Always had a great time at the Westside Rec whether I was working out alone at the fitness center or swimming with my family. It’s such an awesome place for your physical and mental well being. Staff are super nice and amazing. Highly recommended!
What looked like a newly hired life guard was very unprofessional towards my daughter and I yesturday. My almost 7 year old daughter gets very cold in the pools here and asked me to go in the hot tub with her. He came up to us and asked how old she was. When I answered, he proceeded to ask “how much six and a half? ”, so I politely told him her birthday. He then asked, “can you read the board over there? …sorry. ” It was very demeaning for a teenager to speak to a fully grown women and mother in this manner, lacking respect. Please teach your staff to be kind and courteous to all members who graciously pay to come here.
I was a little hesitant in getting a membership as it is a fairly busy rec center, but I decided to bite the bullet and get one. The gym is clean, there is a bunch of equipment, the walk/run track is awesome as well. I very rarely need to wait to use something. The staff are so nice, I can always rely on them for help.
We just had a magnificent 5th birthday Splash Party at Westside Recreation Centre. From the moment we started looking at the venue Taylor Braaten was with us every step of the way to kindly and efficiently get everything organized. The smart waiver system was easy to use and saved alot of grief on the day. Guests arrived and found their place easily with help from several hosts assigned to our party. The pool was great and the party room big and well stocked with tables and chairs. We were able to host an amazing event all thanks to the incredible Taylor and her team. We will definitely be going back!
I like the recreational pool here better. Less crowd, variety of pool classes and activities, great for families especially for babies. They also have an indoor skating with fireplaces.
My family & I had a good time at this pool. We loved the family change room, It was so helpful for us to be able to change together. The private stalls & control of the shower temperature was fantastic! The pool area was nice. Has a baby pool with lots of toys to play with. The tot area wasn’t working while we were there which sucked because we have a toddler. The wave pool was kind of cold & the waves weren’t very good, You could barely tell there was waves. The lazy River was the biggest hit for us, The water was warmer & it was just so much fun going round & round. There was a lot of careless teenagers in the pools & they were playing pretty rough, Almost hit multiple younger children & the staff didn’t care, I guess they don’t have to when you have to sign a waiver to go swimming. It’s also quite expensive compared to other leisure centres, 37$ for 2 adults & a 2 yr old. All in all, 3 stars for us, Will probably go again just for the lazy River & how much our toddler enjoyed it.
Not so kind staff members as well as purchasing a day pass only allows you to entrance once essentially meaning you can’t leave and come back in when you pay for the day? Front cash is very hostile and have no right to be as disrespectful as they are. I’m forced to go to this poorly managed recreational center as it’s the closest option not to mention with ridiculous prices.
Wish I could give zero stars. Went swimming with the family. Drop in cost of $40 for an hour and a half. Lazy river was closed. Water slide was open for 10 minutes then closed. When they say open until 8pm it really means 7pm.
Had a 8th Birthday Party with 12 Kids in attendance on Saturday. Couldn’t have asked for a better venue. The host and hostesses were very friendly and accommodating. The facilities, (Gym and Swim) were perfect for this age group. And the time, 3 hours, was about perfect. Thanks West Side Rec for hosting this very special occasion!
Pool itself is okay, little disappointed for the price to get in for a good portion of stuff not to be working.the lifeguards can be very rude.they will be down your throat if you have your phone out.also witnessed a young female lifeguard rip (LITERALLY YANKED!) a toy boat from a young girl's hands because she took it in the hot tub. I get the concept for rules but staff shouldnt be enforcing them that way.
Ashley in the fitness department is rude and disrespectful with terrible customer service management. She has targeted me for weeks, constantly creating new boundaries in the gym and been using their 3 strikes policy against me to kick me out of their gym. She deserves to lose her job as she has clearly never learnt how to talk to children or adult, especially customers paying to use the facility. 90% of the time she walks around the gym not doing anything. Very thankful however for Brock working in the gym. More staff that understand how to deal with children should be hired.
Citizens of Calgary this is one of the worst rec centres in Calgary it’s lucky it’s in a good location. As a person of colour I have experienced racism from the staff, not only that the staff is racist the gymnasium is bad. The court is never clean they always worrying about kids putting they’re backpacks in a locker when they should be worrying about the ant infestation. I recommend going to MNP Rec centre or seton ymca for the family or if you just want to play basketball go to prolific sports house. Not only is Westside a the worst rec centre in Calgary it’s also very very expensive, I’ve been to almost all rec centres and I can tell you west side is the most expensive and its one of the smallest. Also if you want to swim southland leisure centre is the best option cause its big and cheap thanks for listening. ️
Great place to be but they should increase the fees so that less people are there. Please increase the prices so it stays private. Or just make it a private club with no drop in
The waver is a little bit much just to get into the pool and you need to show photo ID. The price is a bit step for the pool when south land is bigger and cheaper and doesn’t need a waver or ID to get in.
Very rude pool staff, so many rules, I went there with my 7 years old, and after played a while I went to washroom and I told my son to wait there and don't go into the water, after I'm done from the washroom a girl staff came and yelled at me, she say that's the final warning to not let child stay spart otherwise she will ask me to leave! I said ok I know now and she said no I didn't finish and Balabala for about 2mins, that scared my son, he was so terrified. OMG SHES SO RUDE!
And not to mention, this is the first time I'm giving a 1 star review! Would give 0 if I could!
Simply a great place to keep a healthy lifestyle. The downside is the men's changerooms by the pool, they always seem to the smell like urine. There is definitely room to improve here, everything else seems to work well.
Love everything about the facility, great gym, pool, rinks etc, however why the hell do you guys close at 2: 30 on weekends? Please change this right away.
