I stopped in for lunch today, I've been coming to this hidden gem since 2008. A friend of mine introduced it to me, and its one of our favorites. Today I tried the Chicken Cantonese Chowmein, it was great. Hubby thinks so too as he ate the left overs for dinner! Yum, thank you.
Can not say enough good things about this food, especially the wonton soup which came with more solid food than broth! We tried several appetizers, a spicy chicken dish, and fried rice, all of which were outstanding. The restaurant itself is neat and clean, nothing special, but the focus is on the food. Seems to be family run and seems to be a hidden gem. Don't hesitate!
The food here is delicious! I would have to say it's some of the best Chinese food I have ever experienced. The atmosphere is nice, clean, and all in all great! I would highly recommend to go here!
Ordered their Ginger Beef.when I got home the sauce was on the side, beef was dry, even after putting the sauce on it. Bland.and the rice was nothing to brag about.
Absolutely delicious. Come eat here, bring your friends and family. My fiancé and I came here once as we were referred by a friend. Now we can’t get enough and we keep coming back. Fresh naan with each order, Kind courteous staff, large portions and some of the highest quality food I’ve had. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had food this good and we eat out 2-3 times a month. It speaks for itself. Come see for yourself
Food was delicious - had the Pad Thai. Fair warning, it's a lot of food - the dishes are meant for sharing. Only real issue with this place is the lack of parking options.
My family has been going here for a very long time. The food is fantastic every time. The owners are kind and generous people. I couldn't recommend the place more!
I tried the Thai steamed dumplings and the Malaysian curry with chicken and shrimp. Both were delicious! It’s also great value for the quantity of food you get.
I always enjoy the hot and sour sizzling soup. We also ordered a couple of specials for the day. We enjoyed it all. The restaurant has changed little over the 15+ years of going. Food and service has been steady and reliable. They serve food that is sort of Thai sort of Chinese. I'd say a Chinese interpretation of Thai food.
Always good food from here. The portions are generous and the pricing is good. I don't think I've ever been disappointed when ordering from here. The food is never greasy.
If you’re looking for spring rolls that are gushing with oil and an overall smell of a dirty toilet coming from your food then this is place. How they have a 4.4 is beyond me.
I've been going to the Spicy Hut for at least 30 years. It is always great but I don't go so often now that I'm not downtown. Was just back yesterday for a visit. Not only is the food still fresh, plentiful and affordable, it is just delicious. But the kicker yesterday was that I was overcharged for my meal. I didn't notice and left the restaurant only to have Mr. Hong (the owner) run down the street after me to refund the overage! This is such a great demonstration of not only fantastic customer service, but honesty and integrity. Thank you Mr. Hong for all the years of providing great food at reasonable prices and for taking the time to chase after this customer! You rock!
Great amount of food for price and delicious! It didn't take long at all for the food to come to the table and waters were being filled constantly! Great place.
I used to be a pretty regular customer but my “last” delivery was a terrible experience because: (1) the restaurant messed up my order, (2) I’m sure that my food wasn’t made fresh, and (3) the manager wouldn’t correct the issue when I reached out. When I requested delivery on Sunday, the person who took my order on the phone said “30-40 minutes” - but the regular delivery driver showed up at my door 10 minutes later (and delivery typically takes about ~25 mins in my experience). This wasn’t nearly enough time for my food to be made fresh, and my order happened to be for common menu items (Ginger fried beef + Pad thai) so they just dispatched my order from under a hot lamp or something. I had asked for the food to be made “extra spicy”, and since I’m a regular I know the difference between the normal/menu version and “extra spicy” version. What I received were non-fresh normal/menu versions – not what I had ordered. When I called back to the restaurant the manager was very short with me when I complained of my order being wrong and the food tasting bland, his only offer was if I’d like the delivery driver to return and drop me off some ‘hot sauce’. Oh - and the ginger beef was 99% bread. Such a disappointing experience, I couldn't finish the food.
My wife and I really love Spicy Hut! It's the only restaurant that we have found that she can safely order gluten free menu items and has not had an issue. It is not a preference for her, she has a serious issue being celiac and reacts quite quickly. Her favourite is #55 the spicy crispy chicken! I love that I can still get wor won ton soup without having to worry about whether it is going to contanimate her meal. It's a great family owned business that is a bit of a hidden gem on Edmonton Trail.
A real gem. The combo Thai/Peking restaurant serves excellent dishes in a modest environment. Try the food and you’ll understand why locals stand by it. Recommend any curry dish.
Spicy Hut is the Best, best place to go too for Thai food. If you try their food you won't go anywhere else. You can have it mild or as spicy as you want.
Spicy Hut is the best Chinese food place! Fully delivered to my address with excellent service from BJ-EMS. Love the foods here. 10/10 would come again.
We went for dinner today as per my husbands suggestion because this place used to be really good. Tom yum soup- full of Tom yum paste, I could taste the grittiness and it was too sour and salty to even eat. Stuffed chicken wings- the only thing we didn't regret ordering. Seafood curry- they loaded it with sugar and when this was mentioned to the waitress her response was "white people like it sweet" Coconut rice- cold and old and no coconut flavour Pad Thai- was alright, but spicy
The owner started yelling at the staff in the kitchen after they greeted a couple that was their regulars. She screamed in chinese (my husbands chinese) to cook it properly for their regulars. So I guess we didn't get the VIP service.
What really upset me though, was we had a lot of take out and when we got home I realized that only 1/3 of our left over food was packed. So did they throw our food out? Or was it kept to re-serve the next customers? Because the orange slices that they used to decorate the plates were reused by soaking in water hence the reason why the rinds were all soggy and squishy. This place is horrible!
