The Banquet

Had a great experience last night celebrating my birthday with my family. Our server “Kate the great” was amazing! She was super attentive, friendly and also hilarious! This place is one of our favourite go to spots! Lots of fun and kid friendly till 9pm!

Came here for Monday happy hour and the service was amazing! Ang P went above and beyond and she’s also hella cute

It was raining when we went so could not sit on the patio. Our waitress was an absolute boss! Remembered everyone's names, pushed tables together to make space for our big group and was attentive without being intrusive. I had the sunshine salad which mentions quinoa. I mentioned to my waitress that the quinoa seems almost non existent, she agreed and got me some on the side. We loved the vibe of the place. They have some interesting drinks. I think this would be a great place to celebrate birthdays or have gatherings of 20 ish people. There is a bowling alley downstairs and upstairs they have arcade games and some lawn games. Overall, it is a great place and has enough parking.

This is my first and last time ever coming to this establishment.
I know service is a hard industry right now but this place doesn’t even try. I can’t recommend this place to anyone ever. There are so many better places to eat in Calgary so please avoid this place and spend you money at a place that wants to earn your business.

Went on a Friday at 5pm. Service was slow. Seemed like there was not enough staff and no management around to help. Food was terrible, steak was rubber. They brought two peoples meals at a time (we had a group of 9). By the time I had gotten my food everyone else finished their meals. Do not recommend unless you are going to have a pint. The games were not great either. Big hype for terrible experience.

WOW! The food was absolutely delicious - I will definitely be making the drive from Cochrane again. The waitress we had was funny and provided great service. There is a great vibe, without it being too noisy.

I have been here 6 times and today was my final time trying this location, and of all the times it was Father’s Day with my son and partner. Three out of these times there had been very little service or none whatsoever where I’ve had to leave as we have been completely ignored or not helped. Today we waited almost two hours with no food but many offers of drinks. We played the games to try to kill time but our 7 year old couldn’t wait anymore to eat and we couldn’t be late for another commitment for the day. It would have been good if the staff had been transparent that they had no kitchen staff or how long the wait there would be to respect people’s time on Father’s Day. I hope you and your team have more training in such a prime location.

The food is good but speaking as someone who used to work at this location, I cannot in good conscience recommend eating any of it. They don't give their employees any PTO or sick leave, so I personally witnessed my Prep Team Lead sneezing all over the ingredients on multiple occasions, infecting the rest of the team, and almost certainly infecting customers. I can almost guarantee it's still happening.

Most of my coworkers were kind and wonderful, but the kitchen is very poorly managed and the Head Chef and the Prep Team Lead work their employees to the bone which makes the quality of everything suffer. There's no accomodations for workers with disabilities, even if they promise you there are during the interview. Many staff do not follow proper safety procedures, putting everyone at risk. I didn't even get paid for any of my backbreaking/finger-numbing labour (except for tips) until well after I left the company, thanks to their buggy new-fangled computer systems, which is suspect at best if not straight up illegal practice.

So yeah, all in all, definitely not a business I want to support after experiencing what it's like behind the scenes.

My review is basically on par with the previous bad reviews. Service was horrible, food was incredibly slow and arrived cold. I had to ask for someone to come serve our table a couple of times in which they weren’t super pleasant when they did come by. We had kids in our party and with the food arriving sporadically, half of our party was done eating by the time the rest of the food arrived and some of the kids were beyond starving waiting for their meals. While the concept of this place is neat, and the kids love the games, I don’t think we will be back. Interestingly, when I read the reviews, the management is mostly replying only to positive ones and does not seem to be addressing the negative ones and trying to improve! To me, that says a lot about an establishment when there appears to be a trend (ie bad service) and it isn’t addressed. I understand how hard it is right now to get staff, but these reviews highlight areas of improvement and training needs that should addressed.

We have been here twice now and both times the food was good but the service isn’t the best. The patio is really nice and the whole theme is pretty cool. The bowling is a nice idea but they have made it a bit too expensive in our opinion. The drinks are good. They could have a better happy hour food menu with a good 4-5$ pint like some of the competitors. We haven’t tried the brunch yet but once we have we will update the review and let you all know what we thought. Overall Banquet is a great addition to the Mahogany community.

Good service and food was amazing.

Went for Wing Night and the price was reasonable. The various wings were either a hit or miss with our friends. We pretty much got to all of them minus the All-dressed. Creamy Dill was the best one I found.

The upstairs patio looks spacious and very fun to be in. We were short on time and couldn't hang out with their games area, would've tried them out. Only a star off for how windy the evening was. They decided to have the main floor closed but the patio be open.

Excellent towers of booze for purchase. We got the peach tea and the Somersby cider in towers. I also got the sweet heat chicken burger and we got the appie tower. Appy tower was a bit disappointing, I wouldn't order it again. Service was infrequent but the orders were not wrong.

Love this place, I've been a few times now already and had a great experience every time! Cool place to hang out with or without kids. Bowling downstairs was fun, a few arcade games on each floor l, lovely rooftop patio.

Service wasn't great. We were the only table the girl had and she was pretty bad. Clearly new to serving and wasn't trained well, or isn't meant for this industry, not overly friendly. Also $6 for 2oz of guacamole is absolutely ridiculous.

A great place for tasty food and drinks! Loved the deep fried cheese curds and sushi tacos.

We went to sit on the patio yesterday afternoon (a Saturday around 4pm) intending to celebrate our anniversary. The patio is gorgeous and we thought it would be fun to be able to play some games and have some drinks. However, when we first sat down a server brought us some water and told us someone would be with us shortly. Well, we sat there for half an hour and not a single one of the 7 (SEVEN!) staff that we saw came over to our table. It was by no means busy (mostly empty), they were just standing by the bar in a group, talking, laughing and eating. Many of the staff walked right by us without making eye contact or saying a word. We ended up leaving and walking to brewhouse where we had a great experience. This is now the second time we’ve been there and the second time we sat on the patio and were not served. The first time was a Friday night and it was packed so we didn’t think much of it, just went to the bar to get our own drinks. I’ve been a server and totally get how tables can get missed when you’re swamped, but yesterday it was just ridiculous. It’s unfortunate because the venue is awesome and we would have loved to have spent a lot of evenings there, but the staff is horrible. Takes away the fun of the atmosphere when you can’t even get a drink. We don’t plan to return.

Hey Banquet, cool venue, good food, staff were great. Couple takeaways. Our mains came out before our appies…so we ended up cancelling them. The corn hole looked cool at first but quickly became obnoxious. It was either played by loud drunks or toddlers, I couldn’t decide if I was in a downtown bar or daycare. Our server was great, we will try again.

Doesn't have a lot of competitive advantage of differentiation from other bars of that size

How this has good starts in beyond me! Terrible management nobody knows anything I’ve had too many bad experiences now I give up. I love the atmosphere so kept trying have been there over 15 times and honestly 1 time had a decent experience. It’s too bad I really love the idea of it.

Our latest and now last time going we purchased the Father’s Day ticket and was given a 12 Reso we arrived and we’re told it didn’t start till 6. They did let us stay and use our tickets we waited 75 min for our food. Was asked about our drinks 1 time after the first order and that took 35 min.to get it. It wasn’t even busy. I saw another table walk out.

Finally we get this father say “tower” burnt chips. Mushy corn we could t eat it. The only thing that was good I’ll admit were the ribs. Also the tower was missing pork belly and jalapeños.

I am sure we didn’t even get into the draw as they took our ticket but not our name or anything. This was the hook that got my wife to even buy the ticket was the smoker draw.

In my opinion she threw $100 in the toilet.

Ordered beef dip and yam fries. The sandwich was mediocre at best and the fries were cold and soggy. First game didn’t work and went to ask someone for help. One waitress told me that game usually accepts toonies or bills but depends if I wanted to gamble or not. The helpful bartender came over and said if he couldn’t get it working, he’d give us the money back we put in. He got it working so that was good, but then the game didn’t keep track of our scores so it was a waste anyway. You better bring your own change as well to play because alllll their change machines may be down and they won’t provide you with change. We went upstairs to play a couple games and every single table was dirty and no one was up there.

We live in Mahogany but work out of town and have been wanting to come here for awhile. Overall, underwhelming and disappointing.

It would be fair to say that it is one of the enjoyable place in Calgary, SE!
Only one thing that it has own building and a parking letting you know that it is not something temporary attempt to earn some money.

Right away at the main entrance you will aee that you can buy your own cup for the beer and you will have your own storage aswel so that everyone can see how cool are you.

The food is ok, nothing special but it's tasty and well prepared You will definitely will not be hungry here.

Waiters are pretty girls so it gives it place more attractivity to someone ;)

Main flour is great and shadowed from the light and has it's atmosphere.
There's a patio on the top with heaters so that you always be comfortable there and some gameplaces for you and your kids. If you got bored take yourself to the bowling in basement!

Washrooms have their own designs so that you time while you waiting was not boring.

I will definitely recommend this place for everyone who is around this part of city.

I took my dad here for Father's Day for lunch. We got there and ordered food and drinks right away. We got drinks and water right away but it took an hour and a half to receive our food order and it was lukewarm. Service was very sporadic, food took forever and we saw several other tables walk out. I didn't cause too much of a fuss because I got to spend time with my dad, but I was charged full price and probably won't return. It's unfortunate because the venue has great potential but the service was terrible.

Terrible.don't waste your time.its a cute concept but Rec Room has them beat. Banquet is pricey for what you get and then you are mocked if you return something - was served a glass of wine that was very much obviously 'off' could smell it a mile away, took a sip and was like no, there is something so wrong, can i get something else.server was gracious but the bartender was rude for me sending it back.just really, really terrible all the way around

We went on a Friday and took advantage of the rewards app to get a free pizza. Service was excellent and timely, and our drinks were good. We had trash can nachos, which were not exactly exceptional (and were a fairly small serving), followed by a Big Smoke pizza and some buttermilk fried chicken. The pizza was fine, but I'd recommend going a different route than Big Smoke as it was rather dull. The fried chicken was also very so-so, and the kettle chips that came with them tasted burnt.

We didn't try the entertainment side of things, so I can't speak to how fun the bowling and arcade portions are, but other people did seem to have a good time with it. For my part, the best I can say is the food was mostly inoffensive, and for the price you're paying that feels underwhelming. We might come back again, but we won't be in any hurry.

Well that was an awful experience. The whole family went there to enjoy a meal. Slow service, slow drinks, no refills, slow food and worst of all was the drunken couple swearing 75 times a minute around tables of kids. Dirty washrooms, no paper towel, not enough utensils. I have worked in the restaurant business so am very slack when it comes to service. I would avoid this place and head to other pubs in surrounding areas. If simple tasks can't be completed makes you wonder what the kitchen and food preparation is like. Will not ever be back.

The food, server, and environment was great! The place is kid friendly until 9 pm the food was fresh. Our server Sierra was amazing. She went out of her way to make sure we were taken care. It was a busy Friday night she followed up on our order and didn't just forget about us. She was also able to get us a round of drinking because we had to wait a little longer for our food. Instead of us sitting there wondering oh when our food was coming Sierra went the extra mile to make sure we were happy and taken care of.
