The Mustard Seed

This "christian" organization discriminates against transgender people. They are ignorant and bigoted. They also go out of their way to bully and harass the people staying here. I graduated college in 2014 yet the staff who are less educated than me love to act like they are better than you. I'm simply on rough times recently as I don't have family to fall back on. Back in August I was in jail for 2 weeks for an unpaid fine (at the Calgary Correctional Centre West Wing) and I am not kidding when I say I was more comfortable and less stressed out in jail than I am in this shelter. It's pretty messed up when jail is better than your shelter.

Update: They kicked me out for writing this review and asking to speak with Anita about the staff misgendering me and the treatment of transgender people here. Now I have nowhere to go as a vulnerable person and they know that. They also refused to let me speak with Anita. Absolutely horrible. When I requested to speak with Anita I mentioned that she is married to UCP policitian and CPC candidate Jeremy Nixon. Since he is a public figure I did not see a problem with that. They said mentioning family members is a "veiled threat". But he is a public figure. It seems they simply wanted to push me out for daring to stand up for my rights as a transgender person. The Mustard Seed affiliating themselves with the name of Christ is grotesque and counter to the actual teachings of Jesus.

Tried to get a working bed, but they gave me the run around. After work around 715 pm there were 20 people in front of me, and 5 more came after.anyhow they singled me out and told me to leave because I would not get bed.it was midnight and the buses stopped running.the people they came after me stayed.it was the coldest night of the year.and I had no place to go, and could not get there.so I stayed out side I was a little bitter. They asked me to come in but I would not. As far as I was concerned others should have been in my spot. Finally the mustard seed called the police on me. Because I was an eyshore for them standing outside. The police arrested me saying I had a warrant. Only after the fact. They realized they mD a mistake and took the cuffs off. The drove me away from the seed so oneone could see.dropped me off at a tim Hortons.and left.

I was a person In need and they not only helped me, but they allowed me to feel comfortable with asking and gave me comfort in knowing that i would get back on my feet and I was so greatfull then and still today because of their help and console that they gave me. I am back on my feet and have not forgotten them and their help.

Great for the city, Great organization. Went to donate for Christmas. They wanted to charge $75 for processing fee. Pretty sad.

My daughter who recently passed away, Desiree, got lots of help from the people there.

I took someone here who needed some assistance. The staff were very compassionate and extremely helpful. Great starting point if you ever end uo in a situation where ypu have nothing and need immediate assistance.

Perfect place to be when your homeless. All that aside there is much more they could be doing to give their employees the edge when it comes to serving this community.
