SMITH Restaurant

We had a great time at Smith Restaurant this past weekend. The atmosphere was fun, especially with the live band playing, we had such good food (the pounded cheese with the gluten free bread was fabulous!) and the service was great with a super friendly server. The only criticism I would have is that some of the dinner items are a bit pricey. It did impact our menu choices.

We had a babysitter for the evening ($25/hr) and decided to stop at SMITH for a quick drink and appetizer before heading home. We already had some items in mind. We arrived at SMITH and were seated at 9: 25pm to be told they close at 10: 30pm and last call was 10pm. We wait until 9: 45pm and had still not had our order taken, before we decided to get up and leave. I’m uncertain to whether we would’ve even been able to order one drink before last call. I’m not sure why we were let in if we weren’t intended to be served.

We were at a party hosted there. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. The whole meal, every course was delicious. The portions were generous.

The food was fantastic! Tried steak tartare for the first time. Delicious! Our service was top-notch. Very friendly and efficient!

We dined at Smith Restaurant! The restaurant wasn’t noisy which is a huge bones! We ordered the pickerel and buttermilk chicken and truffle fries & mashed potatoes. The buttermilk chicken was amazing very crunchy and tasty! The pickerel was tasty but the two pieces are not enough for a meal and you need to order a side. Britt was our server and very attentive & personable! Overall pleased with food and service! Yes a bit of pricey restaurant. Our meals for 2 came to $180 with tip

Super overpriced. They're clearly pretentious about their product. Dudes. It's a bowl of only ok mashed potatoes.why $15? Were they imported from Tibet or something? I guess I'm not refined enough to understand $80 for a tiny piece of steak with no garnish and having to pay for sides. $105 for teeny steak, mashed tater and some asparagus? Waitress was lovely though.

We had a reservation with friends at SMITH this past Saturday Dec 16/23. Walking there in the winter is a tradition of mine and my partners and it was a perfect night for it! Dinner was fantastic - the mussels were our absolute favourite. Our server was so great - attentive and friendly. At the end of the meal we headed to the front where the coat check is and my coat was missing. As we now know, it was mistakenly picked up by another guest with the same coat. This review is really for Aaron, Chelsey and Emma. They were SO helpful from the get go! I cannot express how grateful I am for their genuine care towards the issue, communication throughout the days that followed and updates. I've now received my coat back and we look forward to re-doing our wintery walk to SMITH for dinner. THANK YOU!

I hosted our Christmas party here and the staff were so helpful and friendly and the food was good

Great location but… we got two of our appetizers before we even got our drink order - not that the kitchen was fast. Our oysters were drenched in water since the ice tray was melted when we received it. We received wrong orders and although some of the food (burger, meatballs, sausage board) were good, I would suggest the kitchen has suffered in recent years. Serving staff was amazing but not backed well by the kitchen for the price of dinner. I think this is also my first time at a restaurant where on closing time the lights were raised to full brightness (like in a movie theatre) - I think nothing says "go now" better than that - a gentle mention from our waitress would have done the trick.

I went with a group of friends and everyone enjoyed their food. I had a feature of blackened chicken and it was great. All the cocktails were very much enjoyed. Also to note the service was top notch.

Good atmosphere, helped by the Inn at the Forks hotel that the restaurant is attached to. Great service. The food is pricey and not worth it. I had the burger ($31) and it was a tad dry. I wouldn’t mind going back if I was in the area, but it wouldn’t be my first pick.

It's in the Inn at the Forks, main floor. Food is pricy but amazing and definitely worth it. Place for a nice meal for a special occasion and yet could be casual enough if you are visiting the Forks. Professional staff are always helpful and welcoming.

Watermelon Fizz was yummy and served in a crystal glass!

Salad and chicken were a reasonable choice for a light meal at the bar.
Bartenders were friendly and mindful.

Our Jazz trio added a nostalgic and soulful vibe to the eclectic/industrial feel of this local venue.

Go every Wednesday for jazz and live music on the weekend.

The prawns appetizer is good. The pickerel main dish is delicious and the brussel sprout side dish is yummy.

Got the fish and chips for lunch - the fish was what I would call burnt. And probably 10% fish, 90% batter. I don’t plan on going back. Hardly anybody there so not sure how the cook could mess that up so badly.

Food was good, but a bit over priced for what they give you, the meal lacked that extra special finish that other restaurants at this price point tend to have.

I would give 0 star if I can, absolutely will not come back for the food taste horrible, doesn’t worth $50 for a NY steak, not even with a side, and not even looks like 10oz. Asked for medium rare, it came out well done, and dry.

I don’t normally write reviews but I feel I should in this case so if anyone else experienced the same, they know they are not alone. Me and my mom stayed in the forks hotel and we wanted to try the restaurant. It was awful. The host was so rude and just unfriendly, she acted as if we had no business being there. As for our waiter, he was nice at first but as soon as he realized we weren’t getting the 60$ special he basically ignored us, he literally had his back to the restaurant talking to his coworkers. Someone else had to help us with our bill. DO NOT RECOMMEND, if you want to enjoy the food which was delicious do take out.

One of the prettiest and most modern restaurants that we have in Winnipeg. A great flavourful menu with a mix of something for just about everyone, dishes are elevated but not intimidating or confusing! A bit more pricy than you may be used to for downtown Winnipeg but worth it. Try this if you’re over the boring chains!

Eating at SMITH is never a mistake. After visiting several times, I can say that the food has always been prepared and served with excellence. Service is friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is lively without being loud. Always a terrific experience.

My family likes that the food on the menu tasted different. It was unique and gave an experience congruent to the vibe The Forks offers. We also likenthe dinner ware. We ordered mushroom toast with beets, lamb, pickerel, meat balls.

We went on a Monday night, party of five. Was seated promptly and our server was average. The atmosphere is fantastic but what gets this review 2 stars is how long our food took. We ordered drinks and one appetizer which came quickly but then waited over an hour and twenty minutes then our server brings out a complimentary cheese board and informs us our food should be out soon. We then wait another twenty minutes for our entrees to arrive which were tasty but nothing amazing.

The server told us they had a 300 person banquet that night they were catering out of the same kitchen and that's why the food took so long. Here's where the problem is, I am a Red Seal chef and know exactly how a commercial kitchen works and you would never be serving a 300 person banquet out of a line kitchen which is what SMITH has. There were 4 line cooks on that night and other tables were arriving and leaving with their meals while we were waiting for ours. Yes the server may have forgotten to put in a pick up check or maybe one of the cooks cut off a finger but please don't lie to the table about a 300 person banquet or if it was true at least inform us that when the restaurant is one third full that the food will take a while when we order because of it.

Normally I am very understanding when food takes a while as I work in the industry but when you are charging these kind of prices its completely unacceptable. Hopefully if you are reading this it was a one off night for the kitchen and your experience will be better.
