Middle Island Irish Historical Park

Beautiful but heartbreaking park. Was a quarantine for Irish immigrants during the potato famine and many died and were buried on the island in unmarked graves. The hiking trails are well kept and traverse along the shore edge. A few small beaches. There's a lot of informational signs telling the historical past of the island.

A nice visit to a little island with bad past. Just a short drive from the main town area in Miramichi, there was a lot more to see and learn than I had expected from this small area.

The island tells the history of one of the main ships carrying Irish immigrants back in the 19th century. This ship unfortunately ran into many problems resulting, as often was on these journeys, in calamity and death, but ultimately to the growth of the town's that welcomed (sometimes) the survivors.

There's a nice little loop walk that also showcases a children's story in sections throughout. There are also dozens of benches along the way in memoriam to many people over the years.

The small museum and visitor's centre is free and very informative and there's also a restaurant which is nice if you planned on having a BBQ at their picnic tables as there aren't any allowed on the island. Even as the rain became louder, it almost added to the experience of such a walk.

Beautiful small park in an island. Nice place to just chill and enjoy a morning or afternoon with your family.

Loved it here the history although sad was so interesting, beautiful place to explore with the kids.

What a great place to stop and relax. Perfect for a picnic, a small stroll on the beach or even just to walk around the island. The views of the Miramichi River are amazing and the history of the island is truly mesmerizing as well!

Great place to walk especially with a 2 year old. Picnic tables are available if you bring something to eat as the restaurant on site is not open (covid).

Very clean, nicely mowed & tidy park to enjoy a walk, swim, read or picnic! Brought friends from away. Always enjoy time spent here!

Stopped in for a visit to have lunch n enjoy the view of the mighty Miramichi River n surroundings, awesome place for a walk, postings, fishing, etc viewing nature in person

Nice place for a picnic and stroll. There's even some swimming. Dog friendly. Adequate picnic tables.

Wonderful place to go walking and exploring that is right in the middle the famous miramichi river. I highly recommend this place.

This small island should be on the must-visit list for anyone with an interest in Canadian history.

Definitely an eye opening visit. We can learn so much from history. Gives me more respect for the Irish immigrants who came during that difficult time.

Pretty little Gem in Miramichi. Nice little 1km loop around island. Lots of benches, and picnic spots. Great tribute to Canada's Irish roots.

It's pretty small. It has a restaurant (which I didn't visit). The small Beach is a nice reprieve from the busy beaches. The dogs loved it! Just don't plan a day here.

Beautiful site full of history. Stumbled upon the site while driving back to our cottage. Learned alot about the Irish immigrants during the famine in Ireland. Lots of information. A must see if you are in the Miramichi area.

Great place to relax and enjoy nature. Enjoy a relaxing walk along the river. Mediate on the bsandy beach. Or enjoy the fantastic Sunday brunch. Middle Island is a great place to relax with family and friends.

Beautiful shoreline, clean walking trails, food, indoor toilets, lots of parking and friendly staff. I always enjoy my visits to this park.

Lovely place for an evening walk They have docks, a light house and picnic tables. We output kayaks in the water there

It is small but well taken care of.lots of picnic areas, trees for shade. Good walking areas and of course the mighty Miramichi river.

It's a beautiful place for walking or just sitting by the water. You can get a good, reasonably priced breakfast at the restaurant.
