The recorded self-guided audio tour, recorded by a member of the staff (who was at the front desk) was fascinating. The use of the headset is included in the entry fee.

My wife and are were travelling across Canada and decided to go a bit out of our way and check out Gimli. We had heard of the history and as such we made certain to go to the New Iceland museum. It was a very worthwhile side trip and I highly recommend it. As an avid history buff I learned stuff there that I had no clue about. Who knew there is a "New Iceland"? Not me.

A great museum telling the story of the early settlers to New Iceland & how it had become a multicultural community.

So much history and totally worth the stop! You can tell they really care where there ancestors come from & take pride in teaching!

Honestly, save your money unless you're excruciatingly bored or curious. The best part of the museum was a short 8 minute film with a historical explanation accompanied by dramatization. There were some interesting displays of minerals and rocks. And a couple old bits of wood. The gift store possessed for sale authentic icelandic sweaters and a few other trinkets and handmade crafts from iceland.
All in all I was very disappointed in the displays and lack of information.
It is wheel chair accessible, washrooms available, has student discounts, and took about 10 minutes to go through. If you read every single word, it would take maximum an hour. It was open on a Sunday and run by volunteers.
Low stars because it lacked a lot of information that could be in there and costs far too much for what you get.
