The Big Moo Ice Cream Parlor

A Sylvan Lake summertime staple that should not be missed! Whether you are enjoying a long hot day at the beach or you just have to be passing by the Lakeshore Big Moo is always a great place to stop for a treat.

Boasting dozens of hard ice cream flavors, a number of frozen yogurt options, a bunch of different kinds of baked goods as well as a variety of other drink and snack options, there's a good bet you'll be able to find something you enjoy. With all these record setting hot days we've been experiencing, the time is right for a nice ice cream snack.

**My nieces and I suggest a double scoop of Wet Paint and Moon Most for those of you who are a child at heart (or otherwise)!

The service has been excellent every time I've gone in, Even on days when the seemingly endless line of customers must be causing some stress.

The one thing you will want to watch out for is the crowds as sometimes the line will be right out the door and down the block; even with the multiple additional locations found further down the lakeshore. So if you're planning to go on a particularly hot day or at peak hours, plan to have a bit of a wait in line.

So, I haven't been here in over 17 years when I used to live there, BIG MOO is most definitely not what it used to be, small scoops at an overrated price point.for a family of 4 at 2 scoops a person will hit you over $40.00+
I'd understand if the scoops were bigger, yet this is highway robbery. The big moo is an will always be a sylvan Lake institution, but the prices are getting out of control. There are other places you can get similar ice cream for about half the price or less. Good atmosphere, service and location, but just too expensive for a family.

Second scoop was significantly smaller than the first! Can go wrong with Foothills ice cream!

If you have the time to wait, it can be worth it, though it costs a bit more then you expect, and if it's busy don't bother trying to chat with the workers as they need to move quick.

But that being said, the icecream is really good, and there are a ton of flavors to choose from, and they are very generous with their portions. If you go off season there's not so much of a rush, so you can take time looking and picking what you'd like.

My Aunt from England had a fantastic experienced. There are huge variety of ice cream and no regrets stoping in Sylvan just to have ice cream.

This place is amazing, the staff are so friendly, it's got great flavours of icecream and other desserts. The lady behind the till that served me (Stephanie the manager, she deserves a raise) made sure that service and expectations were met and held to a very high standard. Awesome place to go

Grabbed ice cream and mozza sticks to eat right away- very yummy. And one cake pop to go. Several flavours and hubby and I found 3 each.

Always packed, got a nice vibe to it and the location is perfect! The variety of flavours are so many in number and so unique, it was difficult to actually pick one! Wish I could try and pick like at some other ice cream joints. Grab and ice cream and head down to the beach!

Too many choices! Some would say that's a good problem to have haha cookie dough is the best!

Great dessert shop to get snacks, ice cream, and baked goods. Location is a plus, since you're only a few steps to walk to the beach and also other restaurants. We came in on weekday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. I just wish that they have more selection of lactose-free flavours for ice creams. I also agree that finding a parking spot beside the shop is terrible so be prepared to walk!

This is a nice place with a retro feel. So much more than ice cream, but an astounding selection of ice cream and other treats.busy, but they have a great system to move you through. The homemade waffle cones and bowls are amazing.

$10 for a tiny bit of overcooked chicken popcorn. Wait forever. I understand that it was busy but the wait time was ridiculous and the food was not appetizing.

Their shaved ice is pretty good! Ice cream and smoothies are fantastic! Blue Cotton Candy shaved ice flavour is so good. Their waffle cones are SOOO good. The Chocolate Fudge is very good too!

Customer service is amazing! But be prepared for a long lineup and wait time!

The reason why I gave a 4 star and not a 5 is because, there is only one size for shaved ice. No small, medium, or large.

We bought ice cream and sunglasses here. Parking was disappointing in this town so we most likely will not be back unless the city can rectify the terrible experience we had. We talked to many other people who have had issues with the parking here as well.

Great ice cream. Very busy but it goes really fast.i had the cherry custard it was very good.the cookie dough had lots of dough️

My mom and I went there today and she that their ice cream is amazing. We sat together at the bench looking over the lake getting an ice cream together. And normally my mom complains about almost everything.

She said the great day.
And I can't believe I ate the whole thing.

The ice reams are delicious. They have different varieties of flavors. And the cones are also so crispy and big.
I can say for sure that Sylvan Lake is visited because of this ice creams!

Excellent ice cream, too many flavors and cone to choose from. Lol. Other customers were nice even though we accidentally cut in front of them. Will be back I hope.

So much variety and selection.loved every bit of the experience.make sure you take heaps of napkins if you are ordering 2 or more scoops.

This place is always amazing. It's been three years since I was here. Some Reno's were done. Really like the outside area now.
2 waffle cones, 2 scoops, 1 waffle bowl, 2 scoops just over $25.00. And delicious. As good as I remember. Keep up the great experience.

The ice cream and chicken fingers and fries are SO GOOD! I'm a chocoholic so I get the Chocolate Lovers ice cream every time and it never disappoints! The staff are the best too! Love coming here!

Ice cream was terrible. 2 scoops for 9$ was basically one scoop, found hair in the ice cream and they wouldn’t refund super chaotic and loud and we where the only customers wish zero stars was possible

Grabber 4 cones on our way home yesterday. Not sure if it was because it was really busy. But very small ice cream cones for 26 dollars. The single scoop I ate in 2 bites. Double cones were very small as well. Good ice cream but very small scoops compared to last summer.

Great place to stop for an ice cream if you're in Sylvan Lake! Long lineups in the summer, but great ice cream. And they are located right on the lake, so if you're hanging out on the pier fishing, or at the beach with the kids, just walk over & enjoy a cold treat!

One of the best milkshake places around alberta hands down. Lots of variety to mix from and staff are super nice and quick to help you out. Burgers and onion rings n Poutine r super bomb as well! Will not regret for those not from sylvan lake to make a visit just to eat at this place

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Unfriendly owners, staff is rude, everything is over priced and they are the most greedy people in sylvan lake. #boycottbigmooandalloftheirbusinesses

It's super crowded.
Tasty Icecream and frappe.
Very hard to hear anything there, so loud.
Hope next time we will be lucky and won't won't to wait 20mins to try different flavors.

We were there last night that the big move ice cream parlour if food is absolutely amazing in the service is great it's a very clean lots of other gift stores within the building I would highly recommend

Large selection of hot drinks for a cool day at the lake. Prices are possibly slightly more than competitors, though it’s a minimal difference to get the larger size up on a drink. Nice location right by the lake. A selection of options for toppings on hot drinks: “whipped cream, ” chocolate, cinnamon, the works. Be aware that the “whipped cream” is actually whipped topping and does not taste like real whipped cream and does not have real cream in it. It was quite a long wait to receive 4 hot drinks after paying, and they were lukewarm. Unfortunately the whipped topping on our drinks was rancid; we informed the staff so hopefully that was thrown out though there was no apology. Looks like they have some very interesting options for burgers; the food other people were eating looked good. No dairy free options for hot drinks; at least the workers at the counter was not aware of any dairy free options.

There are ants crawling all over the window frames inside the store.

Covid related: Staff seem to be keeping on top of wiping down all the tables and benches. Floor is marked with tape for keep people 6 feet apart. Sanitizer at front door. Plexiglas sheets along the counters. Staff are wearing masks.

Very good selection of ice-cream and freshly made cream cheese fudge. We always go to get our ice creams there whenever we visit sylvan lake.

Big Moo is the best ice cream you could find in central Alberta, the flavours are so good and the owner is very friendly.

Love this place! As much a part of Sylvan Lake as the lake itself! The owners are amazing people as well! The new generation are constantly innovating and improving. A staple for our family! We recently had one of their ice cream cakes for a birthday and WOW! Blown away! So good!

Not all flavors are good. So be very picky and think before you oder. My family ordered 6 different flavors and only two were outstanding, rest were so-so.

An excellent place to come and to enjoy some sweets in this place. When it comes to hot summers, this place is a go to place for some awesome Ice Cream and all its snacks and meals you can have. And the best part its next door to the gifts section and beach toys ya need for your summer weekend get away. Like floaties, life jackets, beach toys, you name it. But the Ice Cream it self in that place is to die for. All sorts of different ice cream that you crave for your sweet tooth of yours. So recommended to those who wants some sweets and a cool place to cool off from the summer heat ^^
