Windsor Plywood Calgary South

So happy we found this store full of magical projects waiting to happen. A lovely spice of adventure as soon as you walk in the store and friendly staff who are excited to talk about the exotic and fascinating woods in store. We will be back!

I had an amazing experience at this Windsor Plywood location. I went in with a basic idea of what I wanted—a countertop to go over our washer and dryer in our mudroom/garage entryway area, and measurements for the size we needed. Paul Chabidon welcomed me when I got there and asked if I needed help. I explained what I was trying to do and he walked me through some options and answered all of my (very novice level) questions with a lot of patience.

Paul really took an interest in my project. He really went the extra mile. He initially didn’t think he was going to be able to cut the piece I needed that day, but in the end he was able to get the cuts done that day, which was a huge help. He also had some great ideas for how we could use some of the extra material (beautiful acacia butcher block) and he made a couple of extra cuts for free to make the extra material more usable for me. Definitely 5 stars for the service Paul provided!

One of the worst experiences ever. Went in to look for some casing to match what we have in the house. I had a sample with me. Went up to the desk and the guy just pointed me in the direction of the moulding sample board. Couldn't be bothered to get off his chair while he was surfing the web I guess. Totally different experience when I went to a competitor just down the road where the service was amazing. Won't forget and wont be back.

Stellar selection and customer service. We found exactly what we were looking for and Paul helped us make the cuts and select the stain like the pro he is.

I used to avoid this particular location due to very poor customer service, but something has turned around and the staff is a pleasure to deal with!

I went there yesterday looking for a piece of oak trim that seems it was either custom made or discontinued.
I spoke with Todd, who graciously offered to make it for me, at a very reasonable cost.
I've used Windsor Plywood stores before and this particular location has always been the best for me.

2 people milling around Sales counter and both ignored me until I had to call out to them to get their attention.
Asked the one that bothered to turn around (the other just walked away) some questions about stain and he was absolutely clueless - no idea what brush to use, said they had no shaker and couldn't even provide me a stir stick. He also made some uninformed interjections to the conversation which basically was a cover to the fact that he didn't understand much but felt like he should comment to make it sound like we were actually having a discussion.

Frankly wanted to give 1-start based on that interaction but I didn't check out the entire store nor interaction with any of the other staff so maybe there is something good there i.e. Selection of wood and someone who understands it?

I try to patron the 'little' guys' vs the big Orange or Blue box stores because the staff of those stores are usually apathetic; I expect and appreciate better service/knowledge at these smaller stores.but this visit was a complete disappointment.

UPDATE: went back to get more supplies and apparently working in a lumber yard does NOT mean that staff should understand the different type of dimensional lumber available; in fact, just walk customers vaguely around the yard, pointing at things that dont match what they ask for and then tell them 'we dont have that'. Except you do.you just dont care enough to know. -1 star

Exceptional service from Paul and Blake. A very small order but we were treated like royalty! We had a good laugh too. Great selection, expert knowledge. Thank you guys. First class job.

Absolutely wonderful experience (it was my first time), great selection of excellent woods and best of all: our experience with Paul. He was super helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

The selection is pretty good as are the prices. I just find the staff rude, and one guy was particularly condescending.

I was over charged for a piece of molding. Just to check, I went to the rack and sure enough I was charged double the cost. The teller mistakenly charged me for the larger molding. He made the charge and made it right. If I wouldn't have checked, I would have been out money. It was an honest mistake.

I brought in non standard measurements for a replacement exterior door (which I didn't know were non standard). Instead of telling me this, the staff person, went by the smaller measurement and ordered a door that is too small (somehow, this is my fault). A friend, who is also a contractor, machined the door for me and went to install the door only to discover it was too small.

When I reached out to Windsor Plywood the first person I spoke with told me too bad, you already machined it. When I connected with the fellow who ordered it for me, he suggested all kinds of work arounds (e.g. Playing cards between the hinge and door, extra wide weather stripping, etc) but at the end of the day, the door is just too small. The door is north facing on a farmhouse with nothing to block the wind. It needs a door that fits.

So, I totally understand the problem with having already machined it but being told about standard size doors after the fact wasn't very helpful. I suggested they credit the door, at a discounted %, they take it back and sell it out of a bargain bin at something more than they credited me for and I buy a new door that fits. That arrangement would mean I'm out a portion of the cost of the original door but it recognizes all involved had some responsibility. In the end, I get a door that fits and they make a few % extra on the whole thing everyone's happy, right? Wrong that suggestion has been ignored completely.

We have renovated one house, built fences and done many projects in the past almost exclusively using Windsor Plywood products, thankfully not from this location. I'm a business owner, we would never treat a customer like this.

There is ALWAYS great service from the staff. They treat every customer like they are the most important customer. I'll easily pick Windsor Plywood over the big-box stores EVERY time!

We've done a number of projects and have always gone to Windsor Plywood for our products. We've always had the help and guidance we've needed from their knowledgeable staff. Whether it's been to build a table, desk and bench, or put in flooring or renovated the front exterior of our home, Windsor Plywood has always been a fabulous experience for us. I’m just a hobbyist. But every time I’ve shopped here I’ve been blown away by the customer service. Outstanding.

Stu went above and beyond with customer service. He assisted with loading and unloading plywood, which was appreciated with my broken hand. He even price matched an out of stock product with an in stock alternative. Windsor plywood Calgary south is a great one stop shop for your building and woodworking projects.

I only shop here because I work next door, and every time I do, I regret it immediately.
Only myself waiting in line to buy lumber and the two people sitting at desks won’t even look up. 10 minutes later they page someone to the desk. They won’t even get up themselves. The comment from the person writing up the receipt is “management”.
Always terrible service and I can see that is the management style here.
A two star rating only because they have the lumber I needed.

This location is not my closest one, but I use this one because the guys know how to accurately measure BF, and they have friendly helpful staff. This store was running a xmas sale, the SE location wasn't. For this reason alone it makes it worth my while to use this location.

Note to novices: there is an order desk that is well staffed. If you wander around the warehouse expecting someone to "jump out of the woodwork, " and be your personal shopper, that's not how it works. I have always found the staff knowledgeable and eager to help.

Top service support by our sales person, Norbert - had a couple issues with our customized doors which were dealt with, sorted and now look so beautiful. Very happy with everything and will highly recommend them!

Literally Nobody cares about you if you are inside and looking for a staff if you have any questions

If ANY mistake is made by the associates, the words they always say are “it’s not my fault”. I went in to purchase a composite wood deck system including the boarding, rails, and glass. 1. The composite boards were horribly scratched, when I went back to replace the majority of the damaged boards, the yard associate said he was walking away and telling me to get my own boards because I was too picky and said it “wasn’t his fault” Ya, sorry for asking for undamaged products. 2. I took a picture of the railing space and asked what I needed, the associate sold me a completely wrong rail system. If I had installed as he recommended, and my client had leaned against the rail, there is a strong chance the rail system would have failed. Went back to complain and guess what. “well it’s not my fault” 3. I walked in personally with the dimensions for the glass that was needed to be ordered. I spoke to two associates and asked what was the time frame for when I would expect a call. They stated 4 days.after 6 days I called. They hadn’t even ordered them! And guess what I was told. “Well it’s not my fault”. 4. So after waiting for them to finally place the order, I went to pick it up. And guess what. I had ordered the 6 mil glass and they handed me 5 mil glass, so I had to go back and wait even longer for the 6 mil. And guess why they said. “Well it’s not my fault”. Guess what, every single step of this deck disaster was your fault! I will NEVER go back to this location. It’s filled with socially inept associates that have no clue how to interact with people, let alone customer service. Also, their product knowledge is far below par. If you like Windsor Plywood, drive a little further and go to another location. This place needs to close down, or have a complete overhaul in management and employees.
