Rae & Jerry's Steak House

Our recent experience at Ray & Jerry's left much to be desired, earning it a solid one-star rating in our books. From the moment we stepped foot into the establishment, it was evident that the atmosphere lacked warmth and hospitality.

Despite our best efforts to enjoy our meal, the behavior of the servers tainted our dining experience beyond repair. Not only were they visibly irritated when we made simple requests, such as asking for steak sauce or additional orders, but they were also caught making faces behind our backs.

Such unprofessional conduct is unacceptable in any dining establishment, and it reflects poorly on the overall ambiance and service quality of the restaurant. It's disappointing to encounter such behavior, especially when diners are simply seeking to enhance their dining experience with reasonable requests.

In light of these egregious actions, we cannot in good conscience recommend Ray & Jerry's to anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience. It's a shame that the lack of professionalism overshadowed any potential enjoyment we could have derived from the meal.

Great vibe as many other reviews have noted.

The food is ok considering the price point (around $40-50 for a main). Steaks were cooked exactly as ordered, pretty plain. Sides were mediocre.

Had an early dinner reservation but after a bit felt pressured to vacate the table. Was subtle but not welcome nonetheless.

Otherwise service was great.

Over priced for sub par food. Every meal over cooked under seasoned. Will never go back there. Couldn’t even finish my meal so bad, wouldn’t even take home the leftovers for my dog.

Perfectly cooked steaks! Had a Filet Minon with baked Potato. Steak was cooked too perfection
The side salad was fresh, and the Blue Cheese dressing was fantastic

Great service! Great old steak house atmosphere. Food was delicious, but I wish they had a better selection of hot appetizers. We usually have a couple appetizers before dinner but didn't at Rae & Jerry's sincer there were none. But we will certainly return.

We went here with friends for a nice evening. I’d never been to Rae and Jerry’s before but I’ve heard great things about it. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful, thought it was a bit warm inside. I love the classy theme. The first problem was the wait. After all was said and done, we spent 3 hours in there. We waited over 2 hours for our food. Don’t get me wrong though, our servers were wonderful. They were fast and very kind. Regarding the food. I ordered a Rib Eye Steak Sandwich. It tasted wonderful. The one problem was the steak was a bit cool. For dessert, I had the Cherry Cheesecake to go. They gave me a high quality paper bag (environmental bonus!) to go. The cheesecake was simply delicious! Rather than that, I enjoyed my experience at Rae and Jerry’s, and would recommend checking it out.

This is a tough one. I wish I could have given more stars. Loved the time machine effect of walking into this place. Reminded me of some of the nostalgic restaurants you find in Vegas. It is a trip down memory lane for sure.
I was invited out to this restaurant which I know is a legendary steakhouse. I had hoped they evolved a little to include non meat eaters. Nope. However I will say the food my meat eating friends ordered looked AMAZING!
The fries were good and the tossed was ok and food for thought the only plant based options available.
So the rating is mixed. 5 stars for the meat eaters for sure. And I would likely have left the rating at 4 stars if the server didn't suggest Caesar or Greek salad as vegan options.basically informing me they were unaware what vegan means.
I am not suggesting they have to cater to me or any other plant based eaters. But the average age in there is getting pretty high, so may want to pivot ever so slightly to allow for a mixed table of eaters to share a meal together in this amazing little piece of nostalgia.
If you eat meat and LOVE that throw back style (which I personally enjoy) of restaurant that transports you to another time Rae and Jerry's is your best option.

Ambience food and service we’re all spot on. Felt like walking into a well kept time machine - this place is awesome.

Fun, retro-kitsch steakhouse. Great prime rib. Save room for dessert (portions are gargantuan, so don't be afraid to share)!

This place is arguably the best steak house in Winnipeg. I normally find steak houses to be extremely disappointing because they tend to fail at the one thing they claim to be experts in- the steak. Not so at Rae and Jerry's. These guys get great quality meat and know how to cook it. They don't rely excessively on salts, rubs, or sauces to hide the taste of the meat. The beef was marbled and cooked to perfection. I tried a bit of their chicken and it was pretty good too. They are very generous with their pricing given the quality and quantity of their food, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is great too. I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to know what real steak tastes like.

Reliable good meat and drinks. Staff was very friendly. Prices are a bit on the high side, but then again you get excellent quality

Food was average and service was poor. Half our table did not get their proper sides and took along time to get your drinks and food.

Great to visit " An Old Friend Again ". Had a chance to take my wife and son for a great steak this past Monday. I had visited Winnipeg years ago on a regular basis on business and always tried to enjoy a meal at Rae & Jerry's each visit. Thanks to our Server, Garth who made the visit great. I would travel from Ontario anytime for a Rae & Jerry's meal. See you again.soon.

Upon arrival our hostess came outside to take a memorable photo of the six of us under the Rae & Jerry's sign - a good start! We had requested a round table for the six of us and ended up with the corner round table I was hoping for. Nice Stella Artois on tap followed by an absolutely outstanding mushroom soup [I'm talking really surprisingly good]. Most of us had the bone in Prime Rib which was excellent [end cut superb according to one] and certainly generous servings. Resulted in 2 dog bones for John's beasts and another 2 terrific bones for Donna's dust collector that we secured in the take home containers provided. Solid fresh green beans and baked potato rounded out a dinner enjoyed by all. Nice that we were able to converse at a normal volume. Noticeably clean washroom as well, and easy ample parking appreciated. Thanks for exactly the evening I had hoped for! It kinda was a special night for us and Rae and Jerry's did not drop the ball - sort of what the better restaurants try to do but don't always accomplish. Congrats.

Great place! Its where I would go to eat if I were a 1980's mafia guy! Very vintage feel right down to the basket of bread they put at your table. Steaks were the best!

Our rib eye sandwich looked like it was cooked in the microwave. I have seen others post similar so I wasn’t about to make a scene about it since I figured it was normal. We expressed our dissatisfaction with our waitress who provided great service but it ended there. After looking at other reviews here, some have posted much better looking meat/food. I’m not sure how there could be such different experiences among customers but it’s too bad because I really wanted to love this place.: (I suggest staying far away.

Food ok decor very outdated. We got together after a long time with friends. Our server was allways around. Interrupting couldn't figure out why. Then she finally said they wanted to close a hour earlier because they had no more reservations. After the prices they charge at least let the guests have a good time. Still gave a good tip.

Fantastic service from our waiter Garth. He knew the menu and he's fun and interesting. The T-bone cut like butter and tasted so good.
My wife's filet and baked potato were delicious.and then there was the split pea soup. It was all 1st class in typical Rae & Jerry's style

As usual good food and good service. Staff all wear masks, however the restaurant does not require customers to wear masks when not seated. Manitoba's chief provincial public health officer has written that he will choose to continue wearing masks in indoor public places, which is what I do. If customers were required to wear masks I would have rated Rae & Jerry's 5 stars.

Server was very friendly & the atmosphere is pretty neat. But the food is def way over priced & a little old fashioned. Food was very good, but just over priced.

Great food as always! We had to take the lounge instead of the dining hall. Only downside is that the lounge wasn't the best vibe for our family (we had our baby with us) overall great service and food however we will not take our son with us next time. Highly recommend the food!

I had the 20oz t-bone and it was really well cooked. I've enjoyed my visits here but I guess it was just coming back from the pandemic that kept it from 5 stars for me.

With an app and a main our table was told that there was a mishap in the kitchen, it eventually made its way to our table so no complaints there. I obviously though can't give it a 5 star review after that: -p

I've been to Rae & Jerry's several times. What an experience!
Think a cross between 1950's Rat-pack meets the Overlook Lodge from the Shining. The service staff have to wear polyester, fire-engine red nurses dresses from the era as well. So order one of their signature Manhattans and enjoy.
The place is clearly preferred by The Greatest Generation; one thing you have to wrap your head around is the idea that you will be the youngest customer there at any given moment. Why do they start every meal with glass of tomato juice? Old Scottish tradition that no one else does anymore (I'm from Scottish heritage and I've never heard of it before my grandparents explained it to me.)
The food is amazing, one of the best steaks I've ever had and surprisingly, i really liked their onion salad (you can only order it if your spouse does too ;). Even their coffee is great!
I have to share the last time we went there as a family, an employee overheard us as we walked out and my Dad muttered something about the lobster being a little dry. He wasn't complaining, my Dad just needs to make observations like that. He also wasn't talking to the staff, we were talking to each other about how great the meal was.
The next morning the Manager called my parents at home and gave them a $50 gift card because of 'the dry lobster' my father tried to refuse, telling them he really enjoyed his meal.
That is some next level customer service!
P.s. Please don't use this as an excuse to complain about dry lobster

Two stars only cause they have a patio setting going on. Otherwise nothing to say about this. Food presentation and taste was horrible and the place is very "old". People over at reddit say it's good but I was disappointed.

Was really looking forward to my visit as per reviews but was kinda disappointed but I guess for the price its right.
They got good drink choices and the steaks are adequate. If you want better steaks you have to pay more, there are better places in the city but more expensive.

The soup of the day was onion soup which was just super salty and not edible.

The staff here makes a difference and the ambiance was nice.

Ray & Jerry's is always great service and very high quality food! Excellent catering service as well. The owner Steve is a class act.

Good food and service and not too noisy. The house red was tasty. The bar was packed and looked like fun, will check it out another time.

Went to this steak house for Valentines day. Was busy so booked reservations in the lounge. The dinner was amazing. Large portions; great quality steak. Left with almost a whole meal leftover. Service was pretty good; waitress obviously busy so small delay in returns. Nice atmosphere comfy seating. I would go back forsure.

Not impressed, although the service was decent. Had a $21 shrimp caesar salad with wilted lettuce some croutons and parmesan on top.
Could have made a better salad at home for a lot less.
The person I was with had a clubhouse sandwich that fell apart due to small soggy bread.
Not what I would call high class expensive worthy food!

I visited the Lounge at Rae & Jerry’s last night with a colleague. It was my second time, and just as I remembered it. I’m sure people have been saying this for decades. Despite its age, the decor is very comfortable. Worry not; the washrooms are fully updated. The prime rib sandwich was excellent, as was my colleague’s steak sandwich. He might have captured the essence of their lounge best when he said that you can’t help but feel relaxed and chill in their lounge; the vibe is very mellow, and the service was great. If you’re in Winnipeg, don’t miss this gem!

Rae & Jerry's was pretty good, but the clientele trends towards an older demographic so unless you're in that age group you might feel out of place. The interior is also very art deco-ish and feels somewhat dated.

While the food was pretty good, I'm not sure I would go back. You just feel out of place entirely, and that's not something that happens very often. (And when it does it's usually for different reasons).

If you like throwback to the 60's and 70's, this is the place to go! In all seriousness, food and service was exceptional but the decor is in need of updates.

My husband and I went here for Valentine’s Day 2020.

Our waitress - Alvina was very friendly and attentive. The Decor was old-school and vintage. Loved it.

My husband ordered the New York strip loin and it was cooked perfectly and delicious.

I had ordered the T-bone steak - Medium - and it arrived Rare. I did send it back and requested that they cook it to a Medium Well. When Alvina returned with my meal - it was over - cooked - Well Done.

We did order dessert, but the chocolate cake ended up being Very Dry.

Our waitress was very apologetic and of course took the meal off our Bill. But - did not comp us our desert or offer us anything to come back in the Future - which was disappointing.

Not sure If we will be back.

Best steak I've ever had. Worth every penny, if you still have room after the meal, try the cheesecake dessert. It changed me

I wouldn't say a place like Rae & Jerry's is my default go to for lunch, but as a tag along for a retirement lunch, I was pleanty surprised with the non-steak options. The decor is vintage old school cool, wood paneling and I would imagine this is the sort of joint the rat pack would have frequented back in the day. The clientele are of the repeat customer variety. This is a true institution. Could the place use a breath of fresh air, maybe, but why mess with a proven formula?

Hit the cocktail room for cheap old timey drinks (Martini, etc). Not sure if the food still stands up but it's a nostalgia trip.

Absolutely professional staff, back of the house and front. Wonderful atmosphere. Would strongly recommend for beef; they know what they're doing.

Waited for over an hour with family for a reservation we had made. Servers were awesome tho and food was pretty on par with the price.

Excellent Breakfast served on weekends. Love the atmosphere. Breakfast was $16-17 and included 2 eggs, bacon, Sausage, potato hash, orange juice and housemade toast. Coffee extra.

Great Meals, Great Staff. It's no wonder this place has been a Winnipeg Icon for Decades, for Steak ＆ Prime Rib dishes. Highly recommended, you do pay a higher price, but it is worth it.

Sat in the lounge side, wasn't impressed with the menu options, had the deluxe burger, rings, and a bloody Caesar, asked for the Caesar extra spicy, it had no spice, patty for the burger didn't hold together well, ended up with a lot of extra bun, rings were okay, batter was doughy in spots, coleslaw lacked any sort of flavour

Everything was perfect! The place for great steak, seafood, drinks, etc. We like to celebrate here when we can, and we're not disappointed! Amazing dinner, and even more amazing pecan pie for dessert. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs, was funny, and treated us like friends. I'm glad we chose to go here tonight - worth the drive.

The quintessential retro dining experience. The room is beautiful and the staff are fantastic and “on the ball”. The portions are monster and the experience is memorable. I would highly recommend dropping in for some chicken fingers and a martini.

Had dinner here tonight. Wonderful food as always. Our server Jaclyn was super awesome and very easy to communicate with - always appreciate that! The atmosphere always makes me so happy too. All around a great time!

One of Winnipeg’s long-standing restaurants. Features a traditional steakhouse menu. Free parking. Interior has remained largely unchanged since it opened in 1956. Excellent service, and true comfort food.

My boyfriend and I came here last night for dinner. While our service was wonderful, the food itself was mediocre at best. The mash tasted like instant potatoes, they were clumpy and startchy. My mushrooms were soggy as all hell, and our cake we had for dessert was so incredibly dry. Overall we were rather dissapointed. Safe to say we probably won't come back.

Everything on the menu is delicious and I dream about the desserts. Great coffee and liquor, wine collection. Staff is always pleasant and service consistent.

Classy with a nostalgic feel. Quality, quantity, and service all combine to make an unforgettable experience.

I came to Winnipeg for a music concert and stopped here for a steak.

We were in the lounge part and it's just so. I can't explain it.it's comfy!

The food is so good! And the portions are huge! Like HUGE!

The service was great and holy cow, the food was out in no time!

My sister had a clubhouse and the thing was so stacked!

We went for lunch and the food was good, the portions generous, and the delivery prompt. Not a Hy's kind of place, so not sure if I'd go there for supper.

Drink wise, my Martini was adequate, my beer local and good. I took a look at the wine list and it is pretty tame, topping out with Caymus as the high end red.

Still, absolutely worth a visit for lunch. Really good old school charm. Lots of parking, professional service.

Went for a business lunch. It was my first visit and the food and ambiance was excellent. If you want to feel like you will see Frank Sinatra walking by this is a place to visit. The decor was a blast from the past. Will return the next time I am in Winnipeg.

Very pricey (minimum menu price was around 30$+) but you get soup, salad and a side as well. The food was okay I ordered the steak and lobster (47$) and it seemed that the main course was bland, I couldn't even taste the meat. I highly enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, going with a mainly red color scheme really sets a mood. Overall it was an ok experience, definitely a place for an occasion.

Great food. The server is kinda snobby. We tried to get her attention. She answered with eyebrow raised she's still doing something and we could just wait. Maybe she's just tired.

It's like an old fashioned steakhouse (including the decor). The food was good and reasonably priced for the quality you get. Had the 6 oz.filet mignon and it was cooked just as I ordered. Had the tomato/bocconcini/onion as a starter - just the way I remembered it.
