Really great inventory, the staffs were really helpful even though there were a lot of people for the Stampede, fair price for the quality.

I visited Smithbuilt Hats Inc.for the very first time, and WOW, what an amazing experience! I received royal treatment in the custom design of my hat. Watching this process is truly an art. Hands down the best hat shop ever. They build custom hats while you wait and some of the nicest people I have ever met working retail. Excellent value for your dollar and they know some secret breakfast spots. Just ask! My daughters got all dolled up with their cowboy hats and we are returning for more this summer.

We visited on the day before the Stampede Parade so believe me when I say it was busy! Despite the busyness the staff were attentive, nothing was too much trouble and I left with the perfect hat!

Went during stampede. They were crazy busy, and had multiple events going at the same time. I was help by the owner “Kam” and his lovely wife. They didn’t have my size at first but they personally ensured I got the right size from the unfinished hats. Excellent service, excellent product. And just really nice people working there! Thank you for giving me a great experience!

I was nervous about getting my hat reshaped after questionable service from other stores but I am very grateful for my experience with Richard, Kyle and Kelly. There selection and styles are outstanding compared to other stores with similiar pricing and i cant wait to return

If you want a cowboy hat this is the place to go! Free street parking right out their front door. It’s a lovely building with the store displaying a great selection of hats, an events room, an new area to work with a hat designer and of course the area with all the machines to build your hat. They have hats for everyone. Starting around $40.00 up to $540.00+ depending on what you are looking for. You can pick a ready made hat off the racks or build your own custom hat. They have feathers, hat bands, boot jacks, hat jacks, travel hat boxes, and hat cleaning supplies. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and very helpful no matter your hat needs.

Just received my new beaver 20X felt cattleman cowboy hat, thank you so much! I absolutely love it, perfect fit and looks fantastic! The workmanship is outstanding. I have been wanting a new hat for ages but nothing available here in Australia had the 'look' that I really wanted, even the Akubra hat which Australia is famous for, didn't look right on me. But then my sister got me hooked on your iconic show; Heartland, and once I saw the Smithbilt hat with the cattleman crown and shovel shape, I knew that was what I wanted. So once again, thankyou so much to the team at Smithbilt, I am extremely happy with my hat, and I know it's going to be much loved for many years to come. I will definitely be recommending you guys!

I finally wanted to get proper cowboy hat. I was going to order it online but really glad I went in to look at what they had. They ended up stretching the hat for me so it would fit my head perfectly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Now I enjoy wearing my new hat because it fits perfectly.

Got my first cowboy hat here today, came all the way from Banff, Sarah Beth made my dream come true. Excellent customer service, two lovely ladies upfront have got so much passion for what they do. I will very much indeed recommend this place. Cheers

Fantastic place. Treated like family by staff who helped me pick a hat, offered to print me a T shirt which was out of stock, and made me and the family coffee while we waited. Can’t recall when I’ve been treated better in a business. Cemented my business for any other hats I might want.

We went into Smithbilt hats today not sure what to expect as we have read some bad reviews. However when we entered their store we were greeted with a smile and a firm handshake. Max was very knowledgeable about all there products and listened to what I was looking for in a hat. He steered us to the right hat and color and size. Max also steamed and shaped the hat for a perfect fit

They have an awesome venue for private events which is easily one of the most unique and fun places for corporate parties.

Max was great to deal with, shaped and boxed up my order. Couldn’t recommend anywhere else that could match the experience.

My girlfriend and I went in to get her first hat, I’ve had lots over the years and they have almost alway been smithbilt. I have never been to this store before, so when she said she wanted a hat I thought there must be no better place to go. The store front is wonderful and it was every welcoming, we went in and were met by a fella wearing a smith with a wonderful welcoming demeanour, then we’re point in the direction of a young women who was the sales person she was very nice and told us all about the hats, my problem is with the unwelcoming atmosphere created by the staff they seemed as my girlfriend put it to know something we didn’t and we’re judging us for it. We still purchased a hat but I don’t think we’d ever go back. Smith bilt are fantastic hats and I truly love wearing them but customer service at this store is certainly lacking.

Great shop with great selection but if you venture in and are dealing with Brian turn around and comeback another day. As other reviews have noted, he is surly and creates a terrible atmosphere, all while you spend hundreds on a hat you'll own for a few decades. Seriously, call ahead and ask who is working, not worth your time to deal with extremely poor customer service from one individual. Shockingly disappointing, especially because the rest of the staff are wonderful.

I’m not a negative person and so I thought about writing this review for quite a while. In the end, I decided my experience was so bad, I had to let others know what they might be in for if they visit Smithbilt Hats. I wanted to get a new hat and thought I would go to what I thought was the best shop in Calgary. It turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong. I will say they have a large selection of pre-made hats. So do all of the western shops around here. I didn’t see anything I couldn’t get elsewhere. That’s about the only good thing I have to say about the place, thus two stars. We were ‘helped’ by a big guy named Brian. He had no charm whatsoever, and barely said a word the whole time we had to deal with him. Any question was answered by silence or a grunt. He seemed angry and we felt very unwelcome. To be honest, we should have left. But, we didn’t. I still don’t know why. After selecting a hat, he formed it as requested. His approach was ham handed to say the least. I was so flustered, I didn’t realised he’d messed up the crown until I got home. I had to take it back the next day for repair. I would have expected a lot more for the $300 I gave them. I will never go back there or recommend the place to anyone. The most you’ll get from me is a warning to stay away. Strangely enough, one of my friends got a hat there as well. His story is oddly similar to mine. We both felt like outsiders in an exclusive club. If you absolutely need a custom hat, check around before going to this place.

We were excited to purchase a hat for my husband to wear on stage but we ended up deflated and disappointed after one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Brian came reluctantly out of his office and stood there while we looked around. I asked for his advice and input. I
, asked questions and tried to get some engagement from him but got absolutely nothing. We felt like we were unwelcome in the store. He was sullen and unfriendly and I won’t go back. So disappointing.

Smithbilt is absolutely amazing! Once again they have created a one of kind hat for me that has turned out perfectly. For several months I’ve had my eye on a limited edition called the Dusty Rose and decided to get it for this years Calgary Stampede. Through the help and guidance of their staff Cody built one from scratch and then shaped it to match my unique style. Every single time I wear one of my Smithbilt hats I receive a compliment from a complete stranger followed by the question ‘where did you get your hat? ’ If you are looking for pure quality, something that is one of a kind, and a timeless piece, go to Smithbilt.

Went into Smithbilt to get a felt cowboy hat with a bull rider crown - shop staff were attentive, with a guy helping me pick out a colour and style. We then watched him shape the hat by hand, which was very cool - great quality Canadian-made hat which has stood up to various conditions since I got it, definitely recommend

Wide selection of quality hand made hats, and the staff was wonderful, finding time to help us even though they where already spread thin

Love the hats, just a shame about the service which was sorely lacking. Would also have liked to be able to see the hat I actually wanted in the store, even a sample, rather than having to order and wait six weeks. I do appreciate a good milliner though and the store is worth a visit even if just to see the range.

These guys are the real deal, old school cowboy hat makers who’ll treat you right. Very impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. I’ll be back for sure
