Had good experiences here before however I paid premium price for birch firewood (they were out of pine), I ended up with a lot of gravel & bark & shavings as opposed to lumps of wood. It filled my green bin completely! A little disappointing considering they charge top dollar for birch! I can use a little as kindling but I wanted logs not kindling.
I highly recommend Spruce it up! Stacey has been working with my mom and I to help us up keep our plants and terrariums at home. She is so knowledgable and passionate! Definitely one of the garden centers that enriches the plant community.
I hate writing good reviews. Mostly out of laziness. Was sent to pick up a xmas tree against my will this evening. Ms Georgia and Mr Dylan were both beyond helpful. Is there such a thing as too much kindness and customer service? ! Good job to both of these people. Sigh.bah humbug. Thanks again to these two for their extreme patience. Merry Christmas you overachieving hard workers!
I found prune it up to be responsive in terms of setting up appointments. The crew came on time and were good at communicating what they were able to do and went over the work upon completion. They cleaned up my yard well…I would definitely recommend hiring them.
Great nursery, and what I most appreciate is the care that is reflected in the beauty plants, and you can get whatever you need to care for your garden
Great guys, arrived on time and set up and safety meeting was done, then the boys got stuck into the tree trimming job, they did a fantastic job of clearing out any dead branches, it has let so much more light in, they did a fantastic job of cleanup also, they so far as to get rid of a pile of spruce needles that where kinda of an eyesore, they did a great job, we would highly recommend spruce it up
The pruning service I received was so professional and very efficient. They worked safely and cleaned up so well! Did not disturb any of my other delicate plants and flowers - such a great job! Very nice guys
Oh yeah! Great and reasonable price, super talented tree climbers with "directed " falls. Three old Swedish Aspen's needed manual topping since the tops had died. This was an awkward situation with these super tall trees. A fence and neighbours to the north, my house to the west, Cable and electric wires to the south, and a narrow slot between a huge picea glauca and and veggie garden fence to the east. So climbing, and both gradual chopping and Rope-directed falls. Super nice crew, too! Great job under site foreman Niel. Thankyou!
Went to get a Christmas tree today. Amazing, helpful and friendly service! They even tied the tree to my car for me. The shop inside is filled with 100’s of amazing gifts and decorations. I’ll be back for sure!
The team of three gentlemen arrived early (fantastic) and did an amazing job.all of them were very courteous and helpful.we would recommend prune it up to anyone.
The team at Spruce it Up recently did some pruning on a couple of trees at our home in Calgary. I had a new Ohio Buckeye proactively pruned to help shape it's future growth and had an older Hawthorne shaped and thinned out. The guys did a great job!
Awesome customer service and great selection of plants- annuals and perennials, trees and shrubs. LARGE selection of planters as well and home and garden decor. Too much to list everything. LOVE this place.
40 foot tree looking VERY VERY sad. Spruce it Up pruned, then deep root fertilized twice over 1.5 years. Tree is one of the best looking in the neighbourhood now.
Prune it up has been looking after my trees for over six years now. My trees are healthy and look beautiful due to proper care and pruning. They know what they are doing. I would have preferred an update as to when they would arrive as I was told it would be around noon and instead was around 8: 30 am, but that would not make me not want to continue with them as their work has always been top notch.
I have hired prune it up to fertilize and trim my trees for a few years now and they always do great work. There staff is very professional and friendly and will continue to hire them year after year
This is our second year using Green It Up and we have been told by our lawn service that we have the nicest lawn of all the yards he tends, of which there are many. Our yard is over 20 years old and the grass is very green and healthy. Our trees and shrubs are noticeably healthier too. We highly recommend SIU. GIU!
Best Greenhouse in Calgary! We have been loyal customers for years and have loved watching the store continue to expand. It has always suited all our indoor/outdoor gardening needs. From house plants, to bulk compost, green it up fertilizer for our dog ridden lawn to seeds and seedlings for our vegetable garden we are covered at Spruce it Up. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. This is my happy place and I enjoy visiting often.
"Spruce It Up Garden Centre", has Outstanding customer service. I was looking to complete our beautiful outdoor garden fountain and thanks to, " Laurie, Brooke and Rowan" our fountain is now complete. A Big Thank-you for making the decision so simple. Your the Best
The team from Prune it up were first class Tree fertilizing, removal of dead or diseased trees was very efficient and fast. Everything was cleaned up The company who ground the stump of diseased tree were not as tidy, left a lot of debris on our lawn and mud on driveway They had to remove edging to access the tree and should have raked back the landscape rocks All in all that is why we have 4 stars and not 5
We had 5 trees fertilized. The job was completed quickly and efficiently and the workers were very polite. A negative was that the workers showed up unannounced. We had received a notification regarding the pruning work and had assumed the fertilization would occur at the same time. Fortunately we were home at the time and were able to direct them to the trees to be treated.
(I did not know that these products were now illegal in Canada. Wow.) You should be telling people to spray their Birch tree's with SEVIN as soon as the leaves come out and 1 week later, then 1 more time. I have been using SEVIN for 15 years in my Birch trees and I have no Birch Leaf Miner. I got 10 -32 OZ spray bottles of Tomato Fruit Set from down in Montana, and using it on my tomatoes in the greenhouse is amazing. I get lots of tomatoes right from the first set of flowers and up. It is like I said "Amazing" America has tomato fruit set, but we can't get it in Canada? Sick. I have lots of SEVIN, Ambush and Malathion for my life time. You might get these down south, if you make a trip down there. I have an address in Babb, Montana where I can send products, then drive down and get them.
We are never disappointed with the service we receive from Prune It Up. From Katie in the office to Mark and his initial visit to Neil and his crew - the customer service is excellent. They are thorough and they leave the site as clean as it was before they started. We consider them to be an essential part in caring for the investment we have made in our trees.
Great plants, vegetables, succulents. Excellent service picking up washed rocks. Helpful, professional, lots of staff to direct or help, knowledgeable. Great prices.
Misrepresentation and excessively high prices: The owner, Meryl Coombs and Terry, the Tree Manager represented in writing via email, that they were supplying me with two 70 mm Caliper Spring Snow Crab Trees which I had ordered early in May. After the trees were installed, I found out that the trees were in fact 60 mm Caliper. When I wrote Terry and asked for an explanation, he passed it off as a minor communication problem and that 60 MM Caliper tree is basically the same as a 70 mm Caliper tree (a 70 mm tree is usually 2 to 4 feet higher and of course a larger basket and tree trunk). I responded that I had copies of written emails stating I was to receive 70 mm Caliper trees and their pricing of the trees was based on this size tree. In addition, for a 60 mm Caliper tree the market price from a number of local tree farms I contacted was $ 150.00 less per tree. Terry did offer to remove the trees and return my money but I cannot take them up on this offer since all the tree farms are now sold out for the year of this model of tree.
The Prune It Up Team are fantastic, very knowledgeable, very flexible in scheduling services, very respectful and friendly. They clean up behind their work, exceptional service.
Our trees look great even though a decent amount was taken off. I was very pleased with how the shape was maintained and the trees still appear quite full. And everything was cleaned up nicely after the job was done.
We had four dead 40 foot trees that needed to be removed. Mark came out and got us a quote really quick, which we thought was a very reasonable price. The three guys who came to take the trees down were all great - very friendly, competent, helpful and cleaned up everything perfectly. Would highly recommend them and will be using them to Prune the new trees we will be putting in.
This place is not at all bad. Their quality seems to be good and prices are a little inflated. They have lot of varieties. Overall it is not at all a bad place to shop.
Will was friendly, courteous, timely and informative as he applied the deep root fertilizer. He was also very careful in stepping in areas where young plants were beginning their seasonal growth. I was impressed with the caring service.
Great advice on how to manage my newly planted trees that seemed to be dying after planting them. I used the fertilizer they suggested, and my trees are now thriving! Quality of plants is very good.
Don’t get your bulk gravel/sand or other rock materials here. The inexperienced kids (literally they are children) who load you with the materials ALWAYS damage trucks. The owner-Brad, knows it and doesn’t care. They make you sign a waiver saying they aren’t responsible because they know they will do damage. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Great garden center, loved the staff, they did a wonderful event for their 15th anniversary with ice cream cupcakes and t shirts, love the variety of plants they have
Please have your staff focus on customer service. Encourage your staff to bring their best selves to work everyday and avoid treating customers like second class citizens.
I'm going to avoid Spruce It Up for my future tree and shrub purchases. The lady that my wife and I spoke to was very rude and condescending. Actually laughed at one of our questions - do you have an on-line inventory of what's available? A simple, unfortunately, we don't have an on-line inventory would have sufficed - she decided to make a scene and belittle my wife and I for asking that question.
Nonetheless, there's other places near by that we received great service from.
Beautiful garden center you can find everything you need and even find things you didn't know you needed until you saw it! Professional and helpful staff round out the shopping experience!
They don't give a phone number and you can't call ahead, so you end up driving there to find their pop-up garden centre is closed. They have no return policy on purchased items. Some are returned; some aren't depending on how the wind blows. Great prices, though.
Contracted Spruce It Up to complete the landscaping on our new home in Riverstone. Meryl, Conrad, Luke and Cole and the rest of the landscaping crew were awesome to deal with and they did a great job!
Amazing selection, good pricing and everything was extremely healthy even with the crazy spring weather. Only issue is customers removing or not wearing masks without any staff intervention, but you can't really blame the staff for st*pid customers. Definitely my favorite garden center in Calgary
I think they always have the coolest selection of plants & you can always find stuff that's hard to find at other plant stores in Calgary (they're one of the only places I can find carnivorous plants). Love their selection of pots for plants as well! They are definitely the best place to go to find larger sized pots for your bigger plants
I have had six trees delivered and planted by Spruce it Up. Spent close to $2000 hoping they will be planted as they should to get the best results. After trees been planted I went to the backyard to check them out and found holes they dug were so small they barely fitted the root ball and in fact one of the bigger trees root ball was still exposed. Tree's barks been damaged probably during delivery but they did not tell me and in fact they planted that tree so the damage was hidden. Called several times and sent an email right after noticing it but no response yet. Really disappointed.
Updating my review here. Got a hone call from Spruce It Up same day posted this review and had the tree replaced next morning. Seems they were working on replacing the tree but forgot to call me and let me know. Lot manager stopped by couple of days after replacing the tree to check all trees and to make sure everything is to my satisfaction. I am actually impressed how quick they responded and how serious they take their business thus giving it a 5 star.
Hi there. I was at your business a while ago (late May) while in Calgary. We are moving from central Alberta to our dream land in southern Alberta. We have so much room for trees, but I know very little about the type of trees I wanted that would grow well, both short-term and long-term results. As I'm in the research stage before our move, I have visited a couple garden centres and yours was the last on my list. I can hardly express to you how satisfied I was and how much I learned from one of your employees. She was absolutely spot on with her knowledge (I checked it out later) and was one of the friendliest attendants I have come across in a very long time. We are definitely buying our trees from Spruce it Up.
This same employee also invited to come at Christmas time with the family to take family photos.what a great idea! I'm sure it will be decorated beautifully! We are definitely returning to do that.
Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name. Malorie, Valerie, maybe Callie, something very close. I do hope you know which employee I am referring to. She was a little older with brown curly hair and was in the teee lot.
Again, thanks for the superb experience we had there. The prices were a little more than we antiticipated, but the knowledge was worth the extra costs. See you soon with my Visa card!
The good: decent selection of indoor tropical plants (though I find the more rare plants they carry aren't always in great shape), good delivery rates for bulk products if you live in a nearby community like Walden, or Legacy
The bad: prices are outlandish for plants you could find for less than half the price elsewhere, I have purchased 2 indoor plants here that were littered with mealy bugs and scale, customer service has let me down considerably this year (I have been visiting every couple days to get some hops plants or seeds and kept being told they would arrive soon, my calls and then voicemails go unanswered about whether they've arrived, and I was completely ignored yesterday when I went in and asked an associate whether they had arrived or not.
Very busy due to early season but they were prepared and organized with people guiding traffic. As always, a great selection of indoor and seasonal plants and many other garden goodies. Still my 'go to' place for spring planting! You won't be disappointed.
Edit- I have spoken to a manager who was willing to replace the pieces that were burnt and resolve the issue for us, it seems there was confusion relating to policy on returning sod vs receiving poor quality sod. We will continue to purchase from Spruce It Up and we are happy with their customer service:)
We purchased a pallet of sod on Friday immediately after it arrived at the garden centre and rolled it out immediately after returning home 5 minutes away. Around 10 rolls were burnt and they will not refund or exchange them, how are we supposed to know they are burnt unless we roll them out first? We aren't able to unroll a pallet before taking it home. We rolled them out anyways but it looks horrible and not sure it will recover.
Super fun place to buy plants and they have so much variety, staff also seem happy to be working there. Bought this pilea and put with my friend and I love it.
I do not recommend their online ordering service at all! I ordered my supplies, paid for them and received an email confirming my order. When called to say it was ready, I went to pick it up and found very key items were “no longer available. ” Even though they let me order and pay for them online. No one informed me before I came and the employees told me if I wanted to add something else in its place I would need to submit another online order. (I was refunded for the missing supplies). When I contacted the store with this concern, they never got back to me. Trying to support local businesses but this one really disappointed.
Spruce It Up has a wide variety of plants, gardening tools, and decor for both the outdoors as well as the indoors! The staff are knowledgeable and can help you with any questions you may have about anything to do with gardening! Came here last summer and had a few questions about fertilizer and BRAD was very very helpful! My number 1 place to shop for any gardening needs. I like to always support locally owned businesses. If I’m up early on Sundays I love listening to Meryl on AM 770 host of “ let’s talk gardening “. As I am a newbie at gardening. Thank you Spruce it up crew! Keep doing what ur doing!
We have used Spruce it up for tree purchases in past years and for pruning & Fertilizing our hedge just last summer. I have been very happy with the total experience right from when they come out to give us an estimate on the work we have asked for to the completed work. There was some missed spots that I told them about (due to a misunderstanding) and they quickly came out and corrected the issue. I would definitely recommend them.
The staff was helpful explaining how my new plants should be cared for and how to help my failing plants at home. I found the place inviting and cleaning with an interesting choice of indoor plants to try my hand at. Bonus! They are having a sale!
First time going to Spruce it up. The staff were very friendly, even to my grumpy 5 year old. There is a great variety of house plants and the staff was very informative about all of them. Well definitely be coming back in the spring when I start my outdoor/indoor projects.
Spruce it up right now has great Christmas decorations for inside your home and outside as well. If you haven't been to Spruce it up garden centre now is the time to stop in.
Convenient location for the south. Easy to access bulk bins. Pretty helpful staff with knowledge to get outdoor work done right. We've been able to do most of our landscaping here just minutes away from Legacy!
These guys have done our front yard landscaping. All stages of the project from design to installation gave us only positive impressions. Definitely recommend.
When we first arrived our three year old went to touch a water sculpture which happened to be by some small potted plants. As we stopped our daughter and instructed her to not touch things an employee came over and in a demeaning tone said "those plants are $75.00 each", shook her head and walked away. First, our daughter is three and we stopped her. Second if our kids break something we pay for it as it is correct thing to do.
Now, to be fair this employee is probably not reflective of the company as a whole. However, they lost our business that day and we probably will not return. Interactions with every customer do matter.
It is a typical large retail garden center. There is a smaller more detailed oriented green house 5 minutes away in De Winton.
The folks here are always so helpful and nice about my black thumb! Thank you for helping me out every time I'm in! I'm working towards being having a green thumb soon.
Great quality and selection. Love the plants, they are great quality, but can get pricey. The sod I bought was cheaper and bigger than the sod at Home Depot, so it all balances out. I will always support these guys a little each year.
Found what I needed, but customer service was not great. Employee made me feel like I should know what product was about when I started to ask question I was cut short and told to follow directions on product.
Awesome place such great huge variety, only thing I had trouble with was finding out where/what they had in stock as even the workers didn’t seem to know everything they had. I managed to find several plants in a bunch of different locations that they said they did not have, but that’s okay since it made the experience far more engaging trying to find the hidden plants! This place is a treasure trove.
Merle and entire team at Spruce It Up.we absolutely love your trees, sod (best we've ever found), plants, garden mix, mulch and other landscaping items.
You have exemplary customer service and so kind, knowledgeable and helpful every visit!
You will never get ahold of them on the phone. That’s my only complaint. Otherwise they’re great. Very kind and knowledgeable staff. Just the lack of phone answering is frustrating!
