. That being said I also want to mention my appetizers were served last after I asked for my bill.
Only giving 3 starts because of the amazing service. But the food was terrible. The tempera shrimp tasted like it sat out for a while then stuck in the microwave. The calamari was the worst I've ever had, chewy and tasted old. The sauce that came with it wasn't good as well. My boyfriend is now constantly having to visit the bathroom. Don't think we'll be going back.
We sat outside on the patio. It was really nice to be outside and also in the shade. The sushi was very good tasting and the beef yakuniku was delicious!
Love Sho, the staff and their sushi. Only reason it’s not a 5 star review is they play loud, heavy base music that doesn’t match the personality of a sushi restaurant. Would love authentic music to match a lunchtime atmosphere.
Good sushi restaurant in general. Not the best one in my opinion but one of the best in Southwest Calgary. The presentation of the plates are always great but it’s a little pricey. I like the spicy spicy charshu. So yummy. The sashimis and the rolls was also fresh and tasty.
I worked here for almost seven years. I cannot legally speak on the circumstance of my leaving this restaurant, but what I can say is to avoid Sho at all costs. They mistreat their staff and expect servers to pay for tables that walk out without paying the bill. The owners take tips from the servers and pocket it themselves. The kitchen staff blow their noses on the floor of the kitchen while working. Absolutely filthy environment with mice. If you can avoid it, please never go here.
A fine sushi establishment. Everything was very tasty, although rolls had a bit too much rice on them for a-lá-cart dining. Service was great, though, and the prices reasonable. The restaurant is very clean, and has good vibe about it.
Great food and service. The taste is average, but the presentation is so over the top and extra! Some things come on fire, others come with dry ice, and some are seared in front of you at the table. It's really neat.
I'm taking one star off because they forgot to record our reservation, and tons of people walking in without masks and the staff not asking them to put one on.
We’ve been coming here for years and quality is always great. Fire dragon roll and seared salmon are my go to. We tried the ninja roll and toro sushi yesterday and it was so good! By far my favourite sushi in the city.
This is a great go-to spot for great quality sushi. We went during Happy Hour and I really enjoyed the Fire Dragon Roll and Seared Salmon. Presentation was amazing and food is very reasonably priced. Server was super nice and friendly. Will definitely return!
I love the Sho ramen. One of the best I have so far but the default is half side. I would have to get two orders to satisfy my hunger. Everything else we have ordered were great but all are on the smaller size.
Service was great and food was scrumptious. I also liked the vibe of the place but it was just on the pricier side in my opinion. Overall, it's a great sushi place to go to here in Calgary.
Rolls fall apart, and just ok flavour, presentation is great, if only the food matched. I'm told it used to be really good, so hopefully it can return. To it's former glory.
The food was extra salty, not necessarily a bad thing for flavor but it made me extremely thirsty and I had filled up on maki rolls, so water and rice in excess quantity not a good thing, don't pan on eating your body weight because you will be broke and bloated, they do give 10% off on takeout so that's a plus.
We ordered an assortment of sushi dishes and all of them were unique and flavourful. The fish tasted very high quality; we especially loved the salmon dishes. The owner Emily is so personable and kind. We really appreciated her taking the time to speak with us. Thank you for an amazing dinner.
This has always been a go-to spot for great quality sushi with a great presentation. Seared salmon is delicious and they sear it right in front of you. It comes with a delicious sauce they drizzle on top. The tiger eye roll and fire dragon rolls are amazing, highly recommend to everyone. The fire dragon roll comes on fire which is very cool to see. I also really enjoyed the pressed salmon sushi. Will continue to keep coming back for amazing sushi.
We’ve eaten here quite a few times and usually the food is ok. Lately though, service has been pretty slow and sporadic and the sushi quality just kind of so so.
The food is good, fresh with good presentation. They forgot some items in my order. Some dishes are not so good, for example the ceviche, I wouldn't order it again. When is busy the service takes to long.
What was likely going to be a 5 star review is now a 1 star review. A place that we have enjoyed in the past ended in disappointment. We proactively called ahead to confirm if our dog would be allowed on the outdoor patio to save us the 40 minute drive if it was against their policy (with the current heat, staying in a vehicle is not an option). We were told over the phone that it was allowed after the hostess received confirmation from a manager, only to be turned away by another employee upon arrival who’s only reasoning seemed to be personal forcing us to leave without talking to the manager who had said it was okay in the first place. The disconnect and discrimination was incredibly upsetting and disappointing.
Great date night spot! Staff are so pleasant and are always laughing and joking with guests! Feels so homey! The food is so fresh and everything just tastes wildly amazing.
Always delicious (5 star) … was my review 3 years ago.
I went to Sho today for an anniversary lunch. I was quite disappointed in the changes that have been made to the menu. The gluten free dynamite and lobster rolls were mostly rice. The regular version was adequate. The changes to the stampeder roll made it so bland. I did still love the California roll. Thank goodness. The service from Jamie was more than exceptional! She is the hardest working person in the restaurant and super sweet and kind. I can’t say enough good things about Jamie’s work ethic. We watched her actually running to get everything ordered, delivered and then checking in on clients. I truly believe that Sho has potential to be fantastic again but maybe Covid took it’s toll.
Went in for a late lunch today. The service was grest and only one other table with people. We ordered a variety of dishes and sushi. The food was disappointing and doesn't seem fresh.
Always love coming here. I know the owners have a few restaurants and I hear all of them are fabulous. This place is no exception. Their fish is always fresh and we love all of their fabulous options. The seared salmon, pork buns, gyoza's, dynamite rolls, rainbow rolls, wanton cups, and pressed salmon sushi have been some of our top favorites. It's really hard to beat this place and I've never been anywhere that has colder beer (it's so good)! The owners also really take the time to get to know their regulars and are very hospitable to both new and old customers alike. We'll be back this week with the reopening and nice weather. Really excited to try the new patio!
We went tonight for my daughter's birthday. We made a reservation and arrived on time, but had 3 other tables be seated before us (1 didn't even have a reservation). They were all seated before they even cleaned our table. We sat there for 15 minutes before we saw a server. We asked for tempura sauce, did not get it. Needed more soy sauce, no server around to ask. Half of the food was good, the rest was not worth the high price. Paid $50 more than our usual sushi places and not as full as usual. We won't be back. So disappointed.
Prices are a premium, perhaps the culture shock of seafood in Calgary vs Vancouver. Food is good and neat atmosphere. Lobster roll is yummy. Check it out.
Great dining experience. Had heard a lot of good things about this place, so decided to stop in and try it myself. Pleasantly surpsied, the food is really really good, lots of flavours and a great menu selection that ramge from sushi, rolls, sashimi to udon and ramen.
Service itself was really really good. Our wait person was super friendly and professional.
Restaurant has a nice casual and modern feel. Super clean.
The best sushi place in Calgary! The food is amazing! The presentation is unique and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I’ve been here a couple times and still can’t get over how tasty the food is. They take their food to a whole new level. Pan Fried Shrimp Dumplings are 10/10!
Rated 3/5 because although I felt the service from our server was friendly, I felt the food fell short. Out of the sashimi we ordered, we had ordered the salmon, tuna and hamachi, they weren’t very fresh and the taste was mediocre. The oysters were not as fresh as well and the ponzu sauce was watered down or so it tasted. The sushi we ordered were fine but not the best quality in freshness. The beef tataki fell short on flavour as well. I did order the sunomono and that was delicious. Overall I felt the overall quality of the food fell short.
This review is just for their parking lot. There was a homeless lady with her bicycle and trash bags who accosted us while we were parking. We did not go to the restaurant
Nice place to change your Japanese food. Food is above average. My grand kids like the frozen grapes very much. Space among table is a little tight but wheel chair can access. Usually we have the dinner and the parking space is good enough. Service is good.
This is one of my favorite sushi places in Calgary! What's not to like.the whole team greets you and from there is only gets better. Food is yummmmmm, staff is amazing! Never been let down here! Will be back again and again.
After reading all the positive reviews, we decided to try Sho. The staff were super friendly and the items that were cooked that we ordered were okay, but the sushi was really disappointing. Most definitely not authentic Japanese. Overly sauced, and the fish didn't taste very fresh.
Excellent sushi, friendly staff, the only reason I give a four instead of five is because of the price. If you're looking to treat yourself then I recommend.
Amazing food, and good atmosphere. However we asked for some more ginger today, and it turns out extra ginger is $2.this is understandable, but the server did not remind us of this and was completely unapologetic at our shock when we saw this on the bill.not a big deal but servers must remember to remind customers of costs for refills/extras, etc.and for this 2 stars.
Absolutely blown away at the quality of the food and diverse menu. Extremely clean environment, quite a classy spot great place to bring some friends or family or even have a business meeting. They take their sushi extremely seriously, 10 out of 10 would recommend for anyone that thinks they can handle their wasabi.
A nice place for enjoying Japanese food. Services were a bit slow but were not terribly bad. Many different kinds of food choices, taste fresh and each dishes were nicely presented but nothing very special considering their price and quality-wise. And, seating wasn't really comfortable. I think more spacing between table required.
Awesome place. My first time there. Our chef Tekashi and waitress alendra took really good care of us. Service was amazing. Ate raw for the first time and everything tasted fresh
Great atmosphere and quality sushi. I've been here a couple times, they also have an awesome patio open in the summer. Service was prompt and good. Definitely will come back again
Heed my warnings on this sushi restaurant. We came here last night and sat down for about 15 minutes until we had to call a waitress for service. This restaurant was not busy at the time when arrived and the server made eye contact several times but did not come to our table. I had to physically get up and ask the door greeter "where's our server? ". We order sushi here which was fairly average for the nigri and sashimi. Their black rice roll however fell apart when I tried picking it up like picking up flour. Although I had to eat this in pieces the flavor was not great (cream cheese melted and the black rice felt like I was swallowing bullets). We also ordered 2 baked mussels which when these came out 1 baked mussel smelled extremely bad (1 was served rotten). I would've hope the kitchen had checked the food before serving it as this could be considered food poisoning. It was nice the door greeted took a drink off my tab but this place has some serious food quality and service. I wish I could recommend this place but I cannot until these issues have been resolved.
The seating is close and tight and the tables are tiny. The service was really slow considering how quiet the restaurant was and we had to request water refills multiple times before it happened. Not very friendly service, but polite enough. The individual portions are small but the quality is there. The fire dragon roll comes on a plate that's actually in flames so that's pretty neat.
Took my husband out for his birthday here, had never been before and am not a big sushi fan at the best of times. The food here was amazing! Best sushi I have ever tried, don't rule out sushi until you've tried the food here! Service was great, overall pleasant experience, will be back.
My absolute fave place for sushi! I crave their Sashimi! Would prefer a different delivery fee however; $7 is a little pricey for someone who lives about 3 blocks away.
