Empty Cup

Meh, overrated.

Their default is take out cups and they don’t ask if you’re staying or going. Seems a bit oblivious to me, have they forgotten about the environmental crisis we’re living in.or are they just trying to save themselves labour walking to a table to pick up a cup, or washing it?

Their espresso is pretty acidic. Some people love that, some not.

I’ve never seen a staff member wipe a table. And they do get dirty. They seem inconvenienced by questions about products. This seems to be a trend across coffee shops these days. I get that staff shouldn’t be forced to be happy but isn’t part of the job of helping people, to actually be helpful?

Anyway, the pastries from La Belle Baguette are amazing so you don’t have to go to St B for one. That’s the best thing about the place for me.

I dunno but when I pay $5 for a coffee Id like a better experience. I think I only come to sit at the bar to be honest. If there were other options for a coffee in the area, other than Stella’s, I’d go there.

I ordered a lavender London fog and for the extra $1.50 I expected it and was upset there wasn’t any hint of lavender, there drinks are really inconsistent there, it is either not great of good at best

Consistently such rude service. Went there once before and thought maybe the barista was just having a bad day and brushed it off. But it happened again. Disappointing really. Wish they paid more attention to the cx experience.

Great coffee, not the biggest amount of seating but you can still find a seat most of the time. I love the americano there. Also the prices are amazing! The seats were dirty however, and had crumbs on them, never seen that before, kinda disappointed but okay.

Unfortunately this location doesn't compare to the Sage Creek Empty Cup location at all.
My husband and I frequent the Sage Creek location often which is absolutely wonderful, and has plenty of seating. When we moved to the Academy area location, we were very disappointed with our 1st experience here. We came to enjoy a cup of the drip drip coffee and green tea along with our favourite croissants, and there was no place for us to sit. People who are surfing the web, and working while enjoying their morning coffee were taking up space; 1 person was even taking up room at a 4 person table.
We will not be back to this location, as we had to sit in our truck outside to drink our beverages, and eat our morning croissants.

Had the cappuccino which was smooth and full of flavor. Paired with a croissant that was huge, flakey, and buttery.

This location doesn’t compare to the Sage Creek location. We’ve tried to many times, and it’s the same experience every time: staff doesn’t smile, doesn’t greet you and are generally unpleasant. Not friendly at all. It’s like they are annoyed you’re there, interrupting their time chatting with other staff. The person who took our order also watched to see if I tipped on the two $6 lattes we ordered. Coffee is good, lattes are hit and miss. The Banana Bread latte was awful both times we tried it at this location. Sage Creek is 100 times better.

Love it here, coffee/espresso quality is amongst the best in the city. Love their red eye espresso to take home. The staff at Academy is always so great, kind and welcoming.

This is a great place to study. I've been coming here to study for my classes and I love the atmosphere. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. The seating is also really nice and there are outlets everywhere. There is a stable Wi-Fi connection and clean bathrooms which include menstrual products if needed. The coffee is really good as well. They have all of the basics along with more. I'd recommend the raspberry white mocha (iced). They have food as well, this includes pastries, pizza and sandwiches. I've observed most people will come here for business meetings, catching up with friends and for studying/working. If you like quiet study time, I'd recommend bringing headphones. I find the café noise helps me study. Great place.

I ended up grabbing a cappuccino and sitting at one of the outdoor tables with company recently. The drinks taste great, customer service was friendly and the building was really clean and well organized. I was very impressed to see that Empty Cup (this location, anyway) has complimentary sanitary napkins in their washrooms. I wish I saw that kind of thing more often! I will definitely be back to support this business again.

I'll give it the same review as I did for the sage creek location. Best coffee in Winnipeg, bar none

Amazing pizza! I'm already looking forward to my next visit. The flavored ice teas were yummy and there area few outside tables that are in the shade.

Fabulous coffee shop and very friendly staff! Will definitely be back. The vibe in here is very trendy and laid back. Also its only a block off route 90 so great place to stop between the two malls

I keep wanting to love this place. The vibe is good, and the espresso beverages and drip coffee are great. But I've found the food to be lacking and overpriced (specifically, the $11 Bombay Bowl, and the sandwiches), and from what I've seen, the staff are constantly on their phones, more interested in texting or socializing with each other than assisting customers.

This has replaced Starbucks. I had been an avid Starbucks guy everyday of for over ten years of my life. Value equals $29,200 minimum to Starbucks. Then all my favorite locations shut down during covid. Empty cup showed up to take their place. I love that they have decent food options, healthy options and less healthy if that's your thing. Great layout. Modern design with a comforting atmosphere. Best of all, thr prices and decently lower than Starbucks was!

Had a very nice latte there yesterday. Will probably go back soon.

Not a whole lot of seating though

I live a two-minute walk away and can attest to how badly Academy Rd.was missing a coffee shop since Starbucks left this location.

Empty Cup ticks all the boxes of what a coffee shop should be: a great selection of well-made drinks, a nice, bright setting, and lovely staff. A go-to spot, no doubt.

I don't remember what kind of tea I had but it was red and it was the best iced tea I've ever had in my life

The other day a friend and I met for coffee and to get some work done. The staff were incredibly welcoming and we felt so comfortabe in the space at Empty Cup. Both me and my friend commented how the music choices added to the experience. So great! We will for sure be back!
