The best sushi in Winnipeg, I’ve been to Japan and to me this is authentic. Great little spot!

Great sushi, fair price. The mini store with all the Japanese snacks and sweets is so cool and the employees are exceptional!

I visited this sushi restaurant and was blown away. The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious, but the standout dish for me was the tuna nigiri (chu toro) - it was simply amazing (not pictured because I ate it before taking a picture). The potato croquettes were crispy and delicious, with a great balance of flavors. The restaurant itself is small but has a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious and authentic sushi.

The price & quality just unbeatable! I buy their sashimi to eat at home sometimes because its so fresh and you can taste the fish oil and the texture is firm. Thats how you know it's fresh. The way chef handle the ingredient keep the food so tasty. I love the variety of authentic Japanese food at this place. Its my favorite sushi restaurant by far if you know how to enjoy the quality of fish. This is the place. Thank you chef for making delicious sushi all these years!

What a fantastic restaurant for authentic sushi. We had heard good reviews from friends. They have increased their seating to 5 tables from 2 tables with moving their grocery section to further back in the building. They also mentioned that the hours have recently changed - they are open later on certain days - I had posted a photo earlier today with the new hours. The Miso soup was delicious - it contained cooked large white onions which was new to me in a Miso soup. Tuna goma-ae is a favorite of ours - we loved the flavour of this one. Assorted Sashimi 15 pieces was perfect - we had salmon, fatty tuna, yellowfin tuna, surf crab, scallops, and tako (octupus). 2 different rolls we ordered were avocado and salmon, and avocado by itself. Excellent rolls. They provided a boiled water carafe so we could top up the loose leaf green tea pot at any time. Excellent cuts of sashimi, and the presentation was very good. We would totally recommend this place if you enjoy sushi. The grocery section has several cuts of salmon and tuna and other fish that you could potentially prepare at home for sashimi. Lots of Japanese foods available for purchase. We will go again. Staff were friendly and attentive. There are a few parking spots in the parking lot, and street parking is available as well.

Excellent takeout oyakodon. Impressive attention to detail, including the separation of rice and egg/chicken so the rice didn’t get soggy.

From the cut of the sashimi and nigiri sushi, it’s apparent that the chef has been trained in a Japanese establishment. The rice in proportion to the fish is spot on. The fatty tuna nigiri will have me coming back for second next time visiting Winnipeg.

WE WERE KICKED OUT. Went to check out this restaurant. The server double check their reservation list and gave us a table. After seated, we tried to get some water and order a few times. The server kept holding off and said she would be back. During that time, the server even went to every table and asked if any of them made reservation (including us again), which was very odd. 10 minutes later, the server returned and TOLD US TO LEAVE because there was a reservation coming up. All she said and repeated was ‘sorry, a reservation is coming up. We made a mistake. You need to leave. ’ Ridiculous service and unnecessary waiting for that entire time. NEVER HAD THIS LEVEL OF SERVICE ANYWHERE.

One of the best sushi places in Winnipeg, good quality fish and very good sushi rice. Love the Genmaicha so much that we purchased some. In our visit today everything was good but the most standout items were the Toro and Unagi nigiri!

The only thing holding back this restaurant to be my top go to sushi place is the price, it is on the more pricey side specially for the serving size of their sashimi.

Small grocery store with two tables inside. It's unassuming but the sashimi was on point. Honestly I'm a surprise it is as good as it is being Winnipeg. Right temperature, texture and properly cut. Even the wasabi was authentic from the actual plant root. This place takes there authenticity seriously so dont expect to find a spoon for your miso soup.

Again excellent Authentic sushi, in Miami you would have to pay twice the price.

Love the new location on Waterloo. Have been getting fish for sushi here and it's always of great quality. Lots of cool groceries available as well!

He is the best sushi Chief in Winnipeg. Ate at his restaurant many moons ago on Academy. Wow the fish is perfect. The real miso soup in the city and every ingredient is prepared right. This is the only real sushi place in Winnipeg. No more cheap fish for me.

High quality authentic Japanese restaurant. Pricey but worth it. Happy that they opened again. We were sad they they had to shut down during COVID. We are now happy that they reopened but at a different location. And a location that is more accessible during weekends.

The owner and staff are extremely friendly and always eager to help me with what I need. Great selection for food and groceries and sushi supplies. Love doing business with them.

Not the best but if you’re looking for affordable sushi it’s a good place. Sometimes their rice is a bit dry, and some rolls aren’t tasty (ex.the snowflake roll price were higher than other rolls but came with very thinly sliced fish and tobiko instead of salmon roe as on menu description). But some rolls like tuna crunch, salmon crunch, caterpillar, and rainbow are delicious.

Exquisitely prepared food, attentive service and a always few exclusive ingredients. Call 48h in advance for omakase and you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely, the worst sushi we have ever had.and very expensive. Avoid it if you can. The rolls are small, the presentation is weak.and the flavour is lacking. And as far as cocktails go, just grab a juice box.

Modern feeling Japanese restaurant but it felt more like a sushi bar than an Izakaya.

Order: a whole bunch of different nigiri, okonomayaki (pancake), shrimp tempura and alcoholic drinks.

Location: Heart of downtown, can't miss it. You can't really get a better location. Parking can be an issue however. 4/5

Customer service: Friendly wait staff, no problems. Food was prompt. 5/5

Value: very standard price for a sushi bar. It isn't unusual to spend over $100 at a Japanese restaurant. We ordered alcohol and a few premium cuts of sushi including chu toro so it is expected. 3/5

TASTE: Fresh fish was used for the nigiri. I was not a fan of the okonomayaki but that is not an issue. Not mind blowing. Very standard Japanese fare. 3/5

This is the best place of high quality sushi in Winnipeg. If you are into fresh sashimi, this is the best to go. We are biweekly patrons of edokko through doordash and the quality of the rice, fresh red salmon puts this restaurant above other sushi restaurants in the city. One recommendation however is to improve in its take out or delivery branding and packaging. Upscale sushi restaurants in other big cities have their own bags, and environmentally take out dishes instead of cheap white plastic bags. Spend a little bit more money and make it more upscale and be consistent with your pricing. It is the most expensive sushi restaurant in Winnipeg so your packaging should reflect on that.

Honestly, this is the best spot for Japanese in the city. The Ramen is phenomenal. The Sushi is FANTASTIC. The Donburi is SPECTACULAR.

I can honestly say I recommend anything with the Unagi (River Eel).

For real, the Unadon is the best I've ever had. The amazing combination of the sweet yet savory sauce combined with the rich, fatty Unagi is unbelievable. Trust me, you won't regret it!

The Tempura is also quite good. Light and fluffy but also crispy and satisfying.

If you get the chance to go in person, the staff are out of this world! Quick, polite, personable. Best of all they're not overbearing.

Take out or delivery are good also, but the dining experience is one that you'll want to enjoy at least once!

One of the best sushi restaurants in the downtown area. There Bento boxes are nice and the prices are pretty reasonable. Would definitely recommend!

Always had a great experience here regardless of what I order. Great selection of sushi and sashimi that is very fresh. I also highly recommend the ramen.

If you enjoy and appreciate fine Japanese food, you must come to Izakaya Edokko. We have become regulars in the 3 years it has been open and have never been disappointed. The Omakase dinner is wonderful - you are in the hands of a top chef. Our 6-course menu last included all manner of tasty delights skillfully prepared and exquisitely presented! Service is attentive and friendly. Lunches are also delicious and great value - highly recommend this restaurant to locals and visitors!

Wonderful ambience for conversation, light piano music in the background, great, helpful service. But most importantly - delicious AND authentic Japanese food!

Veggie dinner combo was yummo and so aesthetically pleasing. Staff was informative about what does and does not have fish based sauce.

Sat at the chef counter. Ate from the hot and cold appetizer menus and enjoyed everything. Service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and attentive. Gyu (beef) tataki, tuna goma ae, and pork belly were highlights for us. The uncooked octopus (on the daily special menu) was good but quite chewy and would skip it next time. One thing I noticed was that for an upscale establishment, I expected better chopsticks than the disposable wood ones.

Incredible. I had the chef's special, The flavors are spot on, the meal came with a variety of sashimi and sushi, chef's choice, a small bowl of miso soup, and a bowl of mango ice cream.if you are in Winnipeg and are craving Japanese.this is the place.

Absolutely delicious food. Chef's special are always amazing. Sushi is wonderful and full of fillings, gyoza is fresh and perfectly seasoned, ramen is delicious and savory. For the price, you can't go wrong. I love this place.

Very Poor Customer Service - This was our 2nd time to Izakaya Edokko. The 1st visit was an excellent experience, which is why we came back for another try.

Unfortunately, the service we received from the serving person and management on this occasion was terrible.

The serving person told us about a Dinner Special of Blue Fish Tuna sashimi at $7 a piece. It was a higher quality sashimi and warrants a higher price, but we refused it. The serving person then made a suggestion of Fatty Tuna Toro Sashimi Nigiri, but she would order it without the rice, claiming it would cost less. How could we refuse? So we agreed to this.

We received 5 pieces of what we thought was Fatty Tuna Toro sashimi.and it was delicious.

However, when the bill came, we saw that she had tried to bill us $35.00 for the Dinner Special of 5 pieces of the Blue Fish Tuna Sashimi at $7.00 a piece. It was marked on the bill as Blue Fish Tuna Sashimi, not the Fatty Tuna Toro.

We told the serving person about the 'error' on our bill. We stated that we were only going to pay for the Fatty Tuna Toro that we originally ordered. She left to talk to Management, came back and told us that she thought we ordered it. We reminded her about the conversation she had with us regarding this item before ordering.

She left again to talk to Management. When she came back, she admitted to making the ordering mistake, but claimed that Management would only deduct 20% off the $35.00. She also claimed that Management would dock her pay for the error made.

This entire conversation went on in front of other customers who could hear the everything. We found this very embarrassing and unprofessional.

In hindsight, we should have insisted on only paying 50% of the $35.00, as we did eat it all, but the ordering error was the Serving person's. We paid the bill, with just the 20% discount on wrongly billed item.

We will never return to patronize this establishment - due to the poor customer service and also how Management handled this situation. While the food here was good, it is not the only Japanese food restaurant in this city.

I enjoy the Tan-tan Men. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. Loved the atmosphere, modern and comfortable. Had a piece of the Tonkatsu Tei, I'd go back just for that, delicious.

Absolute best sushi experience we've ever had in Canada since eating sushi in Japan. The fish was so fresh we could not stop ourselves from ordering more. Thanks so much to the awesome staff, we had an amazing time!

Service was lacking even though restaurant was nearly empty. The fish wasn't fresh, tempura crumbs were stale to the point of nearly chipping teeth, and the prices were high for what we got. The rainbow roll only had 6 pieces? I hope they adjust their prices accordingly as there is no reason they should be charging that much when you can get better for cheaper elsewhere.
