Super 8 by Wyndham Calgary Shawnessy Area

Very very poor customer service at front desk. Lady did not want to do her job and gave us strange looks. We overpaid for a room that was half the quality of other nearby hotels. Made a big mistake with this one

Stayed for 1 noght the price was $210 plus damage deposit that painfully is not refunded. Room was in decent enough condition however there was only 1 hand soap for the room. Doors were not in the best condition. The tub looked like it needed some repair.
Location was good bit all in all it was not worth the price I paid to stay here

Fantastic Hotel for a holiday. Great location and accessible to all amenities including the CTrain.
Complete value for money. Breakfast is pretty mediocre. So they can work on either improving it or taking it off completely and adjusting the room price accordingly.

Lots of amenities nearby. Really clean and quite nice actually. The area isn't the best but I doubt you'll find much better in this city without paying an arm and a leg.

This is our perfect place to stay while visiting family in Calgary. They offer a free hot breakfast, water slide c/w hot tub, fitness room and lots of parking. Located nice and close to lots of shopping and restaurant options. Rooms are always nice and clean and staff is very friendly.

Maxie and Parmjit went out of there way to make my stay comfortable and special. Breakfast was amazing and my room was quiet and super comfortable.

Even better the second night!

The place was quite nice but really need and overall improvement like they need to really show there sign as newly renovated, its quite a bit dark and shallow with the inside facility but still was a nice experience

It was a nice stay in the hotel. All our needs are met.staffs are friendly and helpful. Want to mention Parmjit who is very friendly and making sure buffet is filled up everytime.talking to guest asking about the stay. I would like to mention Maxie who is also friendly. Ellen who helped us in checking in and making sure that our needs are met specially we have also a baby. She even offers playpen for the baby on our stay. Thank you to you wonderful service.

Staff were very friendly. Room was clean. Location was great for us. Quiet even though we were beside a Walmart. Very small breakfast area and limited selection of food. But otherwise had a great 2 night stay

Clean. Wifi works, if you're having trouble connecting, restart your device. The water slide is fabulous. Thank you

We loved the Super 8 hotel, because the hotel is close to stores and transport system.the staff are very wonderful people with excellent customer service, we had a great time staying here.

Parmjit at breakfast gave our toddler a pack of pencil crayons and a colouring book. And Lucille who cleaned our room was so kind. Great staff. Good breakfast. The hot tub, pool and water slide looked like so much fun.

Hotel was very welcoming and clean, and the continental breakfast was amazing. We will definitely be staying here again.

First we start with the good things: Good location, pool with slide and mostly nice staff.
Not so good: rooms are not really clean and not well renovated. Had lots of hair in room entrance and also quite a bit of dirt on carpet. Also toil w coming off, my child almost fell off the seat and hit her head. One plug was missing cover and was open so you could see the wires. Dirty lamp with brown stuff on cover. Room in general is ok if your vision is not 100% but on a closer look it’s a little „yucky“. Also when went in hot tub with my kids I realized a very unpleasant smell from the water. I let the employee know but hot tub was still open the whole night. Next morning I saw a guy closing the tub and fixing something in the pool maintenance room. Not sure what happens but was definitely disgusted. By the way, 1 day later all my kids were sick. Not saying that it’s from the pool but after the smell and the pool closure a little suspicious. I would post pictures if I could but unfortunately not possible. Would expect a little better quality for almost $200 a night but I guess that’s what you get here. Would rather spent an extra $50 per night next time and go to a cleaner and nicer place.

If your looking for a hotel that offers a complimentary breakfast with a slide or pool, please look elsewhere. All the hot breakfast items such as pancakes, waffles and eggs are all microwaved and are either hard or taste like rubber. The hotel is in a great part of Calgary, but it is hard to find the entrance to. If your ok with barking dogs at 11 p.m. And other guests jumping off the top of the water slide while you are just trying to relax in the pool then this may be the hotel for you, but if not, for the price per night you will definitely be able to find a much better hotel that doesn’t offer a microwaved breakfast and has a pool. If you want the slowest internet in the world then I think I’ve finally found it. Would we stay here again? No.

Generally a rip off for charging $250/nite during stampede. Wifi is unsecured and need to constantly re-register or you'll be using your own data. Had to ask for room service staying there for 2 weeks. Towel rack was busted and they kept calling me just to tell me that. Like what do you want me to do about it, just fix it. Avoid.

We booked the Super8 Room or my sons 5th birthday and it was amazing. The room is PERFECT for a kids birthday party, equipped with an arcade (!) And lots of Board games, really cool decor. My son invited a bunch of friends to come swimming, and they enjoyed it to the fullest. The best part, the staff. Ellen was just so great and accommodating. She checked on us and made sure everything was going well. I would 100 percent recommend this hotel for anyone either for a birthday party, or to book the Super8 room for a special occasion (for kids). It had bunk beds so my son had 1 friend stay over with him. He enjoyed every minute of it. Clean, organized, great staff, and the room was super special!

Overall, better than most Super 8 hotels i have stayed at. Clean, modern decor, breakfast was good. Typical Super 8 selection, all was fresh. The staff go out of their way to accommodate. Very helpful and friendly.

Terrible stay. Our plug in short circuited and sent sparks flying across our room, my curling iron cord severed in 1/2. When we spoke to management they said they would sent a maintenance man to look at it; they didn’t ask what room or what plug in. Just offered lip service. They also had uncomfortable beds and oversized pillows. Very disappointed with our stay.

Went there and very poor service from the staff, not very nice to people, double charged my credit card when I stayed 1 night, very expensive rooms when they say it's cheaper then anything around (Which it's not) they say its not smoking building but you can smell cigarette smoke and pot in the halls, their breakfast is very cheap and gross and that's not even about the room.

With the room, it wad Dirty and didn't look like it got wiped down, sheets were discolored and shows stains on the everything white for linen, bathroom walls were yellow and stained, bathroom smelled of cigarette smoke, mini fridge didn't work, air conditioning machine that also gives heat didn't work.

Pool water was super cold and no heat to it at all, hot tub was not working.

Very poor business and was better before they sold it to this new owner which seems not to care how her staff treats people and how clean the building is.

I'd give 0 stars but I can't. I'll go to the other hotels in the area next time and spend my money there.

What's with the 73 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible out front, Stampede Parade car. Practically a vintage old girl. Loved it.

Excellent cost benefit. I don’t get the negative reviews, Super 8 is a no frills brand. Yet you have free breakfast, free coffee all day, free ice cream bar, a pool with a slide and a hot tub and the most wonderful staff. Special kudos to Paramjit at the breakfast room!

Check in was easy. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff extremely helpful!

The worst experience in staying in a hotel.
I’ve traveled on the road from PEI to Vancouver with my family before and I travel between Edmonton and Calgary often due to business, and this was by far the worst experience.

The paper cups were wet and moldy, the shower was too weak and took time to warm up, the ice machine was broken, and at the time of checking out they did not even ask which method of payment I prefer and went ahead and charged my credit card (this one was the worst, because I don’t like irregular charges on my credit card other than bills and etc, I usually pay hotel fees with debit or cash).

I won’t be staying here ever again.

No heat to either room in the middle of December. Arrived really late at night so asked if we could not be disturbed until checkout just to be woke up at 8am. Not that we slept very good anyways since the room was freezing cold. Not the quietest rooms either, sounds like there is a racetrack on the street next to it as well. Will never stay here again.

Clean and quiet.staff are friendly and helpful. I found the beds to be comfy.located near to grocery stores if you want some food.

All Staff are nice and friend. The location is good and safe. Lot's of Parking space. Although our stay from Sept 6 to 23,2021 was a bit disappointing as the jacuzzi spa tub was not working.

I'll be generous and would give this Super 8 hotel a 2 star.

The Good: Clean towels and bedsheets. Comfortable. Breakfast is alright.

The Bad: The washroom wasn't cleaned properly. My friend also noticed stains on the toilet seat. Disgusting! They probably used the toilet brush for the toilet seat as well when cleaning. LOL.

Don't fall for the low price. My room stank of mildew and cigarettes. The front desk staff were unhelpful when I had a problem with my booking. The breakfast was terrible (Egg Protein Supplement #12, microwaved) and was managed by the front desk staff, meaning it was constantly out. I watched one woman wait 30 minutes for her breakfast. It's obvious the staff have been instructed to only put out "just enough" to keep costs low. Who puts yogurt in the fridge 6 at a time? And I can confirm from the other reviews, little to no covid protocol. This kind of stuff is driven by management policy. Stay away.

The room was clean and air conditioned, the breakfast was good. Unfortunately the ice machine and the coffee machine weren’t working and the pool and hot tub were way colder than expected. The water slide was broken which is why we booked the stay. Just ok.

I would never stay at this location again. The continental breakfast-no coffee ready, no coffee cups even available, the person working the first morning didn’t know how to make the juice-yogurts were gone 2 mornings before 9: 00 am.
The room had 2 coffee packs although no cups, creamers or sugars, electrical plugs in the room were so loose that using them was next to impossible. The very worst is we were there for 3 nights, after 2nd night I called down to see why our room wasn’t cleaned only to be told “if you want your room cleaned you need to let us know in the morning”! They brought us up fresh towels but wouldn’t take the full garbages.

I went to the frontdesk to check in, the guy is sitting and his feet is up. Very unprofessional. The worst is the GM is very unprofessional too! Wonder his staff is like that! Entered the room, found a dirty bed sheet, you can see the dirt stain in the sheet.good thing the other bed is clean. I’m tired & wanted to rest so didn’t bother to call. Breakfast is ok, can be better. The pool you need to book ahead. If you can find any other hotel with the same rate, better try them.

Would of love to give 5 star. But a 99$ dollar room told was supposed to be 108$ all in. Check bank account they over charged. Taking 140.
The pillows were way too hard, blankets not soft. The pool water was so cold the hot tub. I've had hotter baths.

All in all this isn't one of the good super 8 in the city. Disappointing as my hubby and I have been loyal customers to many super 8 across AB and BC!

I would assume this is quite an old hotel. I am used to nicer places I guess. LOL When I come back next week I was thinking about staying at a different hotel but there are so many great places to get food really close that makes me mostly want to stay. I would give this a 2.5 out of five for stars
