Don’t know what all the hype is about. Me and my fiancé came here for dinner on New Year’s Eve and were extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. We have heard such wonderful things from co workers and friends so thought we would give it a shot. We would not return and honestly would not recommend to others. I would have rather stayed in and made our own dinner versus getting ready to go out and fitting a nearly $200 bill for a subpar dinner experience. The restaurant itself is quite lovely inside even though the location we found to be very odd with a travel lodge inn within the same parking lot. The service was great and our server was very kind. However the food quality and portion sizings are not worth the pricing in my opinion. I got a mojito which tasted completely watered down. My fiancés Ceaser was alright. We got the ricotta dip, it was nothing special for $19. It was also cold when it came to our table … and though we expressed this concern it was still put on our bill. I ordered the chicken parm dish which came out over cooked (both the chicken and veggies) yet somehow the spaghetti/sauce was cold … The restaurant took this back and instead I got the steak and mushroom risotto, this was alright but unfortunately I already had a bad taste in my mouth about this place. My fiancé got the porcada which he said was alright but nothing amazing. We also got the five cheese pizza, that was probably the best dish from the evening but again it was just alright. It also erks me that we expressed our dissatisfaction and would have expected a chef or even a manager to come speak to our table/apologize but nothing was done to rectify our negative experience except the server apologizing and getting me a new dish/letting the kitchen know about the cold dip. All in all did not meet our expectations and I would say save yourself the trip and just go somewhere else especially for a special event or occasion. Definitely did not make for an enjoyable New Year’s Eve.
I was not very sure about stopping here, but from the first call about our reservation to the text reminders, the greeting at the door and the superb service. The food was authentic, delicious, and original. Highly recommend.
I have mixed feelings about this place. As a lover of Italian cuisine, with carbonara being my favorite, I was excited to try this restaurant known for its original-style carbonara. Upon arriving, I noticed the restaurant was well-maintained and had a pleasant ambiance. However, I was surprised that they didn't offer the usual complimentary bread with olive oil and vinegar, which is common in Italian restaurants I've been to. Its absence did impact the overall experience.
Now, onto the food. I've tried the carbonara three times, so I can provide a fair assessment. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations. Pancetta is typically salty, but this carbonara was excessively salty, making it difficult to finish the plate. It was also much oilier than I'm accustomed to, and as the pasta cooled, it left an uncomfortable layer of oil in my mouth.
I appreciate the restaurant's aim to serve original Italian food in a town where it's not common, but it seems they have some room for improvement, especially considering the price range.
Wonderful classic Italian. The service was great! Very attentive. The food was all very good. I had calamari, meat balls, and the carbonara. I would definitely dine here again.
We came up to Edmonton for our daughter's 21st birthday and decided to celebrate at Vaticano.
The service was 10 out of 10, the appetizers again were a 10 out of 10.
The Braised Short Ribs were spectacular. The Gnocchi Tatufo was silky soft, with the mushroom cream sauce that was the star of the dish.
The seafood pasta was a disappointment with perfectly cooked seafood and pasta and cream sauce that was under seasoned, and no salt or pepper was offered table side.
The Saint Vincent Pizza while tasty had such a soggy crust that it made me wonder why the to-go container they brought had an insert to allow the crust to breathe but it is served just on a plate.
This place is so underrated. If you want authentic Italian dishes this is the place to go. The pizza particularly is astronomical. We had the St. Michael’s and the you can really taste the ingredients and truffle on it. This is our second time to be here and it’s really special.
An absolute gem! The service and food was amazing! (Bruschetta, pizzas, Focaccia Bread, and Tiramisu) the best chocolate and Espresso Martinis. We will be going back before we leave Edmonton, we evacuated to Edmonton from Yellowknife and this was a lovely evening. Will recommend this place to anyone who is wondering where to eat in the city!
My husband and I like to go to the Old Spaghetti Factory or Sicilian Pasta Kitchen for our pasta fix but thought we could check out a new restaurant for a change. Came across this place and the food here was PHENOMENAL! The ricotta dip with pizza bread, 10/10. The butternut squash ravioli I had was easily one of the best thing I’ve ever eaten! My husband had a special, I can’t quite remember what it was but it was a dish with egg noodles and tenderloin I think. He absolutely loved it.
Needless to say, I’m glad we went out of our comfort zone and discovered this gem. We will 100% be back!
Ordered from here to have birthday dinner at home with the family.
Pizza was soggy. Ordered a $34 seafood pasta dish (ok, typical) with next to no seafood in it. Decided to splurge being my birthday and got the steak add on, asked for medium rare, it was well done and the pasta noodles were undercooked. Portion sizes were not worth the money. Said it was my birthday and all they did was write "happy birthday" on the pizza box.
Accommodated 12 of us for supper with little notice. Our family had all come together for a funeral earlier that day and it was also my aunt's birthday. We had big feelings, lots of food. Our server Martin was so lovely, accommodating, had a sense of humor, exactly what we needed. He managed all our orders without any mistakes and kept the service running efficiently without us ever feeling rushed. It was a hard day, but he made it a little brighter. Also the food was so good! I had a steak salad. And my negroni cocktail was nicely mixed.
We were mourning our uncles passing and quietly celebrating my aunts birthday. We reserved for 12 people and walked in 15 min later and they were ready for us. Our server Martin was outstanding. He was warm friendly conscientious and accurate. The food was excellent and was only outdone by the service. Thank you all very much for a wonderful meal in a very trying time. And big shoutout to Martin for his wonderful service.
Fantastic gluten-free options. A welcoming environment. Wait staff is super friendly and the cuisine is top notch. Photos are of GF Chacuterie board GF St Michael's pizza Negroni cocktail and 6oz House red wine
My wife and I have eaten at this restaurant multiple times, have had multiple dishes - all of which were delicious. Hidden gem in Edmonton! Our server this latest time (Olivia) was quick like the food and very accommodating.
Trent was a fabulous server. The food was unbelievably great. My friend and I both feel that if you love Italian you should definitely pay these guys a visit
I used to be the biggest fan of this place but after our recent experience, I am absolutely appalled by the service. Our server was new and made a few mistakes, but that was fine and we weren’t that upset with him. He apologized multiple times and felt very bad. Everyone is human and honestly it wasn’t really his fault that he ended up with our group of 8 on his second day.
However, my friend posted a review and the management doubled down and gaslit us instead of apologizing. They told us it was OUR fault that we came in with such a “big” group. This is false because we called in advance and told them we had a group of 8 coming, and they said it was fine. There were 2 other much larger parties than us, and other than that, the restaurant was empty. If the restaurant could not handle our group, they should’ve told us that instead of seating us.
While my order was incorrect, this wasn’t even the biggest problem. The biggest problem was the fact that the manager tried to gaslight me and say I “changed my mind”. This did not happen, and the manager was entirely lying when he said that someone at my table confirmed that. That’s not what happened at all - my friends also said that that’s not what I ordered.
I have never experienced such bad customer service from management before. It wasn’t the fault of the server. I used to come with my family a lot, but I will not be coming again because of the terrible response from the management of this restaurant. The server was nice, but this is awful.
