Sushi BBQ Inn

Went here for my birthday this past Saturday, I have never been but on recommendations from others I choose to try it out.

The service wasn't great, we didn't have 1 set waiter/waitress. No one in my party had ever been and didn't know how it worked and because we didn't have waiter/waitress to explain when we sat down, we just went with the flow. I really wish it was explained to us so we had the chance to enjoy the experience a bit more. We also had to stop staff walking by to get drinks, refills, utensils, ect. We also didn't have proper utensils for handling and cooking raw meats on the grill so the cross contamination was a worry. We all know that you can't handle raw chicken then raw beef then raw pork with the same utensils then use the same utensils for the cooked product and to use to eat with.

I did like the all you can eat and the grill in the tables, all the food we choose was delicious and plated nicely but we didn't know what was what. It all came on plates together and of course there was 5 of us so trying to keep what was what straight was difficult so we just gave up and just ate whatever. It would of been nice to have the staff tell us what each was or even to have a waiter/waitress but we made the best of it.

Overall it was an okay experience and I will probably be back with a smaller group to really try it out.

Been here multiple times anytime we’re in Calgary. Food is amazing. Staff is amazing. Music is incredible!:)

Best all you can eat Sushil/KBBQ spot in Calgary. Food is excellent. Sashimi slices are huge! Rolls are also huge. KBBQ is on point. We sat in the area where the kitchen cooks your KBBQ for you. Haven't tried the "grill it yourself" part yet, but will definitely be back.
FYI - I've gone 2x in less than a week span.

It's ok. Food's alright but not fantastic. Service is okay too. The staff are nice but either forgot about our table, brought food to take away from us without saying anything, and half of our order was wrong.

I would’ve given this joint zero stars if I could.
I would just like someone to talk me through the rules of this place because it would’ve been nice to know that I CANT eat here with my friends if I don’t choose the all you can eat option? Would’ve been smart to include that piece of information on their website.
Only gave atmosphere 3 to be kind since we had no choice but to sit outside and watch our friends eat their meals. At least it wasn’t raining:/ overall never coming back

The experience is worth the trip, it's nice to have a grill right in front of you and laugh with friends while eating all you can eat and grilling up meat! Find the rice portions on rolls are a bit heavy but the Sashimi is fresh and delicious!

I told our server it's our first time to visit this place and he did even bother to introduce himself he just said just order.
The tuna sashimi I got is still frozen.
Needs improvement.

Visited from out of town. Unsure if they were unstaffed or what the issue was but service was very slow. Our table had to ask 3 times for our order to be taken and to be checked on as we were doing the Korean BBQ grill. There weren't many options but the sashimi was good. Would not return.

Good was amazing and well made, service was fantastic and over all it was a fantastic experience eating at this restaurant

Sushi BBQ Inn is kind of a run down establishment. The grills are hit or miss, but usually extremely bad, the tables and seats are also pretty sticky and ripped. On the topic of the food, it is average. The meat is what you'd expect from an AYCE KBBQ place (although Gogi's meat is better quality) and the sushi is normal. The tuna sashimi however was horrible the day we went, it almost made us puke, the texture and the taste was extremely bad. The service here is also sub par, staff aren't the nicest but aren't the meanest either. Overall, 3/5, not a bad place to go with your friends!

I went for a meal and parked my car under their Parking sign. Got out and there was a ticket. Went back to the restaurant. They took photos of the ticket and meal receipt and told me they would deal with it as this was “stupid “. Had to call the restaurant few times as kept receiving notice that I did not pay the ticket. Every time the restaurant said they would deal with it and don’t pay. Finally they again said they will call diamond parking and let me know. Never happened. They are not taking responsibility that they have sign of restaurant to park then got fine.be carful because neither the restaurant nor diamond parking taking responsibility even I have photos of where I parked.

Always a great time. Genuinely fun and good food. 33 dollars for all you can eat is fairly cheap compared to some other places

It's good compare to others but the thing is when they gets busy they stop serve you anymore

The service is so so.

The restaurant only has 2-3 servers bringing food and taking orders on a Friday night.so the service speed is not good.

After we are given a menu, 20 minutes later service comes to check on us. And then wait more than 20 minutes for food to come. Each subsequent round of orders is another 20-30 mins, making the all you can eat value, not really appealing since you are full faster with first round of food, and increasing the value for the restaurant to take advantage of customers.

Please hire more staff. Unless you are trying to save money on labor AND prevent customers from ordering more food to maximize your profits.

Otherwise the food and quality is good. But not recommended for roll sushi because they put too much rice in there and little bit topping on top. Eventually, the BBQ meat is really general do not expect too much.

Price is fair enough. ~ 80$ for 2 people (tax + tips 10%)

Every time I go here it’s amazing. I love the staff and the food is wonderful. I have been going to this sushi restaurant for almost 10 years. I absolutely love it.

Food was good land sushi was one of best in town. Service was not good. Out of 5 waiters, only one was willing to serve all customers. The others were hiding and trying to avoid eye contact. This resulted, delay in our orders, taking forever to clear the table and missing few of ordered dishes.

Good times! A great place to come with friends and enjoy BBQ meat together. This would also be a great place to come on a date and break the ice.

The sushi is ok and there is a wide variety of choices to keep it interesting for the all-you-can-eat.

The service is a bit slow so be sure to order a lot upfront so that you aren't left hungry at the table.

There are many different drinks and desserts too but we were too stuffed from dinner to try them. Haha!

This is not just food and drink. It is an event.

The service isn’t the best every time but this time was the worse. The food was great but service was terrible. No drinks before we got our food. Even we ordered them before. Server were rude and didn’t care at all. We waited forever. Everything took forever. We got attitude every time we would ask for anything. I work in the industry. I was so disappointed. My boyfriend was actually getting mad.

Out with the family. Great service, great food as always. Haven't gone to a all you can eat in a long time.

Everything from the sushi to the korean bbq was pretty good. I was surprised how good the sushi tasted. Not filled with rice, enough meat to rice ratio.

Kids love the wings and the ice-cream!

For an AYCE, their food is quite delicious. Definitely worth the price. Sometimes it’s super busy that the staff can’t accommodate everyone, however service is fast and they do try their best! Love the sashimi and the hulk. Definitely will be coming back

Small place. We were a group of 8 and we’re VERY squished in our booth because one side seemed to have some sort of block on one side making it smaller. But nonetheless the food was good for the price and I really liked the variety of things they had on their menu compared to other AYCE places.

This was the worst service i have ever had at a restaurant.they brought us food that we didn’t order and when we went to leave they made us pay for the food that we never ordered do not eat here ever it was awful

Poor customer service. You have to constantly look for the server. They forget about you and your order. They don't even apologize. They also told us to leave after 2 hours, understandble if the service is fine but it was poor.

Delicious KBBQ and sushi for a good, slightly more expensive all you can eat price. Staff are polite, has many sushi and meat options, and is a great stop if your nearby!

First time ever i left zero tip.
Service was super slow and then all the wrong food. We ate it anyway and it was good. But wont be going back any time soon.

Service is poor, we have waited for our order for an hour not until we call the attention of the server regarding our order and then gave us another slip order to fill up. I won't recommend this restaurant to my friends ever.

Service is so so. They only have 2 server in the morning shift so that the service speed is not good. Otherwise the food and quality is good. Especially the tapioca milk!

Eventually, the bbq is really general do not expect too much.

Was disappointed. Went here with my friends and we found a hair inside the spring roll. When brought up to Manager Steve, he promised us a 10 percent discount which was never applied to my bill. Not impressed especially during covid.

Still my favorite sushi place from before, during and after the pandemic. Try their halibut, saba, unagi, smoked salmon sushi, steak bites, oyster motoyaki, pork ribs (for bbq)!

The salmon avocado is absolutely incredible. The staff members are also usually really swift. I will say that when they are busy it's really hard to get service all the time, but overall it's good.

I’ve been coming here for years now and it’s a decent all you can eat Japanese restaurant. Overall the food was pretty good and the all you can eat is great value especially if you can eat a lot of food.

They could make their drink selection better as it was pretty limited. The same could be said with their dessert menu which was only limited to ice cream, jello or milk tapioca.

The BBQ grill in the middle of your table is great. It kept my kids entertained and it introduced an exciting way of dining in a restaurant to them.

I would suggest this place for anyone looking for some decent all you can eat offering.

Amazing place! Great and fast service! Very polite and helpful team members! Food is also amazing! Open late, which hard to find in Calgary for all you can eat sushi! Definitely will come back!

My girlfriend and I have been here before but it did seem better pre-pandemic. The quality of food seems to have taken a hit. The service was good with very nice and helpful staff.

Great place for an all-you-can-eat restaurant.
I must say that the staff works extremely hard considering how big and busy it is.
I prefer to go during busy times as it seems like this is the time when the freshest fish comes out.
Oh and you have the option to pick a table where you have your own Korean BBQ grill and cook certain things yourself, or you can choose a standard table and they cook those items in the kitchen.
Definitely recommended.

We like the food, was a really delicious experience; they have the option "all you can eat" that definitely we are going to try in another visit.

Great food but hair in food and cold meat. Unsafe practices during covid, manager Steve did not give the discount promised

I ask the front person if they still have a certain dish. He replies saying “yes we do. ” With the intent of being able to order right. Then I say can I order however many. Then he goes oh for take out? ! Acting all confused right cause there is obviously dine inn.

Anyways the guy say “sorry you can’t order take out. ”Then I just blankly stare at him and walk away… on top of that he made me wait for him to finish a phone call too. Basically wasted like 15 mins of my time.:)

Sushi was great I'm only giving the negative review due to the service. My girlfriend and I arrived at 915 and were told that the all you can eat sushi wasn't available anymore which was fine with us we were sat down, brought water and then were told we could order it from a different employee. We sat at our table without any service for over 30 minutes. By the time the waiter came back we placed our order when the food arrived we didn't receive chop sticks soy sauce or plates. This establishment has potential to be a top tier restaurant in Calgary for sushi but the staff and management definitely need to resolve the issues and clean as they go.

Food was excellent. Fish was fresh and not fishy smelling or tasting like at another local place. I've been back 3 times in the last couple of weeks. I really like the seared pressed salmon roll.

They had set up a dedicated outdoor seating area that was well distanced, the service was friendly and the prices more than reasonable. The sushi rolls, sashimi, squid legs, and udon noodles we had were all delicious and came with lots of food!

Have eaten here twice with some friends. Both times we ate here it was quite busy! Staff are attentive and friendly enough. Food isn't anything special but it isn't bad either. They seem to follow Covid-19 precautions carefully enough. Not a bad place for a Friday night hangout!

You should never go to a AYCE sushi restaurant expecting quality. That being said, Sushi bbq inn probably offers the best quality ayce sushi in Calgary - and from what I experienced is also the only one that serves a modest amount of rice for their rolls and nigiri compared to other ayce locations who are hell bent on stuffing you with rice. Bbq is decent and tasty but not traditional yakiniku, a bit more like korean bbq. Sashimi selection is small, but their nigiri selection is large and tasty, with some of my favorites being unagi (bbq eel), halibut, toro tuna (unfortunately and also obviously not bluefin or anything too high quality) and scallop. Rolls tend to be hit or miss, so order carefully. Service is a bit inconsistent, and is highly dependant on if you go during peak hours or peak days. There doesn't seem to be enough servers to handle the amount of customers half the time I visit. Highly recommend you book a table before the visit.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure that the "Toro" is actually Escolar.because I was violently Ill maybe 2 hours later, so beware of that one. Service is always incredibly slow. I dont think the quality of the sushi is very good. If you are going to eat here, the bbq is fine and other menu items, but I would just avoid the Sushi altogether.

Great food. People serving food are nice and polite. They try their best to make sure their customers are happy. Atmosphere is is decent. Sometimes service is slow and items ordered are miss but with so many orders going it, it can happen but an area to improve on. But would recommend this place as the heart is there.

One of my favorite places. Good quality and when considered with their excellent prices the ratio is one of the best.

The food was amazing, time management between bookings could use work considering covid. Waitress was prompt and helpful, they kept the sushi coming and every bite was delecious

Awful service literally awful half of our order never came and the servers were ignoring us completely. Food was good but this place should fire most of the servers.

My cousin and I went here last Friday as it was my favorite all you can eat sushi! My husband and I go ALL THE TIME and have noticed things going down hill. When we were here last week, we waited 10 minutes at the front door until someone came to help the customers waiting for a table. Thank goodness I made a reservation so we got right in. We sat down at 8: 00 and ordered our first round of food. As this food was nearly finished being served, we placed our second order of food. Time went by as we were talking, and my cousin asked me where our food was. I looked at my watch and realized it was already 9: 15. I asked a young waiter if he could check on this for us as we ordered our second round about half an hour ago. His immediate response was, if nothing comes out, just re order. I was surprised to hear this response! We waited another 10 minutes, and nothing. So, I asked a young waitress to speak with a manager. She said absolutely and went to go get them. 5 minutes later, the same young waiter came back out with another order form and said, "Your order is not up there, here, you can re order. " I told him I asked to speak with the manager and he informed me the manager had gone home for the evening. I asked to speak with the supervisor and he told me there was zero management on site! I told him this was ridiculous and didn't feel we should have to pay for all the food we did not get to eat! I mean, it is an all you can eat and we received only one order in the hour and a half we were there. By this point we were not hungry anymore and beyond frustrated. The waiter got frustrated and quickly said, "Fine, you can leave! I won't charge you, sorry. " And just walked away! I looked on their website to find an email or contact number to contact a manger, and there is nothing!
This experience has left me very disappointed as my husband and I really enjoyed coming here, and now they 100% lost our business and all our friends and family that eat here regularly.

A fantastic place to bring large groups of friends or even a date. Good and friendly service at a reasonable price for what's provided. AMAZING SASHIMI CUTS.

Be warned however that if you are to order delivery, the prices are ridiculous for what you get. We spent $90 and ended up getting barely anything.

Service is fast and efficient and quality of food isn't bad for an all you can eat sushi place. Been to a few of those all you can eat sushi places in town and this one is probably one of the best. Good selection for price as well. It's very popular and gets very crowded though so come early and be prepared to stand in line. Also parking here is just awful so it's suggested that you park further away and walk up.

Best all you can eat sushi I have ever had. Not cheap like other places where you get lots of rice and no fish and the also have Korean bbq options. The service is awesome and they cater well to students from SAIT at lunch with quick service. Highly recommended.

Very poor quality sushi and meat. Not sure if salmon was actually salmon. Such a poor service on top of that. Not going back again and definitely do not recommend this place.

Amazing Service, good quality food, fast food service even during peak hours. Best of all, this place offer more than just Sushi, including various BBQ meals and bowls, one of the better Sushi restaurant in Calgary.

Food was good quality but not a great selection. There are definitely better places in town for all you can eat sushi for the same price with better selection. I do like that they have bbq and sushi in the same place.
Service was absolutely horrible, however and just by looking around at the tables close to us, I noticed they favour tables since some were getting fast, great service while some suffered. Granted the restaurant was busy, but not busy enough for the service to be this bad. The servers messed up our drink order twice, and never offered refills even for water. They never came up to our table and asked if we needed anything or even looked in our direction. Tables that came way after us were receiving plates of stuff that we ordered but never received. We had to place our order twice because half of one never came, and at one point a server was asking tables what they ordered because they had a slip which they didn’t know where it came from.
The parking was a nightmare and had to park a couple of blocks away so be prepared to walk.
Long story short, I probably wouldn’t go back. There are plenty better places in the city for this.

Decent food, but service was inconsistent. Also, I have to special order (avocado allergy) and was told that the chef was demanding that we order all avocado-free items at one time, then no more!

All you can eat is great for a night out with friends but the quality of sushi is not the best. The rolls fall apart if you order them to go and I personally don't enjoy eating messy sushi.

I've been to this play 6 or 7 years ago and I didn't give the place a second chance. However my friends convinced me to go back one night and I was impressed. Would go back. Coming from a guy who has had a lot of sushi in Calgary and even Japan.

My belly sure knows the awesomeness that is Sushi BBQ Inn, a wide variety of sushi and other fishy treats also other food items for those who don't want to eat with the fishes. Great for a special dinner for two or a family get together.

Fantastic food at fantastic prices! They have a wide selection of different items, and everything is delicious!

The only issues are that because of the great food and prices, they are always busy. This means that the parking can be a bit of a challenge. But the biggest problem I've encountered is that with the "all you can eat sushi", because they are so busy, sometimes items you order will never arrive. And so you wait, or you take a chance, and REorder it, hoping you won't end up with doubles.

So I might leave, not having gotten something I was really looking forward to, but I do always leave full and happy.

Fast service, broad selection, fresh quality sushi and Korean BBQ.

Been going here for nearly 15 years and each time it is great. We try and go once every 2 months or so.

Went for lunch menu. Lunch menu had no sashimi, so they want you to pay the dinner price. Then you can only order 3 pieces per person at a time. Understabdably they won't let two patrons order from the different menu's as sharing is a possibility. They wouldn't even let us sit at different tables (albeit right next to each other) and dine as separate people. I've had good experiences here before, but the changes they've made to their menu's are no longer what I'd like to partake in.

We always have such a great time here! Food and service is fast and tasty. Though when you first walk in at the back there is a lot of junk lying around that you can see.

Food is good but service is absolutely awful. Been in a handful of times hoping it gets better but it truly doesn’t. The restaurant is always a mess with staff running around barely having time to greet you or even come grab your order. They offer all you can eat during lunch and dinner but is not worth it unless you have 3 hours to kill since repetitive ordering for all you can eat takes way too long for the server to come back and simply grab a slip. Sat there with my boyfriend for 30 mins waiting for our server to come pick up our slip for our second round of all you can eat as we didn’t plan on staying for 2 hours for dinner so we just grabbed the bill paying over $60 for sushi when we only had about 4 dishes total due to the lack of service. When we paid the server said that was fast when we had already been there for an hour and a half. Will not be going back to this restaurant after the 3rd time of giving it a shot.

I was recommended here by a friend so me and my boyfriend went, and honestly it was awesome! The people that run it (I think maybe a family) were so kind and sweet and were always on the ball with refills and the food always came out in a timely manner. The price is good, and the sushi tastes like it is worth a lot more than the price you pay for it! It seems a little sketchy because 16th ave isn't always the nicest of places, but I definitely recommend!

Place is too small now to fit the crowds that tonight. There. 20min wait for a table, 45 minute wait before the food started coming. Missing dishes. We were never asked if we wanted anything other than water. The food is still really good. Portions are okay all though the salmon sashimi was all cut to different sizes. Not sure if I'll go back now that the city had as much variety as it does.
