Waited around until nearly 11: 10am this morning, no one showed up to work clearly. Lights still out, no sign of life in the back. Paid for parking for nothing.
Awesome place! Been going here for almost 10 years. Food has always been high quality, large portions for low prices and a great place to just hang out with friends as well! The food isn’t always out the fastest but these guys work so hard to make sure everyone gets what they ordered. I also take a while to decide my order and they’re always patient, which I also appreciate! Keep it up Big Cheese, love you
I like the variety of menu items that provide fun modifications to a classic sort of poutine. The fries, gravy and cheese are all tasty. I like that they have several gravy options as well for vegetarian, gluten-free, and regular eaters. That said, the service is slow for what it is, and the last two times I've been there my order was wrong. The first time I was eating in and caught it, but then had to wait another 10 or so minutes for them to remake it. About a month later I visited again for takeout, got home, and found it was just a basic poutine although I'd ordered the loaded veggie with extra guacamole (it should have had mushrooms, onions, peppers and peas). Very disappointing to have this happen twice in a row out of the three times I've been there. I don't think I'll risk it again.
I have been to the other The Big Cheese in the SW and both locations in Calgary are phenomenal! I ordered the Ho-Down again (my absolute favorite kind) and it was filled to the top rim of the box! Also, it of course, tasted delicious! The most amazing bang for your buck! Will be back! I was blown away once again. Thank you!
Giselle is amazing and is always a delight to see her little cheerful face. Food was delicious and they also serve beer for those who indulge on a hot summer day. Also have street side tables which is a bonus. Keep up the great work!
I had the traditional Poutine and it was very good. Enough gravy and cheese to last though the dish. Price was fair for the portion size. I went on a Sunday for lunch and it was busy but still had seating. Definitely would go again and would recommend to others.
The food was not fresh, we were all sick after eating there and the poutines were semi cold. The place was almost empty and it did not seen very clean.
I guess it has unusual poutine combos like pierogi and bacon, but in my opinion this is a one time visit. The portion size is huge, even for the small box, and food tastes quite salty.
I love everything about this hole in the wall poutine joint. The food is to die for, so much selection and flavor combinations to try. I've only tried 4 or 5 different poutines and can't wait to try them all. They even have vegan options and other gluten options as well. They know poutine!
Tried the Hog Heaven poutine and it had a smooth, sweet, BBQ sauce with tender pulled pork. It did take ~7 mins to make but it was worth it. If there was one downside, it was that they didn't give that much cheese curds. They offer a free huge pickle when paying with cash but I think what I appreciated the most was the employee that helped me to understand what the different flavors would turn out like. She was always smiling and very helpful. Will be back very soon!
The last two times I have ordered the taco Luchador from the Kensington location I have become HORRIBLY sick the first time I was sure it was a Tim hortans wrap I ate the same day but I ordered again and this time the poutine was all i ate that day. I have now been greeted with the same flu like symptoms as the first time I ate from this location. So I will NEVER be ordering from this location again or any other big cheese location even though I have ordered from others in the past and had no issues it’s just not worth the serious health risk And inability to leave your bathroom for 24 hours.
Originally from Nova Scotia and was looking for my poutine fix. Found this place online and saw that they do donair poutine and have been told that only Nova Scotia can do donair right so thought I would try it.
They didn’t disappoint, the donair tasted like the kind back in Nova Scotia although I did find the sauce to be a tad on the sweet side but definitely delicious. Definitely recommend and will be back to try another kind
Always love the poutine here, one of the best in the city for sure! The staff here are always great, very kind and welcoming. One of my favourite places to eat in Kensington!
Every time I visit my family in Canada we come here. They have vegan and gluten free options as well as all other types of poutine (pierogi, maple bacon, buffalo chicken). My family isn't vegan but they like the vegan poutine too!
Poutine was fantastic, it is a little bit overpriced but very yummy.
I did score the service very low as I've contacted the location several times. I forgot to grab my receipt when I was in there. And they have not called me back or sent me a copy of my receipt
