Very nice campsite! Very friendly stuff and very clean:) Nice warm/hot showers, warm outdoor sink for washing dishes, clean toilets and enough garbage bins:) Lots of firewood and each spot has a fire pit and a picnic table as well:)
As a person that goes camping at least once per month during the summer, i Loved this campsite for many reasons. First i was thinking to rent a hotel but once i saw the prices i gave camping a chance. To my surprise this worked out better than i thought because i got to stay in Banff so got two hikes done in two days. So price and location so far so good. The campsites are spacious and there’s shower and water which is better than any campsite I’ve been to but i can only compare to provincial and private campgrounds. First time in a national park campsite and definitely should be part of the experience. Just dont make my mistake and bring an air mattress that doesn’t have a hole:)
I've camped here twice and I won't be going back again. It's a nice campsite with many spots and good access to the local area, but it is managed very poorly. Two camping trips, 1 in 2021 and 1 in 2019. Both ruined by people on the campsite, but what makes it worse is you need to police it yourself. If you call Canada Parks they're not interested AT ALL. 2019 we had people playing music extremely loud until 2am, multiple sites reported, zero action until a group got together and confronted them. 2021 we passed a fire just south/east of Canmore and there was a fire ban in effect. There were fires all over the campsite, some were propane which is apparently allowed but some were definitely wood. Again Canada parks were not interested. When you consider you're camping INSIDE a forest, it seems pretty high risk to allow fires all over the place especially when the Canmore fire burned 24 acres in 2 hours that same day!
The lack of trees around your campsite makes any sort of privacy next to none. You are aswell not allowed to consume alcohol over long weekends within the camp grounds to keep it "kid friendly" but the amount of screaming kids riding their bikes near and sometimes through your site makes the $12 cab ride into town worth it to find the nearest bar.
This campground is perfect for families and the facilities are very clean. It has washrooms and showers. Very well located, really close to Banff town. There's a nice trail to the town and a viewpoint for the hoodoos!
Good location close to Banff. Be sure to look closely at the photos of the site you're reserving as many are quite small with little to no flat space for a tent.
If you like calmness this will be your place! But if you like calmness plus luxury then go find them elsewhere! There are rules that will make you feel like your are in a barracks! This is my first time here and I don’t really like it! It is the worst campground ️ I have visited! You can’t even use the power generator freely, very weird rules! No wifi, no electricity! I heard the power generator running out of schedule and the security never intervened but they came to ask us to turn ours off after an extra half an hour of use while we were having breakfast!
This is the main tenting campground in Banff. The sites are pretty close together and don't offer a ton of privacy. There are tons of families with children here most of Summer, so don't expect a quiet stay here. Most sites have fire pits and firewood is free, but they've recently started barricading the firewood off so that you have to park and walk about 50 meters to the wood pile. It's a bit of a pain, but I imagine it's so that people don't take more wood than they need. Bathrooms/showers get pretty busy at night and there's only 2 showers in each loop. Most of the tent pads are not great - it's almost impossible to drive a stake into the ground without hitting a rock. They're also gravel pads, so be sure to bring a footprint/tarp if you're worried about the floor of your tent.
Enjoyed camping twice here. Great to camp, just 6minutes drive to Banff. Some sites are really nice and full of privacy surrounded with lots of trees. Giving it four stars because during this pandemic time there is no hands free taps and flush in washrooms.
Tunnel Mountain park is a great home base to explore Banff & area. The facilities are well kept and clean. We’ve stayed here many times and never had to deal with people being loud or partying.
An amazing front-country camping ground located by beautiful Banff city. The washrooms are clean and very well maintained. Also as you are not permitted to bring firewood that does not belong to this area, you are provided with free firewood.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is this is a campground within the city limits of Banff. We stayed in campground C and we were on top of our neighbour's in a parking lot with trees style of campground. We expected this going into our stay but it is still something to note. The camp spots are also small. We just fit our truck, tent and chairs into our spot with little room for anything else. The women's bathrooms were also dirty everytime I went in. I saw staff cleaning them but with the sheer volume of people using them it was hard to keep them clean. The campground is nice for a basecamp while exploring Banff and the surrounding area. Just keep in mind that this is city camping.
Amazing campground! Very clean and quiet, decently spaced out tent sites. If you get a site in the edge of the grounds it’s quite private. Shower house is excellent. I would recommend this campground.
Cramped, overcrowded but cheap with well maintained facilities.look elsewhere if you wish an electric connection and avoid prying eyes, loud noises at night, etc.
Lovely site and well maintained! Washrooms have hot showers and there's an industrial sink to wash your dishes in. Another bonus is the shuttle bus that can take you into town (every 30mins)
Clean, well kept, and awesome bathroom facility. I loved the large sink to wash dishes just outside the bathroom building, having hot water available there was a huge luxury!
Hello, I would like very much to be able to get in touch with the person in charge. It is that I want to buy an area of land with mountains. And if possible, I would count on your attention. Graciously. Whatsapp +55 (34) 98421-5854 Diego Mota
Beautiful campsite, very large campground in general, nice to bike around. Stayed in a 24’ RV in trailer court, good amount of space but wasn’t allowed a campfire. The site itself is very close to Banff proper but quite elevated, didn’t even try to bike down there for fear of having to climb back up! There is a public bus that comes though, and the walk would probably be easier than biking.
Three stars mainly because the train comes through SO LOUD all hours of the night!
Great place to camp. Very well lay out. We called during the Covid. Showers are closed. I do not understand how toilets can be open during covid but not the showers. The soap would wash away virus and keep everyone cleaner
Good food lockers, amazing setup, close drive to town.good space between sites and amazing views! Wish the firepit was flat so our eggs wouldn’t fly off into the flames
Very clean washrooms, showers were closed when we stayed here in Sept 2020 due to COVID. Park staff were attentive and grounds are very well kept. Located close to the town, it’s easy to get anywhere! My only complaint is the train horns that blare at all hours of the day and night. Just keep that in mind if you’re a light sleeper. Me, I can sleep through anything, so it didn’t really bother me.
You need to be prepared for what Banff campgrounds have become, which is an attempt to provide a 'backyard mountain experience' with a thousand other people and millions of dollars worth of RV's. Given that, they do a great job - it's not inexpensive to camp there and you need to book well in advance, but the staff are great, there's lots of firewood and you're close to everything in Banff.
If you're not familiar with the different Banff campgrounds, I think this is the 'older' campground and has firepits, larger sites, and is more of a 'real' camping experience, but you don't have full hookup options. Good walking and biking trails - you can bike right into the township from here.
The campsite is very well equipped and very well organised. The trouble we had was with very compacted sites so we couldn't drive our tent pegs into the ground. Also, while we were lugging our stuff from one site to try another, our toiletries bag got taken away by the staff as it was a bear attractant, and I had to drive back to the front both to pick it back up - even though I had just driven there to get a different campsite so it just felt humiliating. I understand that this is good practice and good for wildlife, but the timing was unfortunate so we were left seething. We definitely feel that tent-only spaces are needed in this campsite, which would have softer ground and be meant specifically for tents.
Great campground. Things were clean and I didn't feel good close to the neighboring sites. I think that was due to a lot of trees. There was another "loop" of the campground behind us and other than the one group being somewhat loud at one point, I never noticed them. You couldn't see their tents or anything. Make sure you check the Canadian holidays before you book. We found out that there was a complete alcohol ban in the park for that weekend and apparently that's what they do on all holiday weekends.
A beautiful campground close to the Banff townsite and other tourist attractions. It's clean, quiet, and most sites offer quite a bit of privacy. Free firewood is a huge bonus, and the washrooms are clean and well kept. My only issue is that this year I found the showers to be turning themselves off after far too short an interval. In past years, I only had to press the spray button once every 30 seconds to 1 minute. This week I had to press it nearly every 5 seconds, which was really annoying. I understand the need to conserve water, but this was a little on the ridiculous side. That said, the programming at the amphitheater is always nice, and it was great to see a conservation officer coming around to talk to everyone about the wildlife in the area. I highly recommend it, but please find a happy middle ground for the shower issue!
Very friendly staff and nice population of campers to share the site with. Bathrooms were kept clean but the showers leave much to be desired (flimsy curtains, difficult to get your feet clean/dry at the end of a shower). Didn't come across any bears but we were given ample warning about them. When we saw the black bears in other nearby locations though they seemed pretty tame, just let them be and keep safe distance especially when they have cubs, and they will very likely let you be too.
We usually stay here for a couple nights on the way back from Penticton every summer and always enjoy our time here. Sites are large and surrounded by trees in most sites. Just review the online photos to confirm it is what you are looking for. Disappointed we could not have fires due to the fire ban but would rather deal with that then have someone burn down this beautiful forest. There is no park for the kids which would be nice but they do put on informative shows in the amphitheater to teach them about nature. Tons of trails for hiking and riding and close to town if shopping is your thing. Enjoy.
Nice location in Banff! Great access to the town and only an hour's drive from many popular lakes such as Louise, Moraine, Bow, and Peyto.
The reason for the 4 star review is purely for the amenities. While it has shower facilities, dish washing facilities, and flush toilets, they are undeniably dated compared to those one can find in other parks, particularly those in BC. They are not bad by any means, but they could be better.
Overall, this campground is an excellent base of operations to plan your trips around Banff!
