The food is really good, very tasty and well presented. Very pleasant atmosphere and nicely decorated. Everything looks clean and in the right place. Good service and price affordable. The location is really convenient, just in downtown Calgary.
Weird combo Italian and Sushi restaurant now. The sushi menu is minimal compared to the italian food. We ordered tempura (which was great), salmon sashimi (that was oddly wet) and spicy tuna roll that had obviously canned tuna in it was a gross spicy sauce on top. Not worth $45.
We wanted to support local but the quality was not great and the food took quite awhile even for sushi. We wouldn't eat here again. The food wasn't very fresh and the sushi rice was mushy. The owners were really nice and the service was good.
Went here last sunday with my husband and my son, it takes forever to have the orders. The glass of water is dirty. I think they dont even dry them before storing in the shelves or cabinet. Not happy with the food at all. Waisting of time and money!
Excellent service, good prices, delicious food. The place is also clean, and quiet on a Saturday night. My family really enjoyed our night out at Sumos.
Literally some of the worst food I have had in a long time. Don't waste your money here. They also messed up my order so they can't even do a simple task.
Great fresh sushi.honestly I eat alot of sushi and I was able to taste everything inside and fresh veggies and ginger. Great tasting and also friendly staff
I've been to this place for dine and for take outs too and never once had any problems, and it makes me curious why there people acting like clowns while talking about the owners or whatever, people who work there are extremely nice to me always.
Wish there was a zero here! Rude and disrespectful owners! No respect for senior looking for help - shame on you! Never going back, not promoting this guys business. Will make sure no one in family nor friends’ circle support this business no matter how local!
I'm glad these guys are my neighbourhood sushi place! A local family business they run off their feet. Get the sushi platter for two ($50) and you'll have MORE than enough to eat (we've only finished it completely once!).
Food was not very good, shrimp was a little hard and rubbery, tempura in my roll seemed stale and for the price it was not worth it, which is really to bad as it has a great location.
Super bland rolls, very slow service. They bring one thing out and make you wait so long in between. Extremely expensive for what it is. If it was amazing the price would be fair, but it's only slightly better than grocery store quality.
It was a blustery night outside, and the waitress recommended a nice warm sake, which we truly enjoyed. We had a platter of the sashimi and sushi, and they good. Nicely presented, and the wasabi very nice. There was nothing outstanding here, but we really did enjoy the meal and the service. The decor is wonderful, and the place is very clean. One minor item that we didn't care for was the blaring TV. They had it on a news channel, and it just didn't add to the ambience. It was a little pricey, and so the value is not huge, but we were staying nearby and didn't want to walk all to far.
Excellent food. We had pork katsu and sashimi salmon rolls, beef and tempura prawns. Beautiful food. Wonderful taste! We had a Grupon discount and it made the meal even more affordable!
I like the sushi rolls here and the service has been quite good. Seems a little quiet at times but doesn’t take away from the quality. I’d recommend it.
The service is unbelievably slow and just poor in general. Food is fine but when it takes an hour to get your food at lunch time when there is literally two tables seated in the restaurant it is a bit ridiculous
Went on a Saturday night. Was slow to be greeted but ended up being served before a table that was sitting down before us. Ordered seperate dishes but there was a long gap between them. Only one sushi chef.
They were swamped with social west attendees but still managed to deliver amazing service, delicious food, and in just the right amount of time! Other venues were packed but this one had lots of room on the patio and bar!
There’s a reason one star is the most common review. Overpriced mediocre quality food that you will wait for several hours for. While we were there we watched 4 groups get up and leave because they hadn’t gotten beverages yet, and watched a skip the dishes guy skip out on Sumo for taking so long.
Save yourself the hassle, go to Save-On or Superstore instead for better quality, service, and price.
We had the Sukiyaki beef, Chicken Katsu, Unagi Don, and Chirashi Don. The portion size was filling. The price was reasonable. The environment was relaxed, comfortable, and not overly crowded. It’s a great place to grab a bite with some colleagues.
Very nice restaurant - went there on Friday night around 7pm, it was surprisingly empty, just with a few other people there, but the service was very quick and friendly, we both enjoyed out meals that were delicious, I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area.
I've been living in Japan for 12 years now, and I came back to visit my parents in February. I'm a Japanese food enthusiast, so I decided to try Sumo Lounge in Eau Claire Market. After my experience there if you were to compare Japanese sushi in Japan with the ones at Sumo Lounge there would be no difference! Sumo's sushi is very authentic to the Japanese cuisine and all the sashimi and rolls that I had were so fresh! The next time that I visit Calgary, I will bring all my Japanese friends there, that is how good it was!
