Service was awesome, we tried the Monk's Ceasar with vodka and gin, Clamdigger, Root Beer and Orange soda, and the Amaretto, and a couple of snacks, of course! Very nice and relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff and an all around good time!
Welcoming atmosphere and very clean. Family friendly at all times of the day. Loving getting the flights to try different seasonal beers! They do not have a kitchen but they do have great snacks that pair well with the beers.
We live in Edmonton and were at the liquor store looking for some bevvies. We decided to grab a case of Troubled Tea and wow! What an absolute gem! Real steeped iced tea, sweet but not overly sweet, and just a bit of a fizz factor to it. Super tasty and refreshing I was not disappointed I am now a super fan! Thank you!
Worst beer ever tasted. I am not a hard to please person I have tried some of the cheapest beers known to man and enjoyed them. But somehow the troubled monk beer I tried at quadruple the price of cheap mass produced beer is magnitudes worse. Maybe I got a bad batch, but not going to bother trying again.
We love coming here all year round, but especially after a long bike ride in the summer with the kids. The kids love the root beer and ginger ale, hubby loves the ‘pesky pig’, I love the yuzu tea and when in season ‘the crown fits’. Great atmosphere, and the servers are wonderful even greeting us by name lol doing a great job guys!
Love their Saskatoon pop so much I drove 4 hours to get some. Mix it with a couple shots of vodka for the best cooler I have ever had. It is hands down my favourite and my preferred drink for weekend fun. Would recommend it to everyone
The staff is always great, the beer is always good. The patio is amazing in the warmer months. Inside can be a little crowded at the busy times, and a slight maze to get around. But I've never had a bad time at The Monk.
Stopped there on our way down to Calgary for some drinks - great beer and a nice location sure made that the right call. The service was right on par, too. Plus, the "The Knights who say NE (IPA) " is just the best beer name ever!
This brewery is great. I've been here on the patio for beer before and have been buying beer from them for a few years now. The staff is knowledgable on their products and friendly. They make some great beer (Juicy Gossip is my favorite) and their gin is also good.
Went in last Thursday morning to pick up a fundraiser donation. Figured I may as well grab a few beverages for myself. The staff member was very friendly and knowledgeable about the products. I especially liked the hard iced tea!
Amazing brewery quality! From ales to dark, stout or even their new vodka.enjoy a cheese plate or nuts and bolts homemade at Christmas. Great place to spend a Sunday which is what this tour guide is doing. Or anytime of the week.psst.rumour has it, it's the best patio in summer too for the beer lover.
So disappointing a great local business decided to be so political. Treats staff horribly and I won’t support them anymore and recommend everyone else to reevaluate and support another local business instead. Keep your head in the beer business and out of politics absolutely unreal the things I’ve experienced and seen when visiting here lately. I loved the tea and used to come in once a week for a case. But the staff have been complaining to customers about vaccines and how they want it forced on people! Berating and humiliating anyone who didn’t have a mask on even when exempt. Saying they can’t sell products to people who aren’t vaccinated who aren’t even dining in! Don’t lie and say you have to because I’ve gone to other places and checked and they don’t have to do it that’s a political choice they are making! Completely unprofessional and i’d say more but they know what they are doing behind the scenes too, totally dehumanizing people is not okay!
Walked into the bar to buy a case of Troubled Tea. Wasn't even planning on staying, just grab and go. I was literally standing at the till ready to pay (so what's another 30 seconds. I was already there and touched the box) and was illegally asked for proof of vaccination. I was told they could follow me outside and I could pay outside. Missed the point. I can go buy your booze at a liquor store without meeding proof of vax but I can't in your shop? I am appalled that a local business would do this as they rely on locals to run their business, not the government. Unfortunate as I made weekly trips there to purchase but will not be any longer, even when the restrictions are over. Guess it's time to find a different favorite drink, even if I can buy it at other liquor stores. Beyond disappointed. I gave 1 star because I genuinely love the Teas but if I could give zero, I would
I have been ordering online for most of the pandemic. I have gotten a great deal of my family and friends ordering in Edmonton.however I jump at the opportunity to stop in Red Deer to sit on the patio and enjoy the atmosphere! Great job by the Troubled Monk staff on creating great products and maintaining great quality!
I enjoy driving from Edmonton just for the experience!
Our family had a very enjoyable time at the Troubled Monk. We had a couple flights of beer each and was able to try beers from their Full Time and Seasonal brews. Our favourites, after having tried most of the brews, were: Golden Gaetz, Pesky Pig, Open Road, and Troubled Tea. These four were so good that we bought them to take home. Kid friendly and fabulous service! If we lived in Red Deer, we’d be regulars!
Had a huge group and had a lovely time! Servers were a bit unorganized but recommended we all order pitchers so we did! Drinks were delicious. At one point, a server brought a pitcher and said "on the house! " but then realized it was actually someone's order. In the end, we paid for an extra pitcher. I asked to buy a glass that was normally $10 with a fill, they still said it was $10 without the fill. The brewery tour was great; hopefully you get Bud to guide you. We got to taste brews that weren't released yet. There was a food truck there serving good burgers but the staff were mostly clueless. We bought a lot of beers and left mostly happy.
Quick and easy delivery to Edmonton, great customer service, and even better beers and gin. Love the Buck Tooth Belgian White! One of my favorite microbreweries.
Great place for a pint (or 2.or 3) always coming up with innovative new beers and they have a funky style. Come support these awesome folks on the patio or by grabbing a 4pack to go.
Didn't get to sit on the patio this time, enjoyed the beverages all the same. They do have a fantastic patio, a huge tap room, and the location near the bike paths make it a hot spot for local bikers.
Great beer, great staff, great atmosphere. Both Jamie and London are friendly and fantastic at running the floor and providing top notch hospitality. One of the very best spots in Red Deer.
I had high hopes for Troubled Monk as i have heard a lot of good things. We went and had a beer and some snacks, it was quite underwhelming. The beer was okay but the snacks were.not. We ordered the beer cheese and pita chips. The pita chips came out in a brown paper bag and the beer cheese came out in plastic wrap like something you would buy at the gas station (pictured below). Maybe this was because of Covid-19 protocols? If so, I would suggest just not offering these items at all. The service was fine and the patio looked cute however there are much better options in the area and I will not be returning.
This company is truly amazing from their staff to all the amazing products they have. They are always coming out with such amazing flavors also they were the first local company that jumped into action when we were in need of hand sanitizer.
Troubled Monk has been a huge driver of Craft Beer in our community and beyond. I enjoy their variety, and wish them all the best. Their taproom team is always super friendly. I like going on Taco Tuesdays in the summer when Taco Monster is serving.: D
Troubled Monk is one of those rare breweries where I am excited to try something new from them. While I've never found it difficult to get a 'good beer' from any brewery that I've tried out, TM just sets the bar a little higher because EVERY beer that I've tried from them had been delicious, well made, and stands out from the crowd.
I was lucky enough to get a 4 pack of the Neapolitan Complex before it sold out, and am really enjoying the Sea Serpent strong IPA as well, but I think my favorite is still the Juicy Gossip.
Honestly really just subpar. Tried 90% of the beers they have at this point and they all taste the same, like a dressed up can of Coors Light. Plus the Brewery has a poor attitude towards their customers, they’re more interested in quantity over quality. With so many new and better options in the Red Deer area, turns out tenure doesn’t always mean better.
This is such a great brewery. We were only passing through and I would have loved to stay and eat but we didn’t have time. The beer is great, our servers were friendly and the vibe of the place is awesome. For sure worth checking out!
Small place with great service! And great beer! Staff is always friendly. I love their new outside seating options. They often have new selection of beer. Parking lot is a bit small, but the place is often packed as well. Love visiting here!
I stopped in today for my first visit. I bought two Raspberry beer 4 packs. Returned home and tried one. Long story short I wasn’t a fan of the taste. Called them back and explained the situation and asked if they would allow me to exchange the unopened 4 pack for another kind that would be more to my liking. Their initial answer was a no. I.can understand this. Their best solution at the time was maybe I could gift it to someone instead. I was hoping for better customer service as a new customer and resigned myself to this being an “experience to learn from”. I decided I would write a brief review of my situation online with a request to speak with the Owner or Manager about the issue. Happy to discuss a resolution to this issue if they are willing to reach out to me.
UPDATE:
The owner Charlie reached out to me within the hour and personally invited me to the brewery to meet with him and see how we could make things right. We met. Sat down and he listened to what kind of beers interest me. He then ordered a sampler with all his product and even the colour changing epitaph gin. With each beer he gave me a detailed explanation of each with what I could expect and how it was crafted. I learned I really liked the New England IPA and the Open Road Stout.
I was really pleased with my experience overall and the fact that the owner took time to sit with a new customer and understand their needs and help satisfy them. Thank you Troubled Monk! Great work. Great staff. Great operation!
Easily my favourite Micro Brewery for Red Deer. I really enjoy the Pesky Pig and highly recommend trying the various little snacks they have available.
Amazing atmosphere. Great beer. Hidden away near the river in downtown Red Deer. I bought a growler of their "Open Road" and wasn't disapointed. Highly recommended.
This is the place to go if you like real beer. Not talking about light beer but really beer with real flavour. Consider spending some money and book a tour and tasting event of product brewed on premise. We had 9 in our group and everyone had found a beer they loved.an evening well spent.
