A relaxing and comfortable place to go for a winter get-a-way for a few days in Manitoba. Nice pool, both for kids and adults, sauna, spa, cross country ski trails and snowshoe trails. The resort was built a number of years ago but still very good and shows its age well. Staff are friendly and helpful and rooms are quite large and clean.

We visited here for a long weekend in July 2023. It was a good experience overall. We don't golf so there wasn't a ton to do other than hiking. There is a free DVD rental at the front desk which was fun and nostalgic. The spa was booked up even though we contacted them a week or two ahead of time, so I guess you have to book that really early and in advance. The rooms were nice. We loved the bath/shower with lots of tub room to have a relaxing bath. A couple of the pools and the sauna was out of service which I thought was weird for the summer, presumably their peak tourist season. We even called in advance to time our trio when the pools would be fixed and functioning, and they weren't. Also, they are very very hard to get a hold of then the phone. The place was pretty clean and they have a gift shop to buy snacks and treats which was cool. Staff were alright, somewhat disengaged. The fitness room is very small! Just a few pieces of cardio equipment. I hear this place was a bit more vibrant a long while ago before Lakeview took over.

This resort has a lot of potential but has some issues. Lots of things in disrepair.

Someone spilled ice cream on the floor next to the restaurant. It was never cleaned up. Just sat there for at least a day and a half.

Sort of wheelchair accessible, but not really as they don't have proper ramps on the doors outside near the restaurant. Lots of broken and sunken concrete and brickwork.

Don't count on any pool or waterpark features to be usable.

The whole resort lost water for a couple of hours while we were there. When it came back it was yellow for awhile.

Tennis courts listed on website are not part of the resort. Staff knows nothing when asked. Finally found them on my own. They are part of the provincial park. Take the path off the parking lot by the marina to find them.

Apparently parents are teaching their kids to be sociopaths without empathy for living creatures. A swarm descended while we were there as they caught frogs for fun in their nets, shook them around in their little cages before releasing them again an hour or two later. When staff was asked they just said it was sad, but that's what they do all summer long.

Rooms are dated, cigar burn on wall. Scratches on two other walls. Pools were not heated again, and that's why I go for the mineral pool. Afuer approximate 20 yrs we don't want to go anymore.

Only place to stay in Hecla, but unfortunately reservations are always full and reservations must be made months in advance
I wish if there is more shops or cafe there
The restaurant not clean outdoor so bad

My husband and I went for our staycation after our wedding and it was neither amazing nor bad. We stayed in what we assumed was a more recent addition to the main floor section of the hotel due to different hallway lights and the fact that you could distinctly tell where the air flow/air conditioning in the building started and stopped. We had our window AC unit going 24/7 and our clothing in the room still felt damp. When we arrived to our room we loved the nature view our the window, however quickly discovered that people are constantly walking by and can see into the rooms, resulting in us having to keep the blinds closed during our entire stay, leaving not much light in the room itself (room had 1 main light and 4 small bedside lights). Our bathroom also had mold on the walls which I am guessing is due to the fact that there was no fan for when the tub/shower was in use. The golf course and pool area was lovely. However the jets for the pool and cold tubs were out of order and the aroma sauna did not heat up. We were looking forward to utilizing the fitness center but was comprised of a treadmill that was out of order and an elliptical. We tried both the gull harbor restaurant and the seagulls restaurant, both were on the pricier side, decent food, however the amount of flies inside the restaurant was gross. You were constantly swatting while trying to eat. Enjoyed the trails that were available and the fact that there is limited wifi/internet that forces you to enjoy the outdoors and sight see but isn't a place I would recommend or visit again unfortunately.

Went to the restaurant here and it was super family friendly. Lots of kids running around everywhere but in a nice wholesome kind of way

Beautiful outdoors, lots of walking and bike trails. If yo plan on being outdoors most of the time, it's great. The room had a stale smell, smudges on the mirror, the sinks are tiny and the room was hot and humid and despite our best efforts we had zero control over the rooms temperature. Hot and humid and hard to be in. Hallways, especially elevator, smelled like vomit and cleaner. Food was mediocre. There seemed to be no dress code or uniform for staff and I couldn't tell the difference between visitor or staff. For a resort that's well known in Manitoba, it doesn't seem like it should be. Maybe it's lost it's touch. Not what I expected. Stale water in the so called running fountains. Maybe if the room was cooler it would have been a better experience. Met a lady with a family who had to move rooms cause there was mold in theirs. Restaurant server rocked it though. He was awesome! Wish I could have given a bigger tip. Room was at the very end of building, so hard to trek back and forth. Middle pool and hot tub was nice clean and pleasant. Just go with lowered expectations and you'll be thrilled. It's what I plan to do if I ever return. The heat and humidity of the room really affected me negatively. May have been better if I could have controlled the temperature. Not as clean, fancy, immaculate as one might think but still okay I guess. Massage therapist was the bomb though so make sure you see them. It might make up for some things.

The rooms were a little tired and could use a bit of an upgrade, but otherwise a great place for a staycation!

Also, thumbs up to Brayden and Roberto for their amazing customer service at the restaurant, as well as the overnight and day front-desk staff who went out of there way to ensure we enjoyed our stay!

Looking forward to go back:)

A perfect getaway place to find serenity and be closer to nature. We stayed for 2 nights and we really enjoyed our staycation. Rooms are nice but a little outdated. There were some visible molds on the bathtub tiles and floors are obviously not mopped (my kids' feet got dirty when they walked barefoot on the floor). Windows were not wiped and there were still handprints and stains from previous clients who stayed there (I guess). Our room is facing the north east side of the hotel and we had a great view of the forest and the magnificent Aurora Borealis! We were so lucky to see the northern lights on our 2 nights stay there. The staffs were all courteous and approachable. The family waterpark was awesome and the 3 ft slide was a hit! Unfortunately, 3 pools/hot tubs were out of order during that time. Food was great. There are lots of activities to do there and I can say that one night stay is not enough. 2 or 3 nights staycation would be the best to maximize all the indoor and outdoor activities at the resort. We are looking forward for our next visit here and we truly recommend visiting Hecla Lakeview Resort!

Unfortunately seems to have gone downhill. I went with 2 friends at the beginning of July and it was a pretty subpar experience, considering it was $515 for 2 nights.

The room was ok, but the bathtub and sink did not drain properly and the safe didn’t work. The pool area was also ok, but needs a lot of TLC and more cleaning- there was lots of rust, algae and dead bugs around. Massages at the resort are expensive with no other amenities really… the steam room was out of service and the shower area was quite gross with old towels and shampoo bottles strewn about. My friend’s massage also was canceled last minute.

The restaurant was very hit or miss in terms of food and service. I recommend going to the Lighthouse Inn down the road instead as it is honestly much better in every way.

We emailed the manager as well as guest services to address our concerns but have not received a response. We emailed on July 7 and it is now July 20 and still no response. We also filled in the automatic survey they send you with the same information and still nothing.

Anyway, I don’t usually write negative reviews, but I was just so disappointed with my stay at Hecla resort especially considering the cost to stay here during the summer! At this price point it is really unacceptable. It is really unfortunate as I had my wedding here a couple years ago and it has gone so downhill since then. I will not be visiting Hecla resort again unless things really change. I recommend camping or renting a parks cabin instead to enjoy the beauty of Hecla Island!

Okay the only reason why I am listing this place as a 3 star is not because of the staff and the amenities. Its because we had a terrible experience with other guests in our floor. Our floor was extremely loud pass a certain time, after 11pm it was supposed to br quiet. But there was people outside my door chatting till literally 3 am. I did not get any sleep at all at a place where I was supposed to relax.

But, their facilities are amazing the place is amazing the pools were warm. STAFF WAS AMAZING! Especially our food server kimmie was really nice.

This would have been a 5 star review if it wasnt for the other loud guests. Maybe nexttime when i go there again it will be relaxing.

Overrated. Wifi was terrible. My husband and I could not even open work emails. Please upgrade wifi services if this is a “resort”. Our room was not clean, sticky surfaces and moldy bathtubs. Two stars are for the great restaurant staff who were very attentive. However, we will not be returning to this resort.

Wasn’t very good or very bad. The building presents itself very differently from the interior, and that’s not a compliment. The lobby really brings you to think its a nice establishment with its lovely wooden carvings and glass art. When we first went to check in, service took long…

One of the hallways had a wretched smell that was soon removed the next day.

Now… I want to take a moment to talk about the fitness room. It is not a fitness room.

At all.

There are only two things you can do in that small office-sized room; one, use the elliptical, two- never mind the treadmill is out of order! Very impressive fitness room. Props to the thought of having a fitness room, always made me chuckle when I passed by it.

The swimming area was nice, love the variety of pools. Though I’d like to comment that the sauna wouldn’t go past 90F which isn’t very hot for a sauna, usually a sauna should be around 120-175F (depending if it is infrared or traditional). Whenever we tried turning it higher, it would stay at 90F.

It had some redeeming qualities:

1.very nice to be so close to nature and the trails were nice.

2. I was there for a family gathering, the food was decent but the pastries were really good! Thank you for those great pastries:) I want to congratulate whoever made that Red Velvet Cake with the cream cheese frosting, it was always the first one to go!
3. I also wanted to say that the staff who took our plates were very friendly.

The staff work very hard to make your stay comfortable. The green theme with restaurant discount is a hit. Beds are extremely comfortable and room size was great. Nice to see board games for families. Golf, pool and spa available. A good place to go to unwind, meet or relax. Quick trip to Gimli was also worth it. Enjoyed the meals!

Suggestions would be:
- Have water in room since tap water was not the greatest.
- Doors to rooms must have shifted due to humidity. Very hard to open and could be an issue in an emergency.
- We had very poor internet the entire time so that part was problematic.
- Pond should be cleaned so no rubbish (that blew in).
-They were short staffed when we visited but staff worked extra hard and were pleasant and efficient.

Clean rooms. Comfy beds. Friendly staff. Mineral spa is relaxing. Great golf course across the parking lot. Just be prepared to walk a long distance from your room back to amenities.

This hotel has a tired feel and is over priced for it’s current condition. The rooms were clean, food at restaurant was ok, not great. We didn’t use the pools as we were more interested in outdoor activities. The wifi was basically unusable as they use xplornet rather than faster options such as Starlink.

For future stays we will be trying the Lighthouse Inn or the parks vacation cabins.
13 September 2022 8:08
Room was nice, deep tub was amazing. Restaurant was decent, but could do with a few more vegetarian options. One out of the 4 pool was great.

Lobby and common areas smelled of fish, likely due to the stagnant, partially filled water feature that runs through. I’m sure this rips be really lovely if it was filled and flowing properly, but it was kind of icky. Not a great first impression… Ice pool was warm, warm pool was ice cold, steam room did not get up past 89 degrees due to a faulty steam unit and door that would not close, whirlpool was bathwater-warm at best.

WiFi was breathtakingly bad. Like worse than dial-up kind of bad. Definitely don’t stay here if you need to do anything that requires contact with the outside world.

Wife and I stayed and Hecla Resort and for the most part everything was great. Staff was very friendly and the resort is pet friendly. The room we were given had an intermittent smell which we think was caused by the air conditioning unit. Other than that our stay was enjoyable.

Nice resort, love the location and park. Although seems a bit run down in some areas, like the pool area. Rooms are overpriced at $230 night. Food in the restaurant was good, service was ok, they seem a bit understaffed during busy periods.

Rooms are starting to get tired. The restaurant had more of a diner feel. I expected the furnishings and meal to be much better for this resort. The menu is limited. The pools were amazing.
17 August 2022 21:18
Been calling for 3 days. No answer. Left a voicemail and emailed. ZERO response and no one has ever answered the front line, reservation line, or the 1800 number for all their hotels. They clearly may not need the business. Have never been there and will now, never go. Terrible service.

A friend and I booked a stay and play package at the Hecla Resort

Our overall stay was good and the package cost was very reasonable considering the nice, spacious room plus the round of golf at a very nice golf course.

However, our assessment of the hotel was not so complementar, in my terms, the hotel just lacks “finish” that a 3 star hotel should have.
Let me explain:
- upon arrival at the front door, i noticed that there are a couple of large gardens that should be filled with beautiful flowers, instead there were weeds
- as we got to the front door, there were piles of dirt and debris just left of the door, certainly someone could have cleaned/swept it up
- during check in, I noticed that there was an addition $120+ of other charges on the bill and when I asked what was that, the front desk person advised me that was taxes, I responded by saying $120 taxes on a $300 bill. He then tried numerous things on the computer and was not able to tell me what it was for. Then he asked someone else to help and the matter was resolved
- as we passed by the front desk a little later, i asked where is the best place to eat during our stay, the person responded by recommending a restaurant off the resort, not good news for the restaurant on site. Now, from experience of my abundant business and personal travel, this is not an uncommon response
- on the way for breakfast, we passed a lady who was washing the floor and we asked if the restaurant was open for breakfast and her response was “I dont know, ask them”. How can you work there and not know when the restaurant opens
- matre d took us to our table and dropped the menu, gave is water & cutlery and walked away. Couldnt she ask us if we wanted coffee?
- my poached egg order came with a pubic hair on one of the eggs! Server was quite embarrassed about it and quickly escaped back to the kitchen. Not very comfortable eating the replacement order. In my opinion, the restaurant manager should have offered an apology to me, and offered the plate as complimentary.
- the windows between the patio and restaurant are quite dirty and provably never been cleaned for months, on a couple there was evidence of someone tried to clean them but made such a mess, they should have just left them alone.
So, these are the “finish” items that would make this an excellent destination and justify the 3 star rating

This place costs a pretty penny to stay at, but for special get-aways I think it's worth it. The food is great, the rooms are great, the pool and spa area is great, the scenery and hiking around the Island are great! I'm for sure coming here again.

Kudos to Charles Z at the front desk. He was very helpful and attentive to our questions when we checked in. He explained the changes since our last visit, like pool access, green program. He also suggested that we take advantage of the fire pit, which we did! We had a great time making smores. We forget to bring campfire sticks though but Charles solved that problem for us and provided us access to the resort’s campfire sticks.

The lady that was on duty in the front desk on the morning of July 1 was also helpful. I was feeling a bit under the weather and she was able to give me some ibuprofen.

Hotel staff was great!

Great food! Great bar service! Poor wifi, needs more fresh air at lobby. Needs more activities. Will prefer a room with warmer colours

Rooms are nice, but could use a little repair. Could use a recaulk of the tub because the current silicone has mold
