I will start this off by saying that the receptionists are amazing and incredibly helpful. Other than that, the experience is absolutely terrible. I went in for a cavity filling and was left for 25 minutes with a guard in my mouth and my jaw stuck open. Nobody so much as let me know what was going on or checked on me. 25 minutes unable to talk and no idea how long before they remembered I was there. I didn't have any anxiety problems surrounding the dentist before, but I definitely do now.

Edit: I got a call after posting this review and they apologized profusely, saying that that was not the standard they hoped to set. I explained that I was not sure whether I'd be comfortable ever going back to udental and they were very understanding and put a note on my account so if I ever went back, I would be seen by the owner and the owners assistant to ensure the quality of my care. It doesn't make up for my horrible experience, but better than nothing.

Dr. Iyad and Emily have been incredible. I have been terrified of th dentist and have not been in a long long time. They were very kind and reassuring that everything would be ok. I had some extractions and the needle for freezing hurt so bad and I was so scared and I couldn’t stop shaking. Emily took a minute and had Dr. Iyad wait before doing the extractions and talked to me to distract and comfort me. I have been there three times since all within a few months and I’m not as scared as I used to be and my smile is getting better and better. Thank you so much!

I went a repair on a broken tooth and needed a crown. Dr. Iyad was very kind and careful throughout the entire process. He is extremely meticulous with everything he does. I also wanted to mention all the assistants as they have done a great job keeping me comfortable. I highly recommend visiting this dental clinic.

This is my very best experience of a dental care ever. Such a high quality of the work they are doing, and the results are beyond any of my expectations. I was mostly impressed the way clinic treats people, all the questions I had and any help I required was provided quick and accurate, exactly what I needed. A total blessing for me I ended up being treated at Udentalclinic, strongly recommend to visit and have a treatment there. I would also like to highlight Dr Jassar, an amazing specialist who is the best dentist I have ever met, but also kind, nice and will leave you no room to believe there is no humanity in this world, by the way she treats her patients in all aspects, dental assistant Kam deserves a special gratitude for the great job she is doing, and Sue, operator at the reception, who was an incredible person to me in terms of communication, providing vital information, being absolutely friendly and helpful all the time.

Good fast services with affordable prices and good support for insurance. My insurance had some issues with their submission and when I went back they helped solve the problem right away. If you’re a student I recommend visiting this clinic instead of wasting your time going to one off campus

Well if I could give Dr Iyad and his team 10 stars I would. Had a bridge done and was in tears at how happy I was. I was quoted 5 times the amount at a city dentist. Would highly recommend any day of the week.

My wisdom teeth have been bothering me for awhile so I thought it would best to get them checked out. I saw the dentist for a consultation and they were able to book me in the next week to have them removed. The process was pain free and fairly quick. Healing took some time but I'm feeling much better now. I will be returning!

I love this clinic and I will never go anywhere else. I've only ever had bad experiences at the dentist in previous clinics. At this clinic the hygienist was very nice and gentle on my gums. Usually my gums bleed but this time they hardly bled at all. The dentist was so caring and took great care of me for my visit. The lady at the front desk explained everything and I was able to direct bill my insurance so I didn't have to pay anything. I will be a patient here forever.

This place is seriously excellent, Dentists and staff are very nice and relaxed. They explained my visit as well as all the steps. I was surprised after reading some "bad reviews". I phoned and I asked reception, she explained its "fake reviews from previous owners"
I had my doubts. I decided to go in and decide for myself, after all they are on campus and there fees are the cheapest in the area
They took pictures of all my teeth and showed me "why" the work is needed.surprisingly, my own dentist in BC never took the time before to explain my exam in this way. (and it was all covered by student union network)

The staff here from all departments are so kind, friendly and helpful! No matter how busy, they always take their time with you. I’m also so thankful for the student discount!

The lady at the front desk who picks up the call is very unpleasant to speak to. She often speaks to you in a harsh tone. The other receptionist that used to work there with Dr. Nina was way nicer!

Such an amazing experience! Dr. Intas and Eunice were so kind and thoughtful! They did an excellent job and explained everything I needed to know so well!

I’m missing my front tooth and asked to get it fixed, a year later and they’ve used me as a Guinea pig and pulled a bunch of teeth out of me for practice for their students and I’m not one step closer to having my front tooth fixed. I feel like I was just manipulated and used. I can only chew out of one side of my mouth now. I don’t think they actually care about their patients at all.

I've never felt so connected to my dental health because of how thorough they are in explaining exactly what is going on, and what they're looking at. On top of that, appointments are quick, flexible, and make dealing with insurance easy.

Dr. Iyad is possibly the most skilled doctor I have ever encountered. He has performed 2 root canals, 3 fillings and one extraction on me and I barely felt a pinch in any of these instances. I have severe anxiety surrounding dental visits and he went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and took time to explain every step of the procedure. I cannot recommend Dr. Iyad highly enough. He prioritizes the health and comfort of the patient like no other dentist I have had.

Very good experience! I learned lots of good tips to further my habits of maintaining a good dental hygiene. It feels like you’re being very thoroughly taken care of.

Exceptional experience as always. Staff maintain a warm and welcome environment. My last appointment I had misread the time and showed up half an hour late, but the staff squeeze me in and with great efficiency finished my appointment on time. The clinic definitely values client care as much as the value oral hygiene!

The staff are knowledgeable and precise in all things about oral hygiene. They all treat patients with respect and care and I always leave with squeaky clean teeth that I can't stop running my tongue over lol! So far every hygienist has been lovely. They also have modern equipment and techniques.
My dental examination was amazing with Dr. Iyad! He made sure I understood exactly what he meant and even shared some interesting information about dental research. He made helpful suggestions for better oral hygiene and recommendations to keep in mind.

I had 6 fillings done today with Dr. Lyad and assistant Emily. It was such a lovely experience. I am typically very afraid of the dentist but this was pain-free, quick (under an hour) and they both were so kind and supportive the whole way through.

Awesome place with great staff! Been there a few times and have had no problems. Got my wisdom tooth removed and it was quick and easy with no pain! I also have had cleanings in the past that hurt but here they’re great! Highly recommend.

This dental office is excellent for student at UoA. They are super friendly and patient. For insurance, student only need to take their oneCard. And they try to keep the cost minimum for you.

I will recommend this dentist office to everyone! I have been trying to find a good dentist to do my root canal, I went in for a consultation and Dr. Iyad did my root canal right away and made a treatment plan for me as I still need some more work done on that tooth since the infection got quite bad. I was able to see before and after pictures of the x rays, he explained everything to me in detail every step of the way. He made me feel like part of their family and him and his assistant made me comfortable and kept me relaxed every step of the way! 100% recommend! I went through a month of dental treatment at the Smiles Dental University of Alberta. I was extremely pleased with the service at a much needed time, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Neetasha and Dr. Iyad treated me with respect, were very gentle in administering the treatments, and worked fast and effectively. The support staff, including the front door receptionist and the dental assistants, made me feel comfortable and welcome. Additionally, the convenience of the location in VVC, the ease of booking appointments, and the clean, well-equipped space added to the quality of my experience.

All in all, I highly recommend this clinic for U of A students and staff.

If you read the reviews here, the staff are very polite, the place is kept really clean, the equipment looks to be in really good shape, you can even watch Netflix while you get your fillings done, and the nice girl will even pull the chair out when you go to pay your bill. It’s all true, but what about their quality of work or their ethics?

When I went in on Jan 8th (a few months ago) to get a filling done, I had the worst experience ever. The filling that they did was so bad, that I went in for 2 bite adjustments here and about 7 more bite adjustments at their Kingsway location, and they still couldn’t figure it out! My bite got so bad that I had to get a nightguard to deal with the heavy bruxism while I sleep (which they handily made $600). My right masseter is now over developed, I have TMD, and sensitive teeth. All of which I never had previously. I now wake up with my jaw clenched at full force.

After some time, I realized that since I came to this clinic, half of my molars have fillings in them. I've never been prescribed so many fillings at any one clinic. They'll give a very convincing presentation showing you photos and x-rays of your teeth, explaining why it’s so urgent for you to get fillings. Even if you have a healthy diet and you brush and floss your teeth every day, they will weasel out an excuse, like “genetics”.

I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but here’s where things got sketchy:

When I asked them for all the x-rays that they did to verify that the work they did was needed, and the names of the dentists that did them, they have ignored me. I’ve asked them twice, and followed up with them twice, and gotten my new dentist to retrieve them. To no avail, it’s been month and a half, and they haven’t responded. Why are they so scared of sending me my records? I still have the emails if anyone wants to see them.

If you are reading this, know that it is your legal right for you to have all your dental records. What they are doing is ILLEGAL. I have reached out to the Alberta Dental Association and College for help in dealing with them. If you have gone to this clinic or any of their branches, I dare you to try to get your full records from them and tell them you want to verify that the work they did on you was needed!

I have been going to the UofA Smiles Dental Clinic for almost 5 years now and every visit has been excellent. Very friendly and professional staff. Highly recommended!

Five stars all the way! Amazingly friendly and welcoming staff. They explain everything very clearly. Shout out to the wonderful hygienists who gave me my smile back! Best cleaning I've ever had. My dentist was awesome. I wasn't sure about getting fillings but they made feel very comfortable and the whole process was quick and painless. I'm definitely coming back for regular checkups. So glad that the clinic is on campus.

I have been impressed with this office and the care I received. It's no problem using your student insurance and any extra charges are explained up front. Everyone is really friendly and makes sure you are as comfortable as possible. I even like how you can text to set up appointments. Makes it so easy!

Today I had finished my treatment at this office. I am not that kind of person who would write a review after a good or bad service, but I felt that this is the least I can do today. I highly recommend this place. Very professional, caring and students friendly as I call it.
I started there after a friend had recommended them to me. I had no idea what we are covered for as students. I was always afraid to check them out as I cannot afford big bills for dentists. The receptionist explained to me what is the coverage for an undergrad. She also explained to me how to use my insurance wisely to get the most out of it without getting unnecessary addons. I booked my first dental cleaning and check up in couple years.
I went to my appointment excited and my experience there was second to none. Before starting anything, the receptionist explained to me what they are doing today and how much I will use from my insurance. She knew I was on a tight budget and I had some work to be done. I wanted to use it as careful as possible. To be honest I shopped around a little and asked couple friends, and their student pricing was actually the best deal you can get anywhere.
I had a wonderful experience getting my teeth cleaned. It felt good to lose all that build up that I could not brush off. The hygienist also polished my teeth to remove the bad coffee stains that I had. She took the time to explain to me how to brush and floss properly without hurting my gums every time.
The dental exam was the stressful part for me, but the dentist made it so friendly and comfortable. They understand that they are dealing with students with very limited resources. The dentist made me a plan and prioritized the steps for me. Some stuff were urgent and needed to be taken care of right away. Their student pricing made it really reasonable and affordable.
I had 4 visits over the last 3 months. Today my treatment is completed and I am so grateful that I found this place. They made me feel comfortable. They never made me feel that they are annoyed from my silly questions. They really took care of me. Today the least I can do it to tell others about my experience there.

Came for an emergency when no one else would take me, I’m very afraid of dentists but they were so kind and accepting and helpful, truly a great emphasis on patient care from Dr. Martin and her team!

Let m start by saying what an amazing experience especially when you are so scared of dentists
the whole team was very relaxed and comforting. I went in because i needed to check out a broken tooth. It turns out i needed a filling and then a crown to cover the whole tooth. Dr Iyad explained the situation in simple terms and showed me on camera (on TV) my own teeth.after freezing and doing the rubber isolation, i, I could not believe we were done, This was like a dream.

Love the positive atmosphere at this place. Always calm and relaxing.staff are always busy and still manage to get me seen on time.same staff and consistent dental experience.
I searched the prices, they are the only office that "actually" follow the student union fees, Every other office in the area adds extra billings.my best friend went to one off campus, and now she is stuck with a bill for 157.93 dollars (reg.cleaning and checkup)
me, I am fully covered just 15 dollars (because I needed extra cleaning, bad genetics I guess)

Very excellent services and educational experience! I took my kid two weeks ago for her regular cleaning, hygienist was awesome she taught my kid the proper way to clean her teeth and showed her some techniques. I was surprised that my kid is applying what she had learned by the hygienist at home when brushing her teeth, she also said this is the best experience she had at a dental office! I was confused at the beginning looking for the right office, because there are two university dental offices. The lady at the front said people sometimes mix up between them. But I loved that my kid was comfortable and happy with the visit and for sure coming back!

Competent services, but poor follow-up. I've been waiting 2 months to get a follow-up call for a root canal I need, which they said would take a week.

Conclusion: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE before it's too late! They trick patients to do more filling than they need (read other bad review!). If you change to another dental place, it is almost impossible to obtain your panoramic x-ray image from them！！！！！The panoramic is covered once every THREE years by UofA student insurance, be careful! If it is too late and you did visit this place. You can always make a complaint to Alberta dental college.

About two years ago, I became a master student of U of A and I just moved to Edmonton. I was totally new to this city. Since this place is on campus, I went for convenience. I got check up (including two X-ray) and cleaning. It took almost all of my insurance coverage. I was told by the dentist that I had a filling was no longer good, I should redo the filling. Since I did not want to pay out of my pocket, I decided not to book a new appointment until I have enough coverage. The following year, I no longer lived near campus, so I went to another dental. The new dentist told me all my old filling were good, I didn't need to redo any filling. Also they need to see my panoramic. However, both my new dentist and myself tried to contact Smiles, none of us could get it. My insurance paid for the panoramic, I don't know why I cannot have it. Smiles dental never said no to the x-ray release. They just never reply the email!

Disrespectful employees and crazy prices! They know you have insurance and charge insanely. You will find much better deals off campus for sure.

Our family has been going to this clinic for 3 years. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. I have young children who have always been treated well. The hygienists do a great job helping the kids have a good experience. For me the only downside is that parking around the University is inconvenient +/- expensive if you don't already have a permit there. If you are already at the University or taking public transit, then this would not be a problem.
