I came to the hospital because I suffered an extremely painful knee injury while playing basketball. I spoke to the front desk and they told me to wait in a line to see one of the front nurses. She basically just got my information and gave me an ice pack and told me to sit and just wait to be called. I came at 6pm and saw people who came after me who didn’t look like they were in serious pain or anything go ahead of me. Went to the front dest at 10pm to ask how long the wait time would be and she said that I had been waiting the longest and that only a couple of people were ahead of me. I ended up getting a bed at 11: 30pm. After a while, I started feeling pain in my knee to the point I needed medication so I asked my girlfriend to go find the nurse. The nurse who most of the time are just sitting around told her that they were busy and that they would get to me when they can. I waited 1 hour to get Tylenol. I didn’t end up seeing the doctor until 2: 15pm. He saw me for a couple of mins and then said I need an x-ray and left. Then I was stuck waiting some more to get a damn x-Ray. Overall the worst hospital possible. They say that people are admitted based off of the acuity of their injury but that’s a lie. I was waiting inexhaustibly long. The nurses don’t care either. The nurses here don’t care about their job, and the sure don’t care about what you’re going through. This one nurse was asking me some questions and asked if I smoked and I told her no and then she proceeded to ask me again if I smoked. Clearly stereotyping me because I’m black. Don’t no go to this hospital. Absolutely the worst.

This hospital is just another reason why Sherwood Park is the worst place to live in the world.
03 June 2023 0:43
Worst hospital ever 5 hours wait time. This is ridiculous. Don’t care about how the person is or been waiting for so long.
26 May 2023 14:21
The mental health department is a joke. Debbie the receptionist thinks she’s a fantastic actress…should probably just stick to your day job and actually do it
13 May 2023 8:56
Brought my 80year old mother in at 1pm April 18th, finally got a bed at just after 6pm. It is now 9: 40pm and we still haven't talked to a doctor. This is ridiculous!

My wife had to come to treat a broken wrist and the staff were amazing. They were kind and understanding and we really appreciated all of their care. We are very thankful, we have this hospital in our community.

Came here with abdominal pain about a month ago, after waiting for 5 hours i got in i was met by a friendly nurse and an ignorant nurse practitioner, and ER doctor, after explaining what was wrong the doctor seemed irritated that i was there and told me “unless im vomiting, and or defecting blood i shouldn't come back, 1 month later i went to the Leduc hospital with worse pain, explained to the doctor what my symptoms were, was given actual tests and was discovered that i had a stomach disease.doctors like the two I encountered here shouldn’t be doctors, if you dont want to do your job leave, our healthcare system is bad enough.

Have had to use this hospital on a few different occasions now and I've had positive experience every time. Always friendly staff and have been happy with treatments received each time we've been there.
12 March 2023 20:47
Was there 6 hrs before they even put IV in.slow service.nurses looking at phones, talking behind patients backs.won't go back.

I brought my toddler into the emergency due to asthma, we were greeted warmly by the peace officer working, everyone had smiles on their face and treated us with genuine warmth and care.
The triage nurse made my son feel so comfortable and we were soon given stickers, colouring papers & crayons by the peace officer.
My son ended up getting sick while we were waiting and within a minute we received warm clothes to clean his face and clothes! Once in emergency the nurses were so kind, chatted with us and explained the processes thoroughly. They offered us water, popsicles (for my son) and even a teddy bear. I am blow away at the over and beyond measures the hospital staff took to make us feel comfortable in a stressful setting. The doctors were extremely professional and continuously checked in on us, even just to pop their head in to check quickly while walking by.
Thank you for taking care of my son and making the process comfortable for him.

There are no options for immunocompromised or high risk individuals to be treated safely. They do not allow you to wait in your car and they do not have the room to space individuals 6 feet apart from each other, meanwhile sick people everywhere. It is a nightmare for compromised individuals: (
They do not tell you during tirage or at any other step if they do not provide the specific procedure that you are looking for. Even when you make it clear that standard procedures have made your condition worse and you describe other treatment options that you know exist, they will nod their head and admit you to the hospital. Meanwhile they do not offer that service. But you were never told that. You wait 6+ hours for good hospital treatment just to meet a doctor who tells you that to clear out a blockage from your ear cannal they are going to spray water in it (exactly what I specified them not to do). I expected the hospital to have better technology than a water bottle with a nozzle attached. No microsuction? No mechanical removal? What a joke of a hospital. So the water gets put in my ear and they fail to remove the blockage. What a surprise. Who would have guessed that it wouldn't work? The next day my ear is even worse. This is a glorified walk-in centre.

If you don't have the technology or offer services that people specifically ask for then TELL THEM. Communicate that you do not offer the services so that I don't wait there all day for a procedure that I made clear I did not want, and in the end made my condition worse.

Triage staff was nice.

Doctor was nice.

Security guards were nice.

The nurse who treated me was the rudest person I have encountered in a long time. She should not be working there. Almost made me cry because how mad she got at me because I'm a complex patient and have an extensive medical history, which she didn't even take down correctly or get my medications right. She even told me after the doctor saw me that I could leave (when I didn't have the prescription in my hands), so I waited for the doctor to hopefully come back anyways which he thankfully did. She failed in bedside manner and every aspect of her job when treating me.

Worst hospital in edmonton area, and I thought leduc was bad. Resident doctors Singh and whats her face don't have the slightest clue what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and go to a walk in and get a requisition instead of wasting 6 hours of your time and tax dollars on this place.

86yr old Mom had trouble getting seen at FSCH - came to Strathcona ER - VERY CONSIDERATE TEAM - was seen after a moderate wait time - Ortho Tech Heather did a most professional and kind job of the cast mom needed. Dr Stadnick and his team were very professional, kind and reassuring to the patient after her bad fall.

Best hospital in Edmonton.

Lovely staff here! I’ve had poor experiences in the past at the UVA Hospital and at the Stollery. The staff at the UVA Hospital & Stollery have been incredibly dismissive and disrespectful towards me. They minimize and dismiss my concerns. The staff at Strathcona Community Hospital are completely the opposite. They treat you with respect, and make you feel like your feelings and concerns are valid. Staff are caring and kind here!

The lights in the emergency waiting room are not fluorescent and are dimmed, which I greatly appreciate because it accommodates for my sensory needs and light sensitivity!

Wait time in the emergency isn’t as long compared to other hospitals in Edmonton, which is great! Environment and restrooms were well maintained, and sterile.

Overall, a wonderful hospital in Edmonton. Kudos to all the staff at Strathcona Hospital!
14 October 2022 23:54
I waited 5 hours when they took everyone else who came if after me before me. It was a hour wait when I got there. And I wasn’t the only one there were doing that to. I could t stop puking and they left me. Terrible staff imo. The young blonde in the front is not friendly at all either. Rude staff. Been treated better at the royal elax and that says something
17 September 2022 14:58
They are busier then they used to be, but I'd still prefer going here then other hospitals I've been to. Only a couple bad experiences but I'd say that was them having an off day cause 8/10 they are great.
12 September 2022 23:36
Terrible triause nurses waited over an hour just go get my name in the list and they believed my illness was f important enough waited over 5 hours as they took everyone who came in after me as I was puking the whole time.
26 August 2022 17:50
This place is terrible if you need help your better off going back home stabbing yourself and calling 911 to take you to a real hospital.
24 August 2022 6:57
Probably my favourite hospital to go for when I have issues. Dr. Mailo is amazing and same with Dr. Muskat. Wait times aren’t as long as other hospitals. It’s a very clean hospital and the nurses are always friendly.
18 August 2022 3:36
My husband was brought there by ambulance from Edmonton he had stage 4 cancer he was 50 nurses to busy he laid on the floor in waiting room for 3 hours with a green sleeve on his chest how dare you treat my husband like that
16 August 2022 23:54
Cut part of my finger off making salad (as one does) and the nice nurse practitioner froze me up and got everything closed up nicely. Dr. Milo (sp?) also complimented the clean cut I made to myself and they had me on my way quickly. 5/5 would cut digits off again, very nice hospital and kind staff.
11 August 2022 4:52
I'm diabetic and went here today to get diagnosed for an issue I was having with my eye. I was here for an absolutely ridiculous amount of time.approximately 8 hours from 12: 15pm to 8: 15pm. I spent 5 hours in the green waiting area and 3 in the patient room. While in the waiting area I couldn't even leave to grab food.they said I'd lose my spot if I left.

At 6: 45pm while I was in the patient room I left and went up to a Nurse to ask if I could have something to eat because I was diabetic and feeling nautious. She was kind enough to get me some toast, peanut butter and water which is why I'm giving this place 2 stars.

Having to wait 8 hours is a complete joke when we're supposed to have one of the best health care systems in the world. Where is our money going?

This is probably the worst emergency and hospital I've been to in my life. Some of the staff here are good while others really need to show some compassion and work on their people skills.

Was in last night for severe spinal pain with occasional numbness in my legs and feet. After waiting four hours in waiting (at an 8/10 for pain) I finally got into the ER itself. Waited another four hours to be told I was getting a bladder scan. I asked for what and what the plan for me was and was never given any answers. Never had a doctor come and talk to me. Nothing. So I left, called my family doctor this morning and she gave me an MRI referral for this week. But the staff is very friendly and the hospital is very clean.
16 July 2022 7:01
No one ever wants to go to the hospital yet on Canada Day. Want to say the staff and care was outstanding would surely go back if we need to. Wait time seemed pretty reasonable with a full waiting room. The doctor was excellent. Sorry I forgot his name. Very happy with our experience.
13 July 2022 16:11
Never going to this hospital again. Reached here at 10: 30pm and had to wait for around 4 hours in the waiting room. When they called me inside, the nurse attending me was extremely rude. Asked her for an extra blanket because i was shivering, just to see her annoyed. She showed me the hand in a rude way and told me to wait. Her name tag read ‘SHINY’. She tried putting IV needle in my hand for four times and could not do it. Blamed the lightning in the room. She was going to poke the needle in my hand again until I started shivering with pain real bad. Then she finally decided to put the needle in my arm. Unprofessional staff. Would not recommend this hospital.

Unfortunately had to make 2 trips to this hospital in the last year but I am so fortunate that it is my closest one. Such kind and compassionate staff. So helpful and there with a kind word and reassurance. Great at their jobs from bedside manner to treatment. I will not go to another emergency room in the city if I can help it.
27 July 2021 23:52
Had a horrible experience, came in with 2nd degree burn and I have darker skin, every doctor/nurse told me I was “fine” and to put polysporin on it and that it wouldn’t scar or get worse, the nurse put the sticky part of the Bandage RIGHT ON my burns and as soon as I got home it got 10x worst, the bandage ripped open my blister and I have so much scaring it’s crazy. IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOUR I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING THERE. THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE WITH DARKER SKIN.
20 July 2021 23:20
Hands down the best hospital I have ever been to the staff was very attentive had excellent communication and care. All doctors and nurses were also very friendly.
I was able to get right in and feel more than comfortable in my room then got a full explanation of everything that was done and what to do next.
Thank you all nursed and doctors.
25 June 2021 11:21
I've had 2 horrible experiences here.honestly, if you can go somewhere else, do it. Although it's convenient because it's close, it's just not worth the headache. Stay away!
08 June 2021 14:51
I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to all the nurses and doctors (Dr. Sarah R.) who work here. They made sure that every thing is okay before they discharge me. This was my second emergency visit here and all the staff were friendly and very professional. Yes, there was a long wait which I truly understand as patients are being triage by the nurses depending on the urgency. I witnessed some patients being rude to nurses due to long wait which I hope they should not do. We are all in pain, that's the reason why we are there. We should be thankful because every day they come to work and risk their lives to see and attend patients' concerns specially this pandemic.
27 April 2021 21:14
The front staff and nurse was very nice. But the Doctors were no help and took 4 hours. Left there went to Fort Saskatchewan where they treated you like a person.
23 April 2021 4:31
I have been reluctant to post a neg.review since I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Since the facility opened my family has had occasion to use their Emerg. Dept.a total of 4 times. I can say without reservation that despite the "estimated wait time" posted on the AHS website the actual time was many multiples of that. In addition the end result was always unsatisfactory - either by not being thorough enough or missing the issue entirely. Each visit was then followed by another visit to a different Emerg Dept of a different hospital. Even one nurse who work here commented that we were better off going to a "real hospital" in the city. Save yourself the aggravation and time and just go to one of the other hospitals instead.
17 April 2021 22:47
It was very good experience as all the staff were experienced and cheerful!
Neat and clean, time management,
10/10 as I felt truly satisfied with my visit at this hospital.
27 March 2021 9:18
I just had CT scan here.amazing people in that department.they treat patients like kings.especially the guy that welcomed me and at 11: 30 am and took me to the door when i finished and he said " you're a good patient today" i would like to say you are a good Healthcare worker too.sorry i forgot the name
18 March 2021 4:19
A really good hospital, super nice, but can not do anything major, since Sherwood Park is considered a hamlet we do not get full benefits and if you need something more intense than this hospital can handle you will be sent to Edmonton, but if you broke your arm or did some minor injury or need immediate attention this hospital should do the trick, but they do make you dispose your mask for there mask even if they have higher protection
12 March 2021 11:46
I have been in this hospital twice. What I love and like about it it’s the care of the inside stuff! Once you go beyond the barrier! You will experience the essence of professionalism! The thoughts part is to go in! No matter what you go for, and no matter the colour of your skin or gender; the front stuff will always have unfavourable comment! They will also make sure that you heard that! I guess it’s the part of the game! Peoples lives and well being it’s not a game! I do understand that you are bored, maybe you should work shorter hours or attend other venues! I don’t know? But making fun of people should not be your daily entertainment, especially when you are making sure they can hear you! Are you making bets how many will report you? Not funny!
18 February 2021 21:14
Hospital masks are ineffective personal protection against aerosol virus like covid. I am forced to discard my professional P100 mask and wear "downgraded" hospital mask, or be ejected from the hospital.

Ask any health professional, which one they would choose to wear for a full day seated in a tuberculosis ward.
01 February 2021 5:01
Rude nurse working emerg desk. Was told I'd need xrays, I asked about how long it would be cause I was curious if I should call off my upcoming shift, to which the doctor said "you're REALLLY complaining about wait times right now? " And i said, "no, I'm asking? " To which she stared at me like I had just told her I was from Mars.not to mention, a lady being checked in ADMITTED to having tested positive for covid AND having been in contact with a probable case and never being retested, and they let her sit with everyone else in the emergency room.
29 January 2021 9:31
Wait time is long. Don't be afraid to pop out of your triage room to "use the bathroom" and conveniently ask how long it usually takes for wait times, if you need urgent care or are in severe pain. Doctors seem to know their stuff. Got me the right medication and indirectly suggested I find a better family doctor, confirming my suspicions about negligence.
Doctor was very efficient and seemed to have compassion. Something we desperately need more of in our healthcare system.
06 December 2020 23:57
Most unprofessional staff who show 0 compassion for concerned family members during uncertain times. I could go on about so much more, but what's the point. Everyone knows this place is terrible and shouldn't even be considered a hospital.
29 October 2020 19:58
Horrible wait times with doctors and nurses that don't care, you could literally be dying or ready to pass out from the pain without a single care or thought given
05 January 2020 18:11
Me and my friend went her just to get her ear looked at it took 2 hours just to go into the room. She told us to go to another room and someone will be with us shortly three hours later we get in. The person we were waiting with hasn't even seen a doctor in the span of three hour this is ridiculous.
05 January 2020 1:48
Nothing special about triage. Same kind of waiting your expect from any other ER. I can only praise the therapists. Visited me in the ER in a timely manner. Caring, informed and by no means, "Just doing there job". They get 5 stars. As for the ER and triage. 1!
22 December 2019 2:00
I came into the hospital for a serious injury and was brought into the back after about 2 hours of waiting. That was fine. It was expected, however from there i was brought into a room and then a nurse checked the issue and notified me a doctor would see me soon. Then i was moved to another room with multiple other patients and waited there for 2 hours. During my experience here i saw multiple people leave in frustration and anger. The only thing that was good about my experience was free parking. I was not happy with my experience.
07 December 2019 13:51
I never feel so helpless when we were in this hospital.my daughter had so much pain in her abdomen (found out it was life threatening disease later). She got no empathy, no kindness, no care.
05 December 2019 21:06
I’ve been to this Emergency Room twice in the past two years and both times I got exceptional care from the EMTs, nurses, doctors, and specialists involved in my care. From quick service to politeness, I received it all. It wasn’t an in and out situation but I wasn’t waiting hours on end for every department I needed to be seen by. The facility was quiet, calm, and clean. A very good hospital for me. If I ever need to go back to hospital, I would want to be taken here again. Thank you to everyone that took such good care of me.
07 November 2019 12:05
They were so good to me.it must be tough to be nice to every grumpy sick person so I commend them on great bedside manner
28 October 2019 4:02
My last CT scan at a different hospital last year was not the greatest. Staff were not very friendly, just cordial but I guess in an ER you get a lot of unhappy people coming in so I gave them a pass. After the CT however, I needed help to sit up as I have a hernia and didn't want it to pop out. They made a big deal out of it which made me feel awful and didn't help my anxiety. Now almost a year later and booked for another CT scan, this time in Sherwood Park, what a difference a hospital makes! I was super anxious it was going to be a similar experience but I need not have worried. STRATHCONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL TOTALLY ROCKS! The hospital is very clean and right from admissions, to the lab and then to diagnostic imaging, it was an awesome experience. ALL the staff are super friendly so it made me less anxious and it felt like my care was of the utmost importance to them. I was treated extremely well.
The individual who did my IV definitely knows how to do his job. He was the BEST EVER! I have deep veins so I know how hard it is to do the IV's but he managed to get it on the first try. Then after my scan, this same individual asked me, before I could even say anything, if I needed help sitting up and actually waited after to make sure I could stand up okay. If I ever have any kind of tests, etc.that can be done at this hospital, I will definitely be requesting it - hands down. WELL DONE STRATHCONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL:)
