Syl's Drive Inn

This place is amazing. You can spend all day there. The scoops of ice cream you get for a little cost is unbelievable. Great atmosphere and you can miniature golf or spend time with the little ones on the play structure.

-easy access off the highway in east side of the town
-modern playstructure for kids
-food, milkshakes, and ice cream were great, decent prices
- modern washrooms were clean and well kept
-covered eating area to protect from bugs and sun
-mini golf was modernized, very clean, well maintained - nicest mini golf course id been to in Manitoba
-gift store is attched to mini golf hut if your looking for a unique gift
-props and environmental gave that traditional drive in feeling
-lots of parking
-can order in advance

CONS:
-heavy wasp population during out visit
-busy and slow moving lines nearing supper time

Recommended Visit.

Extremely slow service! Every single time we have gone.
Waited for over 30 minutes and ended up leaving before being able to order and we only wanted icecream.
There needs to be a separate line for hot foods and cold foods.
Not likely to go back.

Excellent experience as in past years. Excellent food, served fresh and hot. Large portions, cheap prices. Ice cream cones are huge, delicious and inexpensive. A definite stop in Carman.

Wow. Still delicious, especially the ice cream. But what nice additions. Beautiful mini golf course, a gift shop and more. You cannot go through Carmen without stopping here!

Every time we pass through Carmen we make it a point to stop by there for a sweet treat. We love their ice cream flurries and hard ice cream.

It's often busy but Syl's staff is quick and efficient. They will have you on your way before you know it.

Doesn’t matter what day of the week or what time you call they never pick up. I’ve been in line while workers stand around talking ignoring the phone as well.

It was my first time here and decided to try it while passing through. Unfortunately, it was a really disappointing experience. I had the chicken wrap - it was awful and a sloppy mess. (Pictured) The texture of the “chicken” was rubbery and very off-putting, similar to Subway chicken with the fake grill marks. The fries and onion rings were just OK. Honestly, get rid of that “chicken” and use cut up chicken fingers, it would make it 10x better. The two stars are for the friendly service, the immaculately clean bathroom and the mini golf looked like it was very well maintained. I don’t think I’d return.

Mini golf is great, clean and up to date.food was also great.food is priced reasonably while the mini golf is 9$ a person.there’s also a gift shop.certainly worth an afternoon to drive out here.

Visited Carmen, lunch at Syl's. Very good cheeseburger and chocolate shake. Very nice clean surroundings with a large outside screened in area to sit in and enjoy your meal. Mini golf associated with Syl's looks like a great place to have fun. Very modern and very clean washroom area. Syl's is definitely worth the visit.

This place is seriously the coolest ever. The food is super good and their mini golf is probably the best mini golf i’ve done. I will definitely be back here soon.

You can't drive to Carmen with out making a stop.

Staff friendly although it was dine in there no umbrellas to shafe yourself, however there was a enclosed area in back where you can sit, food was good

On our way back to Winnipeg after a family gathering, we just "needed" a little something along the way. Ice cream is always a good idea. The blustery weather didn't stop us from ordering and enjoying ice cream cones. The service was friendly and efficient. There were quite a few customers waiting in line to place their order. The line moved quickly as the completed order number was called out and people picked up their food.
It had been a long time since we had been to Carman. Seeing the addition of the mini golf, washrooms and improved eating shelter was a very pleasant surprise. It's a great place to spend time for recreation and food.

Experience was nice, food was very good and hamburger made to my likings. The parties was a little dry, probably frozen burger taste.fries n shake, can't get any better! Would go again

So good I'd sacrifice a goat or someone else's child, not mine, but a child when I'm out of province for a Buzz Buger w/ o'rings and a choco shake.

We go to Syl’s a little too much! I like the portions and burger sizes, the prices are very reasonable compared to any other restaurant (I’ve never seen lower prices anywhere else). Some reviewers need to know that seasonal staff, and student staff are hard to acquire and retain, leading to high turnover which can impact your dining experience. Also when the parking lot is full (as it was almost constantly last year!) it may take a little longer to get your food, understandably.
Thickest milkshakes around, and the best soft ice cream too!

Great food selection, all at a very affordable price. Great little mini golf course attached as well with a park out back. Great place to eat with friends and family.

Mini golf was so cute! It's $9 per game and if you get a hole in one on the 18th hole (there will be sirens), you get a free game.food was great.ordered the super Syl's burger, the fish dinner with onion rings and a strawberry milkshake.loved the burger, the fish dinner had 2 small pieces of fish, it won't be enough if you're hungry.it tasted pretty good though.i think the highlight were the washrooms - they were very clean, spacious and new

Best ice cream and milkshakes! Syl’s is my summer favourite, it’s probably a good thing it’s so far from Winnipeg or I’d be going there all the time. Maple walnut sundae is unbeatable ️

Though my soft ice cream was good, the range of flavors was limited. The servers talked way to fast I wanted a hard ice cream and they told me only chocolate and vanilla. I would not be returning as it was a one time/dat visit.

This place is an icon in the area! Everyone knows and loves it and it doesn't disappoint, but it doesn't wow either. Some new menu options would be fantastic!

Wraps were large but it wasn't a good experience used to come here a lot now kinda disappointed by it, honestly it was a 30 minute wait for 2 wraps and a milk shake (that was the wrong size) sorry but not worth it, Honestly used to tell people to stop there, probably wont anymore

An exceptionally good place to grab a bite. Food is enjoyable, lots of room to sit down and enjoy your food, there's a play structure for the kids, very clean washrooms and probably the best mini golf course in Manitoba.

I've been coming here since I was a toddler! There are no better, not thicker milkshakes in the province!

Milkshake was really good, but 5 dollars for a medium milkshake seems pricey when it was such a small cup.

Good burgers, and lots of fries for the price! Overall, pretty good value! I likely wouldn't drive out exclusively for the food, but I wasn't disappointed with stopping on my way through.

My wife and I were looking forward to trying Syl's after hearing some good reviews so we went tonight for supper. The food was ok and portions on the small side, unfortunately it wasn't worth the drive for us.

I like the burgers, but 6 onion rings for 65 cents each is a bit to expensive. And they were burnt!

Terrible service McGee is much better service wise menu wise and tastewise, go there, no comparison

Took a longer route on my road trip to hit this place up. I remember it as a kid on road trips. Now I took my kids on a road trip and the food is not good. Portions are small and it's just frozen burgers, chicken strips and fries heated up. Staff was very nice.

Used to be good, but now such a disappointment. Prices have gone up to the point where you pay nearly $15 for a combo meal and its not even filling. Or you can can a hand full of perogies for $8 or a container of 4 onion rings for $6. This is by far the most expensive drive-in I have ever been to, and it has nothing special to offer. Most recently I ordered a burger and the patty was cooked, but soft and wet like it had been boiled. It was about the size of a McDonald's hamburger. Not sure what I was paying for, but this place is sad. With the new mini golf they setup, they've really got the leanings of a tourist trap! The whole thing about a drive-in is that you're supposed to feel like you're getting the food you paid for, but this makes me wonder. The only good thing about Syl's now, is the fact that it has made me seek out every other drive-in in the area that I can rather go to, and every one of them has been what I want a drive-in to be.

A convenient outside eating place, but very mediocre food. My burger was previously frozen and greasy. A touch pricey for below average food.

Great place to stop when you're driving through Carman Manitoba good choice of foods and not only that the treats are endless.

Food portions are very, very small for what you pay for. Quality is sub par as well. It would be nice if they had homemade food and something 'signature' on the menu that is theirs instead of the run-of-the-mill burger and fries that are pre-made and frozen. I (as well as many of my peers) do not feel you get much value for what you spend. A lot of other similar small businesses like this have homemade food and signature items on the menu that sets them apart. I feel that if Syls stepped up their game, more people would want to come back again for the right reasons.

I didn't even have 10 onion rings in my combo! I typically don't eat large portions at a time, but every time I've ordered here in the last few years, I've eaten every bite and still left hungry. At least they are consistent. Disappointing.
I know I can spend the same amount of money on food at their competitors across town and easily have 2 servings of food.

The newly added mini golf course is beautiful and fun to play. It is a shame that my family would rather eat somewhere else across town first, then come here to golf.

The new improvements to the parking lot are nice to see.

Syls has the prime location for business, it sees high number of customers, but its a shame the food leaves a lot of room for improvement.

Staff and atmosphere were good. But burgers and fries were small. You don't get what you pay for.

I have no idea why there are glowing reviews for this spot, regardless how long it's been there. I remember decades ago that it bore the image of Sylvester the cat. I guess they found that to be unwise somewhere along the line. I also remember driving by it numerous times, thinking how we should try it one day.
Well, today was the day. Nice staff, timely service and very clean environs.
The food would get booed at a high school cafeteria, I am pretty sure. Food-service patties of unknown composition. Nasty texture, barely passable taste. Totally forgettable fries, somewhat serviceable onion rings, pretty good milkshake. Low prices, and you are getting what you pay for.

Best drive-in restaurant in Southern Manitoba! Awesome burgers & fries. Ice cream is not too rich and creamy, just perfect. If I'm driving through Carmen during the open season and I'm hungry, I gotta stop in at Syl's!

Tasty well cooked fries, but the burger patties are of the heavily processed variety. Buns were soft and fresh. You can substitute your soda for a slushy in a combo. Staff are friendly enough but shout out order numbers in an annoyed tone.

I hate to say it, but, for the first time ever, I didn't enjoy my ice cream from Syl's. It doesn't taste the same as it used to! What happened?

Was there this afternoon, looked at the menu and prices and thought, wow the price point on the food was great. Well i tryed the double burger for $ 4.30, absolutely the worst burger I've ever had. Their burgers are frozen and out of a box, no wonder they can sell a double patty burger for $ 4.30. Had their so called fresh cut fries, extremely greasy, assuming the cooking oil has not been changed for a few day's. Had a side of gravy, salty salty salty! Had the worst belly ach. Would not recommend this place to anyone

Much better than average small town burger joint. Wide menu of fast food and ice cream, picnic area with tables and shade trees, as well as a shelter for rainy days.

Delicious! Super drive in restaurant! The burgers and wraps are delicious! Tasty onion rings, too! One of the few places in southern MB that you can get s licorice milkshake! Worth the trip!

Good spot for a tasty burger? They are a lil on the small side, but I just order a few of them. Sides are decent as well as the shakes.

Burgers are very small for the price and were not hot, just the stuff they sell for the price is not worth it in general.

It's always been a childhood favorite of mine. I recently visited after a good 10 years and everything is as I remembered it. Great food. Great ice cream. Can't wait to stop there again.

The food is over rated, I had a super Syl's burger it was really small the grease was pouring off of it.
