The food was absolutely fantastic! We started with cheeses which were great, thenI had a gnocchi dish and it was delicious. Our server was great, very friendly and helpful. Our booth was cozy and faced a big picture window, great for people watching. Perfect for date night!

Had a great experience there, first time having a cheese charcuterie board, 10/10 love the flavours and selection given to us (we told them to surprise us). Fringe festival was going on on the other street, the atmosphere was amazing!

This place is painfully average for the prices they charge. I remember the food being way tastier a few years ago.

The poutine was ok, fries were undercooked and gravy was fine but nothing special. Ribs were way too salty and had a weird scent to them. French Onion soup was very bland and lacked a decent amount of cheese and bread on top. The chocolate tart slice for dessert tasted great but the portion was extremely small.

Edit: Downgrading to a one star from three based on my last visit. Servers looked and acted absolutely miserable at the table, everything took forever, food was average. This restaurant is off our list, MUCH better places in Winnipeg to spend your hard earned money.

Server was a bit quick to try and remove plates and everything while one diner was still eating. Felt very rushed on a once year trip to see family and enjoy a meal

We ate PÂTÉS DE CAMPAGNE on a Friday afternoon, the service was excellent, the exchange district atmosphere was lively with jazz music. Amazing choice of beers. Highly recommended!

The waitstaff was attentive and friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment of walking in.
Came for Wednesday Buck-a-shuck oysters (great value on their own) but every dish we had (Peasant Pie, Gnocchi) were full of flavour.

Day 12 of my pre birthday celebrations and in pursuit of discovering the new (possible) home city’s food. Today has been the best meal we’ve had so far.

This restaurant is in the historic Exchange District of YWG and housed in one of the many turn-of-the-century beautifully preserved masonry structures in one of Canada’s designated historic sites.

The mode was casual and the ambiance had this quirky old world charm.

Service was outstanding! 10/10!

We ordered:
Starters:
*CHICKEN LIVERS. $19
Pan-fried with brandy peppercorn sauce, baguette toast. I hate liver but I loved the rich flavours of the sauce. WOWZA and YUMZA! The president said the livers had this amazing flavour profile and had beautiful texture. He finished the entire dish. 10/10!
* PORK DRY RIBS. $16
Baby back ribs braised then fried until crisp, with chili and lime. The ribs was soft but not fall-off-the-bone so they were just perfect. The caramelized crust added more flavours and texture to these delectable bites. WOWZA and YUMZA! 10/10!
Mains:
*HOUSE SAUSAGE MEATBALL PAPPARDELLE. $28
Smoked tomato and pepper cream sauce, garlic, onions, arugula and chêvre cheese. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was a real winner. The meatballs were just ok. 8/10!
*PORK CHOP. $36
Roasted root vegetables, green beans, pickled apples and grainy mustard jus. The chop was pure perfection. So tender, juicy and just packed with incredible flavours. The mustard jus elevated the sensational texture and flavours to another level. WOWZA and YUMZA 20/10!

A remarkable culinary experience for sure.

Loved it. Came for my birthday.

I had a zero proof Sam Ross (also known as The Penicillin) which was amazing.

They served some nice breads, with whipped butter.

We had the escargot vol au vent to start. The escargot itself was rubbery. The hilight of the dish were the roast cherry tomatoes, in the sauce. I think that should be the focus of this dish.

We had Gnocchi and the special, which was their take on Sheppard's pie. The Gnocchi melts in your mouth. It's amazing. Absolutely get it.

The Sheppard's pie was good; it was served in a hot cast iron skillet, with mashed potatoes. The meat was a combination of beef and bison. It had nice flavours. Unfortunately the presentation of the potatoes reminded me of something not so appetizing.

Service was great. It was quite loud in the restaurant, but the ambiance was nice.

Just to happened to discover this restaurant and our experience here was amazing. The service, the presentation and the vibe was great. The beef carpaccio absolutely was my favourite which was delicious and well presentation. Don’t forget to reserve a table as it might get really busy.

A real casual, yet bit upscale restaurant with a real nice food offering with excellent service.

Everybody in our party enjoyed their meals. I was looking forward to the Bison meatloaf, but it had been taken off the menu. The chicken liver appetizer was amazing and for a light eater, could almost work as a entree with another side. My wife had the tourtiere, and although it was a bit overcooked, was still very tasty.

Our waiter Gary did a great job and had us well looked after.

We try and make it back to the Peasant Cookery 3 - 4 times a year and it never disappoints.

Peasant Cookery is a delightful spot for charcuterie, oysters on the half shell, and classic French favorites.

The food is all presented beautifully, but only giving 4 stats as the French onion soup and gravy on the steak frites was very sweet. Sweet beyond normal French onion soup level of sweet.

On the other hand, the chicken liver paté with pickles and grainy mustard was out of this world, as was the escargot on puff pastry.

And, as it was Wednesday, it was buck-a-shuck oysters - well worth the visit.

The steak was cooked as requested, but the volume of fries was overwhelming - almost couldn't see the steak!

I'm sure if we go back it would be a 5 star experience. Service was great and interior is atmospheric.

The vibe of the restaurant is very vintage classic. There are subtle hints of later 1600’s in the finishings of the Decor.

The menu itself has a great selection of seafood and bistro items. The executive chef deserves an award! Love the appetizer selection. I had the oysters, they were divine. I also ordered the steak frite for my meal, the cook was perfect and the wine ju was also delicious. I will be visiting again in the future on my next trip to Winnipeg.

We come here often for buck a shuck on Wednesday night! Sometimes for dinner but usually late night after kids activities. Great spot to unwind and have a few drinks and snacks! We had oysters, a cheese plate (which they always have an amazing selection) desserts and drinks. My husband always try’s all the beer they have on selection and I always get a glass of red which is reasonably priced at $14 for a 9oz and heavy pour at times! Great friendly service and food comes out fast. Ambiance is dimmed and great spot for conversations and good times!
Make sure to make a reservation for Wednesday’s as its always packed.

My favourite restaurant in Winnipeg.it’s a chic place with fun decorations. The wait staff works tirelessly to provide you with a pleasant polite experience. The food is PHENOMENAL and doesn’t take long at all to receive once ordered. The homemade bread is to die for.
A great selection of appys.
Make sure you call ahead for a reservation so you’re not disappointed!

Truly felt like a peasant! The only restaurant in Winnipeg to offer the peasant experience! Peasant Cookery truly redefined the peasant dining experience!

Not great. I’ve been here 3 times in the last 6 months as I was trying to avoid the typical spots in downtown. Although the dishes are somewhat unique- the prices, experience, and wait times overshadow it. The wait times were long all 3 times that I visited.
