Great Canadian Oil Change

They were fast. Aggressive with selling. The windshield wipers they sold me are garbage. The old ones did better. S. North.

My friend had her vehicle serviced. The people were very helpful and did a wonderful job. The manager helped take care of her vehicle.

Absolutely blown away by the level of care and customer service here. They were coming outside and greeting every car that was pulling up and waiting, and then going over what services you're looking for and telling you roughly how long the wait will be. When it is your turn, they are thorough! They take you through all the ins and outs of your vehicle and explain what they're doing as they go. Very friendly service and the whole place was buzzing as one team, supporting each other and great communication/safety standards were being demonstrated. Good customer service is extremely rare these days and needs be recognized when you experience it. I can tell the management of this team is passionate and highly engaged in the quality of their business. Fantastic efforts and I'll be recommending your shop to anyone who asks me where to go for a full service oil change. Great work!

Trying to change the oil filter on my Volvo (taking more than half an hour) one of those kids damaged the hood sensor harness. Now I have a $700 quote to fix it.
I would have preferred to hear they couldn't change the filter than screwing things up.

I don’t look forward to getting the oil changed in my vehicle. It takes valuable time out of my day, it costs money and I don’t feel or see the return on it. So when I finally get around to it, I want the experience to be hassle-free, quick, and on demand.

This is why I got to Great Canadian Oil Change on Portage Ave.

There’s no appointment. If I happen to be in the neighbourhood and I have the time, I want to be free to drop in to get service when I want it.

When I pull up to the shop, an attendant greets me and asks what services I need. If there’s a wait, they provide me with a specific and reliable estimate of how long to expect. This provides me with choice on whether to wait and confidence that the processes inside the shop are reliable and predictable enough to warrant accurate wait times.

While I wait, the attendant performs some basic checks (tire pressure, headlamps, signals, etc.) and provides me with any feedback. This saves some time once inside the bay and shortens my overall lead time. I love this. The sooner I get out of there, the better.

The attendant guides you safely into the bay. They confirm your vehicle make and model by scanning your VIN rather than relying on me to do the work and potentially provide the wrong information (maybe it’s not my vehicle or I’m distracted by something on my phone).

The attendant then provides me a simple, visual menu of options for the oil (“Good”, “Better”, “Best”) with the pricing listed below each. The total price and estimated cycle time is given up front. It’s simple, transparent and requires me to do almost no work other than opening the hood latch.

The attendant asks you to put your keys on the dashboard as a visible signal that the vehicle can’t be started during the procedure. The attendant communicates clearly and loudly with the technician in the bay under the vehicle. There are standard communications with call back signals that can be heard because there is no loud blaring music or other background noise in the shop. The communication is vibrant, clear, and convivial. It's evident that the operation is running professionally and smoothly.

The attendant turns the computer screen towards me and walks through any additional recommended services based on the mileage, make and model. There are simple visual displays with associated pricing and the estimated additional time it would require in the service bay. The attendant does not pressure me to purchase any of them. No games.

Once we’ve settled on the total due, I am asked whether I wish to pay now, saving me unnecessary time waiting to pay at the end of the process. The attendant offers to send my invoice electronically, which I accept. I loathe stuffing bulky receipts into my glovebox. Payment is easy, unrushed, and paperless.

The attendant routinely updates me with how many minutes are remaining in the process. You can hear the attendant check and double-check with the technician to confirm that the oil plug and skidplate are re-attached. The attendant walks the dipstick to my window to show me that the oil has been replaced to the correct levels. I have confidence that the job was done well.

In and out quickly, efficiently, and hassle-free. I don’t look forward to getting an oil change but I will not hesitate to return to Great Canadian Oil Change when I inevitably have to.

They replaced my left rear turning light, checked tire pressure and did a full overview of my car for under $20. I usually only use these guys for oil changes but I let them know I was about to head out on a big cross country trek and they didn’t hesitate to double check all of my operations and safety features to make sure the drive went smoothly.

This is my go to place for Oil Changes. From my experiences the staff are trustworthy and educated about vehicles. Jay had an answer for every question and was a pleasure to talk to. Fair pricing.

Everyone was great. I had planned to stop there anyway but when I drove up they were all outside with signs to draw people in. Efficient, fast and friendly.

Was over 40 mins for a car oil change and techs didn’t know where the oil filter was and there was used oil spilled all over my air box, top of engine cover, and all down the side of the engine! Stopped down the street to check their work and my block heater cord was on the opposite side of where it was mounted to the air box and fell down into my pulleys! Will never get my service again after this experience

My dad had an accident just outside of this shop and they got me the video footage from their cameras, super friendly people.

The technicians at this shop cut a hole in my undercarriage splash guard instead of removing it. They also cross threaded my oil filter, resulting in metal particulate flowing in my oil. DO NOT go here, they will damage your vehicle. Any positive reviews are from people who did not look underneath their cars so they did not notice the damage.

The staff went above and beyond! Pretty quick and very sweet. There was one staff member JAY that left a fantastic impression especially. It sounds cheesy af, but we have picked our fav location lol I'd recommend it to buds. Great job everyone! We appreciate you!

Great Canadian oil change on 3220 Portage Ave, is one great place to get your oil change, staff are friendly and they go the extra mile for you, I have no problem going back there again to have my oil changed, it's a good honest place which is rare to find nowaday. Happy NEW YEAR to all you guys that work there.

Bad quality, took my car for oil change and they suggested a transmission service so i got that as well, they ended up breaking my muffler and when i called they said they couldnt do anything about it.

Overall bad service. I went to the first bay and I was 2nd in line. 1st person in line went in the 2nd Bay. A guy came out and talked to the vehicle who just showed up in Bay 2 for a couple minutes. Then came to us to say we need 15 more minutes. My assumption was they needed time for both vehicles in the bays. They didn't finish the truck in the first bay yet but quickly finish the car in the 2nd bay. Someone who showed up after us got waved on in before us. I asked why we didn't go in before him. The guy said we only needed 2 to 3 more minutes on the truck. A third guy came out told us they needed 5 more minutes. We waited well over 30 minutes at this time to get in for an oil change with no lineup of cars. We were treated poorly by the staff with different communications throughout the whole process. We left with no oil change after the 3rd person told us a longer timeframe. I get if it is busy I'd wait longer but they had no lineup. I will go to a different Great Canadian locations as this location isn't that "great".

I always come here because the staff is usually really good. Today I brought in my new F150 with just over 20000 kms on it for my second oil change. They said the oil was dirty and would recommend a flush.the oil looked quite clean and just a bit surprising. Both oil changes were done well before the kms or month of change. They also stated that my pan was sweating and could leak. The strange thing is that I had it serviced 2 days ago at ford. So not to sure what to say about this experience.

When I told then all I wanted was an oil change, they did not use high pressure sales tactics to sell me other products. They just changed my oil, and offered a paper and coffee.

I have been coming here for 2 years never had a issue until today. The mecanic under the car could not remove the skid plate. He was conplaining the the bolts were round and he could not remove then. I had to go under and remove it myself. They were easy to remove.

Started going here when Super Lube didn’t have a oil filter for a VW? ! Never regretted it. Good service.
