Wayback Burgers

After having detailed my initial chance encounter with Wayback Burgers on the Kirkbridge location, I'm happy to report that they have heeded the advice I left in my review of it and opened this one (and have since gotten a Portage location opened up too). Now you can save yourself the BLUE transfers. It's clear that there was a bit of pent-up demand in the general area as there was a strong crowd of both diners as well as others waiting to head out the door. In the opening days it definitely appeared that there were some growing pains as it's obvious judging from some of the other reviews shortly after it opened that not every experience was going as well as it could have been. But hey, that's part of the point of a reviews section like this one, and it seems a year on that those pains have been ironed out.

Just like with the Kirkbridge location, be prepared to wait - that is one of the house rules after all. But if you're on a tight schedule, they do have online and over-the-phone ordering, plus they also support pickups through SkipTheDishes, Uber Eats, and DoorDash. They definitely have no trouble having orders ready at or even a short bit before a scheduled time. Speaking of those three sites, while yes there is a markup on items going through them, it's actually very modest to the point that it may end up being only a buck or two extra in total even if you get a few things, which is very respectable given other chains' eagerness to hike pricing and implement bloated delivery markups. By comparison, in the time that I've been eating from Wayback, they've only bumped pricing exactly once.

One observation I will make about the fries, they seem to be pretty light on salting them here. They're fine as it is, but you may want to consider grabbing a salt packet or two as I find it helps make them taste a bit better still.

Mixed feelings about the place, I got overcharged probably a mistake, food is ok can quickly add up for the experience and be on the price side.

Tried the Double Bacon Burger, I enjoyed it so much, every bite was full of flavor, the quality of the beef was juicy. Very Friendly Staff.

I had a fish burger and tater tots this visit and everything was delicious. The employees were friendly and helpful. We also got free macaroni bites because there was a promo going on.
The only complaint I have from other Take out orders is that they put way too much condiments on my burgers.

Loved the food and service. Love the fact that you can watch them cook through the glass shield. No hidden secrets when it's a clean kitchen. Recommended for great burgers and milk shakes!

Customer service was great! Walking in I was greeted immediately and was catered to. The food I pretty good; it's your standard burger fare. The vibe and atmosphere was excellent and it was exceptionally clean. Highly recommended!

My wife and I went there to waste an hour between our son's basketball game nearby. The reviews we heard weren't favorable but it was close so we decided why not? Good decision! We both had the classic cheeseburger with onion rings and were very impressed with it!
We liked the cleanliness of the place, the friendliness of the staff and the all-around ambiance. Will definitely return!

Had dinner here on a Friday and there was a long line which was a sign that the food here is good right? Surely all these people wont que in line for 30 mins or more for an average burger…. Surely not…. But unfortunately the long que and wait is not worth it.

The burger is ok, it was not bad but not good as well, it was kinda bland, unseasoned.the cheesesteak had so little beef on it and the cheese was not even melted, the worst thing is the fries that came with my classic combo were soggy!
I think only the onion rings were good but the serving size was too small. Also tried the Oreo Mud Pie milkshake and it was good but too expensive for what you get.

For my money I would rather spend it at Five guys, Nuburger or Whitestar.

Edit: Aug 5,2022 - Had lunch here with a group, 8 of us in total. Wanted to check out if things have improved now that they had time to settle in and Wayback Burgers Regent did not disappoint, we all had double bacon cheeseburger with fries and drinks and not only was the meal superb it was also served super fast for such a big order. Definitely a huge improvement and if they can consistently provide this quality of food and superb service I will now recommend this joint as a must try in the area.

Ordered dinner for the family. Hit and miss. Beef burgers were good, not the best we’ve ever had but they were good. Chicken burger was tasty, no questionable pieces in the meat, and the toppings were fresh. “The works” hot dog was a miss, weird definition of “the works” but it was as described on their menu, just not enjoyed. We ordered takeout so the fries were expectedly not hot and crispy once home. The chips were good, I would recommend chips over fries if doing takeout. Will try again in future with some different menu choices.

Burgers made to order, so it's going to be more expensive than mcdonald's. Keep that in mind when you look at the menu. Great tasting burgers and this location had great staff! Very friendly and accommodating. Cudos!

Had the classic burger their way with rings and drink. My son had the cheesy burger which he said was great.
Burger was tasty, however the onion rings were nothing special. Wouldn't order the regular rings again.
The staff brought me a sample of their panko onion rings as a taster, which were by far better than the house rings.

The burger isn't as big as it looks in the picture. It's moderately tasty but I wouldn't cross the road for it. Definitely over priced.

Super great experience here! The atmosphere is nice and the store was spotless.the staff were super nice and the food was very good!

Food was alright. Waited 30 mins for my burger and fries.

Biggest complaint is the wait. Other locations aren't nearly this bad.

Also my other complaint is the lack of toppings for the bacon cheese fries. I don't know why this specific location skimps so bad compared to the other 2 locations.

Wanted to support local business as much a possible. This was a disappointment.
We got our milkshake right away, which was great for our wait! However, it lacked flavour. Then we saw different employees making their own shakes with much more flavour (some staff were on breaks and some were having day off, ie we watched them walk in and around the counter). Their shakes had stripes of flavouring down the sides of the glass.
Burger was bland could use salt.
Sad experience.

I personally wasn't a fan everyone was still hungry after. The burger to bun ratio for 1 patty isn't good.

Had the 9 (or 8) patty burger and was surprised how fast they were able to make it, very friendly staff and good tasting food

Delicious, i ordered Double Bacon and Bacon Cheese Fries. By the way, its so delicious thay I don't have any leftovers

I ordered off of skip a double and was givin a single extremely disappointed as the burger was the size you'd get from mcdonalds

All the food was delicious. Fries are amazing, nice and crispy. Chicken burger was really good. Nice big breaded chicken breast filet. Mushrooms are canned & grilled (in case anyone else like me has to avoid canned). The rest of the toppings are fresh. My family of 4 enjoyed our whole meal.

The food is absolutely amazing! The buns are like they were freshly out of the oven! So friendly and clean!

Nice to see Wayback Burgers has come to Transcona.
I came across this new location while cycling around and decided to try them out, the Chili Cheese Fries were very good. Also noticed they had some beer taps installed, but they weren't selling beer yet. Very friendly service and very nice clean restaurant.

Wayback Burgers is a new-to-Transcona chain restaurant with a clean atmosphere, friendly staff, and a small, curated selection of menu items, focused on (you guessed it) burgers. Staff greet you at the door with a shout from behind the counter, which must have been inspired by some sort of study because that particular greeting at the door has been on the rise for a couple years now. It's not a good vibe and I wish it would stop.

The burgers themselves are.okay. The small differences between Wayback's four heavy-hitters aren't particularly noticeable, and while filling, lack a depth of flavour you might hope for from beef and bacon. The sides are reasonably portioned and the milkshakes, which are served by the pint, might be the only real reason to order from here given the multitude of burger joints in the area.

The takeaway: I won't be feeling nostalgic for Wayback's burgers, but might stop in if I get a craving for some of their chips or a milkshake.

Had the cheesesteak, tons of gristle in the meat which got frustrating to the point I just didn't finish the sandwich. Tater tots were very crispy which is why I'm giving three stars.

New burger place in Transcona with great prices and friendly staff. Amazing milkshakes too!

I haven't tried the burgers. We only went to for a takeout vanilla milkshake. My spouse said it was delicious. Will definitely have to go back to try out more of their menu. The retro restaurant looked very clean. The kitchen is enclosed in glass so you can watch the cooks preparing your order. Don't tap on the glass, it could make them nervous!

Burgers are decent, Chili cheese fries and bacon cheese fries are actually a joke. I would strongly suggest to sticking to the burgers if you are going here.

I have been waiting months for this place to open and had some reservations as I had talked to a few friends and their opinions were that it wasn't that great.

Had my my first time there yesterday and got their version of a classic burger loaded with absolutely everything including jalapenos and mushrooms.

I have to say, it was layered perfectly, meat was well cooked. The flavours were on point and the burger stayed together incredibly well considering the size and number of ingredients it contained. I was very impressed with the buns they use and burger was wrapped up nicely and intact when I pulled it out of the bag upon returning home.

I also got the loaded bacon fries and loved the amount of toppings included.

The burger was so good, I literally forgot to take a picture of it for this review.
I now believe I am addicted and will be returning again today to explore other options on their menu.
I love the fact it's so close to where I live.

In conclusion if you haven't treated yourself to this place yet, I recommend you check it out!
