Would be nice to have a renovation in this store. Every Sobeys around here have had a Reno several times and this one still looking old and falling apart. I drive out of my way to go to other Sobeys for this
After shopping here for over a year, there are few good things to write about anymore.
The produce is generally pretty poor quality, you have at least a 50% chance of getting a moldy basket of strawberries or raspberries. The bakery is incredibly disappointing, they leave fresh baked items on the shelf for days, and have bough croissants only to find they are hard as a rock at home. If I don't check the dates I'm at risk of stale or moldy food being sold to me.
The meat selection is pretty good, again, check the dates - food often sits too long on shelves.
I shop here often! From time to time the produce is in a bad state but overall selection is fine. Now the reason I'm writing is I have a blast with staff usually. But one woman who is elderly and wears glasses. Has become extremely opinionated crass and rude. She manhandles the food and items I purchase and bags them poorly deliberately. All while giving very negative conversation about her opinions and views on life and people and situations. I won't be going to her till ever again and iam disappointed in her professionalism. If your not happy than go get another job or a different department.
The amount of fresh fruit packed in deli trays is getting less and less for the same price. That equates to a passive price increase for consumers. Less products for same price.
Update - 23 Jul 2023 - I typically get decorated cakes at Safeway because they always do special orders really well. I wanted to support local this time and decided to order a birthday cake for my aunt and uncle's birthday.
I found it difficult to try to convey to one clerk that I wanted a 2 layer cake, half chocolate and half vanilla. I gave the names I wanted for the respective side along with the ages - 93 and 87. I also asked for Happy to be put across the top and Birthday across the bottom of the cake with flowers to decorate the corners.
When I went to pick it up, Happy Birthday was nowhere to be found, the age of my aunt was 83 instead of 87 and the flowers looked like blobs of icing.
I stated my disappointment about this and said I could forego the happy birthday but the age has to be changed. The decorator did change it but overall the order was wrong, no discount was offered and it looked very amateurish.
The cake was good but wanting to celebrate two birthdays with a special looking cake was disappointing and I would say that if you want special orders take a drive down the hill to Safeway and pay a few dollars more because you will at least get what you want. I'm adding a picture of the "flowers" that was on the cake.
Just picked up a small Baby Spinach and it was wet throughout. Tried washing - the residue was green in colour and the entire package of spinach was soggy. With three days remaining on its best before date I assumed the moisture was on the bottom only. Sobeys should be ashamed of selling a product not fit for consumption. Now I remember why I don’t by produce at Sobeys any longer.
I no longer shop here even though I live very close by. They never have fresh bakery items like bread or buns before 11am. The last few times I needed fresh basil I didn't buy it, it was almost black. They insist on storing it in the refrigerated section (basil needs to be stored at room temp) even though I've mentioned it a few times to the produce employee, they just look at me with a blank stare. Finally, their prices have gotten outrageous recently, I take the extra 5 minutes and drive to Superstore or Co-op where I can buy better quality for lower prices.
The older lady at the till is so unprofessional and rude. (The one with graying hair). She keeps saying to the manager “ I’m out of here! ” Took her lunchbag and left: Prior to that she keeps whispering something to the manager. She talked to us rudely in front of the kids. I tried to be patient and kept my cool. I was about to confront her with her attitude but I kept my cool as I don’t want my kids to witness confrontation. We are professional adults yet the way she talked to us was just unacceptable. The kids were looking at her like what was wrong with this rude lady. Why is she mean to our parents. So, so rude!
This actually a good store! Clean, good employees, but produce could be a little better. Dried out mushrooms don't sell, so kinda pointless to put it on the shelf.
Produce is never fresh, today they had no chicken, and when I say no chicken, I mean the shelf was completely bare. It seems to be getting progressively worse at this location. Wont be back, I’ll drive to Safeway down the hill where I can actually get all the groceries on my list
Just really want to thankyou for bringing in the Arizona Sweet Tea.it might even be here in Calgary but we have always gone across the line to get it.came in yesterday and there was a whole display.thank you
Sobeys sets the standard for this business line and this store proved it again. Good customer service and great quality products! Bakery is loaded with fresh goods
Bakery can't seem to ever get it right. Kizer buns half the size. Flat cheese buns. No selection. Have found myself going to other Sobeys to find the products at way better quality.
Always a good experience when I go. The store is clean, everything is organized. The staff seem a little bit tired and some grumpy, but other than that. This location has everything I'm looking for when I visit.
I just went for milk and a few small things and was extremely impressed with the cashier, P. Who was on the only till open after 9 pm. Struggling in the heat wave I forgot my bags, and had difficulty hearing between the masks and the barriers but she was so kind and patient. It was such impressive customer service and human compassion that made the interaction the most positive encounter of my day. The prices might be higher than where I usually shop but the customer experience at my local Sobey's is impressive. People like this make all the difference.
There are other Sobeys that are closer to my house but this one has the friendliest staff! Even my daughter wants to come here with me and she hates grocery shopping.
Always great service with friendly staff members. Except for the guy in the produce section who belittled me because I was in his way. Haven't been back since as his manager defended him and were having a laugh when I told him what had happened.
The store typically has all items someone needs before heading to heritage stores. You can also order butter croissants to be made at a specific time in the morning and avoid buying previously frozen items, which you might want to freeze, by requesting things be brought to you from the back in a frozen state.
Veggies and fruit tend to be pricey.
I visited them all, and this is by far the best Sobey's in South Calgary.
Only go to buy an item or 2 as their prices are way too higher for the same products available in any other big name, the only thing I like in sobeys is their cakes better in taste than superstore
Coming back here for the third time to look for the item I couldn't find last time because it was sold out. It was on sale today so that was a good deal
It is excellent for quick visits. I would not recommend for buying monthly groceries due to the price but it is great when you are missing a few things. Staff is always welcoming and this store is well maintained.
This place is usually pretty professional and fast paced tillers. Good customer service. Usually has everything in stock but I'd watch out for the blue haired woman and the other pink haired woman they usually aren't great at their job.
Open store with reasonable service and wait times. Good place for local groceries. First Tuesday of Month is 15% discount or 10* Airmiles. A great deal!
I was disappointed as I bought prepared breaded chicken that was package the same day we tried to eat one piece. Rock hard dry chicken. I was able to return it it which was good. That cashier was friendly service. Then I bought yogurt that was curdled. I did not have the time to return that. I also asked the cashier the first time I went there to repeat himself as he is wearing a mask. He was annoyed that he had to repeat himself. I explained I was hard if hearing and he was indifferent. I willing to give the store a second chance though as it is so close to my house but I'm disappointment thus far.
Consistently terrible. No baskets, carts strewn all around the parking lot, expired product everywhere you turn, staple items out of stock, lack of selection, flyer advertised items not in stock, shelves terribly faced and organized, staff cramming the aisles constantly and making no effort to get out of the way while they stock shelves at a glacial pace - it's just bleak all around. I live right next to this place and have genuinely considered moving to avoid shopping there.
I've always had an enjoyable shopping experience here. Such wonderful staff; knowledgeable about even obscure items and just in general: great people! This spot is my go-to local grocery store for great prices, amazing service, and excellent selection.
Really stupid that you brought in paper bags without handles and haven't taught your staff how to pack them. Paper rips they dont hold as much, teach your staff
Decent variety of groceries, but PRICES ARE VERY HIGH compared to other gorcery stores.they are definitely preying on the most vulnerable individuals with all the seniors homes and low income housing in the area. This makes them a poor community ambassador in my view.
Also won't price match with other certain grocery stores. Stars give only for convenient location.
Wish there are more check out lanes open during weekends and late nights. The customer representative should be helping customers with fast and efficient check out instead of standing in a group near the self serve machines. Other than that the product selection is good and you can always find fresh produce and great bakery items.
Can get alot of good things on sale, otherwise prices can be comparable to Safeway. I always come here for 15 litre water jugs to refill my water cooler because they have spring water which is what I prefer.
I just bought roasted whole chicken from Bridlewood Sobeys SW, Calgary and it raw inside! I gave couple pieces to my toddler until I got it’s still undercooked. Moreover this is not the first time! So I had to done it by myself.
