The best sourdough. Sliced upon request. Really happy they reopened. Their savoury danishes are best.

Between Gato Bakeshop, Eadha Bread, La Belle Baguette, French Way Cafe, and The Pennyloaf Bakery, we are spoiled for baked goods in Winnipeg. Sleepy Owl Bread also belongs on this list.

Fresh flaky pastries that are just the right amount of sweet/ savory. Admittedly, we have not had a loaf yet, but everything we tried was great. Not pictured is the confit tomato and pickle pretzel croissant, which was the best of them all and did not last the ride home.

The space only accommodates pick-up; however, the staff are knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable for the high quality.

It is worth the drive to try Sleepy Owl Bakery if you do not live in Minto or the West End. Make sure to go early on the weekend as many of the favourites will be sold out by noon. Highly recommend as a Saturday morning treat!

Very friendly staff. I bought a potato and onion loaf, pumpkin pie, cheese twists, and a couple of other loaves. So fresh, it smells amazing.

We had an initial sample under the new management (over two visits). The Miche and French loaves were each a treat. The apple Danish, however, did not live up to expectations. The pastry seemed ordinary. Also, the sweetness of the glaze seemed to be entirely sugar based. Perhaps the effect I'd hoped for involves caramelization of milk solids (from butter) or, perhaps, the richness of egg yolk. Regardless, very different from what I remembered.

Best bakery in the neighborhood. Their raspberry and apple danishes are the best I've ever had and their bread is incredible.

Edit - new owners. I've changed my reciew from 5 stars to 4 stars. While not much has changed on the inside of the place, the quality of their food has changed. The danishes look similar but lack some of the flavor and magic they used to have.

UOF supported and Babka approved memes, best in town! Love me some jalapeno roasted garlic hearb cream cheese!

If you’re comparing it to the first iteration, you may be disappointed. It’s close but different.
However if it had opened up under a different name, previous patrons would probably rate it higher.
To be fair, increase cost of ingredients have rised significantly, and it’s unfair to try and keep things at the same cost. They need to make a profit too. I have to remind myself what I paid and what I got was a previous time and previous people.
But, they’re prices are in similar price point of other bougie bakeries and the finesse wasn’t there.
If you’re new, give it a try. If you were a die hard, keep an open mind.
