We always have a lovely experience at the Varscona theatre. It's an intimate theatre with comfy seats. The seating is "general, " so it's best to arrive early if you have specific spots you like to sit. The stairs to higher seating do have handlebars on each aisle. They have in-house washrooms and a concession area, where you can purchase snacks, drinks, and booze to enjoy during the show. Paid parking is available in the neighborhood lots (Strathcona farmers market lot, etc.) or street parking if you can find it. Handicapped/disability seating in the theatre is front row standard chairs off to the sides that can be removed to accommodate a wheelchair etc. The theatre seats have arm rests that do not move up/down. They can be uncomfortable for some people larger than a plusize 20/22. We love the creative work that Varscona showcases from various theatre companies.
First time coming here for date night. Great intimate theater. Front row seats are 2 feet from the stage. Place seemed clean and in good repair despite its age.
Went to see a play tonight with friends. I love that the theatre itself is small so every seat is great. Additionally they have a small concession but the prices are great. Thoroughly enjoyed it. You can also purchase a combined meal and play ticket and prices are desireable. We'll worth it.
Cute little venue that had very comfy chairs for a fringe show that we saw. The house was packed but didn't feel stuffy and the viewing angles were great.
I've had nothing but good theatre experiences at the Varscona, and look forward to each new production of Teatro Quindicina! (Life has returned to Old Strathcona.)
Not supporting a theatre which discriminates based on private and personal medical information. Vaxports aren't required legally anymore in AB yet you all decided to continue to discriminate those who disagree with your views. Not very Albertan of you. Not getting mine or my family's business.
You don't get to discriminate on people due to their medical choices, which are none of your business to begin with. Not returning here & will make sure my friends and family know of your medical discrimination against those who refuse to disclose their PERSONAL & PRIVATE medical information.
Beautiful theatre venue in the heart of Old Strathcona. Located close to great restaurants and pubs, this theatre is always hosting incredible shows, and of course is the home to Die Nasty every Monday.
Definitely without a doubt a theater. Great location. Great choices of productions from my experience. Clean. I'll definitely have my local production there one day.
Great little theatre. Saw a really fantastic play with some incredible talent, Happy Birthday Baby J. The service at the little concession was also stellar. I tipped $5 and they tried to give it back! Great night.
Wonderful theatre for local performances. Nicely set up but Parking is a Pain. The City of Edmonton took away their handicap parking. Still worth going to. City has now decided to make 2 spots out front handicap parking.
No seat reservations so get there early if you want an aisle/central seat.
I've seen consistently excellent shows there including their fringe shows. I look forward to seeing more Shadow theatre.
If you go to Varscona allow yourself time to eat out at the restaurant next door that has just been refurbished and menu overhauled by manager. It's getting pretty popular so do yourself a favor and make a reservation!
Chick pea starter at this restaurant probably needs some work/ sauce but everything else is good. I'm vegetarian.
Love this theatre! The renovations are lovely, the seats are comfortable and leg room ample. The productions are top quality with amazing acting. We had a party of ten and they were wonderful accommodating our seating request. Red licorice is a must to purchase for snacking during the performance.
The renovations done here have truly skyrocketed this theatre and company to excellence in my eyes. They are an integral component in the theatrical scene that drives this city forward, and I am always looking forward to my next visit. Excellent staff, seating, drinks and most of all performances!
It is a great venue. Nice, clean, and well maintained. I took my daughter to the sprout plays. The volunteers and administrative were so friendly and patient to help children. There were three plays, and my daughter enjoyed all. The angle that seats are located are perfect. No matter where you sit, you can see the whole scene.
The musicals the produce are I N C R E D I B L E. (From my own experience) Highly recommend seeing their musicals. IT'S SO WORTH IT. Very professional and incredible sets.
The Varscona Theatre Ensemble is a professional company. Fun Home is well written, well-acted and well directed. They put on a moving, thought-provoking and enjoyable play. I see 30-50 plays a year and rarely stand. I stood - no weak links.
There is no bad seat. The incline is far greater than most venues in the Strathcona area, so whether you’re at the front or the back, you’ll get a clear view.
We have a season subscription to Shadow Theatre. This production was a pleasant surprise, it was made even stronger by the quality acting on all performers' parts.
I loved this place and the great play I watched! It was a true story about how comedy was introduced into war by our Canadian troops at Vimmie Ridge in World War One.
