Hired out Jordan Trotter to do painting at my freshly renovated house in Mid July. Though the paint job was good, there are various things of mention here when considering Jordan. I should note that I instantly referred Jordan to another paint job after initial communications with him, in which I then ask them to rescind due to my interactions with him during the job. Lastly - during my initial call where Jordan gives me pricing, he asks for me to give him a 5/5 review for his pricing.

1) Upfront, Jordan's customer service was awesome - talked me through some scenarios of when I should get him in in conjunction to the half dozen other trades I had working for me. Instantly my wife and I were sold.

2) Jordan ends up doing a walkthrough of my home solo, and explains to me there is yellowing on the ceiling in most of the rooms (which my wife and I had never noticed) - and also mentions to me that he believes the house to have had smokers previously, and that the house was "occupied by smokers, and painted a smokers color".

3) Jordan asks me to buy some very specific ceiling paint, from Dulux. I had a call earlier in the day with Jordan re: the job as he had asked me to keep following up with him weeks leading up to the day he would paint because he could not give me a concrete day/time in which he would start. The day I go to Dulux, Jordan tells them to mention his name there so I do - and when I do the Dulux fella asks me to call Jordan to see if I can use his account for the paint to receive a discount - I try calling, he sends me to voicemail, then instantly texts me "I'm going to have to start charging you for these phone calls".

4) Fast forward to the day Jordan starts, at this point I'm already getting a weird feeling but I have a baby coming, work needs to get done, can't change directions so I continue with Jordan. He does another walkthrough of my house upon arrival, notices I have painted the door jams with white paint/no primer, and tells me that's just going to yellow because Nicotine is going to come through the wood, because it was a smokers house. The next weird thing is that Jordan ends up coming himself, and bills me the same rate as the two guys he was going to send - and then dangles the fact he may not be able to finish in the allotted time and that he would need to also bring his supervisor at an additional 600/day. This doesn't end up happening but my final invoice goes up almost 50% - and leaves me scrambling on whether or not he would finish on time.

5) Jordan starts painting - he patches what we missed, compliments my dads work on patching, everything in my eyes is going well, until Jordan starts to do the ceiling. He mentions to me that the ceiling will yellow overtime, because it was a smokers home (this is on his last day painting, as he left ceilings for last). I then ask my wife, I wonder why he would of not primed the ceiling - so I ask Jordan. He replies because he didn't know it was a smokers home. I'm confused at this point because of all the previous dialog we had about yellowing, etc. He left us with a very sour taste of, wow my house was just painted but the final product could decay overtime because a crucial mistake of not priming the ceiling, which wasn't even offered to us. We aren't the professionals - I shouldn't have to provide him the options - I just want the best product/outcome from someone highly recommended.
Jordan then gets very defensive over text, and just replies "Pay the bill" (less then a few hours from receiving the bill, which is subsequently paid minutes after).

TL;DR:
Communication poor
Condescending attitude throughout
No appreciation for referred work.
Did not spec out the job correctly, a prime coat should of been at least OFFERED even at an increase dollar amount.
Paint job on walls ended up great.
Charged hourly, though often times Jordan would take long calls / be sitting waiting for paint to dry / etc. This is a side-effect of hourly work - though at $65/hour.tough to see.
50% increase from initial invoice.

Jordan did a excellent job of freshening up our condo. He was responsive, fast, helpful and professional. I will be using Mid-Canada again.
