I used to love MEC. But ever since the transition from "co-op" to "company" I've noticed a real shift in the shopping experience. The still carry quality gear from brands I love, but shopping here is becoming too difficult to be worth it. Staff seem generally passive and disinterested in offering help. Now they've seemingly done away with hook markers that have descriptions and prices for products. Instead, every hook is labeled "mountain equipment company" and you're left hoping you can find a price sticker on the item itself - which more times than not requires removing an item and searching all sides. I'll find a new store for my hiking, camping, and paddling gear.

Tried to shop here. Didn’t seem to be very interested in my business. Sure we came in for a back pack at 6: 43 pm and they close at 7pm, but guess what …. You’re open till 7pm!
Maybe you shouldn’t be paid till 7 pm then!

I’ll spend my money elsewhere and I’ll be sure to urge others to do the same.

Next time instead of repeatedly telling a CUSTOMER you’ll be closing in 15 minutes perhaps offer to be of assistance.

Store sells quality stuff. The staff at this location was virtually non existent. After waiting for over a half hour to speak with someone about my purchasing options, having asked for help at the front counter, I finally left with nothing in hand but disappointing customer service and a bad taste in mouth.

Be carefull, only been there once so far and this happened. Make sure you question the cashiers and pay attention to the numbers they scan.
Obviously they sell quality product which is not true with their service, maybe its just a new employee or an actual setup. Was there to check out and get a few items on sale, picked up about 6 items and gave it to the cashier, she started scanning and I noticed that the screen that faces me does not show the prices, I asked her why its not showing anything even though the screen was on, she didn't know and I noticed same thing with other cashiers, I asked about the total and she told me a number which was too high by about $100, I asked her if she paid attention scanning my items and she said yes, then I started pointing out each item and that the sticker had a different price then what she did, so out of 6 items I would of overpaid for 5 of them by about $100 if I wouldn't of questioned her work. So not sure how many people did and how many didn't pay attention but its an issue of trust!

Was happy to find some pants that were on sale, but then noticed in small print that the sign said "marked items only". I searched through the whole rack, but could not find one "marked item". When I got to the cashier and had to pay full price, I told him that the signage "THESE PANTS ON SALE" (but not on sale), was quite misleading, and should be changed. He appeared very disinterested in my comments.

They sell quality items, but the bike shop had me coming back in person 3 separate times. They kept promising me that my bike would be built. The 1st time, an employee told me “we’re understaffed and backlogged”. The 2nd time, they said “the paperwork was filled out incorrectly” on their end. As far as I’m concerned, the bike shop is useless.

First time in for awhile. Found the quality to be lacking - not as many high end products but the prices were high.

The security guy keep following us untill we paid and left the store. There's other customer in this store but he only followed me my husband and my baby.this is the first time i came here i just want to shop some bike and baby bike trailer but i feel i got judged by my race.meanwhile other customers came into store he didn't follow them the entire time he was just following me.so it's really obvious he thinks we are "more dangerous". It's a good store but racist

Was looking for climbing shoes. Was exciting going in. If im wearing sneakers, my shoe size is 11, which I feel isn't that big. They staff told me they usually sell size 8-10 im climbing shoes and to check back in the new year as they had no climbing shoes that could fit me. Very dissapointing.

Helpful staff, great return policy, durable products and clothing items. Great place! I highly recommend!

Service here is horrible anytime I’ve ever gone in here the manager was horribly rude asked if I was a member and they had my phone number under the wrong person after finding out that clearly wasn’t me no one explained what their membership had to offer. I’ve shopped here a few times and service never fails it’s always terrible especially considering your spending a couple hundred dollars each time going in.

Staff belligerent and online customer service was inappropriate. Never shop there, I know I won’t. They won’t be in business much longer

The staff are tripping over themselves to help you out in every department, except the one department I need help, shoes! I couldn't find anyone to get me shoes to try on, when I did, he disappeared as soon as he gave me the shoes, didn't bother to see how they fit. I needed another size, so I had to track him down again, and again he disappeared as soon as I had the shoes, which didn't fit. It felt like I was a huge inconvenience to him, and I ended up getting shoes that didn't fit well. I won't buy shoes from here again, everything else is great.

Some good experiences but most recently I put a bike on hold here and then received a call from them after I drove five hours to pick it up that they had sold it to someone else.

One of the best stores in Winnipeg for camping gear, and related stuff. Good selection, quality products, helpful staff.

Seems like a great place to buy bike accessories for men, as the dude that arrived after me received a joyful hello, was offered assistance even though he wasn’t seriously considering buying anything, including a trip to the back. I, a woman, should have been grateful I was allowed inside, I guess. I was completely ignored despite standing right next to an employee desperately rifling through bike lights to find the expensive one I planned on purchasing.

Great store that stands behinds its products, with fantastic service and a great return policy. I love shopping here!

Always great customer service at MEC Winnipeg. I've had most of my equipment stolen just before a trek and staff helped going through an itemized purchasing list quickly. On the few times I've had equipment fail, MEC employees always helped having the items repaired or replaced.

Exceptionally good customer service, even for an infrequent customer. They went above and beyond in a way I wouldn't expect from any business.

Bike repair shop= Very bad customer service!

Dropped off rims and tires that needed replacing. Had to order parts in so told me would be ready in about 2 weeks. Called 2 weeks later and said my parts were back-ordered and they were ordering today.

I mentioned that it would be good to advise the customer if it was going to take longer than initially quoted; to give me quick call next time there's a delay. The 'head mechanic' sounded irked by this suggestion and refused to acknowledge this. His manager came on the line and apologized immediately. This was fine and resolved quickly. I still said I was going to take my business elsewhere bc the 'head mechanic' was acting like it was a pissing contest. No customer service.

Had to call back because they had my rotors which I had dropped off with the broken rims 2 weeks prior. 'Head mechanic' had no idea where they were- I asked if he had looked for them- no. Calls me back and says they're not there. I buy new ones and then they call me back again and say that they do have them.

These people wasted my time and money and I will not be going back. Got the job done at Olympia on Portage- while I waited!

Great service. Had a return/exchange item. They didn’t have in stock. But they had it shipped from another store across the country (BC) and it came in 1.5 days. Very impressive

I like this store. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. They have high quality outdoor camping, hiking, running, winter and cycling equipment and clothing. They also have a nice selection of casual clothing. The washrooms have composting toilets and are clean. Their return policy is also very good.

The stores never carry enough stock. Bike helmets for toddler girl only had one option for girls with head circumference of 55 cm (21").

Great gear, great service. Just did a top-notch job on a minor repair on an MEC jacket I have had for 25+ years.that says it all.

Good and friendly customer service! They had a good selection of sale clothing. It is a good idea to check what they have instore through their website before you go, especially if you are looking for something that is not in season anymore.

Awesome selection of outdoors and sports gear. Good prices and helpful friendly staff! I always check MEC first whenever I am considering a outdoors, sports, or fitness purchase. Highly recommended!

My order arrived and everything was good but costumer service rep forgot to process my refund and been waiting for my cheque to come for a month only to find out that they completely forgot about it.they didnt process it untill i send them a msg about this i was waiting for a month for nothing just to come to this day to find out they forgot about it

Staff at cashier highly distracted by answering phones, checking sale prices and long lines of customers.

I will continue to go to MEC for my personal items or gifts for families. Friendly staff clean store really great prices for the Canadian Market.

Waited any to long for help was give a higher priced shoe then the one I wanted.which in turn made an already long wait longer don't recamend going there

This Mec is really nice. It is multi level with a very cozy feel. I had trouble finding a size of gloves and the staff was very helpful.

Overall I am always impressed with MECs virtual merchandising and quality of products and of course their rock solid guarantee.

Nice store, tons of great products, outstanding outdoor source for equipment, on the expensive side but keep an eye open for sales

When I first started shopping at MEC 15 years ago it was the MEC brand that drew me in. I could find comparable quality items for half the price of competitors. I'm really not sure what happened, but now it's maybe 20% savings vs a competitors brand at 20% quality of the other brand. This is unfortunate, and it's so bad that even a stingy scrooge like me completely avoids their products.

The Winnipeg store seems to prefer stocking the MEC products, and I find most high end products aren't even stocked here. This leads to me buying 3 or 4 items to compare and returning the ones I don't choose, and lately I've been pressured to accept store credit instead of straight up refunds. I don't WANT to put $6000 on credit just so I can see 3 or 4 products they don't want to stock at the location I have access to, but that's the only way it's possible to see the higher end items. They should either try to stock at least a few higher end items, or accept that this is the position they've forced people into if they want to see and compare items they don't stock in local stores.
