Service was super quick, well done, and in the end much less expensive than I had anticipated. Really happy - and happy to highly recommend their services.
The team at Southwest was exceedingly professional and knowledgeable. Matthew and Jordi helped me understand every item on the service plan. Cannot recommend this shop enough.
Took my vehicle in because of a grinding noise on the rear. They recommended a full inspection as it is an older vehicle and I agreed to it. While they were friendly, and took the time to look at my vehicle in a timely manner, the 3 page list of recommendations were outrageous. I received a $7000 quote of “recommendations” including over $1500 for rear calipers, brakes and rotors. I took my vehicle to another shop for a second opinion and out of the 3 pages, I only required a new battery, and rear brakes/caliper and rotors which didn’t even come close to $1500. Save your time and money folks!
Convenient location on 14th street. Had a leaking tire. Was able to get an appointment the same day, got the tire looked at and repaired. Friendly service.
Everytime I've been I've felt like a member of the family not just a customer! They will go above and beyond to help you and fix what's wrong, as well as identify other things. This being said they're so good with noting what is important and what can wait, which is so helpful when on a budget! The only mechanic I would go to!
Nice to have mechanics that I trust. No longer will I overpay a dealership for work that didn't need to be done. Southwest Auto will always do what needs to be done at the best price.
Thankyou Jason for answering my electrical questions. I had a sudden electrical problem and even though the shop was currently booked up and busy with seasonal services, Jason had me bring my car in anyways and squeezed it into the schedule. I consider SW AUTO one of the most efficient, caring, and courteous businesses in Calgary. Work ethics are outstanding and I always learn something new about my car. I have been bringing in my car regularly for 7 years because they are honest, thorough, polite and professional and have proven to be trusted, knowledgeable and highly skilled.
Got my Camry recently serviced, throughly happy with the service provided by the team. Very knowledgeable and professional, every part that needed to be changed or replaced was explained clearly as to why it needed to be done. The car seems to have gotten a new life. You get a whole friendly neighbourhood auto service vibe. Thank you guys! Big shout out to Jordy, Victor, Clark and Noel. Thank you again.
Highly recommend this shop for quick efficient and honest work. I brought my car in at 10: 30 this morning and by 12 I received a call stating everything was fixed. They charged me significantly less than what i was previously quoted from other shops as well. Friendly staff that make an effort to ensure you're taken care of. Will be coming back without a doubt.
Start to finish, dealing with these fellas was a treat. Dropped my car off in the morning, had it all fixed up and squared away before the end of the day. Talking with them, I feel confident that they are knowledgeable, straight forward, and fair. After just tootling around the block after I picked my car up, I could feel a substantial improvement in the handling. Job well done.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Being from out of town with a friends car, I ran into some trouble and they were kind, quick, professional and courteous. I would definitely bring my business to these guys!
I started using this shop in 2020 and the service has always been excellent. I do not hesitate to take my vehicle here for regular service, or incidental repairs.
I can only compare their rate for an oil change against quick service lube shops. Their price for an oil change is higher than a lube shop, but the quality of service earns the price increase. I will not take my car back to a minit lube etc.anymore, the service is that good.
It's not unusual for the shop to call back having found an extra couple problems other than what I brought my vehicle in for. This is to be expected since I don't do full maintenance inspections on my own car. With that said, the issues that are found/reported are real. I verified a couple of them myself to be sure. That is to say, they're not scamming; they're just thorough.
Overall, excellent service and appropriate prices make this place great.
Excellent, Professional Service and Very Fair Billing
I don't take my car, or my kid's cars in for service very often - typically doing the work myself. My daughter's carbureted old Mustang had a troublesome choke issue that I couldn't figure out and the guys there got the car in right away and got to work on it. Noel kept me well informed, but because the issue needed a bunch of cold starts, it took a while to get it properly tuned up and it need to stay for an extra day. My daughter needed a car for the next day so Noel gave her a loaner car - no charge.
When the car was done the second day, the bill was for just one hour of labour. I even argued with Noel that I would have thought it should be more, or that I should then pay for the loaner but he refused - saying that was just how they do business.
All of the guys there are very courteous and helpful. The shop is just like the old neighborhood service centers and it is much better dealing with them than going to a dealership shop.
I had a dead battery and went to the shop to have a new one installed. Jordy was able to fit me in promptly and when I asked for a suggestion for a tow truck he gave a great recommendation. While it was there I asked if they wouldn't mind changing the oil and doing a general inspection of things. I had bought my Rav4 used and it had been about a year and a half since there had been any issues. Unfortunately, issues were found and I needed put some repairs into it. Jordy was very kind and walked me through the areas that they had found. I asked him to prioritise them so that I might get the major ones addressed and finish the rest in the New Year. The work was done in 2 days and when I came to pick up my car they had fixed a couple little things at no cost which blew me away. Additionally, Jordy offered me a roadside assistance kit which was an awesome bonus. I cannot recommend this shop enough, my experience was great, and Jordy was fantastic!
Stopped in this blizzardy morning for wiper blades and Noel and the tech were amazing. Got my wiper blades installed fast and very inexpensively! Not my first time here and wont be my last. Very friendly and fast service. Definitely would recommend
Brought my SUV in for an out of province inspection. When I dropped my car off at 8am, I notified the guys that I would be going to the mountains for a couple hours and would be back before 5pm to pick it up. They got my vehicle in straight away, and by 10: 05 called to notify me the work was complete. I was able to pick it up before leaving town and avoid rushing back before closing. Thanks for being very accommodating!
I brought my car in here for a rather nasty rattling noise and these guys were absolutely fantastic. Service was quick and very reasonably priced for what they did. They had my car fixed and ready to be picked up the same day, I will definitely be going back to them for any other car maintenance.
I use my car for work very regularly, so when I noticed a pretty gnarley shake in my front end I was concerned. Southwest auto helped to diagnose the problem and fix it as well as find a completely broken in half bolt connected to my rear control rod that they fixed which could have been dangerous. They were quick, thorough, and decently priced. They didn't try to up sell me on anything, but did make recommendations which were appreciated. At the end of everything I will 100% be using these guys again in the future.

I would and have recommended southwest auto to anyone. Not only do they provide great service but they are fairly priced, the employees are honest and always go over and above. I would give three thumbs up if I could!
I have been bringing my 2005 Toyoto Echo to SW Auto Service twice a year for regular maintenance ever since 2018. Kevin and his team came highly recommended by a friend and I can honestly say choosing to have my car serviced here has proven itself to be the best decision of my life. The quality and skill and efficiency at this shop is never less than outstanding. I have had various team members work on my car, and I have never been disappointed. Kevin runs a tight ship and I can trust that the work has been done properly and honestly. I love the detailed report they provide with each visit. They have maintained my car so it continues to run the way it did when I first purchased it brand new in 2005. With a keen eye for detail, any findings of concern are always reviewed with me first before proceeding. I do not like unexpected surprises. Quality thorough service is what I value and its what I always get so that's why I'm happy and why I keep coming back.
I really wanted to trust this company. After bringing my vehicle in for an oil change, I was informed that it needed immediate work done to the brakes, that it was unsafe to drive off the lot and ought to be towed if I wanted to take it elsewhere. One man told me he wouldn't let his wife get in the vehicle in its condition and that I ought to be very careful driving it the few blocks back to my house. I did drive it off the lot - to three other mechanics for opinions. All three mechanics and co.confirmed that my vehicle is in excellent condition, with no brake leaks or safety concerns. My vehicle has since been switched from SK insurance to AB insurance with no quarrels. I am still in shock that these folks would insight so much fear in me in order to make money. I do NOT recommend this company.
Edited-Added a star. It was brought to my attention that they did in fact get me in last minute and did according to them wave the labour. The cost of the items fixed was still quite high everything considered and they fixed both washer nozzles when only one was broken. This is a piece smaller than my fingernail and was quite pricy.
The gentleman I dealt with was super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I realized when I got home that I had paid for double the service I asked for. Partly my fault for not checking but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Probably won’t be back especially since I’ve moved. Found it overpriced.
The staff was very transparent on the costs and work needed for my vehicle to pass an out of province inspection. They also noted items that will soon need repair but didn’t pressure me to do it, but instead shared what the cost would be and that’s it. They were very quick for what I consider is a very big job, and they stand behind their work. I definitely recommend visiting this business for your vehicle work and out of province inspections.
These guys are thorough, detail oriented, safety conscious, and reasonably priced. They don't cut corners, and will save you a dollar wherever they can. They'll also keep you updated on the status of your vehicle. Hands down the best service I've had in Calgary.
It's truly honest work. I neglected regular maintenance on my car, moved to AB and required an inspection. The repairs were not cheap, but Malcom got the work done quickly. The parts used, attention to detail, and flexibility all contribute to this review. Well done guys, I'll be back.
Excellent work and service. The team is always friendly regardless of talking to them in person or on the phone. Quotes have always been accurate for me. Have been taking my 2014 Rav4 there for about a year now for oil changes. They have also done breaks and other scheduled maintenance.
Southwest auto was able to identify and correct several issues with my car without any hassle over the past few years. However, I found that their services were more expensive in comparison to other auto shops.
The crew at Southwest Auto has some of the utmost amazing standards I have ever seen in the auto industry. They are company that is built on trust and integrity. I would highly recommend them for any of your automotive services.
This was one of the BEST experiences I have had in Calgary with automotive repair. They managed to fix an issue (on the first try) which was causing my car and engine temperature to get very hot while highway driving, which 3 other mechanics could not find the root cause of! I am very grateful for their help and will be a returning customer!
Coming from a family of mechanics who have owned our own business back in Ontario, I can confidently say that the team at Southwest Auto hold alot of the same high values and expertise I have came to know growing up. The team is very upfront about what work needs to be done and how it can be prioritized based on safety. The communicate very well on the work needed and give accurate quotes. I have been going to them for over a year and they have always done great work on my vehicle. I would recommend them to any of my friends.
This place is awesome! Super friendly, very professional and fast too. Everything I had done was done so well and quickly. They even have a loaner car if needed which does take some getting used to hahaha but it’s an amazing add on if you need to leave your car all day. Highly recommend taking your car in here especially if you want to support small local businesses.
Just by calling Southwest Auto Service I was greeted with a friendly voice and I felt reassured. Our service was fast and so convenient. We are happy to have found a shop only 2 blocks from home. We look forward to bringing our car back in for future services. Thank you
Honest, competent and timely service. They got my car, which admittedly I neglected maintenance on, running like a top. They were also able to give me a courtesy car which was nice. Great location too
Highly recommend to anyone needing some work on their car.
I'll start from scratch for the experience my family had with this Auto repair shop. My daughter had broken down on the side of the Crowfoot. Battery light came on, died about 5-10 minutes later. Being several hours away, I told her she will need to bring her car to a repair shop down there. Sounds like the alternator has failed. Tow truck driver dropped the car off at this shop in Calgary. After the weekend they got to taking a look at the car. Telling her it needed 1300 dollars to put a new alternator and Battery in. I had just replaced the battery within the last year. I gave them a call, talked to Malcolm explaining how I felt the alternator just needs to be replaced and charge the battery. They disagreed and claimed the alternator shorted out the battery, which is unheard of. I priced out the alternator. I was able to pick an alternator up at my cost for 90 dollars. Even at retail through the dealer, price is 132 plus tax. I looked up labour time, labour on this job is 1.3 hours. The price on the job should have been at least half of the given price. Test procedure to check an alternator is no more than 2 minutes. They charged nearly 160 dollars for simple testing. I ended up driving down three hours one way and fixing it in their parking lot for a whooping 90 dollars. I installed a new alternator, jump started her vehicle, allowed the battery to charge off my truck for about an hour. Took the cables off. Drove it, no issues with the battery. I'm not one to give negative reviews. I I just feel they felt they could take advantage of a college student. Its shops like this that give mechanics such a bad rep. I hope you think twice before having them perform any repairs on your vehicle.
EDIT: There is no ability to respond, therefore I will respond in my initial review. Discrediting myself as a technician and trying to put some nonsense together about the battery shorting out so other people reading the reviews do not understand your ridiculous take. I clearly proved to you guys the vehicle needed just an alternator. There was no attempt to test or charge the battery. I did tell Malcolm I had full warranty on the battery and did tell him I just wanted the alternator changed. You made a claim on a remanufactured part being cheaper, Chrysler parts come with a 2 year unlimited warranty. Don't see how that is relevant. Same quality with better warranty. I just wonder how many people have been overcharged for your repairs due to lack of a customer's mechanical knowledge. It really doesn't matter how many good reviews you have. All the negative reviews I've read, you put it back on your customer, not acknowledging you can make mistakes.
My girlfriend and I have both used these guys and they are excellent in every category. We've both had some rather pricey major repairs in the last couple years, but they are super clear in prioritizing what needs to be fixed/why, very accommodating in waiting for big decisions and then getting things done quickly, and do what they can to ease the bill. Haven't had any issues with their work, both vehicles run smoothly. Super friendly, always a pleasure!
Whoever answered the phone listened to my concern with my vehicle, put me hold and then came and literally laughed me off the phone. He had ZERO suggestions or feedback, could barely muster 'we are too busy' between laughter
I live 1 block from this place and will never recommend or seek their business.
I went to another location, they fixed it within 10min, FOR FREE, and were kind about the whole process. Not every problem may be 'worth your while' but being professional would be a good place to start
Southwest Auto Service (SWAS) demonstrated a failure to perform a thorough and quality controlled out of province (OoP) vehicle inspection (VI) to meet the Government of Alberta (GoA) requirements. SWAS's findings were incorrect (a) identifying a repair that was not required and demonstrating no due diligence in the client's perspective that the failure was adequately verified with GoA, as well as (b) missing two OoP-VI parameter failures.
I do not recommend taking your vehicle to SWSA for an OoP-VI. I am out $159 plus tax for SWSA's non-refunded VI.
There is nothing incorrect in the discrepancy I have described between the two inspections. We shall see what GoA finds as I have made a formal complaint due to the lack of alignment between the SWAS Oop-VI and the second VI, whose failings have been repaired and the vehicle passed. Should there have been an honest mistake, I can delete my review. However, as this experience has been the worst ever I want to share to help other Albertans avoid it.
I have been taking my car to Southwest Auto for regular maintence and oil changes for the past two years and they have provided excellent service everytime. They even provided me with a loaner car the one time my car was there overnight. Keep up the good work Kevin and team!
I am turning into a regular! I appreciate the team's willingness and transparency in discussing their diagnosis of a problem and the options available.
Happy with regular service - good pricing and reliable work thus far.
The guys there know about cars. They found some issues in my car although they will try to sell services that doesn't really need to be done right away. That's not the kind of mechanic I'm looking for. They asked $3000 to change a battery that is still running good, change 2 balls joints and replace suspension spring. I took to another place and get everything done except the battery for $500 CAD.
I have been to Southwest Auto Service for several services on a couple different vehicles and have always been very pleased with the service!
I first went to Southwest Auto Service a couple years ago for an out-of-province inspection. They were able to get us in for the inspection quickly and provided us with everything we needed to get our Alberta plates. It was a great experience!
More recently, we switched from using our dealership to using Southwest for regular vehicle maintenance and couldn't be happier! I typically speak with Jordy at the front desk and he is always respectful, helpful, and clearly outlines my service options, costs, and timelines. Unlike some past experiences with different shops and dealerships, with Southwest I feel like I'm making truly informed decisions supported by clear communication.
I am also happy to recommend Southwest Auto Service because I think that they genuinely care about their customers. I recently had to get towed to Southwest after-hours after draining my battery (tip: don't leave your headlights on when parked in the mountains!). I left a message that night and called again first thing the next morning and they had already gotten my car back up and running *and* were checking to make sure it wasn't anything more serious with the battery or charging systems - all at no cost! Truly great service and great people!
It was my first time going to a mechanic, and they made the process very easy and made me feel very at ease! They were really nice and helpful when I had questions. They said the car would be ready friday and I said I really needed it Thursday, and they bent over backwards to make sure it was ready when I needed it. My mom's been going there for a while and she's always happy. Will definitely continue going here.
Honest and quality service. They told me what needed to be done and why. It was completed in a timely manner. I would use them again. Thanks for the great work.
I went here for my out of province vehicle inspection back in 2018 and just went back again to get my breaks fixed. Trustworthy people and clear communication. They told me they were fully booked this week but to bring my car by anyway. They ended up having it fixed in less than two days. Will definitely be back!
Very disappointing experience! I decided to go to South-West Auto rather than going to the dealership - thinking to myself that the price, quality and experience would be better. I was very wrong.
The quote I received for $3,000.00 for breaks+rotors was more expensive than I anticipated. I decided to price check against a few other shops for the same scope of work. Even the dealership pricing was significantly less expensive. Comparable shops were closer to $1,200.00 - $1,300.00 with parts and labour (with a much quicker turnaround).
After discussing this with the person at the front desk, he claims that it's because the parts being used were the BEST and were products that they could stand behind. They offered to down-grade the parts following that comment.and then proceeded to tell me that it would only save me a couple hundred dollars and they'd use rebuilt calipers.seriously? I was just told that the reason the price was expensive because they were using the BEST parts, yet, to downgrade would only save a few hundred dollars?
I paid an inspection bill and picked up my truck and of course, they left the fuse box panels on the floor without reinstalling it. I would simply warn others, these guys will price gouge you.
