Did the sanctuary walk! The wolf dogs are so beautiful! Really enjoyed it! Next time would do the tour so I could get a closer look at these beautiful animals!
The interactive tour is the only way to go! I'm sure the rest of the sanctuary is lovely to view but we did the interactive tour and I wouldn't want it any other way. A great way to get an up close look at the wolfdogs and to learn a lot about the sanctuary and breed.
This was SUCH a cool place! We did the interactive tour and it was amazing. The tour guide answered all our questions expertly and it was so cool to get to see such beautiful animals up close. This place does great work saving wonderful creatures - definitely worth a visit.
Amazing sanctuary! Staff were friendly and helpful. We did the interactive tour and it was amazing. The tour guide (can’t remember her name) was knowledgeable, patient and you could tell how much she loved the animals. A highlight of our trip! Highly recommend!
Amazing experience, we did the guided tour which took you into a viewing area so you can see the wolfdogs more up close. The guide was very informative and friendly always open to questions. We was also fortunate enough to be there for some activities where the wolfdogs were given new things to interact with. You can see how well looked after these animals are and how much the team care about them
We did just the sanctuary walk, the wolf-dogs are active and curious just walking up and they hear it and wanna see who it is. The sections they keep them in are rather large giving the wolf dogs a lot of space and making the place into, well a sanctuary and not a zoo. The walk was interresting, cool, and educational. The wolf dogs are well kept, and ratger well mannered (very little barking, or hostility) but still keep your hands away as from all the signs posted they have deffinately had accidents from people reaching out with thier hands and getting bit. They are still mostly wolf!
One of a kind experience! We were a group of 12, and selected the interactive experience - well worth it. You have the opportunity to get close to these magnificent animals. These are not domesticated dogs - it’s an entirely different interaction. We felt very safe the entire time, and enjoyed the educational aspect of our visit. Highly recommend for anyone interested in animals.
Excellent experience, dont go expecting to pet them, not how it works! Very interesting to find out about these animals and see them first hand, one will take treats out of your hand of you are quiet and she feels like it, would recommend a visit for sure and if you go pay for the goat treats and feed the goats.not cheap but the best laugh money can buy!
Visiting here was the most memorable experience of our weeklong visit to the Calgary area. Our tour guide was Arilyn, and she was very knowledgeable about the subject of wolfdogs and was able to answer all kinds of questions. Very well-kept facility. It's worth the time to go.
We (husband and I) had an amazing experience at the sanctuary. It was very educational and entertaining too. Staff treated us nicely and let us explore the sanctuary at our own pace. Will visit again in another season for sure!
The staff were so friendly! The facility and wolfdogs was well taken care of and the people really cared about the wolfdogs. The interactive experience was well worth it! As a warning for those with rental cars- you do have to go on a gravel/unlaced road so just be aware of that when planning
I recommend the Interactive Tour. You get to sit with the wolfdogs and feed them from your hand. You also learn about them, how they come to be there, the short sighted idiots who breed them, and what the sanctuary is up against.
It was bigger than we expected, and it was educational to learn what identifies as a wolfdog and why so many are in humane society's or being euthanized because owners don't expect the amount of work wolfdogs require. They had facts or educational boards throughout as you walk through the path. It was sad but heartwarming to read their background stories. Some definitely like the attention more than others. It was worth the price, which wasn't too expensive, knowing that it goes to a good cause to take care and build more homes for the wolfdogs.
We did the interactive tour and learned a lot about the wolf dogs. We also got to feed them treats along the way. This non profit organization is making a huge difference in the lives of the wolf dogs and we are grateful for the opportunity to take part in their mission.
I have now had the privilege of going on two Interactive Tours; last Friday and in spring of 2022. They have been a highlight of both of my visits to Alberta, especially having the opportunity to offer treats out of my hand! I love the care and refuge they provide to so many Wolfdogs. The staff are professional but their love for the Wolfdogs is also evident. I cannot recommend this sanctuary highly enough and hope they continue to get the support they need to ensure that the Wolfdogs thrive. I can't wait for my third visit, hopefully next year!
The interactive tour was an incredible experience! It was great learning about these misunderstood animals and to see all the amazing work The Yamnuska Sanctuary is doing to preserve them. The owner is an incredible women and it was awesome to meet her wolfdog, who was the one that inspired it all. I would highly doing the interactive tour, it was a once in a lifetime experience!
The interactive tour is amazing, you get to go into the enclosures and meet the wolfdogs (on their terms of course). Would definitely recommend if you love animals, the tour guides are so full of knowledge and great stories as well. I would love to come again next time I am in the area!
Nonprofit organization taking care of wolf dogs that have been surrendered or abused by their owners. Very knowledgeable, friendly staff. It was a quick nice stop on our way back to Calgary and we learned a lot about the dog breed.
This place is incredible! My wife and I are travelling across Canada for our honeymoon and being huge dog lovers, we decided to stop here for the interactive tour. We can not recommend this place enough. The dogs are clearly well cared for and this shows in the way they approach the staff and nudge them for strokes and petting. The place is incredibly clean and the staff are very polite and professional. Shannon was our tour guide and she had a wealth of knowledge and was brilliant throughout.
A place I will definitely return to when I come back to Canada.
