The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies is a gem in Banff.
The displays are incredibly well done and there is lots to see and learn about. There are lots of panels on local history and some unique panel designs as well. The exhibits are also thoughtful and there is a special exhibit that is frequently rotated through with a new exhibit theme.
The staff are also wonderful and gift shop is excellent. I was surprised by the large number of books by local authors and Indigenous authors including Katherena Vermette, Tanya Talaga, and Thomas King.
The staff at the archives are also excellent. I spent several days in the archives and Kayla and Elizabeth were super helpful. They were always willing to answer questions, chat, and offer suggestion for fonds or items to look at.
The Whyte Museum is somewhere I think everyone should visit and I will certainly be back.
We visited the museum with a child and there was something interesting for all ages. Very friendly staff and a wonderful gift shop featuring local art and books.
A small museum in Banff about the history of the city and its inhabitants. There are two main spaces, one on the left, which is a gallery of contemporary artists of the area. And the main one on the right about the history of the city.
A fantastic museum featuring a wonderful collection of archival, heritage and art of the Canadian Rockies. Very well maintained and educational. At $12 for an adult ticket it was money and time well spent!
Many animals specimens with good surprises.for instance, I am surprised to see how big the real size of a river beavers, and relatively smaller their cousins of mountain beavers, actually I ran into a wild mountain beavers at the Sulphur mountain gondola place! Also got to see the size comparison of grizzly vs black bear, and grizzly vs moose, many birds eggs comparison, it's both entertaining and educational.
This museum is such a gem and love their gift shop for beautiful cards, crafts, books and so much more!
However, always find the service disappointing…often some grumpy ladies working at the greeting area which doesn’t make me feel welcome there but that can easily be improved with the right training in place
We were pleasantly surprised how wonderful our trip to this museum was! We learned alot and the art was beautiful. Both staff we interacted with were fantastic and helpful!
First time. Enjoyed the art installation as well as historical pieces. The archive was fantastic. We could have spent all day going through the photographs. It also has a wonderful gift shop with interesting tchotches.
I'd recommend this museum over the Banff Park Museum if you're looking for general history and art. But you should visit both - they're within very close walking distance of each other.
