Hy's Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar

Went here for the first time and we’re so happy we finally got to try Hy’s! Our server Marvin was great! The athmosphere was very cozy and relaxing.

Price was understandly steep but it’s a once in a while kind of date night for us.

We ordered cheese toast, a couple drinks, NY strip and Prawns and Scallops dish. Cheese toast was okay, some toasts were overdone/too crispy. The steak was cooked perfectly and it was flavourful. I originally wanted to get the Beef wellington but it only comes prepared raw! That was quite disappointing as I’ve enjoyed this dish prepared medium rare before… unsure if more could be done to allow guests to enjoy it to at least medium rare. Moving on, the prawns and scallops dish was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had! I could eat 3 plateful of those. Mashed potato is simple, smooth mashed potato.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we’ll be back to try more!

I went to Hy's to celebrate my 40th birthday. The food was okay, portion sizes were. The server Marvin was outstanding. This was our first time at Hy's and in a restaurant of this kind in Winnipeg? While we were proce shocked, the service was delightful. This is a place for celebrations based on our budget, not your everyday type restaurant, when you do t feel like cooking.

We had come here Tuesday night and ordered starters of the Sautéed Prawns (they were extremely salty and only came with 4), we did not enjoy them at all but were excited for our mains. I had ordered the Beef Wellington - it was rare inside, cool to the touch, my s/o's Bone in Rib was undercooked as well, we did not enjoy it at all and mentioned this to our server. We had ordered the Brussels Sprouts for our side which was EXTREMELY SALTY, definitely had to force it down. I also found $19 to be insane for just a Caesar, $17 for a Silver Cloud.

The service was great as he had gotten them to take off the Prawns from our bill (-$27.50 off of $241.35, this was like a no tax as the total bill was still $239.53 after tax). The employee had mentioned how they have a chef from Toronto who wants to cook the Wellingtons the 'traditional way' by cooking the steak inside the pastry so the steak is either cooked with a burnt pastry or vice versa. For that amount of money you would want to enjoy your dinner, it was an overall 3/10, the 3 is for the service and atmosphere but even then, I would not come back - it is extremely unfortunate as we were really looking forward to eating at Hy's. Very poor experience.

Had a lovely night out recently. Enjoyed mocktails. Our server was super attentive and kind. I love tableside service. We enjoy coming here over other steakhouses because the ambiance is calming, it’s not as loud as other places, and the experience is always memorable.

I had the New York steak sandwich with mashed potatoes for lunch. I was blown away. I've never enjoyed mashed potatoes so much. Prices are on the higher end but for the food, service and atmosphere it is worth every penny.

Excellent fine dining restaurant, especially for steak. Danny was a superb waiter. Looking forward to our next visit.

Amazing experience from start to finish.
Kelly gave an excellent description of our dishes which did not disappoint. Asparagus and creamed corn were fabulous. Mary was very polite engaging in fun tables conversation in-between courses. 10/10 would recommend.

The menu doesn't have so much but the meal was tasty. Its also a bit pricey.

Winnipeg's true five star restaurant. A little bit expensive, but you get what you pay for, in spades! Attention to detail is paramount, and service is second to none! I can only afford to go on special occasions, but look forward to the next visit.

Very nice restaurant with a cool atmosphere and exceptional service. But difficult to get to and unnecessarily expensive.

The service was amazing. However, I ordered a filet steak, and it was undercooked and had fast on it, which told me it wasn't a filet.
April 11,2023 - Still no call or email back about the food. I was told over a month ago someone would reach out to me and has not. This isnt a good look. I dont think Ill be returning

The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and the atmosphere was exceptional. I will definitely be back.

We just picked up a birthday dinner from Hy’s. I asked my partner to check the order before she left, because there were quite a few items. Both desserts, the Caesar salad, and the cheese toast was missing. Just as she was going to call the restaurant they called her and said they missed some items. She waited and again double checked what they brought out. They still were missing the cheese toast, but told her that she had it. She had to wait again and is finally on her way home. 15 minutes. I hope the steaks are OK. Very disappointing for Hys! How hard is it to read an order this early in the evening when there is no rush? !

There is nothing to say about the food. For carnivores, just choose from the prime series. For ladies, you can choose the classic series. The portion is not large and there are rich flavors to choose from. Wellington is also great. The last series of Diane steaks is available. As long as you have enough sense of ritual, this meal is prepared at the table, and it also has a "fuel on the fire" performance. As for the choice of appetizers, cheese toast is a must. If you like a sense of ceremony, you can add a salad, which is also prepared tableside.
PS: They no longer offer valet parking.

Ordered a ribeye with a side of mashed potatoes

The ribeye was a good cut of meat although it was paper thin and excessively salted. Coming from someone that loves to salt their steaks it was almost not edible. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant with a faint dish soap/chemical taste.

The service and atmosphere was definitely 5/5 but sadly I found the food was not. Considering the price I'd only give them 3/5

The place is gorgeous and the service was fantastic. Must get the cheese toast and banana foster.

Besides the very tender piece of meat (that was lacking in taste) and good waiter, the meal was bland and overpriced for the portion. Nice environment but the Keg is much better and much more flavorable.
