After dealing with a place that dismissed my medical concern with my eye, I popped into this office and within 2 minutes I had been diagnosed and sent with a prescription. (I knew what I had as it's on on going issue). Want to thank the lovely doctor who helped me be able to see out of both my eyes again

Please bear with the long review, but i would like to provide enough context in the hopes that it will prove useful to others who are experiencing post-lasik complications.

I had Lasik surgery approximately 16 years ago, and started experiencing some double vision issues only recently, which my regular optometrist couldnt correct with eyeglasses.
I went back to the surgeons who performed the lasik (who of course promised follow-up care in the event of issues). After a couple of exams, the Lasik surgeons office ghosted me, probably because they know they can't correct it. They have refused to contact me since (for 6+ months, even though i have called and left messages), probably because they don't have the courage (or frankly, the ethics) to have that conversation with a patient who is dissatisfied with their surgical results. That will be a separate review at some point.

After seeing an excellent ophthalmologist and being diagnosed in spring of 2023 with post-lasik ectasia, I was referred to Moe Tarabey at Thompson Optics for a scleral lens fitting as a potential solution.

The lenses Dr. Tarabey fitted me with are extremely comfortable and I have no problems wearing them for an average of 12 hours per day. Even more importantly, the results have been superb as my vision has been ~95% restored. I am seeing very close to 20/20 again, which has been a huge relief. I still have a limited amount of visual distortion under very low light conditions, but it is relatively minor and manageable.

Scleral lenses are quite pricey, but they are worth every penny to restore my vision, especially given how comfortable they are. They've also mitigated most of my dry eye symptoms (another common Lasik side-effect).

I couldn't possibly say enough good about Dr. Tarabey and the rest of the staff at Thompson Optics.

Had a great experience, they treat us like family here. Both my wife and I have purchased eye wear from Thompson Optics. I love the product and quality of the eye wear, they carry beautiful designer brands made in Italy, Spain and Denmark.

My experience with the clinic wasn’t great. I am not new to eye glasses and contacts, I’ve been wearing both for over 25 years. The woman that did the preliminary exams was inexperienced and admittedly new. I seen Dr. Avneet Purewal for my exam, everything was routine during the exam other than it was rushed. Ordered some daily contacts and wanted to try different brands, I was given a date that the contacts would be available.

Unfortunately the date came and went and I had to call 2 weeks later to find out when I would receive the contacts. When I called I was told they were having supply chain issues with specific brands and that everything was back ordered. On that call, I made an appointment to go in a week later. I then received a try out pack and completed the fitting with a cheaper brand that they had in stock.

During the fitting I noted that the left eye vision was not optimal, at first Dr. Avneet mentioned that she’d tweak the prescription. She then insisted that she aid in putting in the left contact, (she was in a rush) but the rough way that she opened the eye to put the contact in, actually made my left eye sore for a few days after. Near the end of the appointment she confirmed that she would NOT be tweaking the prescription as it was too minor (to her) a change, I lost my faith in her abilities at that point and wanted to get my eyes tested at different clinic.

I called the clinic a day or so later to request the funds for the eye test be refunded as I would not be utilizing the prescription and intended to get another exam. I did not request a full refund even though the contact fitting was a waste of time. My solution was to get an eye test from another clinic and I would provide proof that I had done so by receipt and by producing the new prescription before obtaining the refund. Sadly, I was refused.

Myself and 6 others (family) will not be returning to the clinic for eye exams. I do not recommend Thompson Optical, customer relations and quality of vision is simply not a priority.

Around January 2022 I was diagnosed with an eye disease that has required me to switch to wearing a special contact lens full time. My previous optometrist tried to get me to wear a hard contact lens that was incredibly uncomfortable and downright impossible to wear for over 3 hours.

So I decided to look for a second opinion and found Thompson Optics. Not only are Dr. Thompson and Dr. Tarabey 2 of the nicest people I've ever met, but they also have no problem answering any questions I ask them and even encourage them! (Which I've found to be increasingly rare in the medical profession.)

They were relatively quickly able to confirm my eye disease and get me fitted with a much more modern contact lens that I can easily wear all day long with great comfort!

I've been seeing them for about a year now and I have had absolutely no problems. Even the receptionists are incredibly nice!

If I could rate them any higher I would!

PLEASE READ ALL & BUYER BEWARE! The one star is for Andrey, who was very helpful, otherwise I would have left zero stars. I picked out my glasses and had an eye exam by Dr. Tarabey and everything seemed to be going ok at that point. We paid for half the cost ($600) because they wanted a deposit. 10 days later I went to pick up my glasses and I couldn't see out them. Everything was all blurred. The doctor kept insisting that my eyes were too dry (even though they were fine during the exam) and kept pushing eye drops on me. He also kept pushing me to take the glasses home and try them (I couldn't see out of them!) and pay the balance. I told him I wasn't taking them because I couldn't see out of them. So after a long ordeal, he booked me for another eye exam and said if my eyes were still really bad he would have to refer me to an eye specialist. He was very argumentative and frustratedly said I'll give you a full refund (my husband was with me the whole time and also heard him say this). So we left the glasses there and left upset. A few days later we decided that we would just go back and buy the frames. WHAT AN ORDEAL THIS WAS. We have contacted the Better Business Bureau over this.
Anyway, after telling them that we would just keep the frames, the manager went into an office and called the doctor. She came out and told us that we had to pay a restocking fee of $187! There was never any mention of a restocking fee, nor is it mentioned on their invoice. My husband asked if they were putting the lenses back into stock and she said no they would be sent back to the company. So if they're NOT going into stock, how can they charge a restocking fee? In the end they refunded $22 and kept the rest of the initial $600 deposit, which is outrageous. Oh, and they didn't even put the display lenses back in my frames.
My sister lives in The General and went here for her glasses. She never wears them, which I told the doctor. She has dementia so I guess they just soak people like that and don't care if their glasses work for them or not. He said "what are you trying to do, hurt my feelings? "
OMG what an unprofessional doctor.

I had another eye exam at EYE CRU after this. Turns out my eyes have not changes at all. My old glasses are 5 years old and the coatings have worn off which was causing my vision to not be clear. This place is so awesome to deal with and has all the major designer names, including the ones that Thompson Optics has. I could have saved a lot of money if I had gone here first.

Went to get an adjustment for some nose pads that were slightly misaligned. The optician then proceeded to change the nose pads out and charged me for the service. Full disclosure: I did not buy my glasses here and would normally have gone to my own optician, but I was heading out of town. However, I did have my eye exam here. I understand charging for adjustments, but I was not told that there would be a charge until after the service was performed, nor was I asked if I wanted the nose pads changed out (I didn't).

I had a cataract surgery in both eyes and the natural lenses were replaced with multifocal intraocular lenses. I had blurred vision for the first two days after the surgery and, on the third day, I noticed something unexpected: the same source of light was producing multiple images in both eyes. The best metaphor I have to describe what happened is that many sources of light looked like the rose of Alberta (a central part with 5-6 petals). A few days later, I noticed all kinds of aberrations: e.g, halo, sunburst, diplopia, blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night. During the next couple of months I saw a couple of optometrists who said that I had a dry eye problem (which is correct) and that eye drops, restasis, and omega 3 should alleviate the problem. I was willing to listen to them but I was always skeptical about their reasoning because the visual system is a complex system and explanations based on the tear film appeared insufficient. Both optometrists recommended to be patient and, to me, they appear to stop the investigation too early. I saw another optometrist two months after the cataract surgery and this person realized that my condition was not normal. He opened the door to see the ophtalmologist who completed the surgery. This specialist said that he “had never seen something like that before” and asked me to complete some other tests. A topography revealed that both corneas were warped (they had hills and valleys) and this might partly explain the numerous aberrations I have had. It was decided to do a lasik on my non-dominant eye because a lasik could “smooth” the cornea. I observed some changes in my lasik operated eye but the end result was not good: I still saw multiple images with my operated eye. Again, I was told to be patient and with time I should observe significant improvement. A second lasik was scheduled for my dominant eye but, given the lack of success of the first lasik, I declined this possibility. During this lengthy and stressful process I considered what I believe was my last option: use scleral lenses. I contacted Thompson Optics and made a consultation appointment with Dr. Moe Tarabey. Although my initial plan was to have a consultation, I was fitted with scleral lenses in his office on this day. The progress was immediately noticeable and I ordered scleral lenses. Instead of worrying about the future of my life, I became much more optimistic. Presently, during good daylight, my visual acuity is almost “normal”. Gray days, and rainy days are more difficult than good daylight days but I still see better with my scleral lenses. I can still legally drive a car at night but I am reluctant to do so although my scleral lenses help.

Briefly, I went through a physically and emotionally demanding period after cataract and lasik surgery. I am very happy I learned about scleral lenses on the internet and the availability of a specialist in Edmonton. Dr. Tarabey, modern technology, and scleral lenses significantly improved my quality of life. In a sense, I am happy that I remained inquisitive during this difficult period. As a former researcher, I know that it is difficult to find a problem that has not been studied by someone somewhere before. This belief, my curiosity and desire to improve my situation led me to scleral lenses and Dr. Tarabey. I am grateful for his help.

Sorry for the late review. At first, I had difficulty finding what's appropriate with my Keratoconus problem. I tried so many different prescription glasses since I was diagnosed with it. Seeking expert opinion and professional care is my only option. I was referred by Dr. Bandali of Aspen Eye Care to Thompson Optics - Edmonton, because their the ones that could really help me with my problem. I was amazed by the services they had given me. Although erroneous appointment letter, they make it to the point that I got a check-up and had my lens fitting. After 2 weeks of waiting from the day of my initial check up. I received my new scleral lens, it was really amazing how I see the world now. It's clear and more lively than before. Guess what? I have my Vission test check by Dr. Tarabey, I regained my Perpect Vission. Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed! Thank you again for your services. God bless more power to Thompaon Optics.p

I've been visiting Thompson Optics for almost a year and I must say, I am extremely satisfied with their job! Dr. Tarabey and Dr. Jim are amazing guys and excellent professionals. They are incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns.

They fitted me with scleral lenses after having cross linking surgery in both my eyes. I would highly recommend getting scleral lenses for anyone with keratoconus.

The ladies at the front desk are also friendly and helpful every time I go for my appointments. Thank you for providing such outstanding service and care!

Been coming here for 7 years. Dr Tarabey is one of the greatest optometrists i’ve been to. Friendly and knowledgeable staff as well. Thank you Thompson Optics team!

Dr. Tarabey is second to none at what he does. Dr. Jomha and the associates at Lifetime EyeCare have collaborated with Dr. Tarabey on many complex cases that are outside of our expertise. The level of knowledge and ability to treat a wide range of visual disorders goes way beyond the strenuous training in Optometry school, which shows the dedication to his specialty. Dr. Tarabey is our go to when in need of advice and is the only person I would trust with my family if a complicated anterior segment visual impairment should arise.

I have been coming to Thompson Optics for about 20+ years for all of my eyeglasses - because of my prescription, I need a really good dispensing optician. This time I also had an exam by Dr. Moe Tarabey - who is excellent and knowledgeable.

I was helped with new glasses by Andrey - we had a short discussion about frames, he went over to the cabinet and picked out a couple of pairs, and the second pair were the ones. Usually this process takes me an hour - this time about 5 minutes. Frames are generally hard for me because the frame has to fit my face and also accommodate my lenses.

I am very pleased with my new glasses, and do not hesitate to recommend Thompson Optics.

Thank you to the Dr. Moe, Andrey, Jim and the rest of the Thompson Optics team!
