I strongly recommend you have a decent knowledge of used vinyl prices before you go here. The mark-up on some of their "grails" is ridiculous. Although now it looks like they price-match on new records (you're gonna need to do that) the prices are 25% higher than everywhere else in the city. Vast majority of used records are overpriced. Lots of other shops in the city that don't operate on the pawn shop rip-off model.
Great selection. Very cool building, I love the different rooms and the bargain basement area. I found a few cool records and CDs there. I can't wait to go back when I have a lot more time to search through the entire store.
I was very impressed with the selection of LP’s, tapes, and CD’s available at this location. My girlfriend and I got our first record player for Christmas, and being new to the game, we were completely lost. The woman working, despite being the only employee present, and the store being busy, still took the time to talk to us about what to look for when examining used records, to check if they had anything from a very specific indie artist my girlfriend is into, and to discuss storage and general maintenance with us. The prices certainly weren’t cheap, but from my very limited knowledge on the subject, none of albums I bought cost more than they would have if I’d bought them off of Amazon or Sunrise/HMV.
Awesome experience. Tons of vinyl, CDs, cassettes, equipment and speakers used and new. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful. Found dozens of albums I had been looking for and hadn't been able to find. Prices were good and condition of the used stuff was very good
Great staff and great selection of records, however.when I was checking out I felt like the girl at the till was pushing me to buy more then I wanted. When I said I can't afford it they said that it was an impossible find and continued trying to "enthusiastically" push me into the purchase.
I didn't buy it but when I went home I checked the album I had bought from them on discogs, and a sealed version online was $20 cheaper including shipping. I understand the support of local business but it felt like I was a little too overcharged for it.
Hoping it was just something that happened to me, and I would still go back. But be weary of the sales techniques. If you like wax it is positively a cool place to check out, huge selection.
Really cool little hole in the wall record shop. Huge selection. New and used. My favorite record store in Calgary, great staff and some hard to find records!
This is easily the best record store in our city great prices great stuff and great selection lots of good used electronics beautiful vintage gear one of my favorite places to shop
A great place to find vintage vinyl and hi-fi equipment. I have been on a cassette kick lately and have found some nice additions to my collection here. This place has a great vibe.
This place is Amazing, they have every record out there and if not they 'll find it for you. It is very well organized and clean. Their customer service is always Fantastic. All staff is very knowledgeable in all genres of music. I just love going in there. Great job Turn it Up! See you real soon.
If you are interested in checking out a store with ridiculously overpriced vinyl, vintage audio gear and unfriendly staff; then this is the place for you.
Definitely not worth the time or effort to visit. Staff are not cool. Some Weirdo dweeb with a douchey beard behind the counter wasn’t bothered at all that there were customers in the store.
This place takes the crown of worst vinyl shop in town from the old retro store. Records priced at $26 / 27 dollars that can be had for $15 and less elsewhere.
Another great record store in Calgary. I don't usually venture north but I had to check them out and am glad I did. Tons to look through and they also carry stereo equipment. I'd recommend checking out every room even the bargain basement (which usually I don't bother with at record stores) gave me a find.
This is one of those rare record shops with a great collection of vintage finds and staff who know their music history (and are willing to share it). Post Punk, Metal, and Jazz are my go to. No snobbery here, legit passion shop.
If you’re looking for a local record shop or coming from out of town, hit this shop up.
Unfortunately I arrived 15 minutes before closing so I have not had a full opportunity to explore. But the interesting selection of vinyl in the front room alone got me excited like a kid in a candy store. I look forward to visiting earlier in the day.
Knowledgeable, friendly, and patient staff. Answered all of my questions and helped me to get set up with an unusual system. Reasonable prices, considering everything is completely services before selling. Nice selection of records and fair prices! I will go back for sure! Highly recommend!
Blown away with this stores selection and quantity. Great categorization and super friendly staff! Didn’t give myself enough time.will be back to sort through!
Enormous selection of rock/punk/metal both contemporary and classic, and jazz, large selection of hip hop. Very small selection of electronic and dance music with very few contemporary LPs and 12"s hence the 4/5.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Not very wheelchair friendly but the building is very old.
They don't intact with their potential customers. It's like they have something better to do, even if you are the only customer in the store. Fun bunch.
Great store and staff. I have found and seen some items that I find interesting and would be hard to find. Great main area that covers all the bases for new and used, nice bargain basement and CD cassette area. I'm not a real audophile but they appear to have some nice items in that category.
Personally, I would like to thank the owner for returning from a trip with The Cult - Electric and Sonic Temple. I came in the day after they were put out on the floor and thankfully they were still there waiting for me. Thank you. These are like gold to me.
I tend to stick with familiar artists when it comes to shopping for records, and whilst they are fantastic, it made listening to vinyls a bit dreary. Reading the little sticky notes on vinyls at your shop helped me venture out, and it was a delight. Thanks!
Interesting store but expect a good helping of attitude from punks who weren't even born when most of the stuff they sell came out (I am). The snobbery is brutal.
These guys have a good selection of records, covering all different genres, however the prices are a bit high. The staff are decent and usually keep to themselves which is nice in some cases but could maybe be a bit more active if a customer appears to need some assistance. Overall a decent spot with lots of variety.
All staff have been very helpful when I’m looking for certain albums. Zach was great and took Time explaining my new turntable purchase to me and helping me understand what to look for when purchasing styluses and cartridges for my turntable. I just started to go to this Record store and have found it to be very customer friendly and they have a great selection, which is always changing, so I need to visit the store often as there are many great finds to be had there!
Fun place to find albums, I was surprised to discover several small rooms both upstairs and down full of all kinds of music and music formats. Everything is well organized by genre, even the miscellaneous record sections are sorted alphabetically! My only criticism is that I found the used albums to be a little over-priced, but overall a great vinyl store.
*This review pertains to a specific employee from the old location who now works at this one. I never had a problem with any of the guys at this store. * I have had many problems with this company and everyone I talk to always gives me similar horror stories. Had one record sold as "first press in shrink" which turned out to be a RESEALED SECOND PRESS with a destroyed record inside. They refused to take it back. Had a record sold with the wrong record in the sleeve. Again they refused to take it back. And these weren't cheap purchases. $150 and $40 respectively. When they had a dollar bin sale they refused to sell me records marked at $1 because they were "worth more than that".
Truly unfortunate they put up with employees like that given a lot of the other guys who worked there have been nothing but kind to me.
