- dropped my phone in the kimchi soup - lost my job today (its complicated but theres no hard feelings) - spilled my dumpling dipping sauce but the food here makes it all okay, i love you steel wheels <3 never change!
Spent many late nights here in the late 90s/early 2000s. The Bulgoki pizza is STILL great, and I'm sure some of our graffiti from way back is somewhere on these walls. I hope Steel Wheels lives forever!
Late night bulgogi kimchi pizza was a surprise. Who would have guessed that this combo worked so well. The pizza was amazing and the crust has a very different texture and taste that I loved. Awesome little hideaway for a late night treat with a great vibe. Check out the graffiti over all of the walls.
The absolute best little hole in the wall. Food is great and fast, mostly comfort food, but that's a great and refreshing twist for me. Will always go back sporadically.
This review is only based on the pizza. I'm sure the Korean food was much better. Pizza is similar to Pizza Hut in crust, not greasy though. Very bland. Sadly chains are much better. Try other menu items for sure. Pizza though, I'd give it to a hobo.
This place is the best! You get to enjoy the amateur art of paper plates on the walls and ceilings. The food is delicious! Try the bulgogi meal combo you get a delicious palet of beef green peppers mushrooms and broccoli dressed over a bed of yummy rice with sauce spiced to your liking. It also comes with 2 spring rolls and a beverage. They arr licensed as well for you who enjoy brewskis. I HIGH-ly recommend this fabulous establishment, the food is good and the service is the best! They're so friendly and very considerate kind hearted folks! Thank you Steel Wheels for being a part of my life for the last 16 years of my life.bless you
I’ve been coming here for 13 years. The quality food is insane. A total “dive” as far as decor and stuff but the food is top notch both the pizza and the Korean food! Just wow!
Everyone's favorite late night dive. The pizza tastes like cardboard, the Korean food is amazing, the soju flows like water and it's perfect the way it is.
Food was beyond exceptional and prices are good. The atmosphere is unique with the graffities. I can without a doubt recommend the stir fried squid, kimchi soup, and kimchi bulgogi pizza. This is also a family owned and run restaurant so I'm more than happy to support them.
Ordered two slices of bulgogi and hawaiian pizza for $5 per 2 slices and the fish cake soup.
The pizza was very cheesy and tasty. The bread the pizza was on was thick and soft and kind of reminds me of corn bread but toasted. The pizza was good but I would’ve preferred it to be a bit more saucy and the crust to be more moist. It’s hard to eat the crust without any dipping sauce.
The fish cake soup was very delicious. It was a clear broth with a lot of umami flavour. The fish cake was soft and tasted great. The soup had a bit of spice and sweetness which was good.
The decor is really unique and cool. For the cheap prices and good food, it’s an overall good experience!
So very tasty! I was visiting with my friends from Vancouver and we stopped by for a meal. Super delicious bulgogi stir fry, spring rolls, and soup! I highly recommend this fun, delicious restaurant to anyone!:)
Ordered takeout. Spicy bulgogi had a lot of vegetables and meat with a good spice level. The kimchi bulgogi pizza (great idea) was very tasty, but there was limited toppings on it which was disappointing. Unfortunately, they use styrofoam containers for meal delivery
Name of the game at steel wheels is consistency. Friendly service, quality of food, and atmosphere are always present and never lacking. Your experience past that is most likely dependent on the people around you and your attitude. For that reason I give this place 5 stars and my continued business.
A true Gem of Edmonton. Go for the Bulgogi pizza at 2AM, and come back for the authentic Korean dishes (the stir fried squid on rice is to die for). For entertainment you're surrounded by graffiti ranging from sad to comical and funny to rude and crude and from floor to ceiling. Bring your sharpies and add to the art.
This is a typical after party stop so show up early if you want quiet eats. And come late if you're looking for some fun.
This has been a staple of the Whyte Ave community for a long time and hope it will continue forever. Management has done a great job the last couple years cleaning and updating a little bit. They even take debit now!
Love love love this place, great place for a quick savoury dinner. My partner and I love the bulgogi and chicken meal. Always made fresh and the owner is super friendly! Also great for late night cravings as they are open late. Definitely would recommend trying this place out if you haven’t!
Steel Wheels is an Edmonton institution. If you haven't ended up here at some point in your life, you're hanging out with the wrong people- get better friends. Just saw Steel Wheels is on Uber Eats. I don't leave my house anymore, so this is an absolute game changer. Bulgogi Meal beef spicy is life. Bulgogi Meal beef spicy is love. Bulgogi Meal beef spicy pairs well with a second order of Bulgogi Meal beef spicy. For dessert, I usually have Bulgogi Meal beef spicy. Staff/owners are awesome too.
This place is a hidden gem, I use to come here on drunken nights off Whyte for pizza and then since being with my partner I come here often and love it the service is always amazing and food is great as well I love the bulgogi pizza and rice dish every time I eat here
The food is great. I usually get the budae Ji gae soup, and in my opinion as someone who's gone to South Korea before for travelling it is the closest budae Ji gae soup in Edmonton to match South Korea's. Their pizza is also great! The interior has their own appeal of customers/patrons customizing it with their own artistic sense and it is interesting to just take a moment and look at all different kinds of humor and perspectives of art. Would highly recommend checking steel wheels out if you haven't.
Pizza has an awesome crust, very unique, and the cheese is fantastic. This place has mad history in Edmonton, and though I heard the original owner has since moved back to his home country, the management and staff are running it right, doing great renovations and keeping the food as good as I remember. I look forward to going back!
Prefacing with the fact that I’ve been a regular customer here since 2014. There has been many memories made here with friends over the years since it’s normally open so late (modified hours with Covid at this point in time) and located near Whyte ave.
My favourite thing to order here is the Kimchi Stew and Beef bulgogi meal made extra spicy. I’ve tried a lot of the menu but I always end up returning to these. There is “objectively” better Korean food places in Edmonton, but I think this place has the best bang for your buck if you’re looking to focus on spending quality time with a friend/date.
Customer service is always 10/10 here for me. Always greeted warmly by the family working here, and the very rare time I was unhappy with something, it was fixed right away.
Overall- The eclectic atmosphere with graffiti, the warm customer service, and Korean food makes Steel Wheels the ideal place to spend with your friends on a budget, especially if you want to drink (pre-covid!).
Steel Wheels is a little hole in the wall with yummy late night snacks like bulgogi pizza, kimchi soup and green onion cakes. The bulgogi pizza has the softest crust and really great flavour - get two slices for $5 or devour the whole box for $18. The kimchi soup has a lot of meat in it, it’s not the best one I’ve had but still quite tasty! Overall, it’s the perfect hideaway when you get the munchies after a late night drinking away your sorrows or partying solo in your house since it’s COVID. Enjoy sitting in the grungy booths and entertain yourself with some of the explicit art on the walls. The owner is a gem and you can tell he cares about his customers. An Edmonton classic that must be visited!
I went today for the first time in months, Steel Wheels is cleaner than I've ever seen it, you can't hang out but the food is still how you remember it, if you've only had the pizza you're missing out.
I went there years ago and just returned recently. It hasn't changed. Both uncle and Aunty were still there cooking away Korean food. I always order Flavored Soju, grapes one. Popular at late night. Very unique decorate. Self serve for everything. CASH ONLY. There an ATM there that charge $1.25 to take out cash.
Been here quite a few times over the years. Love the graffiti and quaint surroundings after a night out on whyte. Kimchi jigae is a must and the bulgogi pizza is always a delight!
I'd like to think I understand its appeal to what seems like everyone who's ever spent a Friday/Saturday night out on Whyte ever, but I don't think I'm a fan.
As a Korean-Canadian who's also on a huge pizza bender right now, Steel Wheels' signature Bulgogi Pizza satiated neither my Korean nor pizza taste. The crust was doughy and tasted 'off' (is it whole wheat flour?), the kimchi was very bland, and the bulgogi was tough and gristled.
It wasn't bad by any means, and it seems like decent drunk food. For those who can appreciate it for what it is, all the power to you!
Great squid stir fry (I never eat squid just like that usually just calamari fried) but man it was so good and the pizza was good too I think what made everything so good was the freshness I have ibs had no problem digesting stuff, the stir fry is on the spicy side I was fine with it no probs what so ever!
An Edmonton late night food Instituition. The family that owns and runs the place are as nice as can be. Late night pizza and soju is always a great call.
Oh my god! This is a true hidden gem. Nobody knows about it, but it's open all night long, serves AMAZING fusion food and the walls! Damn. The walls are an artwork in themselves!
It's exactly what you wish it weren't. What can I say, this place is a must on every bar tour or weekend dive. It's where over and under meet and obliterate each other to create a sincere feeling of "just whelming. " When you go low, Steel Wheels lifts you higher - at the very least, the food will potentially improve your morning after. Besides the truly DIY deco, it's a decent Korean restaurant. Try the kimchi pizza (only full size). It will leave you with nothing left to wish for. Ever. Again.
Looking for a new pizza experience this popped up and had really good reviews. So tried it out. Alot of comments about Korean Beef Bulgogi pizza. If the only topping other than cheese is Bulgogi Beef, then there should be a generous portion of meat. Sadly, the meat was barely present. Thus, if this was an accurate presentation of this pizza truly over hyped and disappointing. The upside very cool decor / art on walls, ceiling
Was brought by my cousin and we loved the vide. Graffiti on the walls and lots of guest art around. Next time I was in the city we brought friends to eat here and it was a hit. The chicken meal is the go to.
Sam the owner is the kindest man and always makes me and my friends feel like home when we come here! Open til 3 am, this spot is perfect for late night comfort korean food and drinks at great prices the atmosphere is always chill One of my favourite spots in edmonton i always recommend everyone to come here for a night out with great eats
Best go-to food after a tiring night out from Whyte. Open till 3am (or later depending on the crowd) on the weekends. Atmosphere is not everyone's forte but something about the graffiti just gives this place a unique environment (in Edmonton). Can never go wrong with any of the food on the menu. Great service too.
Not a place I could've found myself, but it has a unique vibe – full of graffiti! The food is surprisingly delicious, and there's a bunch of soju flavors to choose from.
This place rules. Really great atmosphere, cheap food and drinks. The pizza is exactly what you want whether you are drunk or not. The guy at the counter probably
