We bought our first home with Stepper back in 2020 and I must say, the costumer service after we purchased was deplorable. Stepper Homes used a company that sold faulty flooring and did not notify their customers of this issue. Within the first year I noticed a bit of unevenness with our floors and when I told them about it in person, they blamed it on the weather. This winter we noticed the unevenness getting worse, and they came and assessed it and nonchalantly told us it’s faulty flooring…and we’ll have to deal with the flooring company directly as it’s no longer under warranty. We submitted a claim directly with the flooring company about 4 months ago and have not heard back. Now we’re left to replace the flooring on our 2 year old home. I regret buying with Stepper. They don’t care about their customers and their products are CHEAP.

Just so you’re aware, it looks like they have now partnered with Look Homes.

Stepper Homes… Needs to Step Up

Currently, the biggest ongoing issue that I am dealing with is my grading/landscaping. When you purchase a home with Stepper (in the community of Hudson at least), you are forced to pay $2500 into a bond at the time of purchase, and then you are required to do your landscaping (grass, 1 tree, 4 shrubs) within a year of the final grade certificate being issued. When I took possession of my home in January of 2021, it was the first duplex building to be built on this block, and the building beside me was the last to be built, they have not even completed grading yet. I raised this concern with Stepper in May 2021 as my time was running out. I explained that I could not complete my grading until final grading beside me was completed and the elevations were once again properly set. In response, Stepper granted me an extension to the end of 2021. Fast forward three months to now (August), and the grading next door is still not completed. I am very quickly running out of summer, running out of options for trees and shrubs, and running out of time to plant them and they have a decent chance of surviving through winter.
I am also not satisfied that the grading was properly completed when it was done initially, because I have had lots of settlement at both the front and rear of my property, caused by water pooling against my foundations. I’m sure anybody with even the slightest comprehension of how grading works could tell you that this is only going to happen if the ground is graded towards the house, rather than away. I previously had a large sinkhole at my back door, and more recently I have had more settlement, which has damaged my conduit to my garage, ripping the pipe out of the box. At the front, the ground is settling lower than my porch, and the ground underneath my front path has become a void. I have raised these concerns with Stepper, but they keep dismissing my concerns, telling me that this is just natural settlement, and is not their problem, but I can tell you with certainty that when you have water pooling against your house causing sinkholes, that is a grading problem.

My advice if you are considering building a home with Stepper: Don’t do it, find another builder. It seems that quality and customer care has slipped a lot since I purchased. Once they have your money, you no longer matter.

We built with stepper in 2015, we found out recently while getting the home inspected for sale that they didn't even finish the HRV install in our basement, the unit had actually been non functional for 7 years.steppers response? Oh well you should have noticed sooner. As far as I'm aware they aren't building residential homes anymore and the industry is the better for it, terrible company.

I bought my house in Creekstone 2 years ago, the exterior paint keeps coming off, they repainted it last year (only after multiple requests and emails). This year paint came off again. I had a request for re-paint sitting since September last year, because they had to come in and re-nail the exterior boards. Imagine the exterior coming off on a 2 year old house! Extremely challenging to get these guys to honor their warranty and the warranty representative I am talking to doesn't even try to give you a half decent excuse. I think I am a great bother to him with my warranty issues. "At Stepper Homes, we believe that great customer care is just as important as getting your home fixed right, the first time. " - I mean this is a complete misrepresentation. I regret buying home with them and not surprised they are going out of business.

I am writing to you today to compliment your company for your wonderful Warranty Services Manager, Matthew George. Last week, he did much needed work around our house, fixing the squawking staircase. Despite the many distractions occurring at the work location, Matthew focused so completely on his job that he surprisingly finished within his specified time frame.
Matthew is such a knowledgeable and professional representative for your company. We were pleasantly surprised at his friendly demeanor and thoughtful attitude. We were all impressed with his abilities, commitment and skills in completing this job.

Stepper makes a lot of promises when you're about to move in and there's a lot of deficiencies. They say they'll fix and take care of everything. You give them the check and they're gone. You call and call, email and email. Promises, no shows are common. Stalling tactics til your year warranty is done then they really ghost you. Our basement floor is beyond cracked and needs to be replaced, 7 windows don't close, fireplace stone is coming apart, put the washer and dryer upstairs instead of down, didn't insulate a outside wall, grading wasn't finished, outside trim is terrible work, flooring is separating, the list goes on. Don't ever pay them in full until all fixes are made! MG trys to get you to believe it's all normal and accept their terrible work. Since Rudy's been gone this company has been circling the drain.

Wonderful company that actually cares about the quality of their work, and customer service. We live in a community with Trico and Stepper homes. We bought a Stepper Home and have been so impressed with their staff- they go above and beyond to help with any issues. Remi, John and Mathew have all been wonderful. In contrast, we had to contact Trico several times, after their builders destroyed our lawn and soil grade while building the home next to us, and it was nothing but unanswered messages, excuses and being ignored. It took over 6 weeks to get the issues fixed, finally with the help of Stepper! Our neighbours who bought with Trico report nothing but issues. In a buyers market with tons of choices, Id recommend Stepper in a heart beat.
