The Marlborough Hotel

A family member is staying for 10 days visiting Vancouver. There is no ac, pool is broken, light bulbs missing in room lamps, no screen on windows. Too much more to mention. Very disappointing. Horrible! Clearly management doesn’t care about how their hotel looks or is being run.

So first, apparently you can’t book through their own website because the reservation won’t go through. Second the rooms are in terrible disrepair and they look like the cleaning staff has never set foot in the rooms. The bathroom door did not shut in our room, and I had to use a coffee stir stick to shut off the bedside light because the switch was pushed all the way into the fixture. We only booked because of how close it was to the Canada life centre, but just ended up driving home instead as the room was actually a biohazard. Please do yourself a favour and do not stay here!

One of the worst experiences, we were scared for our lives. Everything is broken, and dirty and infested with bugs.

Never had the joyous occasion of staying here for the night. I'm sure if I did I would of brought some cling on traveller's with me when I left. The kind that Harbour and feast in your bed at night.

1/4 lights in our room worked, tiny 24” TV didn’t even work, outlets didn’t work, sticky floor turned my white socks brown, even set at the lowest setting the heater pumped out scalding hot air, both cold and hot taps ran scalding hot water, bugs all over the shower, plumbing sounds like it’s gonna fall apart, constant riff raff outside and in the lobby. It’s cheap but it’s awful. If you can’t afford to come here without staying at The Marlborough, save up until you can.

Rooms are extremely dirty, washrooms is the worst and it’s not only in the room that I was staying but it’s mostly all rooms with signs of bedbugs, unsanitary washrooms, and nasty smells. Please stay somewhere else, anywhere but this place! You do not want to go through what I have and that’s y I checked out after one night stay.

For $78/night. Built in 1914. If your expectations are the Hilton. Your the turnip with high expectations. Hotel staff amazing. Housekeeping friendly. Security at lobby 24/7. In the morning going to breakfast staff saying good morning. Hellos and smiles. Vacuums running and and people actually doing their job. Hotel restaurant quick service. $10 breakfast served in 8 min.

I've read some reviews. Some people that truth best way to describe to stay or not. If your house is filthy and you rate reviews as filthy shame on you. If your house you clean 3/4 times a week maybe best to stay a block away for $229/night at the ALT. Walking distance to Jets games concerts. Downtown entertainment district. For price you live the culture. Yes tub is yellow. Curtains frayed. Carpets stained. But again your not paying Hilton Prices. You have a bed. A door latch and hot water. For no extra charge they have a blow dryer. Can't ask for better at prices in 2022

Elevators stinks from Alcohol, they had a power outage and refused to refund clients and the heating wasn't working in a below zero October night! There are constructions in the street. Old and disgusting.

The floors were sticky, curtains damaged and stained and dirty washroom. Very tiny and literal mess

Dirty garbage under the bed. No hot water. No pillows or blankets for second bed and took them 3&1/2 hours and three calls to the front desk to get us some and when they brought them at midnight they had very bad attitude extremely rude. Service sucks.

Ok if I could give -10 stars I would. Totally false advertisement from when I got here omg I was in shock. Please, don't ever reserve a room here. There's a bunch problems, over 5 security guards at the entrance, and the place smells. Run from this place

If I can give this no stars I would. Let me start by saying just going into the hotel and checking in took ages. The workers couldn’t check us in at first but at the end they gave us a room that had hairs on the pillows and the sheets were dirty parking was so hard because it felt unsafe because there were all sorts of people hanging around the front of the hotel. Super hard to sleep because the hallway door kept opening and closing really loudly and it would disturb us. The pool is just there to pull you in nothing like the pictures the slide doesn’t work the pool is dirty and the hot tub was cold and had stains all over it. If ur looking to waste money book here. Disgusting.

Well it definitely wasn't what we expected. The pictures online must be quite dated, because the rooms were nothing to write home about.rooms were kinda dingy & dark, sheets didn't have a full coat of hair, but there were definitely a few stray ones. Bathtub had a couple extra holes, but the water stayed in most of the time. Bed was actually quite comfy, considering. It felt very eerie in the hotel, almost like as if someone would sneak around a corner and try & mug you. But thankfully Someone else was watching over us the night previously to when we got there, a customer had his vehicle broken into, so that caused some concern, but the security guard was very understanding & kind and said that we could park our vehicle where he could watch it during his work shift, which very was much appreciated. The hotel staff were very accommodating and we had no issues with checking in/ checking out etc. Definitely not a family getaway hotel, but if you get your thrills by living on the edge, then this place would definitely rate right up there

The room was so dirty and smelled very bad, the lobby so dirty and the employees so rude. I don't recommend this hotel

I am ashamed as a canadian that this hotel operates in my country.
The staff were lovely and are doing their best.
I do not mind hotels that are old or run down
But I draw a line at unclean. All the rooms have a humid heavy chlorinated smell and not because of the pool. They use harsh cleaners in an attempt to counter the bad smell of the old stained carpet, humid infrastructure, and unwashed walls of the building.
Apart from being smelly the whole building is shamefully rundown. I would hope that having a hotel license in Canada would require a much higher standard than what this place currently offers.
There are low-income residences in the hotel as well causing further recurring damage and an extra element of needed security throughout the building.
My Gratitude to the staff and security working here on the day-today for their help. And to the cleaning staff doing their best in a rundown hotel that refuses to invest more than some bleach and elbow grease.

Construction out front, no parking, bad part of town, smelly unclean rooms, violent neighbors, should not be licensed.

Let me start my saying that I have travelled to 31 different countries and stayed in countless hotels, motels, hostels, hell, even hammocks! This place was the worst place I have ever seen. When you are booking a room here, you may as well be reserving a $100+ room at the mission! My wife booked a room here for us, our 2 young children (1 and 4) and our dog. The first room we were given was 506, the deadbolt was broken, the AC and TV did not work, there was a cigarette burn on the toilet seat, the tub had no drain, just a hole and the sheets were stained. I went back down and asked for another room with no hassle at all. We were given 505, this was marginally better, however there were carvings on the dresser, yellowing sheets, vomit and blood stains on the bed dress and the bathroom ceiling looked like it was caving in. We decided to check out and asked for a refund. I let the manager know of our experience, he apologized and refunded our room with no hassle. The service here was very good. The front deck man was very friendly and accommodating of our request. I actually feel sorry for the employees who work here, I could just imagine what they have to deal with when less than understanding guests complain. Or even with the vagrants who appear to somehow get rooms here.

NEGATIVES:
All sheets dirty when we checked in. Whole sink moved. Only two outlets, and all used up with coffee maker, ac, and hair dryer. No fridge or microwave available and after I went out and bought my own hot plate, they confiscated it BUT management did find me a microwave after that. But why did two workers then say before that there were none? Deadbolt didn't work and no flip-lock. Bathroom door didn't lock.
GOOD POINTS:
pool, hot tub, and waterslide.
Very quiet rooms, no transfer of noise.
Location is close to so much.
The handsome security guard.

We didn't even stay. We went up to room in lobby was asked for a rigs (drigs) security tackled two drunks. Elevator was sticky and filthy hallway to room was so foul. Next room had hit banging his girlfriend to not sleep with brother. Security was at does but overall filthy and scary and very old and dirty. Nothing like pictured on internet. They wouldn't give refund even though we're in hotel less than 10 minutes. Awful experience. Parking lot across street was so scary, my kid got asked for cigarettes lighter and drugs in the crossing of a street.

Third class hotel I have ever seen. The hotel room looks so dirty. We didn’t even want to sleep here. The washroom drains are not working. Even washroom was so dirty.

Everyone reviewing is such a snowflake. I went there precisely for the thrill! And I was not disappointed.the place looks like its haunted, elevator looks like it might drop you, druggies outside and inside look like they might rob you, girls around look like they will give u STDs just by looking at and the rooms are in deplorable state of repair. HOWEVER the price is literally cheaper than a meal. If it wasn't because of the concern for the safety of my work car, I'd definitely stay there again. I come from 3rd world country and been around the world. This is hands down #1 roughest place in Canada! LOVE IT! BEST CRACK DEN EXPERIENCE!

If I could put 0 stars I would. We drove around the block and that should red flag number 1. There was a village of shanties in the alley behind the building. We walked in and there was extremely questionable people hanging around the lobby outside and inside. Police came in while we were at the front desk and even they looked sketched out to be there. The building is run down and dirty. The elevator had a syringe shoved in the mechanical panel on the wall. Cigarette butts on the floor in the hallway. The room.nothing like the pictures. Incredibly dirty. The curtains had questionable stains all over them that should only be assumed to be bodily fluids. The ceiling and all 3 of the lamps had what looked like blood splatter on them. The towel holder in the bathroom is rusty. There were "other people's body hair" in the tub. I wouldn't doubt if the lights in the room were dim to hide how gross it was. We immediately went to ask for a refund and leave which didn't seem like a surprise to the front desk. As we were standing there, a lady of the night with a black eye was trying to convince a new client to take her upstairs for very reasonable prices. I don't think I've ever ran out of a hotel do fast.

I wish I can give them 0 star. I cancelled my booking and called them 2 times to refund me my money. But still I didnt get my money back. Everytime I call them they just say my manager will give u a call. Bt never got call or anything. Waiting since last 5 days. Very very poor hotel I have ever seen.

Security needs to chill out there not police officers 10% for the security other then that they have 80 % for the smoking rooms a good pub
100% for the pub

First room they had me in the heat didn't work. Second room same problem, had to heat the room with a hair drier. Room phone directory isn't listed, had to figure out how to get ahold of the front desk. Maintenance non existant, hotel can't even provide toothbrushes, don't even sell them. Restaurant was surprisingly tasty

We went to a Jets game, not the first time staying here. But forsure the last time. I had to go to the front desk and complain at 2 am for the yelling and fighting, nothing came of it, worst $139.00 a nite i ever spent, beautiful stone work in this hotel just restaurant in the morning was great service and food was good. Parking cost an extra $13.00 to get out of the parking lot across the street no one answered the phone when i called

Just giving one star for their Breakfast otherwise hotel sucks! Rooms have bad smell carpets are like never cleaned! Our blanket has smoke holes in it! When turned ON water in washroom water was orange color! I don't know how they pass in hotel inspections!

WARNING!
When you play The slots machine there always cash out no higher then $200.
If the amount is higher $500 they give you a check. In my case my cash out was $800 so they told me any thing higher a check has to be written. You can't say NO.
THE HOTEL ALWAYS SHOULD HAVE THE AMOUNT ON SITE FOR HONORING THE CASH OUT.
The evening staff is not to personable it's like they don't want to serve any other female's that's competition for them.
Will not be going back in the evening. Day staff very friendly.

This is a hotel we're staying at even though it is kind of creepy and old it is one of Canada's classic hotels with a great deal of Canadian history.if you're going to stay in Winnipeg take an opportunity to stay here the staff are friendly the prices are reasonable and there's a free breakfast every morning

Such an awful hotel I have ever been too. Their hotel rooms are cheaper because they have no parking available and is paid apart from this I have booked some other room and the guy at the reception told me that I’ve put you in the deluxe room which is in the old building and is so gross as their washroom has no exhaust, sink is over flooded can’t take shower because only hot water coming out after complaining tons times one guy showed up who was unable to fix up the problem and told me he will send someone else to fix this up whole day has passed no one either came to fix this thing nor the housekeeping person to clean the room!

The maids will steal from you. We went out to eat came back and our room had been serviced. Our laptop power cord was gone, my autistic sons tablet was gone and my husband's weekly blister pack of meds also gone. We went to front desks, the told us "you will not accuse our maids of theft & if you continue to do so we will remove from the hotel. We asked to talk to the maid to serviced are room, but no. Pills will be replaced with a police report. Laptop cord can be replaced, that tablet for my autistic son can be but the things he created on it, his "movies" he likes to make with his stuff FNAF toys. All of it gone and they think they can just brush this mama bear off.

I had a blast the day shift staff is a joke I rented a theme room and the tub leaked plus the remote for the TV didn't work and the bathroom lights. Not even a discount

Please do NOT eat here. Myself and another dined in to eat, we sat beside the front desk and saw something on the wall. It was a cockroach.we told the lady in the front of house and she said exclaimed "What do I do? " And then took a menu and smashed it against the wall killing it. If there are cockroachs in the dining hall, imagine how many are in the back. The service and staff however were pleasant. As for staying here, we wouldn't be willing to try as there are lots of rowdy drunks, my friend broke her ankle on the road because of a drunken man grabbing at her on our way to the car.

I wouldn't recommend this non-existent hotel who's staff is entirely bad & being rude to ppl. This stinking hotel should've been demolished instead of St. Regis Hotel.

This is the worst hotel in Winnipeg when I came from walking somebody poured a liquid in my shower and I was all coloured in red and instead of water they gave me vodka listen to these reviews and don’t visit it again

Do not stay here! Big homeless issue out front, very dangerous and aggressive people. The parking is not secure at all, our water was brown and we had no cold water just hot. The reception staff was very slow and extremely incompetent. The only reason we stayed was for the interesting architecture and history of the building which the staff knew absolutely nothing about

Absolutely disgusting 0/10will never go back 2 different rooms i was put in had cockroaches first 2 mins i was there was asked if I wanted to buy pills outside the front doors worst hotel I have ever stayed at on the plus side the front desk agents were very friendly and I do give it does have nice architecture and history to it but come on thats not the point.

If I can rate lower than 1 start I would love to do it. There was no parking, so I have to park across for $30, the parking lot was very unsafe. The elevator was like a roller coaster, for some reason it always stop at level 4, which made my trip up and down from level 5 twice the fun. Greeting us are 3 roaches, one more hiding inside the coffee maker. The shower was boiling hot, couldn’t take the shower, at this time I decided to cancel the room within 2 hours but they charged me for a full night. Will come back and update the free breakfast.

Not only are the rooms dirty and hallways loud there is no parking. I had my damage deposit double charged and not refunded. A huge headache for me to get it resolved. I should have looked at reviews. This place is terrible.

I felt very unsafe and on edge staying here. There were intoxicated homeless people everywhere. They have no parking, so you have to park on the street, I thought my car was going to get broken into at night. If I could give this hotel a 0/5 I would. They charged my credit 5 different times, overcharging me $400, money of which I have still not received let alone even receive a callback from the manager. The bathroom was dirty, and the door to my floor, which was supposed to be secure was broken. Most of the time, the elevator takes you too a random floor, other than the button you press. I do not recommended staying at this “hotel”.

Horrible hotel if you're visiting for some night in Winnipeg. Hotel is located in the middle of downtown but is full of druggies. There was a lot of noise and bad smell right from the gate. Even in our room, we could hear so much noise. Beds weren't comfortable and washrooms are really dirty. Also, there is no parking in the hotel. You've to find a paid public parking nearby. Horrible place, worst experience in a hotel ever!

I feel this is a fairly liberal 3 stars I'm giving. The hotel itself is right in the downtown core and is historic and beautiful and the staff was very friendly. Also included with the room everyday is a complimentary breakfast from the hotels restaurant which is nice. Our room was dated and needs some renovations. There is homeless always loitering at the door but never bothered us. Parking nearby is $33 CAD a day. Pool was closed due to covid but should be opening July 3rd I believe. I'm guessing with the cerb more homeless were getting rooms there than normal so there were loud neighbour's both nights that the security guard had to come deal. I'd say we enjoyed our stay but we are fairly easy going. Definitely not an experience for everyone: p

Everything smelled of cigars and cannabis. They took a 100$ deposit from me that was said to be returned within a few business days. It’s been over a month and they are refusing to return my money:/ I heard from other ppl that they had similar problems. Very frustrating: (

Please do not go to this hotel, it was the worst hotel I’ve ever been in my life. There were homeless people hanging around, they were people coming in and out, people telling us they just got out of jail, it was super scary and super sketchy. The rooms were so old and dirty. I felt so scared and unsafe at this hotel me and my boyfriend felt like we were going to get robbed or beat up. Please do not come here and waste your hard money what a sketchpad go to negative 10000 starSWe stayed there for one hour and left what a waste of money but I can grab the money to lose my life LOL

If there was a -5 that would be my rating! Mold all over in bathroom and shower hair on the bed homeless people everywhere very gross place. Not somewhere you want to spend your hard earned money. Take my advice don’t come here!

Horrifyingly disgusting. Black hair on all the towels, in the sheets, and stuck to the shower walls. Acne blood stains on pillow cases. Incomplete shower set and no hot water even after running for 15 minutes. Bubbling paint and cracks in the walls. Bathroom door did not close properly. Stubbed toe on the wall and the carpet fell away. Dark, damp feeling, and poorly maintained. It is a beautiful historical building on the outside and in the lobby, but the poorly maintained living areas are almost scary. The elevator is way too aggressive, and the doors struggle to open and close. Key card struggles to open the hallways doors. Staff is friendly and welcoming, but offer no solutions as to the room cleanliness. Poorly located, due to a surplus of sketchy characters that hang around the front door. For $95.00 CAD, I would rather sleep in my truck.

Well the location is great, the rooms are old and the people hanging out are often try to sell you "stuff". The staff are really nice

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in, I cant explain how many things were bad, I only stayed here because it's in downtown and close to convention center and rest of the hotel around were booked, never ever stay in this hotel never you'll regret it the second you step into the hotel.

Worst place to stay appearance sufficient, pool was freezing no water in hot tub advertised hot tube.then had a 7 story window hit the ground about 5 feet in front of me.shower was garbage no pressure and your choice of freezing or scolding hot

Lady at the front desk was very rude and clearly has no idea what good customer service is, talks down to people who are younger than her, acts entitled and threatens people that she'll send security up to your room for no reason at all! Very useless employee and should not be working in customer service if she cant handle the pressure. She worked Nov 31,2018 around 10pm (hopefully someone talks to that disgusting and delusional lady) Over all horrible experience because of her, would rather die than ever stay there again.

Nice karaoke joint. Good prices on food. Why would the waitress not sell us drinks though? She made us order at the bar, yet she cleared our tables.random

Absolutely disgusting room. I walked in and called the holiday inn and left within 5 minutes. There was no where in the room - bed or chair that I would sit on and certainly couldn't have slept there. Why the travel sites have this hotel on them is astonishing. No rating! Have to press 1 but that is too much.

We were renting a hot tub room for our anniversary, when we got there, we were told the room we wanted was out of order due to plumbing issues that occurred 3 days prior. No one had called us to let is know (they said they didn't have a phone number) but had called that morning to make special arrangements for the night and weren't informed then. The manager on duty was very apologetic and helpful. He made some accommodations for us, for the requested we had. Was I happy we didn't get what we wanted or informed prior to arrival, for sure. Was I happy the way management handled it? Yes

Total disaster! Booked a room yesterday for 2 night when checking in! I see the atmosphere around the hotel I asked the desk lady I’m only staying a night! When checked in for 5 hrs I’ve been complaining their heat in a room isn’t working! The first told me the boiler don’t turn on till 9 so waited and fall asleep! Up to just before midnight i woke up really cold! Called the desk and the night manager came in tried the heat and not working and I asked my money back he was so rude I called the police and they advised me to wait and talk to the day manager! I’m here now at a desk learning they billed me 2 nights on my credit card and the daytime manager didn’t even show! This is the hotel they listing 100$ a night

It's an older hotel, and it definitely needs maintenance and TLC. But the location is great for Winnipeg. The staff is very attentive. I reported maintenance issues at 5 P. M.and they had a maintenance man up within two hours. It's a hotel worth a chance.

Don't know if I'd ever stay there overnight, but we use their conference rooms all the time and they treat us really well!

We had our union party at the Marlborough. Good food and really great service. Grace helped us plan the event and she not only made it easy and enjoyable she is very quick to respond to email which made everything run that much smoother in the planning up to the event. When the event was going on she was there making sure we were happy and things were done on time. I would most definitely book an event again with Grace and the hotel based on our experience. Thanks so much and it was a beautiful room we were in (Marlborough hall 8th floor)

We were in town for the Metallica concert, so this was the only option close to the show. The food is delicious, and friendly staff. But our room was pretty dirty, we waited 2 hours just to check into it as they said it was being cleaned. All our towels were completely stained, not a single one was clean. The bathtub/shower looked and felt like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Our toilet seat was filthy, with old stains on it from previous guests; so I had to clean it and sanitize it. Our sheets were all stained, so was our blanket. The only thing that was actually clean in our room was our own possessions. It's convenient if you want to explore the area before dark, we watched many arrests and were harrassed outside by many people, I couldn't even walk outside by myself without being grabbed or harrassed. It was omly okay for our vacation since we were hardly ever there, but we definitely will not be returning.

Sketchy people in front and inside the building, room walls were dirty, bed sheets were dirty and looked like they weren't changed slept on top of the blanket. Bathroom smelled like diarrhea, and the water was brown coming outta the sink tap. People in the halls all night long in and out of rooms waking you up. Paid $22 for parking I wasn't there 24 hours which isn't associated with the hotel. Glad the room didn't have bed bugs or scabies. Front desk staff was nice and lobby looked decent but you couldn't pay me to stay here ever again. Definitely was not worth the $100 a night, skipped the free breakfast to get outta there!

EDIT: We got scabies from this hotel. Originally thought it was bed bugs. Disgusting hotel. Do yourself a favour and do not stay here. There was hair in the sheets, and our room didn’t have power! We were disgusted. Only reason we stayed there was because everything in the city was sold out. There is a reason why they had rooms available.

The location is scary. We arrived at 12 in the morning, had to park across the street and pay $16 (on top of $150 dollar room) I’m surprised we weren’t mugged walking across the street. No wifi included which is also ridiculous. Should be condemned!

Customer service was poor. Claimed they "lost the reservation" we made a week before checking in. Our bedding on both beds were dirty, we went out at 7pm and left a thing on the door for the room to be cleaned again and came back at 2am to find it the same. We called the front desk and were told that there was nothing they could do about it other than give us towels. TO SLEEP ON. The room smelled as did the beds and pillows. Would not recommend this hotel to even someone i hate.
