Honba Sushi

I work in the area so I’ve been coming here for years on my lunches. I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this gem yet. I’ve been to many and this makes one of my favorite sushi places in the city. The rolls are decent sized and I find the ratio of rice to fish and other fillings very satisfying. The sashimi is fresh, quality is always good! It’s unfortunate that some reviews haven’t had the same experience but I haven’t had any problems here.

I've ordered lunch special, for 15cad I received quite a big portion, and what impressed me the most is that sushi had less rice and more tasty fresh fillings. Great! Will definitely order with you again!

I am in Honba sushi heaven. I don't know how you guys do it time and time again? The rainbow roll is the most amazing thing on the planet! The salmon and tuna draped over the top are so fresh and soft and buttery it melts in your mouth! The avocado is always the perfect texture. The rolls are exquisitely made. Nothing ever falls apart. I also order the dragon roll which is delicious and perfectly made each time. The miso soup was hot on delivery and it is delicious. Let me also say that the ginger is always SO fresh! Fresher than anywhere I have ever ordered sushi. I have probably ordered a year now and this is the most consistent sushi restaurant for highest quality super rolls. But they are pricey, so I can only occasionally splurge on it. If I could eat here everyday I would!

But what are those little candies in the delivery? I can't understand the language but they taste like coffee and something sweet at the same time.

Got this as an alternative to my usual sushi place. Way too expensive. Ordered 4 rolls. One was decent. The most expensive roll I ordered, the dragon roll. $10 a Cali roll when they use fake crab. Ridiculous. I've had wayyyyy better quality sushi for way less. Ginza Sushi. Amazing place. Great sushi. Great staff. Don't waste your time with Honba Sushi. Go to Ginza Sushi. Able to get more variety. A party platter is $33 compared to $70 at this place.

J'ai commandé le Sushi Platinum Combo. Très bon et assez copieux. J'aime beaucoup leur soupe au miso. Prêt dans les temps. Personnel discret et serviable. J'espère qu'ils seront là longtemps dans le quartier. J'y retournerai bientôt pour goûter d'autres plats.

The food is generally good but the lack of simple, classic rolls is odd. If you are gluten sensitive, it makes for very difficult ordering.
There is no tuna maki, no salmon maki. Weird.

Me and my sisters love to order from here because all of the food is super good and well put. You really get what you pay for.the sashimi from here is The best it’s super fresh.everything always tastes fresh. I truly recommend buying from here

This place used to be a great yet affordable neighborhood sushi place and now the prices are crazy high and the quality is nowhere near what it used to be. I remember that one of their more expensive rolls was around $14 at the time and now half a year later it's $22 for the same roll of lesser quality. This used to be one of my favorite local take out spots. After tonight's experience, never again! Especially when Naru sushi is so close and the quality at Naru is far better.

The best sushi in Winnipeg, and the quality of their food is very consistent. We're huge sushi fans and have tried many sushi places in Winnipeg until we found Honba. Their price is obviously higher than other places but you get what you pay for. The portion is double the portion of other places, and the quality, freshness is far better. I don't know what other people reviews/complaints about their price. It's been like that for a long time, they didn't suddenly increase their price like what others said. Highly recommended their lunch special! That's our go to anytime we feel like sushi.

Have eaten here for many many years, however not since Covid hit. I stopped by for a take out order. One Philadelphia roll, one tuna maki and one shrimp tempura. The order was just over $40 with tax for these 3 items. The food was fresh but not worth the money. The price of their food has doubled if not tripled for some menu items since I was last there. The owners are lovely people, honest and hardworking people, but I will not go back because simply because I cannot afford to.

They just said it will take over an hour for picking up 2 rolls. Don’t try and pickup when it’s busy

I thought I knew good sushi for decades. I tried this place today and I was in heaven! This sushi melts in your mouth with freshness. Everything was packaged nicely, and they even added a mandarin orange and a candy to the delivery order! Don't pass on this place! Expensive but worth it. Keep up the good quality!

Always take delivery from the store. In my mind this s top1 sushi in wpg. Love it. And always patience. Offer me ex piece salmon Nigiri. Tasty. Love Love love️️️️️

The owner is super dog friendly and has offered free sashimi to golden Retrievers. Need I say more? See you soon!

Had my fair share of sushi from a bunch of different restaurants and thought I had my favourite locked down.until I tried Honba Sushi. I swear it was some of the best sushi I have ever had! The nigiri and rolls were so flavourful, and quite generous portions for the price. They had a lot of great Vegetarian options and also some really different roll combinations which I liked. Highly recommend trying this spot out if you are wanting to try something different!

Best chopped scallop roll and salmon/fatty salmon nigiri I’ve had in a long time. Melt in your mouth and very hearty pieces. This is going to become my new go-to sushi place

Honba is the best sushi restaurant around. The chef values quality and service. Make sure you get your order in early because he gets busy!

Excellent service. Doordash made a mistake and never sent a driver to pick up my order, but the people working were very kind and even gave me a free drinkwhen I came to pick up the order myself! Also the sushi was fantastic

Ordered off Skip twice now and quite impressed! I tipped them and they gave me either a free large nigiri or drink! Was not expecting that. Plus they don't cheap out on the meat and fillings in the sushi.

Very friendly service. We have regulars and gotten to my son on first name basis. They often give extra treats of edamame. They gave my son the stuffed bear off the counter last time plus the sushi is so delish!

Went here for a take out order. The wait was about 20 minutes. $48 for 6 rolls and 1 miso soup (I think I was over charged). Sushi was decent. I was VERY surprised that they don't serve vegetable tempura! They only have shrimp tempura. They have lunch specials for around $10+tax. I don't think I'll be returning to this place.

Ate here today for the first time for dinner. Dined in. They had no washrooms. Our sushi was sloppy, rice was fresh (warm) and wasn’t sticky so it fell apart to the touch. The rice tasted sweet for some reason. My spouse and I developed stomach aches & feeling of nausea. Won’t be coming back.

This place is more of a take out restaurant. There are some tables with communal seating. They have a hot water dispenser serving barley tea that is complimentary.

We ordered an assortment of rolls to take home as well as 2 salads and a miso soup.

I felt everything was good. The rice isn't the best, but most sushi places in Winnipeg aren't. The fish to rice ratio is much better here than at other restaurants. I also like that they cut their rolls smaller so it's easier to eat.

It's one of the better ones in the city. Not a lot of high end stuff but if you want a solid experience with the Staples, this is a good choice. Pricing is reasonable for what they were offering (not expensive, not cheap).

Service was pretty much non existent. They were polite but do not speak much English.
