Great spot for a quiet dinner. Great food and the service was excellent as well. The spicy tuna was my favourite.

Dining in and being treated by the wonderful girls is an amazing experience. We enjoy the sushi so much but the people are the reason why we come here so often!

Sushi Anzu is one of the top 2 sushi restaurants I've ever been to in all of Calgary. The staff are great, and the sashimi and sushi are so fresh.the atmosphere is also nice.highly recommend.

We ordered take out from them last night and was really disappointed after finding a piece of hair in the rice. It was gross and we threw the rest of the food away. Anzu was one of our favourite sushi place but sadly we won’t be returning.

Delicious Japan cuisine, highly recommend the chefs specials. I particularly enjoyed the 3 shellfish sashimi set. The ramen broth of the red shrimp set was flavourful and full of umami. Everything we ordered was of exceptional quality and taste. Our server was friendly and welcoming.

Probably my favorite sushi restaurant here. Very fresh and always delicious and hits the spot. They have a great lunch special as well with their bento boxes. Takeout is also just as good as dining in. They have a small parking lot in front but lots of street parking available too.

Still the GOAT of sushi restaurants in Calgary. Our favorite spot. Sashimi is always fresh and prepped with care. And they have the BEST chicken katsu don I've ever had. 6 out of 5 stars

Food and price was acceptable. But service of the two girls were poor no smiles and seems very unhappy the whole time. I asked them for another menu and she turned back without saying anything definitely not a traditional Japanese service. Usually the chefs would say thanks when clients leave but no one does that when you walk out.

Food was good. Fish was fresh. Salad was fresh and miso soup was good. Had the lunch sushi and ramen. Wished the sushi combo had different kind of rolls as there were 12 pieces instead all being California rolls. Ramen was tasty. Although not as spicy as what I had anticipated from their menu description. However, there wasn't any quality check, always had to wave waitress down if need something. Had to ask to refill water 2x. Menu price items online needs to be updated. Overall, they do have a good selection for lunch combos for around 17/person.

Delicious! It tasted very fresh. You can tell that they pay attention to the details. From the beautiful Japanese pottery to the friendly service. Will be back to try their beef udon, which I heard good things about.

Delicious food and decent price on the special manu. We love the grilled fishes. It wasn't a lot of people. They close at 830 though.

Food: Everything we've ordered has been amazing! They find a way to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary. Every dish is an unexpected surprise. The presentation is beautiful and the taste is phenomenal. I have yet to find a dish that doesn't surpass my expectations. I would actually classify them as 6 out of 5 on this front.
Service: Wonderful service! The servers are very helpful and very informative if you're stuck.

Best sushi in this part of Calgary. It’s 10/10 consistently great- especially the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. Great to order from for take home too.

We were visiting from America and we were very happy with the food portions, quality, and service

Went on a weekend afternoon without a reservation and got seated right away. The menu is digital with a QR code at each table. Staff were prompt with bringing drinks and taking our order. Each person ordered a bento, which arrived with wonderful presentation. The food was hot and fresh, each bento came with a bowl of miso soup and rice.

The mackerel was crispy on the outside and the inside was not dry in the slightest. The sauce it came with matched perfectly with the fish as well. The fried pieces were well done and had a nice crunch to the outside.

Price was reasonable for each bento (~$17) and staff were very polite and attentive. The place did not get much busier into the afternoon, so the noise level was very low and comfortable for speaking.

We went for lunch today. Got a lunch box. I was surprised about price, was very reasonable and great value before. But no more… so same as other JP restaurants. Well, they have parking, taste is okay. So overall.okay.

Really nice little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. Lots of variety for lunch specials and lots of good sushi options. I got the ton katsu lunch specials and an order of the dynamite sushi. Left very satisfied.

Excellent food. Authentic restaurant. Every recipe I have tried from the menu is 5 stars. My 9 year old son is also a fan. He agrees that the restaurant deserves a 5 star review.

Casual place with cold Asahi on draft and lots of yummy sushi and side dishes. The special spicy scallop roll and the yam tempura rolls were our favorite.

So far the best Japanese restaurant still in business after the pandemic. The only thing is the thickness of their sashimi, should be different from sushi.

This place is legit! I was really impressed with the quality and freshness of the fish. I eat a lot of sushi and this might be some of the best i have ever had. Even the miso soup was authentic and rich. The waitress brough us a little tofu maki bowl on the house to start. Very well done.

Great ramen and sushi. One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Calgary if not all of Alberta. They serve Japanese beer and a large assortment of Sake as well. Place is a little small but atmosphere is amazing, it's just as if you are in Japan. You might eant to make reservations during dinner time. The ramen isn't the greatest but the soba and upon beef noodle soup is best!

The food was absolutely delicious. Best Japanese food I’ve had outside of Japan. The restaurant is small and cozy which adds to the experience! Prices are very affordable and the portions are great. Service was fast and the workers are very friendly. 10/10- will definitely make this place my go to Japanese spot!

This is always our family’s favorite restaurant. Quality of all food they prepare is done right. I’m from Japan and I also have Japanese restaurant in Canada but I have to say all food they make here is something I want to imitate and learn. Some here mentioned about price but I don’t think the price is not issue at all. Good service and fast. They should keep making what they make and how they prepare, don’t care about how some here review. Understanding everyone has different preference but as I know Japanese food from Japan, I have to say this is top 3 Japanese food I experienced in Canada in 23 years. Arigatou!

We went for dinner yesterday and we were able to get a table without a reservation for two. We ordered some shitake sushi, inari sushi, vegetable sushi roll, spicy salmon roll, okonomiyaki, sansai udon (wild vegetables), chirashi sushi, volcano and veggie gyoza.
The highlights of the meal for me was the vegetarian dishes; the sushi and the udon was very tasty. We would come back just for the vegetarian dishes. The spicy salmon roll was also flavourful and the sashimi in the chirashi sushi was very fresh. My least favourite dishes of the night was the volcano but its because we're not sauce people and this dish had a lot of sauce. If you love sauce; you will love this dish. The okonomiyaki was very sauce because it was also drenched in sauce. The restaurant is cute and reminds me of Wa's. We will be back for the vegetarian items.

Had the sushi lunch time lover for takeout. Very affordable for the sashimi and rolls given. The quality was decent but not excellent. I think the salad and the overall presentation could be improved but it also could’ve been because it was takeout.

Quaint and cozy inside! I had tonkotsu ramen and some assorted sushi. The broth was super rich and yummy, fish really fresh tasting. Service was awesome as well. Would come back again.

Overall is good but I think it's pricy compared to other places. Portion was quite small, the sushi rice was dry and the japanese pancake was too salty. I cannot even finished it. Btw, the servers were good but since quite a lot customers so service was slow

We ordered these goodies for an anniversary dinner, they were good. Would be better if we can eat there instead of take out. Let's wrestle COVID to the ground!

This is definitely the best place for sushi in Calgary so far. We’ve tried so many places but keep coming back in Anzu all the time.

Delicous and authentic Japanese food, great variety and portions. Having lived in Japan for close to 10 years Anzu is a little gem that I keep coming back to. Not just sushi - pretty much every Japanese dish you can imagine. Check out their new noodle restuarant just a few doors down opposite Safeway.

Idk how this spot has 4.6 stars you pay 40 dollar for 6 rolls that are tiny second of all the sushi is way to salty without soy sauce also they use way to much rice wine vinegar in there rice honestly I have my favourite spot and that's Kibo sushi and there not open today so I was like why not give this place a try and now I'm regretting it I should have just waited until tommorow what a total rip off your only getting 2 stars because the customer service was good

We popped into this place on a whim while in the area and WOW WHAT A HIDDEN GEM. The quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food and reasonable prices will make this one of our new favorites: D already planning out next visit.

The food and service was decent. Not much of a wait time for food. Appetizer portion is pretty small though.

Anzu probably is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Calgary. The food is authentic, inexpensive, and delicious.

Not the cheapest place but it's one of the best hidden gems in the city. The fish is great quality and everything feels like an authentic Izakaya straight out of Japan.

Excellent little sushi restaurant with delicious, authentic Japanese cuisine. My friend and I have been coming here regularly for a few years and we are always happy with the great food and friendly service. I highly recommend the iidako karaage!

Wow. Five stars is not enough. Perfectly cooked. Even the miso broth was extraordinary. I had butter fish and octopus my companion a Unagi bento box. Both were fabulous. The service was quick kind and friendly. Go here!

5 stars to 1 because of the worst service I have ever had on this Sunday evening. It was around 6: 30pm and there was just one server serving three tables only. However, our server took forever to bring menu, did not even ask if we want something to drink. We waited for around 15 minutes and left. Prob won't come back.

I've been here twice, the food has been good both times. The first time that I went it was mid afternoon and it was not busy, the service was very good, the second time that I went it was around dinner time and it was very buys, the service was still good, but I recommend that you make a reservation if you are going to go during a peak time. It is a small and cozy space, and I noticed that the menu was different both times that I was there, probably because of seasonal items. I would go back here. As far as cost it is about on par with other good quality Japanese restaurants.

Their Bento r pretty good. Freshness of sushi is alright.

Definitely the best sushi place in Canada if not all North America. Freshness and taste are first in class. The place is small, but authentic and makes you feel welcome. Variety of choices is incredible.

Their udon soup is SO good here, I come here once a week (not a exaggeration - I come every Friday I have off for their lunch specials; I personally go to the Lunch Box E with Chirashi Don + hot Udon soup). Not only do they have exceptional lunch specials for great prices, they have great, attentive staff.

Our meal was fantastic, and the sushi was some of the best in Calgary. Staff was very friendly and took good care of us.

It has been a while since I visit this restaurant. The place has always been a sushi restaurant, for the past 18,20 years, way back when it was called Wa's. I am sure it was changed hands at least one time, but the set lunch has always been about $15. $15 was rather expensive a few years back, but it is becoming the norm for any lunch in Calgary. This positions Anzu a lot more reasonable than ever, considering a bowl of pho, a McD meal is close to that price range. Anzu has a number of set lunch priced at $15. The choice is plenty. Portion is enough to fill me, I am sure a bowl of pho will be more filling, but Anzu is more refined. Quality is more important than quantity.
The menu offers a range of Japanese food, curry, rice, ramen, udon, soba, sashimi, sushi and tempura. So it fits anyone that likes Japanese food.

Came here for lunch twice now and both times were great. The food is authentic, fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. The service was good too!

One of our favourite Japanese restaurant. Service and food is always up there. Eddie and I always end up eating more than $100 plus of dinner here; usually, at other Japanese restaurants we would just eat for fun or as snack no more than $80. That just means the quality at Anzu was that great as a dinner for us. I always love ordering their specials, because they are so good. Don't miss out the limited Red shrimp, fish belly and fish cheek, from the special menu that's on right now. You won't be disappointed.

Great service! They have great vegan and Vegetarians menu. Just ask for it. Rice was well seasoned. Avocado was fresh. Vegetable roll is great! The trio is great! Spring rolls are delicious. Shittake roll.

Definitely ask for the veggie menu, it saves a lot of question asking if you've got dietary restrictions.

The food was delicious but the service was quite slow and somethings we ordered we didn't receive. The restaurant is quite small and gets busy quickly. We were the only ones in the restaurant but it still took us 10 minutes to get drinks and 30 minutes to order.
It was a bit overpriced for what we received but at least the forgotten items ordered didn't show up on the bill. We asked for the bill and it took 20 minutes to finally get it to pay and leave. If you're in a rush, probably not the best place. If you want decent food and don't mind paying more this is the place for you.

Great little sushi place. The previous place that used to be here was by far my favorite place in town, so this one had some big shoes to fill. Overall they succeed, not quite as good as Wa's but still a worthy addition to the Calgary sushi scene.
Lunch is where it really shines, the specials are great, so many options and very affordable. The broth for the Udon/Soba soups are really nice. I haven't tried the ramen but I suspect it would be good as well. Roll selection is pretty generic but nicely made.

Great little hole-in-the-wall sushi place. This restaurant is in the location of my former fave sushi joint in town so it has a lot to love up to - and it sure delivered.

We visited at around 5: 30 pm on a Saturday and there only 2 other groups of customers, but by the time we left (around 6: 15) it was starting to get full. There was also a steady traffic of take-out customers and Skip-the-Dishes pickups.

The main dining area had booths for about 22 (4 tables for 4 and a larger table at the end) along with 2 smaller tables for 2 each. There was also a small section behind a curtain but it was occupied at the time so we didn't look inside. I did find that the small space got cold with the opening of the front door, and our tea didn't stay warm very long.

The business seems to be run by a family. All the staff that we saw, from the hostess/waitress to the sushi chefs and the head chef were Japanese.

They had our 2 favourite Osaka/Kansai region dishes: Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki, which were both flavourful and cooked perfectly (see pics). They brought back fond memories of the year my wife and I spent in Osaka before we were married.

We shared these along with a "sushi set" which included 8 pieces of California roll and 7 pieces of assorted maki. I found the sashimi on the maki quite tasty for what we get in Calgary. We finished off by sharing a Goma (sesame) pudding which was served with a topping of maple syrup on the side.
In the end we could barely finish but were very satisfied. Our total bill, including tax, was just under $50.
