I often feel a little lost in the mall due to its shape, but it's accessible and I always find what I need. Has a Safeway grocery store and a London Drugs which requires their own entrances. Has everything you need in a shopping mall, including services, shopping, coffee shops and a good food court. Excellent transit location, with a train station.
It's 2023.30 years ago alt style people may have mostly been druggies and thieves but this is nowhere near true enough these days to justify stereotyping people that way. Those people make up a very very VERY small minority of alt people these days. I felt very uncomfortable there because there was a heavy security presence to the point of every 15 steps I crossed paths with more security and EVERY single one gave me those warning looks they give that's supposed to communicate "I'm watching you. You better behave" and stared me down aggressively until I passed by them. Even the one security guy that worked for a store not the mall and was posted at the store entrance was giving me a warning look raising his eyebrow at me staring me down and I was just walking by the store not even going in! I felt very unwelcome there. Security needs to stop living in 1995 and prior. Most of them were pretty young too, I don't understand why security here is so backwards. From my experience working retail it's not the people that dress alt that steal it's the people that dress urban or the basic dressed teenagers.
My 1-star review is ALL about the bathroom (in food court). C'mon, what third world country are we living in? HORRIFIC PEE SMELL that just won't go away. Sticky, unwashed floors (always) and cleaning staff that I've called out twice in my last 2 visits. The goof just shrugs his shoulders and grins. Disgusting and absolutely unacceptable cleaning practices. Have you people even heard of air fresheners?
Lisa in guest service center is the best. Unfortunately my son lost his Nintendo Switch case full of games before closure and we couldn’t locate it yesterday. It took me a call and a short wait so Lisa could get it! Thank you so much!
I used to visit this mall weekly growing up. It is definitely the "fanciest" mall in the city. It specializes is luxury clothing such as Aritizia, The Hudson's Bay, and Bikini Village. The food court in the mall is diverse enough with lots of seating and nearby "fancy" washrooms. Southgate mall's washrooms are unique in the way that there's family restrooms where in the stall there's a regular toilet, and a mini kid version. This helps make Southgate mall inclusive for families of small children. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is simply because of store options. It's not a bad selection, just not as diverse as Kingsway or West Edmonton Mall
You are asked for personal medical information from a untrained individual before being seated at the food court with no distance markers on floor.while he allows others to pass by us on line in very close proximity to our food
The christmas decorations are pretty. Lots of stores opened and many great choices. The mall was clean and sidewalks were safe too walk on. Staff are friendly and professional.
Don't deal with Southgate Mall if you are buying gift cards! I received one in 2018 and on Saturday when I tried to use it I was told the $100 card was only now worth $52.50 because of "fees". Totally illegal in Alberta. Noe fees or expiry date are the rules! DO NOT DEAL there!
No ground floor parking in the middle on the west side sucks. I don't care for malls but had no choice as was looking for something specific. It's ok as far as malls go I guess.
The mall is clean. There is ample parking. The washrooms are clean. The food court is decent. However malls are dying and Southgate is no exception, the selection of stores is what remains of big box retail and they are all underwhelming.
Hands down the best shopping mall in Edmonton. Great selection of stores, well laid out, ample parking, central location. And I'll argue, the best food court in an Edmonton mall. In
The Christmas decorations are up! Loving the green and white theme! (Green is one of my favourite colours). Look at the texture on that Christmas tree, btw. A subtle reference to The Grinch’s shaggy, moss-like coat, perhaps? Lol.
There is a ton of parking. Just pick any entrance and you should be able to get a good spot. This mall is just the perfect size. Big but too big. It has both high end shops and shops for the budget conscience. It has the unique and the familiar chain stores.
Excited to see the new expansion, this mall is great for many shopping endeavors and has been constantly improving over the years. One of my go-to's for sure.
The patio near the bus station is incredible during the nicer months and birds always flock around you as you enjoy the decor, it's one of my favorite in the city.
Great selection of stores. All precautions for Covid are done. Went to the Body Shop and Indigo. Very helpful staff at both places. The washroom is very well maintained as well.
This is by far Edmonton's best shopping in the city. For both every store I've ever dealt with has awesome staff, and have gone above and beyond for me. Great good and very, VERY clean place.
Welcoming, mix of all sorts of requirements - food, bar, book shop, fashionable garments along with available sitting arrangements, people can sit, read & enjoy gossiping - very welcoming. I visited regularly while I had been there from 2013 to 2018.
Great mall but needs more active security. I've almost been robbed a few times walking through/out of here. Especially onto the train part. Be cautious. Usually it's pretty safe otherwise and I love the options for stores and food. I also like that they actually have a security station you can.walk into with a complaint. They do a great job but I think we need more security guards out patrolling for theft and other crime.
Not a lot of variety and to be honest for a mall it has always seemed empty to me. Though, I used to go there with a really close friend but now I don't really have an e use to go because he is no longer in my life.
Number of people is limited in stores, but not in the mall itself. The hallways get very congested during peak times and even though the food court seating is closed, people still sit at benches and take their masks off to eat, drink, talk, etc. I don't really see how that's any better. And for some reason there are still tables available for use at multiple entrances. Quite a few people in the mall do not wear masks, and even the ones that do, often don't wear them properly. Good assortment of stores, but their COVID-19 precautions are practically nothing.
One of the best malls I’ve been to others than west Ed mall. I really like the food court and their variety of fast food places to choose from. A decent selection of stores like dollarama and apple store.
Overall Southgate is good mall to go to. While it is considerably smaller than the other major shopping centres in Edmonton, they offer a variety of stores to shop from and have a decent range of selection in the food court. A majority of the stores are more or less mid to high end, with the Dollar store tucked and hidden away in the basement.
I had the most terrible experience with Southgate guest service. I purchased $500 worth of gift cards on Oct 18th when they had a promotion of 10% back onto bonus cards. The guest service clerk Svatlana didn't tell us the bonus cards would expire in the same month. (Come on what kind of gift card expired in 2 weeks) They didn't have that on the promotion page as well. I only found out when I tried to use the $50 bonus cards on Christmas eve. We felt cheated.
We went to the guest service to try to get this resolved but instead, the guest service clerk was very rude and started yelling at us to ask to come back to talk to the manager next Monday. My wife told her to calm down but instead, she raised her voice again in front of us and kids. I asked who I could talk to next week she said she didn't know as apparently, they have more than one manager.
Today (12/29), I went to the mall at noon and tried to talk to the Mall manager, the guest service clerk again said the manager is on vacation and not going to be here next week. I asked how many managers they have and she said just one.
Seriously, Southgate mall! You should do better training your staffs. What a gong show.
